Microsoft eyes new category for Windows Embedded, envisions intelligent solutions for everyday objects
Microsoft's fixin' to get its Windows platform inside, well, everything. That's according to GM of Windows Embedded, Kevin Dallas, who says the tech giant is on track to create a new category for the division that centers around "intelligent solutions." It appears the time is ripe for "low-cost high-powered microchips" to take advantage of MS' emerging cloud services and integrate means of delivering data and immersive experiences to both enterprise and commercial end users, like in-car systems or point of sale terminals. Samsung won't block iPhone 4S sales in South Korea
Samsung will not reportedly block the iPhone 4S from a release in South Korea, according to a local paper there. The company has tried to block the release of the iPhone 4S elsewhere (without much success so far), but the 4S finally went on sale last Friday in South Korea, and Samsung opted not to move against it.

Developers claim crack for Siri security
Developers at Applidium say they have cracked the security scheme behind Apple's Siri voice command system. Siri use is normally restricted to the iPhone 4S, although limited success has been had in bringing it to earlier iOS devices. Applidium, however, says it has managed to crack Siri in a way that could allow it to be inserted into apps on many different platforms, even Android.

Core Security Technologies identifies Mac OS X sandbox hole
Although Apple plans to require sandboxing in all third-party Mac App Store apps as of March 2012, it sounds as though Apple needs to get its own sandbox in order first. Researchers at Core Security Technologies have found a way to circumvent the sandboxing restrictions built into Mac OS X.

WiFi-only Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 gets Android 3.2 update, loses WiFi connectivity
Anxious to get that Galaxy Tab 10.1 WiFi model updated with a fresh dose Android 3.2? You might want to hold your horses. iPhone 4S to launch in India on November 25
Airtel and Aircel, two rival wireless carriers in India, are poised to launch the iPhone 4S later this month. According to The Times of India report, Airtel has confirmed it will begin to sell the iPhone 4S starting on November 25 at midnight. Pre-orders will begin on the carrier's website starting November 18.
Aircel has not provided a launch date, but the carrier announced on Facebook last week that it will begin selling the iPhone 4S soon. Since neither carrier has an exclusive agreement with Apple, it's expected that Aircel will launch on November 25, just like its competitor Airtel. BlackBerry London 'superphone' may get Porsche Design cues

Newest German Apple Store to open Thursday
On Thursday, November 17, Apple will open its eighth retail store in Germany. According to German website, ifun.de, the retail store will be located in the town of Sulzbach. The store's listing has been added to Apple's German website and the error in the graphic that announced the opening date as September 17 instead of November 17 has been corrected.

Google Maps Android app update gentrifies Places, Live Events forces Twitter out
Android's Google Maps has been given an extra nudge, reaching the dizzying heights of five-point-twelve-point-oh. So what's changed? Well, for starters, the ability to post to Twitter has been nixed from the Places pages, replaced by the natty ability to see what's going on in places nearby. Giving it a try in London, it's got a pretty broad remit, and covers live music, plays and even museum exhibitions. NPD data may point to 5.3 million Macs by end of quarter
Apple is on track to sell between 5.1 and 5.3 million Macs by the end of the holiday quarter, says Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster. The estimate is based on new data from the NPD Group, indicating that US Mac sales were up 19 percent year-over-year in October. Samsung drops plan to file Apple suit in Korea, will battle in 'the global market' instead

AT&T expanding LTE to 15 markets on November 20th

AMD kündigt stromsparende 1-Sockel-Server-CPUs an

Google Music store shots leak, show free song a day
Google's plans to launch its music store at its November 16 event were solidified after a discovery of the storefront itself. Apple sales up in Europe, despite overall PC slide
PC sales in Europe are dismal, according to a Gartner report that was highlighted in an early morning post on Gigaom. In fact, PC sales in the Western Europe market dropped 11.4 percent year-to-year to only 14.8 million units. That sounds like a cause for despair if you're a PC maker, but not if you're Apple.

Barnes & Noble: Microsoft wants right to veto Nook features
Barnes & Noble's complaints about Microsoft have accused the Windows developer of not just trying to be anti-competitive by discouraging Android but also trying to dictate what features Nook devices could use. Microsoft allegedly had "veto power" through prices as well as the terms of the license. It wanted control over what hardware and software features features the Nook was allowed to use, Barnes & Noble said, giving it a way to neuter a competitor by denying it any advantages.

Apple shuts down iPod-themed baby clothes shop
Apple has sent a shut down notice to an online retailer that sold iPod-themed baby clothes. Website ipopmybaby has been selling onesies and other baby clothes adorned with Apple's signature iPod click wheel or the iPhone home screen for the past several years. The clothes are adorable and reasonably priced which has made them a hit for parents of future fanboys (and girls).
According to a notice on ipopmybaby's website, Apple has asked them to stop selling the clothes. The website will shut down on December 11 and is selling its remaining inventory at a discounted price. Everything is available on a first come, first serve basis for US$12.

