We were pretty impressed by the unique design of the iriver SPINN media player when we got our hands on it last year, but that doesn't mean it's a design that'll instantly improve any device, as fully exemplified by this little wonder now making the rounds in China. Apple shares fall on reports of lower Jan. sales
Apple shares fell approximately 4 percent in Thursday trading as a result of a report originally released on Tuesday, observes Needham analyst Charlie Wolf. The report noted that retail Mac sales in the US fell 6 percent in January, at the same time as iPod sales dropped 14 percent. The situation is not nearly as bad as investors appear to have decided though, according to Wolf.

Comcast, TWC mull online TV streaming

It's been quite a while since Trimble last popped up on our radar, but the company looks to be making a respectable showing for itself with its new Yuma UMPC, which packs all the ruggedness you'd expect from the company (MIL-STD-810F and IP67 ratings) plus some decent enough specs. Motorola with big touchscreen emerges, doesn't disgust
What's this, a high-end slate from Motorola that we can all cautiously get behind? Hard as it may be to believe, it seems that Moto might be working on some serious hardware to compete with well, anything. We don't have any information on this device we're seeing here beyond what we can make out from the picture -- 5 megapixel Kodak-branded camera, big touchscreen, TV-out, and a xenon flash -- but the tip suggests that this could be Moto's first Android device. Apple reicht File-Sharing bei MobileMe nach
Apple hat nun endlich die «File-Sharing»-Funktion zu MobileMe hinzugefügt. Die eigentlich schon für Sommer 2008 angekündigte Funktion hällt nun endlich Einzug in den Online-Service von Apple. «File Sharing» erlaubt MobileMe-Anwendern kleine aber vor allem auch grosse Dateien über MobileMe zu veröffentlichen. Die so veröffentlichten Dateien können per Passwort geschützt werden, ebenso kann der Zugriff auf die Dateien zeitlich begrenzt werden. Angeblich Fotos von neuem iPhone aufgetaucht
Heute sind Fotos von einem angeblich neuen iPhone aufgetaucht. Die Fotos zeigen ein schwarzes iPhone mit einer matten Rückseite. Das auf den Fotos gezeigte iPhone trägt eine bisher unbekannte Model-Nummer A1303. Die matte Rückseite könnte auf die Rückkehr von einem Metall als Material statt dem jetzigen Hartplastik zurückführen. Das erste iPhone hatte ebenfalls eine metallene Rückseite. Kaum treffen die ersten neuen 17-Zoll MacBook-Pro-Boliden bei den Kunden ein, wurde ein Modell bereits von iFixit auseinandergenommen. LG shows off solar phone, battery cover at MWC
Proving (as usual) that it's not too big for a little tit-for-tat with its crosstown rival, LG showed its own concept solar phone at MWC this week to match up with Samsung's Blue Earth. The prototype LG handset doesn't have a name -- takes a whole team of high-priced consultants to christen a product like that, we'd wager -- but we do know that the slider can eke 3 minutes' worth of life out of a 10-minute charge in natural light. The thing looks like it was thrown together in a week, but hey, as long as it works, we know LG can take care of the design side of things by the time production rolls around.

According to IfoAppleStore, Apple has not only confirmed the existence of the long-rumored Carousel de Louvre Apple Store location but also announced the opening of a new, unexpected location in the university city of Montpellier. Nestled along the Mediterranean Coast, Montpellier is home to 225,000 residents, and another 225,000 in the metro area, not to mention lots of tourists. Rumor mill says public Windows 7 Release Candidate coming on April 10th
Ars Technica is reporting that several sources are now pointing to a likely Release Candidate build of Windows 7 being made publicly available on April 10th. While we can't attest to the probability of this occurence occuring on that date, they're also reporting that the development team's progress is confirmed as being on track for that date, so we'll just have to wait with breath baited to see if the unicorn (our term for the OS) appears then or not.

