Dell bringing Mini 3i Android set to AT&T?
Dell, Android, and AT&T have been mentioned in an awful lot of whispered sentences over the past few months, so today's Wall Street Journal report on a Round Rock-sourced Android set for Ma Bell isn't exactly a huge surprise. Apparently Dell's making some tweaks to the Chinese-market Mini 3i in preparation for a 2010 Stateside launch -- obviously the China Mobile-specific OPhone build would have to go away in favor of full-flavored Android, and we'd bet that WiFi and a nicer camera make their way into the casing as well. Samsung vows 4X faster WiMAX mobile data
Samsung at an ITU trade show late yesterday provided an initial look at second-generation WiMAX service. Known alternately as Mobile WiMAX Release 2 or 802.16m, the technology borrows multiple-in, multiple-out technology from modern Wi-Fi as well as makes better use of available wireless spectrum. The union should result in speeds about four times faster than current WiMAX networks.

Microsoft multitouch mouse prototypes in action (video)
This week the ACM Symposium on User Interface Software and Technology (UIST) went down in British Columbia, and among all the pointing and the clicking the gang from Engadget Japanese were on hand to take a closer look at those wild and wooly multitouch mouse prototypes that Microsoft Research has been working on. Apparently Orb's hemispheric touch sensor supports a healthy helping of gestures (just the thing for point-and-shoot gaming), while Arty and FTIR certainly seem to know when you're clicking something. Group Logic, Symantec announce Mac file system archival
Group Logic has announced a partnership with Symantec in developing a file system archival (FSA) scheme for Mac-based organizations. The arrangement combines Symantec's Enterprise Vault with Group Logic's ArchiveConnect, and promises to reduce storage costs as much as 60 percent.

FCC Chairman warns of upcoming 'spectrum crisis'
FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski, speaking to attendees of the CTIA's fall event in San Diego, asserted the Commission's position on the expansion of net neutrality regulations to include mobile devices. Genachowski believes the FCC should maintain openness, "whether a person accesses the Internet from a wireless laptop or a netbook."

Powermat launches lineup of wireless chargers
Powermat has released its lineup of wireless chargers on Wednesday. The system utilizes an ultra-thin mat along with a receiver that attaches to each portable device a user charges. Powermat now also offers a custom Powercube receiver that can attach to iPhones, iPods, Nintendo game consoles and BlackBerry handsets for wireless recharging.

Sony UK site unveils new VAIO P with 2GHz Atom and Windows 7
Look, the upcoming VAIO X might be all fancy with its 11.6-inch screen and all day battery life, but Sony's not ignoring its original underpowered-and-overpriced funky laptop -- three new VAIO P configurations just went up on Sony's UK site today, all sporting Windows 7. Dell's Android phone coming to AT&T?
Dell's US-oriented Android phone will land on the same carrier as the iPhone when it ships, a rumor asserted mid-Tuesday. Unidentified tips from those "familiar with the plans" claim the Mini 3i will be tied to AT&T and should reach the network in early 2010. Talks are reported by the WSJ as underway with other US carriers, though which networks are involved and the amount of progress in negotiations aren't clear.

iPhone may account for nearly all growth in Sept. quarter
The iPhone will account for nearly all of Apple's year-over-year growth when it reports the results of its September quarter, says Caris & Company analyst Robert Cihra. The device is forecast to represent 25 percent of the quarter's reported revenue, or 38 percent of non-GAAP revenue. Cihra has raised his price target for Apple stock, which now sits at $235.

AT&T to offer Dell Android phone alongside iPhone in early 2010
If you are an electonics company and you don't have an Android phone coming in the next few quarters, you might want to check yourself. It seems just about everyone is jumping on the Andorid bandwagon, including Dell. The WSJ has this one:

Microsoft has a pretty good track record with its peripheral lineup, particularly when it comes to keyboards and mice, and it seems this latest crop is no exception. We got a quick look at the goods, and we'd say that new Bluetooth Mobile Keyboard 6000 (pictured) could find a place in our hearts with little trouble. It's deliciously thin, but feels closer to a regular Microsoft Comfort keyboard than just another transplanted laptop keyboard. HTC profit tumbles 18% from competition
Smartphone maker HTC late Tuesday reported unexpectedly poor fiscal performance for its summer quarter. Adobe AIR 2.0 to implement hardware, software links
Adobe has uncovered plans for AIR 2.0, an update to its Flash-based, cross-platform runtime environment, used in software like TweetDeck and the New York Times Reader. The v2.0 runtime will add support for accessing mass storage devices, for instance allowing a camera to transfer photos to a computer, or indirectly upload photos to a website. A new native process API will similarly let AIR apps communicate with regular desktop software, calling up extra functions when needed.

