It looks like the iPhone speculation train is gaining steam on the way to its final destination, and this time it's flying by Cincinnati Bell's pre-paid service, i-Wireless. A helpful tipster sent in the above screenshot of an iPhone 5 placeholder, accompanied by a $639.99 price tag and a handful of specs: 32GB, 4-inch screen and 4G data speeds. Nokia developing 'Meltemi' OS for feature phones?

Although Nokia still hopes Windows Phone will round out a "three-horse race" with iOS and Android, it's said to be cooking up an entirely new operating system aimed at lower-end handsets. iPhone 4S references show in iTunes with dual-mode hints

Apple's plans for at least one new iPhone model have been solidified after checks in iTunes 10.5 beta 9. New discoveries in the .plist files by 9to5 have shown repeated references to an "iPhone 4S." A more detailed look has also given it the N94AP name that has been commonly associated with at least one future iPhone variant.

iPhone 5 appears temporarily on Cincinnati Bell website

TUAW reader Cory L. sent us an image today that he had captured from his web browser while perusing the i-Wireless prepaid cell phone section of the Cincinnati Bell website. The screenshot shows a placeholder for an iPhone 5 with no image and no "Add to basket" purchase button. A quick look at the site now shows that the placeholder has been removed. There are some fascinating things about this -- first, Cincinnati Bell is a regional carrier in the US, not a major carrier like AT&T or Verizon. Second, the website is for a pay-as-you-go program. Finally, the specs that are listed for the phone show an 8MP camera, 4G speeds (Cory notes that Cincinnati Bell's network uses HSPA+), and a 4" screen. Estimate: Amazon Kindle Fire sold at $10 loss to build share

Amazon's Kindle Fire is being sold at a loss to heat up competition with Barnes & Noble and Apple, IHS iSuppli estimated Friday. Based on a list of known and expected components, it believes the seven-inch mini tablet costs $209.63 in raw parts and manufacturing, or about $10 less than its $$199 asking price. A high-quality IPS-based LCD at $87 is a large part of that cost, while adding the dual-core TI OMAP processor and other mainboard components pushes it up by another $70.40.

Google opens store-in-a-store, plans expansion

Google drew more comparisons to Apple again on Friday after it opened its first retail presence in the UK. The store-within-a-store, located in the PC World in London's electronics-friendly Tottenham Court Road, exists primarily to sell Chromebooks. Camera Plus Pro hits version 4: more live filters, speed

Global Delight has updated their iPhone camera app Camera Plus Pro to version 4.0, adding additional live filters to both photos and videos, reinstated its Smooth Video Zoom feature, improved the ability of the app to share photos and videos to social services and photo-storage sites such as Facebook and Picasa, and improved the overall speed of the app with a new capture engine that is 30 times faster than the previous release.

Even though I do a lot of high end photo work, I still enjoy using the iPhone's camera, and i was especially happy to see Apple add HDR capabilities to the iPhone 4. HDR lets you get good pictures under challenging conditions when there is a mixture of very bright light, like the sky, and objects in shadow. Verizon files proper appeal against FCC net neutrality rules

As expected, Verizon on Friday formally submitted a federal appeal against the FCC's net neutrality rules now that they should take effect. The telecom giant repeated the same general complaints it made when it made a premature appeal in January. It tried to portray the US agency as out of control, making "potentially sweeping and unneeded regulations" and fostering "uncertainty" in the industry.

Apple TV coming to seven more countries next week

Apple's little black set-top box is due to arrive in seven more countries next week, according to a release from Apple sent to MacRumors. Belgium, Luxembourg, The Netherlands, Sweden, Denmark, Norway and Finland are all on the list of those receiving the device for sale, so if you're in one of those places and need more content on your TV, there you go.
