AMDs Catalyst Control Center runderneuert

Jumsoft has released a new stationery pack, Mail Stationery Smart, for Apple Mail. The new pack contains 100 templates, along with a bonus pack of 10 holiday greetings. Nike de-emphasizing Nike+iPod?
Nike is directing shoppers' attention away from iPhones and iPods in new marketing, a report notes. In some ads appearing in stores, the sports gear maker is advertising the Nike+ SportBand as "the freedom of running without music." Toshiba says 2009 a one-off 'bump' in Windows PC sales
Toshiba digital products GM Jeff Barney mentioned on Monday that Toshiba expects to grow faster than the PC industry average in the last few months of 2010, but also that Microsoft had some rare flukes in 2009. He estimated that his own company would see year-over-year growth in the "low teens" but was rare. While healthy, most of the industry would only grow by a few percentage points because Microsoft had a rare confluence of a new OS release and the height of the netbook fad working to its advantage, Barney told Reuters.

ReTweetie adds legitimate retweeting to Tweetie Mac
One of the biggest frustrations with Tweetie for Mac is the lack of legitimate retweeting to your followers. While it's understandable that the developers have been a tad busy in the past year, it doesn't seem all that unreasonable to at least issue an update tp include a very basic Twitter function.

Find My iPhone no longer needs automatic mail delivery to be enabled
Apple has recently eliminated one of the configuration requirements and potential points of failure for Find My iPhone (FMI) on your iOS device.
About a year ago we reported that there were three settings that you had to have enabled in order for FMI to work:
1. Under Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > (Your Mobile Me account), you must set "Find My iPhone" to ON. This is not enabled by default.
2. Settings > General > Location Services has to be on
3. Under Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Fetch New Data, you must either enable Push OR have fetch set to Every 15 minutes, 30 minutes, or Hourly. If you disable Push and set Fetch to "Manually" Find My iPhone will not work.

iTunes preps for annual 12 Days of Christmas promotion
Apple has formally announced the 2010 edition of its 12 Days of Christmas promotion. For each 24 hours of the event, the company will be offering free downloads from different sections of the iTunes Store. Clear iSpot gets web-based crack needed for some iPads
Clear's iSpot router was given a simple crack today that would let it work on more than just iOS devices. iSpot Unrestricted 2.0 requires just two clicks and a reboot to both allow any Wi-Fi device to share the 4G connection as well as to switch on USB tethering and prevent the device from reverting back to its earlier state through an automatic firmware update. A previous delimiter had already existed but didn't work with the same simplicity.

Goldman Sachs resumes Apple coverage, targets AAPL at $430
Investing firm Goldman Sachs has decided to start covering Apple's stock profile, and that news sent the AAPL stock price up to $325.06 this morning, a nice boost from the day before. And that's not all -- not only did Goldman Sachs pull AAPL into its reporting fold, but it was about as bullish as you can get on a stock, saying through a spokesman that "we believe significant growth and profit opportunities for this platform still lie ahead." The company had been covering Apple previously, but when that special analyst left the firm, it took them a while to find a replacement. But it looks like they've found someone else they feel qualified to make a prediction.

An update for Microsoft Office for Mac 2011 (14.0.2) boasts improved reliability when accessing Office for Mac through third-party applications, problems with Microsoft's AutoUpdate program and improved stability for Outlook 2011.

New Aeon visualizer from SoundSpectrum enlivens iTunes
iTunes is loaded with features - some we love and some we don't. One feature that I really like for parties is the iTunes Visualizer, the trippy light show that plays in-sync with your music. Toshiba said building LCD display factory to supply iPhone 6
Toshiba is building a large factory dedicated primarily to making LCDs for Apple, Nikkei said today. The Japanese firm would spend about $1.19 billion to make small LCDs and would primarily supply high resolution, low-temperature polysilicon (LTPS) LCDs for iPhones. Infinity Blade earns $1.6M in 5 days
Epic. GameIndustry (registration required) and AppModo looked at the Game Center data for Infinity Blade (our review) and found that 274,000 players had registered the game by the evening of December 12. MSI: Intel's Oak Trail 'not significant' help for tablets
MSI in a talk on Monday promised to more formally introduce its WindPad tablets at this year's CES but cautioned that Intel might not play the biggest role. Although Intel is placing most of its faith on the Oak Trail Atom platform, North American Sales Director Andy Tung said to Engadget that the battery life and speed increases were "not extremely significant" compared to existing designs. The WindPad 100 was being improved to use Oak Trail but would keep the 10-inch, 1024x600 touchscreen, an accelerometer, mini HDMI and USB connectors as well as an SD card slot.

News: Toshiba building plant to make LCDs for Apple
Toshiba will spend roughly $1.2 billion to build a new factory for making small LCD panels, primarily for Apple, according to a new report. Ping allows users to share playlists
Apple continues to improve Ping, its iTunes-based social network, by adding support for shared iTunes playlists. Customers can now create a new playlist (or import an existing one) and share it with their Ping followers. Here's how it works.
To create new playlist to share, connect to Ping and then click your account. You'll see "Create a new Ping playlist." From there you can give it a name and description and start dragging tracks from your iTunes library into the list (any song that's in the iTunes store can be included). 360 MacDev day two: a recap of the Denver nerd-fest
Saturday was the second and last day of 360 MacDev in Denver, and it was full of excellent topics from the world of Mac development. Although I was unable to stay for the last three speakers (my apologies, guys!), the morning and lunch sessions were very useful and educational.