Douglas Little's Adamo series: the most expensive snake you've seen glued to a laptop all week
While Dell's partnerships with MLB and OPI are content with merely printing new designs onto the laptop lid, creative director Douglas Little of D.L. & Co. took things a lot too far with this Swarovski Crystal-embedded sterling silver snake -- adorning an etched Adamo 13 lid. We can't decide if we're offended by the gaudy display, or incredibly impressed with how audacious it is, so we'll just leave our mouths hanging open and let you decide for yourself. What we do know is that it's part of a series of one-offs produced for Bergdorf Goodman retail in some capacity, and we're sure with a bit of recession-style haggling you should have no trouble squeezing one of these onto a second mortgage.

Mitsubishi debuts power-saving RDT231WLM-S 23-inch monitor
We know it's been tough finding a 23-inch, full HD monitor that's just nondescript enough to cause not so much as a passing glance, but it looks like Mitsubishi finally has the monitor for you. In addition to that 1,920 x 1080 resolution, its new RDT231WLM-S model packs a decent 5 ms response time, a 1,000:1 contrast ratio, a full range of ports including HDMI and DVI, and an "ECO Professional" mode to cut down on power consumption whenever possible. Unfortunately, it also makes use of a TN panel, and it eschews any modern conveniences like a built-in webcam or USB hub -- but, hey, at least it's one monitor that won't collect fingerprints left and right. No price or release just yet, but we'd expect those details to be fairly inexpensive and fairly soon.

Samsung Moment for Sprint first hands-on!
We're not sure that the keyboard meets the lofty standard set by the CLIQ / DEXT, but arguably the Moment's single most important feature -- the slide-out QWERTY keyboard -- has decent feel. It's very clicky and requires a surprising amount of pressure to actuate individual keys, but not enough to be frustrating -- it just feels solid. Overall, the phone's a little bulky and has a plastic overtone to it, but fortunately, the screen's at least as good as the G1 and Magic for feel and there's no "give" to speak of; OLED's gorgeous (as always) indoors, but the true test of trying to view this thing in the sunlight might not come until we've had a chance to take delivery of a review unit. Xbox 360's new Zune, Last.fm, Facebook and Twitter features detailed on video
We just got a pretty detailed look at Microsoft's upcoming Dashboard update for the Xbox, which brings with it the Zune Video Marketplace and Last.fm music streaming, along with Facebook and Twitter social functionality. We were most impressed with Facebook, which includes a feature for spotting which of your Facebook friends have Xbox Live -- a great way to grow that friends list and bring a bit of "synergy" to your life. Nokia Booklet to hit O2 Germany October 22 for €249 on contract
Nokia just posted up some of the first official details on the launch of the Booklet 3G, and they're actually a little confusing. Buffalo intros fast USB 3.0 external hard drive
Buffalo hhas launched its first USB 3.0 hard drive in the DriveStation HD-HXU3. The 3.5-inch external disk uses the much larger bandwidth to attain transfer speeds of up to 125MBps, or between 3 and 4 times faster than the company's currently available USB 2.0 drive. Sony VAIO X specs and pricing leak out -- 2.0GHz Atom, $1,499?
We're expecting the official launch of Sony's hot little VAIO X ultraportable later today, but Boy Genius Report claims to have some leaked specs and pricing to think over while we wait -- and if they're accurate, you'll be staring down the wrong end of a $1,499 price tag when all is said and done. Yeah, it's not unexpected, but still, ouch. Mail Issue: Sent mail saving to Drafts folder
A growing issue in the Apple Support Discussions forum is centered around a problem where Mail (confirmed in Mac OS X 10.6.1) is saving sent messages to the Drafts folder. Some users suspect the inclusion of large attachments as causing the issue. FCC says there's a 'looming spectrum crisis'
"What happens when every wireless user has an iPhone, a Palm Pre, or a BlackBerry Tour?" Speaking at CTIA Wireless IT & Entertainment in San Diego today, FCC head Julius Genachowski has said that he wants to "close the spectrum gap" -- the difference between the spectrum it's making available for wireless data versus enormous usage projections (400 petabytes a month by 2013, he says) that'll be brought about by smarter, easier-to-use devices and ubiquitous high-speed data through a handful of initiatives including the promotion of the smart use of existing spectrum through the use of femotcells, WiFi, and smart antennas, and -- more importantly -- reallocation of existing spectrum. How-To: Customize new user account templates
User accounts by default are empty and contain the default system settings such as the starry space background image, the dock at the bottom with iLife and Safari in it, and an accounts folder with a template website and some PDF information documents. While in most cases this is a good starting point, in certain situations people create accounts quite frequently and would like the default desktop to be different, either for something as simple as having the background reflect a company's name, or to ensure specific applications are configured properly on new accounts.

