Nintendo's Reggie Fils-Aime says the PSP Go has a 'fundamental concept problem'
Nintendo's Reggie Fils-Aime has been known to take a few shots at the competition in the past and, while he's not exactly verging into CE-oh no he didn't territory this time around, it seems that he just couldn't help himself from offering a few thoughts on Sony's latest handheld. Speaking with The Washington Post, Reggie says that the PSP Go has a "fundamental concept problem in terms of 'Who's it for?' and 'What's the benefit?" -- adding that he always has the "utmost respect for all our competitors, but that it's "interesting to try and answer the consumer questio

More on Snow Leopard deleting user accounts after guest login
A number of reports on the internet are now covering the problem where user accounts are getting deleted after people have logged into guest accounts on their system. Unlocked, contract-free HTC HD2 will be available November 11 for a lot of money
We know the HD2 is hitting O2 later this month and Vodafone is getting the handset in Spain in December, but now it looks like the unlocked version isn't too far off either: UK retailer Clove says it'll be out on November 11 for £469, about $740 US. Importing will soon follow, to be sure, but though the phone is unlocked and sim-free we'll be limited to EDGE in the States until that US-specific version hits our shores next year. TRENDnet releases Mini Wireless N Speed USB adapter in US
TRENDnet has released its latest Mini Wireless N Speed USB Adapter, the TEW-649UB, in the US. The adapter connects a users computer to a wireless N network, providing a significantly faster alternative to a wireless G connection. The model TEW-649UB is about 1.3 inches from end-to-end, making it only slightly larger than a US quarter. The device utilizes advanced wireless encryption to protect a users data and Wi-Fi Multimedia Quality of Service, which prioritizes video, audio and gaming traffic data.

T-Mobile 'considering additional measures' to compensate Sidekick owners
The official line is still that T-Mobile customers affected by Sidekick amnesia will be given a months' credit on their data plan, but that may not be the end of it (and considering the magnitude of the issue for affected folks, we'd certainly hope not). At this point, they're leaving the door open to more by saying that they're "considering additional measures" to help soothe the souls of those who lost contacts, notes, schedules, apps, and everything else, but exactly what those "measures" are remains to be seen. Free phones? Free service? A gift certificate to a day spa? The full (albeit brief) remarks can be found after the break.

Apples aktuelle Onlinewerbung für den iPod touch sprengt im wahrsten Sinne des Wortes den Rahmen der beschalteten Webseiten. MainMenu may cause phantom window in Expose
The system maintenance and troubleshooting utility "MainMenu" may cause a problem with Expose in Snow Leopard where a phantom window will appear when Expose is invoked. When highlighted, this will look like a large blue square next to any other window you may have open that's showing in the Expose view.

BlackBerry Storm 2 to show next week?
The BlackBerry Storm 2 should finally appear this week and represent RIM's best hope for challenging the iPhone, leaks claim today. British newspaper The Guardian states as a matter of fact that the touchscreen BlackBerry is due to launch this week first through Vodafone as the 9520 and that it will be priced with a plan inexpensive enough to lure iPhone users, as it will only need a £30 ($47) monthly plan to use versus £34 ($54) for Apple's handsets.

News: T-Mobile halts Sidekick sales after massive data loss
T-Mobile in the U.S. has halted sales of its Sidekick mobile phones after a series of gaffes left users unable to access their data, and in some cases led to the data being deleted permanently. Happy birthday iTunes movies, TV, music video
There’s a certain romanticism to watching the leaves turn from green, or new buds appear on those trees as we head to different seasons, albeit in different time zones. A time to reflect, and remember - so spare a thought today to October 12, 2005, when Apple introduced iTunes 6, confirming months of speculation with the introduction of short movies from Pixar, TV shows from Disney and a hand-picked selection of 2,000 music videos.

Google and Apple sever last tie. Arthur Levinson quits Google board
Google today announced that Arthur Levinson is leaving the Google board post he's had since 2004. The resignation comes amid increased regulatory scrutiny over his membership as a director of both the top Internet search company and Apple. You'll recall that Google CEO Eric Schmidt quit Apple's board two months ago over similar scrutiny. Apple CEO, Steve Jobs, was quoted at the time as saying that Google had entered too many of Apple's core businesses

Maybe because Apple makes it rain? Levinson, as the former Chairman and CEO of Genentech probably isn't worrying about where his next meal will come from, but all things being equal, Apple's options have generally outperformed Google'ssignificantly. In 2008 alone, he earned three times as much (over $500,000 more) from Apple as Google.
Also, as Eric Schmidt can tell you (and filed under "All other compensation" above), Apple's compensation with MacBooks and iPhones beats Google's.