Sprint outs new data plans, Express hotspot
Sprint on Monday brought out newly revised data plans that claim to undercut those from the competition. They are combined 3G/4G data plans and include a 6GB, $50 per month plan or a 12GB, $80 per month option. Apple has officially released iTunes 10.5.1, an upgrade of the company's jukebox software. The update's only stated purpose is support for iTunes Match, a $25 annual subscription service which lets users keep an iTunes music library mirrored on Apple servers. Apple has released iTunes 10.5.1 for immediate download through Apple's site with iTunes Match available. It's not available via Software Update yet, and we will have the full changelog up shortly.
iTunes Match is now available as a feature in iTunes and users can subscribe for US$24.99. It's listed as a beta feature, and beta subscribers are warned that their iCloud libraries will be deleted at the end of the beta. To thank beta testers for their participation, Apple is offering them an additional three months on their subscription.

Gartner: Apple PC share jumps 20% in Europe as Acer plunges
Apple and ASUS are cutting deeply into the European computer market, Gartner found on Monday. Apple was now in the top five in Western Europe, having seen its shipments this past summer jump 19.6 percent over the past year to get it 7.6 percent. ASUS was the only other company in the top five to gain share and grew roughly as quickly, with a 20.3 percent jump putting it above Dell at 10.6 percent of the computer space.

iPhone 4, 3GS led US smartphone sales in Q3
The iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS held on as the US' bestselling smartphones during the third quarter of 2011, according to new NPD Group data. Following behind in the top five were two Android-based phones -- the HTC EVO 4G and the Motorola Droid 3 -- as well as the Samsung Intensity II, which NPD classifies as a smartphone even though the device is more basic than most. The updated top phone list is almost identical to one for Q2, the only difference being the Droid 3 replacing the HTC Inspire 4G.

Steve Jobs: The Lost Interview is a TV interview turned feature film that will be shown this week in Landmark Theatres across the US. The interview was originally recorded in 1995 when Jobs had left Apple and contains a lively conversation between Robert Cringely and Jobs. Ten minutes of the interview were shown in "Triumph of the Nerds: The Rise of Accidental Empires," a PBS series about the founding of the PC industry. The remaining footage was believed to have been lost until a VHS copy was recently found in the garage of Paul Sen, the original producer of the PBS series.

NVIDIA has announced that it'll be providing CUDA GPUs for Barcelona's Supercomputing Center, with the facility looking to substantially boost its energy efficiency with these later this week at the SC11 Conference in Seattle. Lenovo to preempt Apple, itself with 4-core Android 4 tablet
Lenovo is hoping to put itself out in front of the next iPad update and other competitors with an imminent tablet launch, a leak uncovered Monday. The unnamed 10-inch tablet seen by Engadget would be just the second with a 1.6GHz Tegra 3 quad-core chip and would have an uncharacteristically large 2GB of faster 1,600MHz DDR3 memory. It would also be the first to ship with Android 4.0 from the start, as its fellow Tegra 3 rival the Transformer Prime may still arrive with 3.2.

Convergence Technologies is hoping to build a universal remote intended for networked media hubs, not just traditional home theater hardware. Review: Motorola Droid RAZR
The rule of thumb for 4G Android phones in 2011 has been that they must be tanks: bulky, rounded-off devices that show exactly what sacrifice you're making to get the faster speeds. Motorola with the reborn Droid RAZR (just RAZR elsewhere in the world) not only bucks that, but has what it claims is the world's thinnest smartphone. However, it's coming into especially fierce competition with the Galaxy Nexus, Rezound, and the iPhone 4S. We'll see in our Droid RAZR review if it's competitive enough to swim with the pack.

Tablets watch longer video, iPads 'crush' Android in use
Tablet owners, and more specifically iPad owners, are much more likely to be engrossed in watching video, a new Ooyala study uncovered. On average, they watched one minute and 17 seconds of video for every minute of viewing on the desktop, or more than a quarter of viewer. They were also more than twice as likely to reach the end of a video; only 30 percent of desktop viewers even passed a quarter of the clip.

Lenovo Live update outs ThinkPad X1 Hybrid, $800 Ultrabook plans
Not so hip on the ThinkPad X1's short battery life? Lenovo doesn't seem too thrilled about it either, and are prepping to launch a new twist on the X1 sporting a battery efficient "Instant Media Mode" sometime this month. A recent Lenovo Live update dubs the refresh the "ThinkPad X1 Hybrid, and shows the rig rocking the same media interface as the IdeaPad K1. The Hybrid promises Windows 7 / Media Mode switching, instant-on convenience and enough juice to get you through eight hours of video playback or up to 10 hours of web browsing. Droid RAZR's CDMA2000 and TD-SCDMA variants teased in China, the latter with 720p display
Chinese mobile customers face a similar dilemma as their American counterparts: they have to choose either China Unicom's WCDMA network, China Telecom's CDMA2000 network or China Mobile's more obscure TD-SCDMA offering. Needless to say, this can be a real headache for phone fanatics stuck on a carrier that doesn't support their desired devices, unless they don't mind surfing the web on 2G radio (if compatible at all).
