The paperless office: How to get there (and a discount ebook offer)
Last Wednesday on TUAW TV Live, I discussed my success over the past year at moving towards the ultimate goal of a paperless office. I thought it would be a good idea for me to pass along some of the methods I've been using to accomplish this elusive goal, and also offer a deal to our readers for an ebook all about the subject.
My earliest steps towards a paperless office actually came a few years ago, when I went to electronic statements for my banks and credit cards. However, up until the beginning of 2010, the filing system for my business consisted of big binders or folders into which I would slip the printed copies of those statements along with a ton of other paperwork. Crytek seeking iOS developers, leaves us guessing at the reason
Are you interested in and capable of developing "complex, integrated iPhone/iPad applications"? Crytek will want to hear from you, then, as the author of the CryEngine has this week advertised its intention to leap into the Apple orchard known as iOS via a job posting. NVIDIA's faulty laptop GPU settlement starts paying out, file your repair and reimbursement claims now

Will rental car companies ding you for returning half-charged electric vehicles? Enterprise won't.

Mit iConnectMIDI von iConnectivity kommt jetzt das erste professionelle MIDI-Interface für iOS-Geräte raus, das sämtliche Core MIDI-Features von iOS 4.2 unterstützt und auch externe MIDI-Geräte wie Keyboards, Synthesizer und Drummachines einbinden kann. Neben zwei mini-USB-Ports hat es auch 2×2 MIDI-Anschlüsse (2 Ins und 2 Outs) und einen weiteren USB-Port, zwischen denen man den Fluss der MIDI-Daten frei hin- und herrouten kann. World sends 107 trillion emails in 2010, most of them about enlarging your stock portfolio
Hold on to your seats, stat lovers, 2010 is about to hit you with the full force of its quantifiable web exploits. Web monitoring site Pingdom reports that last year we all sent 107 trillion emails to our loved and unloved ones, which breaks down to 294 billion per day, though only 10.9 percent of those weren't spam. There are now 1.88 billion email users around the globe and when they're not too busy communicating, they're surfing one of the net's 255 million total sites (21.4 million of which are said to have arrived in 2010).

Notion Ink Adam: Auslieferung beginnt "um den Mittwoch herum"
Rohan Shravan, der Gründer von Notion Ink, teilt auf seinem Blog mit, dass das Adam-Tablet den Segen der US-Zulassungsbehörde FCC erhalten habe. Nike+ GPS app adds new Tag feature to foster competition between friends
We just talked to Nike last week about its Nike+ GPS app for the iPhone, and there's another update to the already full-featured app. A new feature called Tag brings competition into Nike+ GPS. After you finish a run in the app, you can press the Tag button to invite as many of your friends or contacts to the game as you want; each user invited has to complete a certain goal within three days. The goal can be set for distance, time, or the last person to actually go running. At the end of the game, everyone gets to know who was "IT" -- whoever went the shortest or whoever ran last.
It's all meant in fun, but it seems like a cool, social way to keep

NTIA says LightSquared proposal could pose national security threat

Es bietet regelbare Main Outs als große Klinke, zwei XLR-Eingänge mit regelbarer Vorverstärkung und Phantom-Power, einer davon auf Gitarren-Impedanz schaltbar, ein regelbarer Kopfhörerausgang, MIDI In und Out, USB MIDI, einen RCA-Videoausgang und sogar einen Fusspedalanschluss. iPhone increases US-China trade deficit by $2 billion
According to a report by a pair of economists out of the Asian Development Bank Institute, the success of Apple's iPhone plays a major role in contributing to the USA's trade deficit with China. The Wall Street Journal (login required) explains that while sales of the iPhone show around a $2 billion trade surplus with China on paper as of 2009, the actual figure is a lot less because the iPhone is only assembled in China, not designed there. While the wholesale price of an iPhone is $178.96, the value of the only truly "Chinese" part is assembly, valued at $6.50 per unit. Winter Namm 2011: analoge Drummachine Tempest von Roger Linn und Dave Smith (Videos)
Daran haben wir eigentlich nicht mehr geglaubt: Roger Linn (unter anderem Erfinder der MPC-Reihe und der Linndrum und Gewinner des Grammys) und Dave Smith (DSI und einer der Miterfinder von MIDI) haben ihre analoge Drummachine Tempest auf der Winter Namm 2011 vorgestellt. Bereits seit ein paar Jahren hatten sie das geplant (zuerst hiess sie Boomchick, dann LinnDrum II), dann aber immer wieder verschoben. Jetzt ist sie da und hat für einen ersten Prototypen schon ziemlich viel drauf, wie man in den Videos nach dem Break sieht. The Beatles sell five million songs on iTunes
The Loop reports that The Beatles have sold five million songs and one million albums since going on sale in the ITunes Store last November. So far, the most popular Beatles song download is "Here Comes the Sun," while the band's top-selling album is "Abbey Road."

Holy reverse KIRF Batman! Meizu M9 ROM ported to HTC EVO 4G

Notion Ink Adam clears FCC, begins shipping 'around Wednesday'

Apple's new Berlin store will open in upscale Kurfürstendamm

Geohot wins round one against Sony (we think), SCEA's restraining order denied

Skype's acquisition of Qik is now complete
Huh, that was fast. Barely one week has passed since Skype announced plans to acquire rival Qik, and now the buyout is complete. Skype celebrated with a blog post announcing the deal and reaffirms that its teams will be "working together to make our mobile video products even better." OMGuitar iPad app lets you strum away on your iPad
This music video of a girl playing Garbage's "Only Happy When it Rains" (embedded in the continuation of this post) is actually an ad for an iPad app called OMGuitar, but that doesn't make it any less impressive -- the app looks pretty good. It allows you to hit a button to choose whatever chord you want to play, and then you strum along on virtual strings to your heart's content. The app also offers up some simple guitar effects to play around with as well.
Unfortunately, since you're playing with an iPad, there's no tactile feedback, so I'd imagine you'd have to practice a bit to know exactly where to put your fingers and when. But give
