DualEyes for Mac goes final, syncs audio and video

Following a short public beta period, Singular Software has announced the availability of DualEyes for Mac, a standalone audio/video sync utility. While today's iPhones and digital SLRs can capture high-quality video, their audio often leaves a lot to be desired. The usual solution to this problem is to record the audio separately, and then laboriously try to marry them back together in editing. DualEyes takes video clips with poor native audio and higher-quality audio recordings and synchronizes them for use with almost any video-editing software.

Amazon Prime users see free unlimited movie streaming

Amazon's plans for unlimited movie streaming akin to Netflix appeared to come to early fruition on Saturday as a spotting has shown the service in action. At least one Amazon Prime subscriber has seen options in the Video On Demand section to stream movies and TV shows, even major recent releases, as part of the $79 yearly subscription. The catalog seen by an Engadget reader had 5,000 titles that would show in 480p.

The 2011 Macworld Expo brought a modest increase in exhibitor numbers since the 2010 show, but many people were waiting to see the crowd sizes before gauging the show's success. German researchers prototype 6mm thick pico projector

Pico projectors just keep shrinking, and a new prototype developed at the Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Optics and Engineering is helping said shrinking along pretty strikingly. The team has developed a prototype pico which is just 6mm thick, making it the world's slimmest ever. When Steve Jobs announced the App Store, he made it clear that Apple would be happy to take on the costs of hosting and distributing free apps. I remember thinking at the time that he actually seemed to be pushing the idea of free apps. Free apps helped launch the iOS App Store into having stratospheric numbers of available apps, and probably pushed down the overall price of many other apps as well. But there's no such thing as a free lunch, even in the App Store(s). Apps take time and skill to be developed, and one of the unfortunate side-effects of the App Store pricing is that many people now expect apps to be free or low-priced. This new solution (they just launched this week) offers encrypted Time Machine sync to the cloud and even create a bootable version of the local drive you've been using for Time Machine thus far. Nook Color earns its very early, very unofficial Android 3.0 Honeycomb wings

One of the first things that happens after a new platform emulator breaks loose is that a bunch of hackers far smarter than ourselves get hold of it, tear it apart, and port it to whatever's convenient. Hands on: Joos Orange solar charger, battery for iOS devices