Investment firm Goldman Sachs has resumed coverage of Apple stock, assigning the company a $430 price target. Asymco: Android not helping Verizon fight the iPhone
The popularity of Android on Verizon hasn't been enough to stop AT&T from walking away with the US smartphone market with the iPhone, Asymco's Horace Dediu said Monday. Basing his information on potential insider info from ITG Investment Research's Matthew Goodman compared with AT&T's recent results, the analyst noted that Google's platform wasn't stopping Verizon's smartphone sales from declining and was mostly preventing an even steeper drop. Apple has started using its iTun.es domain as a URL shortener, while adding playlist sharing to Ping, its new music-focused social network. Paul Allen's lawsuit against Apple dismissed
The suit filed against Apple (and others) by Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen was dismissed as being too vague on Friday. According to the Wall Street Journal, U.S. District Judge Marsha Pechman has given Allen's company, Interval Licensing LLC (the plaintiff in the case), until December 28 to file an amended complaint. "The allegations in the complaint are spartan," wrote Judge Pechman. Allen called the judge's order a "procedural issue" through a spokesperson.
Allen's suit, filed in August of 2010, identifies four specific patents. Each appears to be a huge part of how contemporary e-commerce and Internet search tools work. For example, one addresses how

Intel reducing 2011 Core discounts to help clear Windows PCs
Intel has tried to keep the price high on the Huron River platform driving its Sandy Bridge processors to clear out excess stock, notebook makers claimed on Monday. Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP and likely other Windows PC builders have all reportedly been forced to keep using the older Core processor platform, Calpella, as their main platform until at least February as the computers haven't been selling as well as Intel hoped. Court tosses Interval lawsuit vs. Apple, Facebook, Google
Judge Marsha Pechman on Friday dismissed Interval Licensing's patent lawsuit against major online providers. The official tossed the complaint for being too "spartan," as it didn't identify what devices or services actually infringed the patents with "any specificity." Roku drops new firmware in time for the holidays, XR gets 1080p, Hulu optimization for all

Jedes Jahr das gleiche Spiel. Man kommt im Dezember nach Hause und schon ist der Stapel an Tasks bereits aufgestellt. Der Drucker muss installiert werden, die Festplatte funktioniert nicht, das Windows ist auch noch unausgepackt. Weihnachten kann für uns ziemlich stressig werden, wenn sich die Eltern auf unsere Technikkompetenz verlassen und nicht selber zu Potte kommen. Google Latitude for iPhone finally official
Google early this morning at last released a native version of Google Latitude for the iPhone (free, App Store). The title as confirmed by its brief tease last week fully supports iOS 4 and optionally provides constant position updates in the background on an iPhone 3GS or iPhone 4. Neo Defender 2 is another title from the good folks at Appular, who we've talked about here on TUAW before. Neo Defender 2 is an Asteroids-style shooter, but the twist is that instead of moving around the screen, your ship stays firmly in the middle, leaving you to watch all sides and protect yourself from attacking shapes and forms. This lets you use mechanics like multi-touch on the screen to send shots out in all directions, and since enemies split and spread when you attack them, you have to constantly be on the lookout for where to shoot and keep them at bay.

SOL ist eine interaktive Rauminstallation, die den Ursprung der Solarenergie verdeutlichen möchte. Nuklearfusionen können hier spielerisch erfahren werden. Es ist als würde man inmitten einer Sonne stehen, ganz ohne radikale Hitze und Strahlung, und dabei das Chaos der Protonen erleben. Umgesetzt wurde das Projekt von der Berliner Agentur The Product. Neben Openframeworks für das Kameratracking und der Software Gestalt, kamen noch Creative Computing (DMX Lichtkontrolle) und Supercollider (Dynamischer Audio Output) zum Einsatz. Boba Font, C3typo und Sanstroopers. Der Grafiker und Illustrator Fabian Glez hat ausschließlich aus Buchstaben Star Wars Charakere nachgebaut und das Ergebnis ist wohl mit die feinste Fusion von Lucas-Epos und Typografie. World's first Nissan Leaf delivered -- it's black, like the future of gas-powered cars
Somebody at Nissan knows how to keep to a calendar, it seems, as the promised December US deliveries of the Leaf began over this weekend. Cydia to launch alternative Mac App Store within weeks
Cydia creator Jay ìsaurikî Freeman has used the 360|MacDev conference to announce that he intends to launch a Mac App Store alternative within weeks. Apple mysteriously kills jailbreak detection API while hacker boosts iOS security, irony restored
It's no secret that Apple's been keen to monitor the lot of naughty jailbreakers, but it turns out the company has recently shelved iOS 4.0's jailbreak detection API with no explanation given. While this has little effect on the average user, Network World explains that this is bad news for enterprise IT and MDM (mobile device management) vendors, who will now have one fewer channel for checking whether a user's iOS device has been jailbroken and thus become vulnerable to attacks. Speaking to the Economic Club of Washington, D.C. this week, GM CEO Dan Akerson described Toyota's hybrid as a "geek-mobile," and flatly declared that he "wouldn't be caught dead in a Prius." Apple now using iTun.es for Twitter link shortener
Last month we reported when a MacRumors reader pointed out that Apple owned the iTun.es domain name. At the time it was speculated that Apple could begin using iTun.es as a domain link shortener for Ping URLs on Twitter.
Over the weekend that has become a reality. Now when you select the "Share on Twitter" drop-down option for a song in iTunes, the iTunes link is truncated to iTun.es to cut down on the character length of your tweet. Pretty sweet!Appl

Once upon a time, you could touch your music -- or at least caress a 7- or 12-inch vinyl disc -- but these days the cool kids stream MP3s (and OGGs, and APEs) off the internet.