If there's one thing scarier than going to the hospital for some potentially harmful harmfulness, it's getting sicker due to some minor slip-up in the carefully-observed hygiene practices of your own personal Zach Braff M.D. That's where Vioguard's newly shipping UVKB50 self-sanitizing keyboard comes in, with a proximity detector to let a set of freshly sanitized keys slide out for use by a health care professional, which slide back once they're not in use to get re-sterilized with anti-bacterial ultraviolet light. Sidekick users allowed to drop contract, switch phones
T-Mobile may let Sidekick owners affected by the permanent data loss drop their contracts and move to other phones, one subscriber says today. At least one customer reports to Gizmodo that he has been offered an early exit from his contract as well as having the option of buying a T-Mobile G1 for the same $130 price new or eligible customers would pay. BlackBerries and other smartphone-class devics have also been made options.

Second-gen WD TV Live Media Player now at Best Buy
Western Digital has updated its WD TV Live Media Player by releasing its successor. Like the original, the new player has a USB 2.0 slot for thumb drives, external drives or PCs, along with an HDMI port to connect it to TVs. Lufthansa to upgrade in-flight cellular, Wi-Fi
Airline Lufthansa revealed it will soon offer improved cellphone and Internet services on its long-distance flights, bettering those offered from other airlines. According to a Monday WSJ report (subscription required), the German company will partner with Panasonic to offer the connection services, called FlyNet, on flights between Europe and North America in the next few months before expanding the service to all of its planes and routes.

IDG completes Macworld 2010 preparations with time to spare
IDG World Expo has announced that Macworld 2010 programming has already been completed, with all of the speaker slots and content locked down five months prior to the actual event. IDG also states that over 28,000 attendees have pre-registered, roughly two-thirds of the number that normally comes to the expo. This year will be the first in some time that Apple has not officially attended a Macworld.

Editor provides tools for creating basic XML code, as well as handling XML Schema languages and multiple forms of debugging. World's cutest pint-sized living room sets up shop in a PC case
If we were miniature people forced to scrape by an existence of hiding from The Bigs and wearing adorable hats made out of thimbles, we'd be totally eyeing this little abode for our winter digs. Warming our tiny, oh-so-precious hands at the warmth of the CPU, cradling our hot chocolate mugs that are really hollowed out marshmallows and telling stories of when little Timmy Tinykins almost got sucked out the power supply exhaust fan! Palm Pre demand on O2 higher than for iPhone?
The launch of the Palm Pre on O2 could generate more attention than the iPhone did just two years earlier, a TNS study finds today. About 26 percent of 1,000 UK residents polled say they will or probably will buy a Palm Pre for its October 16th British launch; by comparison, only 17 percent planned to get an iPhone when it debuted in fall 2007. Switching is considered just as probable, as 32 percent of those on other UK carriers said they would be willing to switch to O2 to get the Pre.

ProtoDojo turns NES controller into flash drive with Konami-level security
The humble NES controller has certainly provided plenty of inspiration for mods over the years, and even a little dreaming, but it doesn't look like the well is showing any signs of drying up just yet. Comscore legt Nutzerzahlen von Social-Networking-Sites in Deutschland vor
Comscore hat Zahlen zur Entwicklung der zehn in Deutschland meistbesuchten Social-Networking-Sites vorgelegt. Während die Gesamtzahl der Internetnutzer laut Comscore seit Sommer vergangenen Jahres um 22 Prozent auf 43,27 Millionen zugenommen hat, kletterte die Zahl der Surfer auf Social-Networking-Sites nur um 15 Prozent. Sie liegt nun bei 26,7 Millionen. Mit über 14 Millionen Besuchern sind die zu StudiVZ gehörenden Sites nach wie vor das beliebteste Angebot in Deutschland. Mit einem Zuwachs von lediglich 7 Prozent stagniert das Angebot jedoch nahezu.