iTunes 9: “Privatfreigabe” über das Internet freigeben - HowTo
Wer iTunes seit Anbeginn benutzt weiß, dass Apple einige Zeit die Musikfreigabe nicht auf das Abspielen der Musik begrenzt hatte, sondern sogar den Download und damit den Transfer erlaubte - bis die Musikindustrie das nicht mehr lustig fand und Apple sich nach nicht mal einer Woche durch ein kurzes Update gegen diese Funktion entschied.

Motorola Sholes and Torch battery covers unearthed (hey, it's something)
We really don't need any more convincing that the Sholes is real, but what about the Torch? Oh, you don't remember that one? Yeah, we had to look it up to refresh our memory -- turns out this was the rumored market name for the Inferno, a touchscreen featurephone Moto apparently had in the works to replace the Krave on Verizon. Time Capsule power failures continue to affect owners
Apple's Time Capsule network drives are still suffering from power failures, complaints on official support forums indicate. The failures are allegedly occurring without warning, and are thought to be attributable to faulty power supplies, though some owners have suggested problems with chips or connectors. Most at risk are older drives, as a number of the dead units are said to have been bought in early 2008. Apple last refreshed its Time Capsule line in July.

Kindle is getting some absurd deal on international wireless data?
We found out last night that Amazon's Kindle will now be riding on the same network as the iPhone in the US –at least the international version will be. Poor Yashica. The once classic camera company is now nothing more than a brand name used to flog cut-rate digital point-and-clicks. At least its latest, the EZ F521, resembles a cool retro camera (you know, as long as you don't look too closely). Dell shows thinner-than-Air Adamo XPS live
Dell at a press gathering today briefly offered an in-person look at its Adamo XPS ultraportable. True to its teaser graphic, the system is overall thinner than the MacBook Air it's designed to compete against (0.4 inches maximum) and appears to rely on a unique, underside hinge to reach its dimensions. As with very early Adamo and Inspiron 11z teasers, the company didn't provide any specifications or release information.

Psystar licenses Darwin Universal Boot Loader to third parties, chaos ensues
Like the proverbial kid brother, Psystar has amused us for years now, following Apple around, mocking it, claiming some sort of moral high ground for its Open Macs. Now, hot on the heels of Snow Leopard, the company is back with yet another ambitious project. For a fee, Psystar will license you its Darwin Universal Boot Loader (providing you're an OEM). By shipping machines with the DUBL pre-installed yet relying on the consumer to install his own Snow Leopard disk (which he obtained legally, of course) you should theoretically be able to avoid any sort of sticky legal situation of the sort that has dogged Psystar for years. Umsatz mit Hörbuch-Downloads steigt um ein Viertel
Im ersten Halbjahr 2009 ist der Umsatz mit Hörbuch-Downloads gegenüber dem Vergleichszeitraum des Vorjahrs um 25 Prozent auf 4 Millionen Euro gestiegen. Die Deutschen haben von Januar bis Juni 420.000 Hörbücher auf ihre PCs geladen, was einem Plus von 31 Prozent entspricht. Das hat der Hightech-Verband Bitkom im Vorfeld der Frankfurter Buchmesse bekannt gegeben, die am 14. Oktober beginnt. Grundlage der Angaben ist eine Erhebung der GFK Panel Services.

Ballmer sees little help from Windows 7 for PC sales
Microsoft chief Steve Ballmer today cast doubt on the likelihood that the imminent release of Windows 7 will spur growth in computer sales. He told those at a Munich press event that he still anticipates a bump in sales from those waiting for the new OS but that it would "probably not be huge." The economy is blamed for the hesitation as Ballmer doesn't see the industry fully recovering for a significant amount of time.

