Nook Tablet's Read and Record hands-on (video)
The multimedia features on the new Nook Tablet mean more than just watching video and listening to music -- they actually give a bit of a boost to the reading experience, as well. One of the best implementations of this is the new Read and Record feature, an update to the Nook Color's Read and Play feature, which takes advantage of the Tablet's new mic to let users (parents in most cases, we assume) record narration to children's books. Pioneer Zypr promises free, cross-platform Siri alternative
Pioneer in an unusual break from hardware unveiled what could be a universal equivalent to Apple's Siri for natural-language voice. Zypr provides a web-based but native-friendly programming interface that lets apps take commands that usually apply to specific services, such as social networking from Facebook or Twitter, INRIX traffic, AccuWeather, Slacker Radio, and Yelp place ratings. The method allows combining services and lets data port over from service to service.

iOS 5: Französischer Hacker arbeitet an unthethered Jailbreak
Fans eines Jailbreaks sitzen zur Zeit in der Zwickmühle, denn die aktuelle Version des mobilen Betriebssystems iOS 5 lässt sich ausschließlich mit sogenannten tethered-Varianten jailbreaken. C3 tech supports street, interior views
C3 -- rumored to have been bought out by Apple -- has been working on street and even interior views for its technology, reports note. Eric Schmidt says Siri poses competitive threat to Google

iClipboard 4 adds Paste Blaster, search functions
Chronos has released iClipboard 4, an upgrade of the company's clipboard manager. The software saves a history of everything a person copies to the OS X clipboard, allowing users to pick from many different items instead of just one at a time. Siri hacked in mostly complete form on iPhone 3GS (video)
Siri has been hacked on to its oldest device yet after Grant Paul and Steve Troughton-Smith successfully produced code to get it working on the iPhone 3GS. The voice command system works largely as anticipated, including the connection to Apple's servers. New nanotube battery technology leads to blisteringly fast recharges, improved safety features
Some day, your restroom break may be enough time to charge your [insert nifty gadget here] halfway. A group of researchers at the Department of Energy's Argonne National Laboratory has discovered that nanotubes composed of titanium dioxide can switch their phase as a battery is cycled, gradually boosting their operational capacity. OLED a distant prospect for Apple products, says analyst
Despite recent reports, it's unlikely that Apple will use OLED panels in its products anytime soon, says Canaccord Genuity analyst Jonathan Dorsheimer. Dear Aunt TUAW,
My siblings and I will make the plunge and get our mom an iPad 2 for Christmas.
The thing is, my sister is in Texas expecting our family's first grandchild, and mom is out in California.
Is there an app/website/solution that would let my sister publish photos of the new baby to somewhere, and my mom would get a push notification or badge that tells her "Hey, you have new photos to look at." The simpler the better, on both ends.
Keep in mind, sister has an Android phone, and the both of them are PC users (I know, I know, especially since my partner works for Apple, but we can only convert one product at a time).

Nintendo patent posits Wiimote touchpad extension, looks like plumbing schematic
This patent from Nintendo envisions how it could bring a touch interface to its Wiimotes through an (admittedly unwieldy-looking) controller extension. While the Wii U already looks set to bring touchscreen fun to all things big-screened and Nintendo-themed, this concept offers up touch functionality to existing Wiis through an infrared LED that picks up the location of your finger and transmits it periscope-style to the IR sensor on the Wiimote. OmniVision lowers guidance based on mystery drop in orders
OmniVision raised questions about future smartphones and tablets after it dropped its guidance for its just-finished quarter. It now expected to make $212 million to $217 million in revenue instead of the $255 million to $275 million it predicted in August. iPhone 4S demand persists, stores drain stock daily
The iPhone 4S is flying off the shelves in the US and abroad. An inventory check of 30 Apple retail stores by Deutsche Bank analyst Chris Whitmore suggests stores are selling their entire stock of handsets as soon as they hit the loading dock. Between 85% to 90% of stores surveyed run out of inventory each day. Apple stores are receiving daily shipments and customers unable to buy a handset due to low inventory are being instructed to make an online appointment for next day pickup on a first come, first serve basis.

