James Cameron ponders 48 or 60fps shooting of future Avatar films, because he's trendy like that

Oh, Jameson. You trendy, trendy trendsetter. After coercing the entire world of cinema to bow down and worship the art of 3D, it looks as if James Cameron will soon be spearheading the effort to back away from the tried-and-true 24fps shooting method in favor of far faster options. The Hollywood Reporter is claiming that Cameron copped to the idea of shooting Avatar 2 and 3 at higher frame rates, likely 48fps or 60fps. The reason? It'll provide an "added sense of reality," and it'll probably create a wave of new camcorders, software and plug-ins to handle the dirty work. Onward and upward, we suppose.

Purported iPod nano 7 part shows camera's return

A finding in Taiwan may have shown the iPod nano's seventh generation regaining a camera. The part unearthed by Apple.pro shows what looks like the current iPod, but with a machined cutout area that would clearly be designed to fit a camera lens on the back. Filed under: Elektro Vehikel Unser Kollege Tim Stevens von Engadget-US durfte einige Stunden im Cockpit des Tesla Roadster 2.5 Sport verbringen und ist schwer beeindruckt wieder ausgestiegen. Besonders bequem fand er die Innenausstattung zwar nicht, aber egal - auch ein Elektrosportwagen soll ja in erster Linie sportlich sein, basta. I never think I'd be writing about Time Warner Cable as an advocate for consumers getting more content, but sure enough, that's what the cable provider has become. Amazon said to be considering NFC-based mobile payment service

As you may be aware, Amazon does actually already make it easier for you to shop at places other than Amazon.com with its Amazon Payments service, and it now looks like it might even be thinking about expanding things to brick and mortar stores as well. More specifically, Bloomberg is reporting that Amazon is exploring a mobile payment service based on NFC technology, which would let you pay for items and receive things like loyalty points using nothing other than an NFC-equipped cellphone. Apple moves to patent Spaces-like feature for iPad interface

Apple appears to have considered an iPad multitasking feature that mimics the Spaces function in Mac OS X, according to details in a patent filing that was published this week. Kyocera rumored entering tablets with Katsura gaming slate

Kyocera may be the next to jump into the tablet game based on a rumor emerging late Friday. Supposedly called the Katsura ("tree'), the slate would have a wider aspect ratio than most and bears a very basic similarity to the Huawei S7 Slim. Analyst: Tegra 2 inherently limited in fight with Apple's A5

The iPad 2's speed edge over the Xoom may have come from inherent freedoms for Apple in designing the A5 chip over NVIDIA's Tegra 2, RBS analyst Didier Scemama said. He pointed out that NVIDIA by necessity had to design the Tegra 2 to its customers' price, which he estimated at $15 to $20. Apple wasn't hindered by having to please someone else and could pay Samsung $25 per chip for the A5 if it meant getting the fastest chip possible.

Witness for iPhone turns your Mac into a home alarm system

If you have $40 and a recent Mac with an iSight camera, then you have the makings of a simple home surveillance system thanks to Witness. Developed by Orbicule, Witness is a surveillance app that turns your Mac's camera into a motion sensor. The application runs in the background on your computer and will begin recording video or photos if motion is detected. The system includes a free remote iOS app compatible with the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. When an intruder is detected, Witness will send a notification to your iOS device and your web browser if it is open. Photos and video captured by the Witness app are available online and can viewed using a web browser or via the Witness Remote application.