Dell puts OPI nail polish on laptops, forgets to announce Adamo XPS
Oh, Dell. The laptop maker piqued everyone's interest for 30 seconds this morning with a glimpse of the upcoming Adamo XPS, but when push came to shove all it has to sell anyone is some laptops with lipstick on them. Seriously. The company is partnered up with "renowned nail lacquer experts" OPI, and that means there'll be 26 new colors and patterns in the Dell Design Studio for you to pick from the next time you buy one of Dell's various adequate laptops. Colors will include 20 "classics" as well as some seasonal shades like "Dear Santa," "Merry Midnight" and "Smitten with Mitten." Ende Oktober wird O2 Nokias Booklet 3G in Deutschland auf den Markt bringen. Der Mobilfunkprovider bietet das UMTS-fähige Netbook über sein Programm "O2 My Handy" an. Sanyo intros Cube alarm radio for iPod, dual dock system
Sanyo on Wednesday introduced two new products made to work with Apple's docking iPods and iPhones, with its cube alarm clock radio, the DMP-P1, along with the dual dock music system, the DMP-692. Both can charge and play the audio content of the connected Apple devices. Either system has an AM/FM tuner, and users can choose to wake up to a preset station, the music from their Apple device or a buzzer. A sleep and snooze mode is also integrated.

Kohjinsha PA and PM series hands-on (video)
Dual-panel netbooks weren't the only takeaway from Kohjinsha's CEATEC booth, as the company also had on hand a pair of sleek MIDs. Both lightweight, Windows XP-powered touchscreen portables, the PA boasted a 4.8-inch swivel display with 1024 x 600 resolution, a 1.33GHz Intel Atom Z520 with 512MB RAM, a 32GB SSD , and a sleek industrial design. The PM is actually a bit old hat now, living a double life as the mbook M1. Still, both had very responsive screens and decent front-mount cameras, and although we still can't get the hang of the tiny keyboards, it's par for the course in the field of MIDs. Brief video

Android to beat iPhone by 2012, Gartner analysts claim
Analysts at Gartner predict Android will account for 14 percent of the global smartphone market by 2012, beating the iPhone into third place (13.7%) behind Symbian with 39 percent of the market.
These predictions mean departure of Google boss Eric Schmidt from Apple’s board was mandatory. Sure, he may have reclused his seat during iPhone discussions, but his company has pushed out a mobile OS that analysts believe will beat Apple’s iPhone.
Computerworld reports the analysis that Android will fully exploit Google’s network-based (“Cloud”) services, and that Google will continually - and rapidly - improve its mobile OS.

European Commission likes Windows 7 browser ballot screen, will probably fine Microsoft anyway
Well, it took two months, but the European Commission has finally decided that Microsoft's idea for a Windows 7 ballot screen, in which users pick which web browser they want installed, is acceptable, saying it'll give users "an effective and unbiased choice between Internet Explorer and competing Web browsers." They're no Edition 8s, but Ultrasone's newest cans are still aiming to make a believer out of you. The mid-range (by its standards, anyway) HFI-2400 headphones are collapsible, over-the-head cans that promise an "airy tone" from the 40 millimeter drivers. Lenovo IdeaPad U150 found hiding in plain sight at CEATEC (video)
Can't say we've ever seen this beaut from Lenovo before. Unassumingly tucked away along a number of already-released laptops at the Intel booth, the 11.6-inch IdeaPad U150 is a lightweight with some interesting textures tattooed on its exterior. There wasn't a lot of details at the booth beyond its name, but from what's been unearthed via an xmit online product listing, it's got a Core 2 Duo SU4100 with integrated GMA X4500 graphics, meaning we're falling away from netbooks and into CULV territory. Performance-wise, we couldn't get into it far enough to check the full specs and run some tests, but as you can see in the video after the break, the boot time is not-quite-noteworthy 30 seconds long. Gartner: Android to overtake iPhone in 2012
Google's Android will be the second-largest smartphone platform in as little as three years, according to Gartner analyst Ken Dulaney estimated on Wednesday. While it trails today, the mobile OS is predicted to climb to 14.5 percent of the market, or about 76 million phones sold per year, by the end of 2012. As a consequence, it would whittle Symbian's market share down to 39 percent (203 million phones) and just slightly overtake the iPhone, which in this view would have 13.7 percent of the market or 71.5 million devices.

EU to trial Windows 7's browser ballot feature
The European Commission on Wednesday said it would conduct a market test (PDF) of Microsoft's proposed browser ballot feature for Windows 7. The plan will let EU residents buying the Microsoft OS choose from one of multiple major web browsers shortly after they receive the system and use that in place of Internet Explorer. A successful test would make the ballot standard for most European copies and would resolve the ongoing antitrust case accusing the American firm of abusing its Windows monopoly.