Dead Time Capsule congregate at an online cemetery
Related to a developing story regarding the life expectancy of Apple's router/network hard drive, Time Capsule, a website has appeared to help those mourn their loss. The folks at The Apple Time Capsule Memorial Registry have created a tracking form to draw attention to the fact that Time Capsules seem to be failing, without much deviation, around the 18-month mark. Registrants, so far, include 116 Apple customers from the U.S., Canada, the U.K., Hong Kong, Germany, Denmark, and many other countries all over the world.

Pavtube Studio has updated its MTS Converter for Mac, used to transfer MTS video to various editing software including iMovie, Final Cut Express, and Final Cut Pro. The latest version features the ability to merge multiple videos into a single file and add text, image, and video watermarks. The update also features the ability to trim, crop videos while retaining good quality of output audio and video. Version 1.4 includes customized settings for adjusting video resolution, file size, frame rate and bit rate.

Scanner Pro turns iPhones into scanners
Readdle has begun selling Scanner Pro, a new iPhone application. Users can scan in paper documents via an iPhone's built-in camera; the images are then converted into multi-page PDF documents, which can be uploaded to several different destinations. These include e-mail addresses, Wi-Fi-connected computers or any WebDAV server, such as a MobileMe iDisk folder.

Der kommende Montag wird dann Gewissheit bringen, ob Apple weiterhin stärker als der Marktdurchschnitt wachsen konnte, welche Produktlinien gut abschnitten und wo es zu Umsatzrückgängen kam. Studie: AT&T verdient an iPhone-Kunden kaum noch etwas

A flurry of reports have surfaced around the web explaining that even an accidental login to one's Guest account within Snow Leopard could lead to mass deletion of all user files on the primary account, and when we say "mass deletion," we mean "mass deletion." The problem goes something like this: if one clicks on the Guest account after upgrading their machine to OS X 10.6, and everything hangs, there's at least a decent chance that all of your data will be evaporated whenever you surf back over to the main profile.

Sidekick pulled; Microsoft may have had no backup
A major, avoidable error by Microsoft caused the permanent Sidekick data loss from over a week ago, sources said this weekend. Multiple tips to Hiptop3 claim that Microsoft had no backup of the Storage Area Network (SAN) used to hold Sidekick information and lost the data when Hitachi encountered a failure during an upgrade. Google and Apple sever last tie. Arthur Levinson quits Google board
Google today announced that Arthur Levinson is leaving the Google board post he's had since 2004. The resignation comes amid increased regulatory scrutiny over his membership as a director of both the top Internet search company and Apple. You'll recall that Google CEO Eric Schmidt quit Apple's board two months ago. Apple CEO, Steve Jobs, was quoted at the time as saying that Google had entered too many of Apple's core businesses for Schmidt to continue.
At the time, Google CEO, Eric Schmidt encouraged Levinson to stay on both boards but legal pressure forced the former Genentech CEO to resign today.

Nokia stellt grafisches Entwicklungstool für N900 fertig

Sony PSP Go game dev taken aback by lofty ESRB rating costs
Nothing really new here -- the ESRB has been charging a nominal fee to get its saucy logos on your game for years upon years now -- but the discussion of fairness has recently surfaced with the introduction of Sony's UMD-less PSP Go. A few game developers are voicing concerns about the amount the ESRB charges (we're hearing around $2,500) in order for their titles to receive a rating, particularly when those very same titles don't have such a costly requirement in Apple's App Store. Study: MIDs to be overwhelmed by smartphones
Intel's mobile Internet device (MID) platform is unlikely to get any significant traction versus smartphones even years into its life, a study from the Information Network says on Monday. Although Intel has very frequently pushed the category, which usually has a screen between five and eight inches and focuses on basic Internet access, it's only expected to sell a fraction of what smartphones will manage. IDC: Ausgaben für Cloud-Dienste steigen um 26 Prozent jährlich
Marktforscher von IDC schätzen, dass die weltweiten Ausgaben für cloudbasierte Internetdienste von derzeit 17,4 Milliarden Dollar bis 2013 auf 44,2 Milliarden Dollar ansteigen werden. Philips kann Gewinn im dritten Quartal fast verdreifachen
Philips hat heute Zahlen (PDF) für das dritte Quartal seines Geschäftsjahres 2009 vorgelegt. Daraus geht hervor, dass das Unternehmen seinen Gewinn im Vergleich zum Vorjahr von 58 Millionen auf 176 Millionen Euro gesteigert hat. Rasante Zuwachsraten bei SSDs bis 2013