iPad-Gerüchte: iPad 2-Update im März 2012 – iPad 3 Ende 2012
Die Sehnsucht nach einem neuen iPad ist groß. Doch bevor das runderneuerte iPad 3 auf den Markt kommt, wird im Vorfeld ein kleineres Update für den März erwartet. Das iPad 3 lässt laut Gerüchten noch etwas auf sich warten.
In der Apple-Bloggerszene ist man sich sicher: Apple wird schon bald mit der Produktion eines iPad 2-Updates beginnen, um den erwarteten Ansturm auf die Tablet-PCs gerecht zu werden. Uneins ist man bezüglich des Namens. So taucht u.a. der Name iPad Plus/S auf. Einfacherer und auch logischer wäre die Bezeichnung iPad S2. Einerseits würde eine größere Umbennung beim Kunden für unnötig Verwirrung sorgen, andererseits passt der Name iPad S2 analog zu den iPhone-Modellen 3GS und 4S. Google+ launches Pages for businesses and brands
It may have taken a while, but Google has now officially opened up Google+ to business and brands, not just individuals. It's calling it Google+ Pages, but there appears to be little difference between a Page and an individual account in practice -- you're able to add Pages to any of your regular Circles, and Page owners are able to post as usual and take part in Hangouts. Using Siri to talk to a Mac 512K
Remember that scene in Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home where Scotty converses with a vintage Mac by picking up the mouse and intoning "Computer" to it? Well, YouTube regular "napabar" has gone one better by getting Siri on an iPhone 4S to create a text file on a mint-condition Mac 512K. Talk to the iPhone 4S, and moments later a text file appears on the Mac 512K.

Apple could get temporary suspension of Motorola injunction
On Friday, a German court granted Motorola an injunction against Apple and awarded damages in a patent infringement case. This ruling was a default judgment handed to Motorola because Apple, for some unknown reason, failed to defend itself in this case.
Much confusion exists over the impact of this decision. Apple responded in a statement to CNET and claimed "This is a procedural issue and has nothing to do with the merits of the case." Apple spokeswoman Kristin Huguet also said, "It does not affect our ability to do business or sell products in Germany at this time."

Apple should sell about 14 million iPads during the holiday quarter, according to a new estimate by Canaccord Genuity analyst T. Michael Walkley. The number would represent a significant rise from the previous quarter, when Apple sold 11.12 million units. Barnes & Noble's Nook Tablet gets real, we go hands-on (video)
Sure, we can't say we didn't see this coming -- Barnes & Noble today launched its answer to the Kindle Fire. The new Nook Tablet certainly isn't all that new from an aesthetic standpoint, compared with the Nook Color. Walking into a store blind, it would be awfully tough to distinguish the devices -- though the Tablet is bit lighter, color wise. What separates Barnes & Noble's two higher end readers is largely internal. Unfortunately, the products being show off at today's event weren't quite ready for prime time.

Sprint ordered to show iPhone effect in DOJ lawsuit vs. AT&T
AT&T claimed a minor victory after a rare weekend ruling saw Sprint required to hand over requested documents where Apple played a large role. Judge Levie claimed it was "entitled" to know what Sprint's iPhone 4S deal and other recent additions would do to its market share as part of its defense against the Department of Justice's antitrust case blocking the T-Mobile merger. Mail: Mehrere E-Mail-Absender einrichten – ohne Zusatz-Account
Viele Macintosh oder iPhone User dürften die letzten Tage bzw. Wochen auf die iCloud umgestiegen sein. Vielleicht hat man sogar den weitaus besser konfigurierbaren GoogleMail-Dienst hinter sich gelassen.
Ein absolutes Standard-Vorgehen in der heutigen Zeit ist das Versenden von E-Mails von verschiedenen Absender-Adressen. Beispielsweise läuft Ihr privater E-Mail-Verkehr noch über Google, die geschäftlichen E-Mails wollen Sie jedoch von einer @me.com Adresse empfangen / senden. Leider, leider bietet die iCloud so ein grundlegendes Feature nicht an, und somit müssen Sie dort von Hand nachhelfen.
Dies ist jedoch leicht gelöst, verzichtet man doch sowieso meist darauf vom Webclient aus seine E-Mails zu senden.

