PC-Markt wächst dank Notebooksegment
Nach Angaben der Marktforscher von IDC wächst der PC-Markt in diesem Jahr um 12,8 Prozent auf weltweit 302 Millionen verkaufte PCs, Notebooks und Server. Bis ins Jahr 2012 prognostizieren die Analysten weiterhin einen kontinuierlichen Anstieg, wenn auch nicht mit solch hohen Raten wie in diesem oder dem letzten Jahr.

Wii homebrew inches along, now has rudimentary channel support

Today's Wii homebrew hotness comes by way of Team Twiizers, whose new hack takes last week's CameCube-free loader and enables custom channel icons that load hacked apps just like that. Getting from point A to point B still isn't a cakewalk yet, though; you still have to load the Zelda / Twilight hack and use it to reboot your Wii to get that app into the channel space. We might like it more if Behavior Tech Computer Corp. were in the business of creating devices to assist in BF Skinner inspired experiments, but instead they've just got stuff like this 9051H Cheetah keyboard / mouse combo. The board has that righty-oriented FPS key cluster, backlit keys that change color according to typing speed, comes bundled with that generic looking laser mouse with variable DPI (800, 1300, and 2000) and two programmable buttons. Mac: iTunes-Hörbücher mit Join Together
Wer Hörbücher in iTunes und auf dem iPod im Hörbuchmenü anstatt im Musikbereich finden will, muss diese (sofern sie nicht im iTunes Store oder bei Audible gekauft wurden) in ein spezielles Dateiformat konvertieren: AAC. Diese Aufgabe lässt sich inzwischen recht komfortabel mit Join Together von Doug Adams erstellen. Das kostenlose Programm fasst die kurzen Einzeldateien einer Hörbuch-CD zu einer - auf Wunsch auch mit Lesezeichenfunktion ausgestatteten - AAC-Datei zusammen. Lesezeichen bedeutet in diesem Fall, dass das Hörbuch stets an der zuletzt gehörten Stelle weiterläuft, auch wenn man zwischendurch Musik oder ein anderes Hörbuch gehört hat.
Wir hatten hier bereits Lösungen für Windows und den Mac vorgestellt, Join Together wurde inzwischen so gut weiterentwickelt, dass es diesen ausführlichen Eintrag verdient hat.

A Beautiful Mod: a Mac Pro mini
We and numerous Mac users are expecting 2 things from Apple: an update of the Mac mini, and a entry-level tower model which will be cheaper than the mac Pro.
On the blog Hahabusa illustrates how one could mod a Mac mini into a Mac Pro design, a Mac Pro mini.
Our congratulations to the author of this mod, as the quality of the design and the integration are really amazing. Of course, it would be great to have a PCI-Express slot, something impossible in the current Mac mini, but let's hope that such mod will push Steve &Co to finally offer Mac users the entry level tower model that many of use are waiting for. Shuttle's KPC ready for prime time, starts at $299 for a ready-made unit

Intels Benchmarks von Atom (Silverthorne)
Auf der CeBIT durften wir einem 1,6 GHz schnellen Intel Atom (Codename Silverthorne) mit SuperPI auf den Zahn fühlen. Verglichen mit anderen x86-Prozessoren fällt die mäßig Performance auf, der Energieeffizienz des Chips, der eine TDP von nur zwei Watt besitzt, ist jedoch kein Konkurrent gewachsen.

PDF-Dateien spielend in Word 2008 konvertieren
Die Nach - und Weiterbearbeitung von Dokumenten fällt häufig schwer, wenn das Original aus dem pdf-Format in Microsoft Word übertragen werden soll. Abhilfe schafft das nun in der Version 4.0 erschienene Programm PDF2Office Personal für Mac OS X. It is almost identical to the 8800 GTS 512 MB since its GPU is only 25 MHz faster and that the memory has gained 100 MHz.
It has a ROM of 128 kB, it is just like the GTS usable in the Mac Pro Rev 2.
