Rumors surrounding a Google social network came to a head on Saturday as a leak provided early details of how it would work and a heavy mobile component. Now thought to be called Google +1 to reflect a cornerstone 'like' feature, it would be significantly different compared Facebook and focus on an optional browser extension instead of a website. Viacom to appeal YouTube case, stokes straw man fears

Viacom on Friday said it would appeal its loss to YouTube in a Second US Circuit Court of Appeals after attempting to sue the video site for copyright infringement. It argued that the court incorrectly interpreted the Digital Millennium Copyright Act by ruling that YouTube had followed safe harbor guidelines by initially dealing with piracy only by responding to takedown requests from Viacom and others. The judge's statement that YouTube "welcomed" piracy, even if it took down violators, was proof the DMCA didn't apply, Viacom said.

Nexus S shows off its camera, video recording abilities

At this point, there's essentially nothing that we don't already know about the Nexus S except when it'll be officially revealed, of course. But up until now, we haven't had a good look at what exactly the impending smartphone's camera sensor could do. Thanks to an unsuspecting Picasa stream, we're now being treated to a handful of images captured by a Samsung GT-I9020 -- or in other terms, a Nexus S. If you haven't noticed already, Disney (and the rest of the world, seemingly) is going all-out for this year's rendition of Tron. What's potentially better than a cinematical remake? You're looking at it. The Tron Armchair was dreamed up and designed by New York's own Dror Benshetrit, with the seating apparatus officially debuting this week at Design Miami / Art Basel. PlayStation phone seen in videos with PlayStation menu

A leaker today obtained hands-on access to the Sony Ericsson Z1, better known as the PlayStation phone, and has posted videos (below) that reveal a PlayStation menu that signals Sony's intent to challenge Apple. The slider is running what appears to be a stock version of Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) but has a PlayStation icon that, when launched, shows a menu which would hold games specific to the Z1. It's not yet known for certain how users will get apps, but it's been suggested that Android Market would have a specific section for PlayStation games.

Norwegian Apple reseller suffers break-in, 50 boxes stolen

An Apple reseller in Norway, of all places, suffered a break-in earlier this morning. According to the main local paper, Aftenposten, the thieves stole a BMW, which was then used to back into the store as seen in the wild pictures above. Once the storefront was broken open, 50 boxes were lifted from the property. While the stolen property was not identified, odds are that there were at least a few iPads in there, given that the device was just released in that country. Two masked men were apparently seen fleeing the scene, but it's not known if the police have gotten in touch with Batman or Robin yet.

Google on Friday virtually confirmed plans for its larger YouTube movie service through word it had bought out Widevine.