HP confirms support for Windows Mobile 6.5
No big surprises here -- HP's announced for Windows Mobile 6.5 for its future devices, confirming what we already knew: HP is awesome. The company cites WinMo 6.5's "key enhancements to business productivity, personal messaging and mobile Internet capabilities" plus its "new visual appeal" as some of the reasons for its continued love of the OS. Hanging around on show quietly amongst the glitz and glamor of MWC was this little guy -- an 8MP prototype by camera manufacturer Jabil for mobile phones which boasts a physical shutter. The module is 10 x 10 x 8mm in size, and also boasts an autofocus feature. The company is currently shopping around for manufacturers that might want to pack the module into their phones. We'll keep our eyes on this one -- because we'd definitley like to see it on some devices.

Ungenutzter Dialog in iPhoto 09: iPhone als GPS-Datenlogger?
Auf die Idee, die Kamera des iPhone einer DSLR- oder überhaupt irgendeiner echten Kamera vorzuziehen, bloß weil das iPhone die Positionsdaten mit abspeichert, werden nur die wenigsten kommen. Ein ungenutzter Dialog in iPhoto 09 gibt einen Hinweis darauf, dass Apple zumindest darüber nachgedacht hat, mit dem iPhone Positionsdaten aufzuzeichnen.

Einmal drehen bitte: MacRumors-Forum-Teilnehmer "monthy" war von den Zweiflern an seinem Foto des angeblich nächsten Mac mini offenbar so genervt, dass er nun auch ein Video veröffentlicht hat. Das Video zeigt einen bis auf die Schnittstellenbestückung unveränderten Mac mini. Über die Quelle für das Gerät gibt "monthy" verständlicherweise keine Auskunft - Apple dürfte wenig erfreut sein, wenn Vorserien-Geräte an die Öffentlichkeit gelangen.

Bye bye Barcelona and Mobile World Congress 2009
Another MWC is done and we're on one hand happy we were there to cover it for y'all, sad to see it gone, but relieved we can start eating normally and sleeping again. So what did we see? Expansys puts Nokia N86 up for pre-order, gives it a release date
If our trusty old, leaky friends at Expansys are to be believed, European markets can expect to see Nokia's N86 handset on or about July 22, 2009. This would seem to be in line with the Q2 2009 estimate we'd previously heard, though the Expansys price -- €659.99 (about $853) -- is a lot higher than the €375 quote we've heard. Either way, the dual-slider boasts an 8MP camera with a Carl Zeiss Tessar lens, AutoFocus, a mechanical shutter and a dual-LED flash, and is sure to be an eye-popper for cameraphone buffs when it does appear. HTC Diamond2 TouchFLO 3D screenshots appear for your enjoyment
Windows Mobile 6.5 got the lion's share of attention this week at MWC, but HTC's TouchFLO 3D shell for 6.1 got some interesting interface tweaks for the new Touch Pro2 and Touch Diamond2, and we'd say they're actually more interesting than 6.5 honeycomb launcher and new unlock screen -- especially the newly revised keyboards with haptic feedback. Look, we'll level with you: we don't know exactly what we're looking at. After seeing that Mac mini pic yesterday, we were about 140 percent sure it was a classic Photoshop disaster. Now we don't know what to think. One thing is for sure -- this isn't done with Photoshop. The above video was offered up by the original poster of the first pic to back up his or her claims of a "2009 Penryn" mini. Nachdem gestern Abend ein Bild zum neuen Mac mini mit 5 USB-Anschlüssen und Mini-DVI- sowie DisplayPort-Anschluss in Umlauf kam und sogar schon negative Bildanalysen bezüglich bekannten Fehlern beim Fälschen von Bildern veröffentlicht wurden ist nun ein Video des selben Gerätes veröffentlicht worden. Philips gives Cinema 21:9 HDTV a price and release date
We'd already heard during a UK preview show that Philips' Euro-only Cinema 21:9 HDTV would be priced around £3,000 when it launched sometime this Spring, but now we've got some more official details to share (and only half of it is good). So, the good news -- we're told that this behemoth will start shipping "as soon as June." The bad? The 56-inch ultra-widescreen panel will run you €4,000 ($5,045).
