iPods won't crash your pacemaker says the FDA
It turns out that 17-year-olds probably aren't that good at studying electrical interference -- and its effect on pacemakers -- created by iPods. New PS3 SKU practically confirmed by GameStop
Filed under: GamingAccording to a report, the next iteration of PS3 packages has been all but confirmed during a GameStop conference call recently. Apparently, the 80GB version of the console is dead, and is due to be replaced by a 120GB model bundled with the Dual Shock 3 controller -- just like we mentioned a few days go. Microsoft Aiming to Acquire Yahoo

Yahoo board acknowledges to have received the proposal and announces to be careful reviewing it. Microsoft would pay 31 USD per Yahoo share, a 62% premium over the closing price from Thursday at 19.18 USD.
It clearly indicates that previous Microsoft strategy to counter attack Google failed, and that Redmond's giant decided to acquire Yahoo to use it as the basis in its fight against Google.

But Sigma's put the same 14.1-megapixel APS-C sized Foveon CMOS sensor used in its SD14 DSLR into this tiny package. The main developments of the tool over previous versions are really cool:

Intel hat anlässlich der Konferenz Linux.conf.au die Dokumentation einiger Grafikchips freigegeben, die alle Informationen enthalten sollten, um freie Treiber zu schreiben. Google meldet 17 Prozent Gewinnsteigerung
Google hat im vierten Quartal 2007 (bis 31. Dezember) einen GAAP-Nettogewinn von 1,21 Milliarden Dollar oder 3,79 Dollar pro Aktie erzielt, was einem Zuwachs von 17 Prozent gegenüber dem Vergleichszeitraum des Vorjahres entspricht. Im Dezember noch wurde die Mac-Software von TomTom Home auf Version 1.6 aktualisiert - und konnte doch noch immer keine Karten vom Mac auf das mobile Navigationsgerät installieren. Glubble - Kinderschutz für Firefox
Mit der Firefox-Erweiterung "Glubble Family Edition" erhält der Open-Source-Browser einen Kinderschutz. Broadband ADSL to Reach 40 Mbits/s!?
Source : Ars technicaIf broadband ADSL is becoming the default type of connection for getting access to internet, optical fiber is becoming a serious competitor as it allows higher transfer speed as well as longer effective range from the central server.
However, a new technology for broadband ADSL might allow ISPs to further boost their ADSL offer and performance, while giving them more time to develop their expensive optical fiber infrastructures. The company Rim Semiconductor claims to have designed new chips able to reach 40 Mbits/s, and even more impressive such transfer speed could be maintained till 1.7km from the central server. First trials have been launched in Oregon, USA.
This technology might be the way to bring broadband internet to all citizen, even those located far away from the central server.

New MacBook Pro on February 12th?
In January, Apple was quite busy with a lot of product announcements: Mac Pro, MacBook Air, Time Capsule, video rental offer on iTunes
To maintain the buzz related to Apple-branded products, and keep news networks speaking about them, Apple might have delayed the release of the Penryn transition for some of its hardware models.
One of our sources reports that new products will most likely be launch on February 12th, and it should be the new MacBook Pro.

Sony's booth has to be pretty big to hold all the imaging goodies, so here's a whirlwind tour of it. You know Sony's making a play for the big boys in the DSLR arena, so the alpha-series had a good amount of serious-looking real estate. The fleet of Sony point-and-shoots were also on display; with all the colors, shapes and sizes the display looked like a candy counter. That's the upper spec for Micron's new highspeed 8Gb (Gigabit not Gigabyte, kids) SLC NAND co-developed with Intel on a 50-nm processes node. If you wondered how Apple managed to make the MacBook Air so thin, here are two photos:
The first is of the 1.8" hard disk with its ZIF connector. It is placed in a frame with tthe motherboard fitted in the notch that one can see on the left.
The second more interesting photo is of the mother board. The smallest chip on the upper left is the processor, while the larger one next to it is the chipset that contains the integrated video. One can see in the lower middle the chips of non-removable RAM.
The integration is incredibly compressed, and this mother board must contain many layers of circuits which must push the price upwards.

Like all who have ordered this type of machine, he bought the memory elsewhere and also two additional Seagate 500 Gb hard disks. Like many of those receiving this kind of machine, his first game was to launch benchmark software to give one the pleasure in power of the machine. He was surprised to find that the original hard disk fitted by Apple- the 320 Gb from Seagate - was 30% slower! The benchmark score with the 320 Gb disks was even slower than a previous generation Mac Pro also fitted with 320 Gb disks.

Hands-on with Samsung's GX-20 DSLR

Here's twin brother to Pentax's K20D DSLR, the Samsung GX-20. It looks like a nice bit of kit, and we're really curious to see if any differences between the two as a result of Samsung doing its own thing with the JPEG processing. If you've been watching either this model or the K20D, you know the specs: 14.6-megapixel CMOS, live view LCD and ISO that you can crank up to 3200. Nikon's PMA 2008 booth tour

Step on down into Nikon's booth with us. Lots of goodies on display here, but what really struck us was how much the central section of the booth was taken up by (gasp!) photos. Seriously, it had a bit of a gallery feel, except with way more people. But we're here to get our geek on, so it's over to the gear counters we go! Geotate wants to geotag the world

The highlight of an otherwise lackluster PMA 2008 came not from Nikon, Canon, or any of the other big name companies, but rather General Imaging: GE's new camera division announced that it will release one of the world's first point-and-shoots with embedded GPS. Well, to say that the E1050 has true GPS would not be totally accurate -- but the very features it lacks are what make it possible to incorporate geotagging capabilities in the first place. Motorola officially considering dropping its phone unit

GE unveils the geotagging 10 megapixel E1050, eight other new cams

We've harshed on GE's cameras before, but the company showed up at PMA with a new model called the E1050 (pictured) that's actually pretty slick. The 10 megapixel shooter features a 5x optical zoom, HD-res video mode, HDMI out, a 3-inch touchscreen, and an integrated GPS radio that syncs up with your computer to automatically geotag your shots. Dell unsurprisingly denies rumors of Google phone

Rumors of a "Gphone" were probably greatly exaggerated to begin with, and now at least the venue has been firmly shot down.