Spotify app on Windows Phone hands-on
We just got our first hands-on with Spotify on Windows Phone, running on a Jil Sander device from LG, of all things. This instantly gives Spotify users a new reason to step up and subscribe to the premium plan, and it gives Windows Phone users a new reason to get excited about, well, music. The interface is predictably slick, as you'd expect from a Mango app and, after signing on, we were easily able to browse our playlists, browse our friends' playlists and of course search for some tunes. Pre-orders for the Hong Kong version of the iPhone 4S sold out in a space of 10 minutes, says Ticonderoga Securities analyst Brian White. 85-90 percent of Apple Stores running out of iPhone 4S daily
Apple Stores are still regularly running out of iPhone 4S stock, says Deutsche Bank analyst Chris Whitmore. "I studied film studies and nothing to do with games, and also studied the Japanese language. And I had lived in Japan for a couple of years, so I was fluent in Japanese," he remembers in a recent interview with TUAW. Nook Color goes multimedia with Hulu Plus, Pandora, Rhapsody, more
Sure, today's Barnes & Noble event is all about the Nook Tablet, but don't think for one second that the lowly old Nook Color isn't getting any love. As expected, the color screen reader being hooked up with some upgrades of its own -- there will be 100 enhancements in all, according to Barnes & Noble. Central to the upgrade is content from top-tier content streaming sites like Hulu, Pandora, Grooveshark and MOG. Looks like it's not time to count the Nook Color out just yet.

HTC talks patent deals to fight Apple, Android 4.0 updates
HTC outlined some of its Android plans on Monday that included both the courtroom and its products. Daily iPhone App: Poker Pals
I'll admit it: I never got into Words with Friends. I know it's a very popular and well-done game, but for some reason, Scrabble-style titles never appealed to me. But Poker Pals, a social title recently published by Chillingo and developed by Aspyr, scratches the same itch for me.
Instead of using titles to spell words, you instead use them to make poker hands, and you get points for making the rarest ones. There are joker cards on each of the four corners that will line up to match whatever you put near them, and since the board is a little smaller than the standard Scrabble board (not to mention that every "hand" you make is five cards), I find it a little faster and more interesting than word-making games.

Ford kicked off the Los Angeles Motor Show by unveiling a remake of its MyFord Touch interface that it knew drivers were hoping for. The interface addresses the early user complaints and is both considerably easier to understand as well as more responsive to touch input. Audio, climate control, navigation, and phone calls all have more readily accessible common controls and are less cluttered, and the four are united by a home screen that's both easier to understand and quicker to use for top-level features.

Panasonic GX1 returns Micro Four Thirds to form
Panasonic as anticipated switched its focus back to more experienced photographers with a new compact Lumix Micro Four Thirds camera. The GX1 is the first in the small-body series to get an upgraded 16-megapixel CMOS sensor and has better low-light performance along with an ISO 12,800 sensitivity ceiling. Customization is also once again more important: it now has C1 and C2 modes that support a total of four user presets, two programmable buttons, and a thumb wheel.

Panasonic unveils 3D-capable 3D1 camera
Panasonic gave a minor surprise with its Lumix updates by unveiling its first 3D camera. The DMC-3D1 guns after the same market as the Fujifilm Real 3D line. It revolves around two 12.1-megapixel cameras, each with 25-100mm lenses, that together produce a stereoscopic 3D effect.