As promised, FileMaker has released an updated Bento iPhone app at the App Store. The app is a scaled-down version of the desktop Bento software, and lets users create a variety of databases covering material such as contacts, events and media files. In einem Support-Dokument hat Apple MobileMe-Anwender darüber informiert, dass die Anzahl ausgehender E-Mails einer gewissen Beschränkung unterliegt. Apple tablet: Foxconn to build 300,000+ each month, ships Q1 2010
Another day, another Apple tablet rumour, and this one suggests manufacturing deals have already been done, and the product will be focused as an eBook reader.
Digitimes this morning is reporting that Foxconn (aka, Hon Hai Precision) has won the manufacturing contract, rather than Apple’s long-term Mac maker, Quanta.
This figures as Foxconn is also Apple’s iPod/iPhone product manufacturer, and suggests at least that this tablet will be a larger sibling in that side of the Apple family.
(Recall, there have been some claims of two tablets on Apple’s road map, one running OS X, the other running a variant of the OS X Mobile found on iPhones and the iPhone touch).

VoIP auf dem iPhone: Apple will Developer Agreements ändern
Nachdem AT&T nun VoIP auf dem iPhone erlauben will, wird Apple die Developer Agreements lockern: man möchte schnellstmöglich weitere Programme zur Telefonie via Internet ermöglichen.
Bislang schreibt das iPhone SDK Agreement vor, dass eine Applikation mit Zugriff auf das Handynetz keine VoIP-Dienste für dieses Netz anbieten darf. Diese Passage wird laut Apple nun geändert.

BBC entdeckt umfangreiche Datensätze zu Phishing-Opfern
Wie BBC berichtet, hat man zwei große Datensätze zu Phishing-Opfern mit mehr als 30.000 Namen und Kennwörtern einsehen können. Eine wurde von Neowin entdeckt und listet mehr als 10.000 Hotmail-Adressen auf. Die zweite von BBC entdeckte Liste enthielt dagegen auch Zugangsdaten für E-Mail-Adressen von AOL, Google Mail, Yahoo und anderen E-Mail-Providern. Buffalo ships world's first USB 3.0 hard disk drives this month
It's fine to announce USB 3.0 gear, but it's another thing entirely to actually put it up for retail. Buffalo's making the boast today that its HD-HU3 series of USB 3.0 hard disks will be the "world's first!!" to ship. Since a USB 3.0 device is pointless without a controller to support it, Buffalo will also make NEC's ¥5,300 (about $60) IFC-PCIE2U3 2-port PCI Expressx1 host controller available with its hard drives when they ship late October in Japan, almost a month before Freecom's disks hit the market. The 1TB and 1.5TB drives will cost ¥20,000 (about $225) and ¥25,300 (about $284), respectively, with a ¥46,600 (about $523) 2TB disk coming sometime later. Nikon Coolpix S1000pj torn asunder, L-shaped projector module examined
ifixit's gotten ahold of Nikon's new camera - projector hybrid, the Coolpix S1000pj, and done what they do meaning they've ripped it apart. Okay, they slowly and carefully disassembled it while painstakingly photographing the proceedings. Most interesting to us, of course, is the Nikon developed, L-shaped projector we just heard about that makes the whole set up possible, and we have to say that the internal layout of the S1000pj is terribly impressive to behold. Der Flash-Player 10.1 soll gemäß Adobe-Ankündigung fast alle mobilen Plattformen unterstützen. Lediglich bei Apple's Finest scheitert dies auch weiterhin - wie es aussieht wg. mangelnder Apple-Unterstützung. Mit dem Adobe-Tool Flash Professional CS5 allerdings soll es dennoch möglich sein, "ActionScript 3"-Projekte via Flash Professional auf dem iPhone ablaufen zu lassen. Lexmark on Tuesday introduced what it's calling the industry's first monochrome laser printer equipped with a touchscreen, the T656dne. Thanks to the 7-inch color LCD, users can access applications such as forms and favorites or eco-settings to save energy. TechSmith has released an update to its lecture- and presentation-capturing software, Camtasia Relay 1.2. The program is designed to create a video or audio record of a lecture, presentation or meeting, which can then be saved as an MP4, MP3 or WMV file. The 1.2 update features improved Real Media output and smaller MP4 file sizes to help deliver faster file transfers. Amazon Kindle drops price to $259, joins the iPhone on AT&T's International network
Amazon announced today that they were going to have an International version of the Kindle for sale for the holiday season. Until now the Kindle has used Sprint's EVDO network to get purchases and updates from the Internet. Unfortunately for current Kindle owners, Sprint's radio technology doesn't work overseas.
Enter AT&T and its global standard HSDPA network. Amazon has worked out a similar deal with AT&T as it did with Sprint, except on the AT&T version, you can roam in 100 countries with your Kindle. You can even buy the new Kindle internationally for use with US books.

