Prosthetic, robotic 'Smart Hand' has feelings, too
Researchers in Italy and Sweden have spent the last ten years developing what they call the "Smart Hand," a prosthetic hand which enables feeling in its fingertips. The hand -- which was recently wired up to a test patient through a surgical procedure -- has four motors and forty sensors which are linked directly to the brain. In the surgery, the nerve endings of the patient were linked up to receptors in the hand, which allows for feeling in the fingertips of the hand, even though the hand is not really a part of his body. iMac 27″ Teardown: Keine Alternative zum Cinema Display?
Eine interessante Preisgleichheit findet man im Apple Store. Sowohl 30″ Cinema Display wie auch 27″ iMac kosten 1799 Euro. Der Gedanke liegt nahe, statt 3 Zoll Bildschirm fürs gleiche Geld einen zusätzlichen Rechner zu erhalten. UK: Orange to offer iPhone from November 10
Potential iPhone customers in the UK this morning are learning that Orange will offer Apple’s device on its network from November 10.
The Times informs that’s the day after O2’s exclusive contract with Apple to offer the phone in the UK comes to an end. Over 200,000 UK customers are thought to have signed-up for information on the device when it reaches the network.
Orange has still not revealed prices or tariffs on the device, with analysts split as to whether new competitiveness in the UK market will see a price war on the product emerge.
Vodafone will also offer the iPhone in the UK starting next year, while the UK’s smallest operator, 3, has also said it hopes to begin sell

Sega lighters: smoking will never be cool again
Lighters are more often than not outside the scope of our coverage here at Engadget, and while we don't condone smoking or lighting anything on fire well, these are just awesome. Banpresto's launched a pre-order of these two beautiful Zippo-style lighters, a Sega Mega Drive and a Sega Saturn which runs through November 6th, with a shipping date sometime in December. Das Print-Nachschlagewerk Schnäppchenführer ist jetzt auch als App erschienen. Auf dem iPhone lassen sich damit Outlets in der unmittelbaren Umgebung anzeigen. Man kann aber auch nach Outlets in einer bestimmten Stadt suchen, eine von 275 Warengruppen aufrufen oder gezielt nach einer bestimmten Marke suchen. Die App ist 24 MB groß, kommt dafür aber auch ohne Webzugang aus. 850 deutsche Factory Outlets und Factory Outlet Center sind enthalten, nicht allerdings die Einkaufsgutscheine der Print-Version. Die App stammt von Brainformatik und kostet knapp 7 Euro.

Morgen geht es los, das Nike+ Human Race. Ick freu mir druff!
Obwohl ich heute ehrlich gesagt beinahe das Handtuch geworfen hätte (jawohl Thea!). Die härteste Zerreissprobe kommt ja fast immer zum Schluss. So auch bei mir, als ich heute nicht Böses ahnend mit meinem Fahrrad zum Nike Tower strampelte, um meine Startnummer dort abzuholen. Von Berlin Kreuzberg nach Berlin Schöneberg ist es laut der map auf meinem iPhone eine kleines Training von 30Minuten. Weit gefehlt liebes iPhone! Das hat das liebe Wunderding der Technik nicht mit einkalkuliert: dass ich mich drei Mal verfahre. Früher konnte man die Karten aus Papier einfach in den Fahrradkorb werfen und bei jeder roten Ampel oder Kreuzung schnell hervor fischen, einen Blick drauf werfen und notfalls schnell wenden. Bei herzerwärmenden 5 Grad plus, dicken Handschuhen, Schal und Mütze, muss das iPhone natürlich auch gut verpackt sein, damit es nicht erfriert, das arme Baby (an manchen Tagen erinnert es mich an diese Tamagotschis, die mussten auch dauernd behütet werden; zum Unterschied ist das iPhone die Fürsorge aber we

Sony's PSP Go hasn't had the warmest reception of all time or anything, but does it really deserve all the negative vibes being flung its way? Insignia's Little Buddy Child Tracker encourages kids to run away, disown parents
With a name like "Little Buddy Child Tracker," you know this thing has to be awful, right? Motorola Droid gets fully previewed, 'must-have' claims may not be far off
Boy Genius Report has thrown up a full preview of the Motorola Droid -- or some prototype of it, anyhow -- and any way you slice it, it looks like Android fans, Verizon fans, phone fans, and red-blooded Americans alike should all be feeling pretty good that this thing is gonna kick some ass. EU greenlights 3G on 900MHz, 1,800MHz bands
The European Union in a decision this week formally approved the use of 3G and eventually 4G data on the 900MHz and 1,800MHz GSM bands. The measure substantially improves the amount of bandwidth available for cellular Internet access in EU states and should render it less expensive as well. Besides reducing the need for more cell sites, allowing frequencies lower than 2,100MHz for 3G will also extend the range and coverage of existing service.

AT&T Mobility CEO suggests iPhone exclusivity will end... sometime

Elements+ 1.0 opens hidden features in Photoshop Elements 8
Andrei Doubrovski has released an enhancement patch, Elements+ 1.0, for Adobe's Photoshop Elements 8.0 software. The patch unlocks a number of advanced functions and makes them available in dedicated dialog boxes. The kit adds eight dialog boxes, including color and tone, selections, layers, masks, smart filters, paths, test and scripts. The scripts dialog box provides many features of the actions palate from the full Photoshop application.

Droid preview: will "murder" non-iPhone devices
Although not due to be unveiled until next week, Motorola's Droid stands to be Verizon's best phone to date, a preview finds. The first look at BGR characterizes it as one of the best Android devices to date, with high build quality, a fast processor with PowerVR graphics, good call quality and a long-lasting battery that can run for an entire day. Vuzix ships Wrap 310 video eyewear
Vuzix has begun shipping its latest video eyewear device, Wrap 310, that was initially announced in September. The new eyewear incorporates the same basic functionality as the companyís visor-style displays, but with an outer design that resembles traditional sunglasses. It features a maximum screen resolution of 428x240 for each of its widescreen displays, which is said to be comparable to viewing a 55-inch screen from approximately 10 feet away.
