T-Mobile Galaxy Tab up for pre-order at $700 off-contract

Amazon has quietly begun taking pre-orders for the T-Mobile version of the Samsung Galaxy Tab that suggest the carrier may charge a premium. Another Apple exec cashes in: $44M for Johnson

Apple's senior vice-president in charge of retail operations, Ron Johnson, sold 150,000 shares of stock in the company last Thursday, according to SEC filings posted by Apple on Saturday. With a strike price of $11.06, and an average sell price of $306, the executive received a $44 million dollar windfall. Johnson is in charge of running Apple's retail empire, now encompassing 317 stores and still growing at a furious pace both in store openings and profitability, setting records all the more impressive in light of the recession-bound economy.

Microsoft switches focus from Silverlight to HTML5

Microsoft server president Bob Muglia late this week confirmed a broader shift at the company away from Silverlight on the web and towards HTML5. Silverlight was now primarily the development platform for Windows Phone 7, but more cross-platform efforts would rely on the more universal standard. Muglia stressed to ZDNet that Silverlight would still run on Macs and (indirectly) Linux systems, but HTML5 was the only guarantee of support for the iPhone and Pad.