Supertalent announced that they have moved closer to Toshiba to produce its new SSD disk, the Utradrive DX.
As you can see, this disk carries the two names, and for the reason that all the interior comes from Toshiba, as well the controller and the memory. In short, it is a clone of a Toshiba product. It is announced to have data speeds during reading of 230 MB/s and 180 Bo/s in writing. Apple will amend its App Store policies to allow Voice Over Internet Protocol (VoIP) apps to be submitted, according to The Associated Press. The company's decision comes following AT&T's announcement that it will expand Internet calling services on the iPhone to include VoIP. Dell to bring Mini 3i to US after all?
An apparent scoop suggests Dell has decided to bring its Mini 3i to the US after all, but not in its original form. Panasonic's 50-inch 1080p 3D plasma spotted, watched at CEATEC
At this point, Panasonic's 50-inch 3D plasma is just another one joining the fray, but considering how highly hyped the technology behind this was, we couldn't pass up an opportunity to throw our eyes on it for a bit at CEATEC. The 1080p panel was strikingly thin (or well mounted to give that impression), and the viewing angles were fantastic. The glasses that Panny provided, however, were relatively annoying (no surprise there). Apple, AT&T and Skype remark on AT&T opening VoIP over 3G. Vonage, FCC silent so far
AT&T said late Tuesday that it has informed Apple and the FCC that "it has taken the steps necessary" to enable Voice over Internet Protocol — or VOIP — services on the iPhone over its 3G wireless network. Are some Apple Time Capsules locking themselves up for good?
A backup device that's not reliable is what some may consider a "very bad thing," but that's just the charge that a sizable number of users have been leveling at Apple's Time Capsule as of late, and the complaints aren't showing any signs of letting up. What's worse is that the problem being reported doesn't appear to be related to a firmware or software update, or some other configuration issues, but rather that the Time Capsules "just die" randomly -- most after a year or more. 3M's MPro 120 pocket projector fights the good fight at CEATEC (video)
3M's MPro 120 didn't really add a whole lot of spice to the currently drab pocket projector lineup, boasting a simple VGA resolution, 4:3 aspect ratio and image quality suitable for presentations alone. HTC HD2 hands-on and impressions... on video!
We had a chance to give HTC's newest darling device -- the Windows Mobile 6.5-sporting HD2 -- a more thorough hands-on today, and we wanted to share our impressions. Firstly, we must say that HTC has done perhaps its most ambitious skinning job ever here. So while this does run atop Windows Mobile 6.5, you rarely see the OS poking through the gorgeous new Sense user interface the company has created. If you're used to TouchFLO 3D (or Sense on Android), this should seem old hat to you, but keep in mind there are some major changes here that dramatically affect the Windows Mobile experience. Digieffects releases Aged Film effects plug-in
Digieffects has released Aged Film, a new video effects plug-in for post-production suites that recreates the style of damaged filmstock. Customizable effects include dust, grain, scratches, frame jitter and color. Presets cover a variety of scenarios, including 8mm film, old home videos and shaky projectors. All effects are rendered at 16bpc.

Sony preps 56-inch, 4K resolution monitor
Sony at CEATEC is showing one of its most advanced displays to date. The 56-inch TRIMASTER SRM-L560 monitor has a near-4K resolution, which translates to 3840x2160 pixels or four times the resolution of 1080p. Despite this, the LED backlit TV has a 176-degree viewing angle from all sides and is meant to be a color-accurate preview for video pros and others who need large screens.

Microsoft mulling Zune software for Mac
Microsoft today acknowledged that it has debated porting the Zune software and its according services to the Mac or even to portable Apple devices like the iPhone and iPod. Director of Communications for TV, Video and Music Jose Pinero explained to Mary Jo Foley that it's one of "a lot of options" for platform expansion but also stressed that the Zune platform isn't tied to players like the Zune HD or even necessarily to Microsoft. Its own platforms take highest priority but aren't exclusive.