Marktforscher erwarten weltweite NAND-Flash-Knappheit
Einem Bericht von Digitimes zufolge hat die Nachfrage nach NAND-Flash im dritten Quartal das Angebot um 1,3 Prozent übertroffen. Serverfehler führt zu Datenverlust bei Sidekick-Nutzern
T-Mobile USA hat am Samstag Nutzer von Sidekick-Smartphones davor gewarnt, ihre Geräte zurückzusetzen oder den Akku zu leeren beziehungsweise zu entfernen. Ansonsten könne es zum Verlust der in der Cloud gespeicherten Daten wie Kontakte, Termine, Aufgaben und Bilder kommen. Um den Rechtsstreit zwischen Apple und Psystar wurde es in der vergangenen Wochen ruhiger. Hacker versenden Spam über kompromittierte Web-Mail-Konten
Websense hat darauf hingewiesen, dass Hacker die erbeuteten Zugangsdaten zu Web-Mail-Konten von AOL, Google, Hotmail und Yahoo zum Spam-Versand missbrauchen. Demnach verschicken sie personalisierte E-Mail-Nachrichten mit Links zu gefälschten Shopping-Websites an die Kontakte der Nutzer, um persönliche Daten von den Empfängern zu erhalten.

How to Install Non-Supported Scanner in Snow Leopard
Hereafter is a report from one of our readers:
I might be the only one, but with the recent migration to 10.6, I could not install the good old scanner Epson Perfection 1650 which work working perfectly with Mac OS X 10.5. It seems that from different Epson websites, no updated installer have been released yet. So, with Snow Leopard, I am experiencing problems, especially with Epson Scan (v.2.77 and b).But I tried a last chance procedure: I re-installed it on a Mac OS X 10.5-running computer, then I copied manually and to the corresponding addresses/folders all the required files (Apps, Application Support, Profile Color Sync, etc.) onto my SL-powered Mac. It works! So, is it the installer for 10.6 which is bugged?
One can also imagine that Epson is trying to push users away from old models as they do not want to support them anymore on a recent OW. So, you are the key to try tis procedure if you need it.

Windows Phone commercial is confusing for a variety of reasons
Okay, so we understand Microsoft is trying hard to rebrand Windows Mobile as Windows Phone with the launch of WinMo 6.5, but this commercial -- labeled with AT&T logos in the US but also running unlabeled worldwide -- doesn't seem to do a good job of pointing out that Windows Phone is a platform and not a device. In fact, if we didn't know better, we'd think that the HTC Pure is, in fact, the "Windows Phone" -- even though the dude in the spot is holding a totally different generic device. See how that could be weird for people? It's almost confusing enough to distract from the jubilant anthropomorphic app icons in tights. Video after the break.

BlackBerry Storm 2 accessories roll into Best Buy
Silicone skins for the Storm 2 are starting to find their way into shipments destined to Best Buy stores around the country, another solid signal that RIM's second touchscreen effort is hitting retail sooner rather than later. What we found amusing about this first batch is that the packaging seems conflicted about what to call the thing -- 9550, Storm II (as opposed to Storm2 or Storm 2, interestingly), and even the phone's codename Odin all make appearances front and center. We suppose they're just trying to make it crystal clear what phone the skin's intended for, and with leaks going back a solid year, you've got to cover all your bases.

The radioactive compound is emitting heat with is transformed into energy by a liquid-based microcircuit. The energy density is 6 fold higher than the one recorded by standard battery, and lifetime is defined by the half-life of the radioactive isotope and can reach several years. Portable NES modded into a cartridge, hearts modded into love
We've seen NES mods that incorporate a screen and controls into a cartridge in the past, but this example from Airz in BenHeck's forums is just so clean and well-polished that we had to give it some love. Inside Airz says it's just a generic Chinese media player that can play NES, Gameboy, and Gameboy Color ROMs, along with the relevant controller bits, a 2.8-inch LCD, 4GB of storage, and a rechargeable battery.
