Comcast sues FCC for not letting it own anything it wants

iPod as seen from space
OK, we know astronauts like to take their iPods with them - the European Space Agency even launched an iPod playlist competition last year - but this picture's interesting in a different way.
You see, what we have here is a picture of an iPod on the flight deck of the Space Shuttle Endeavour as photographed by the crew on board the International Space Station.
To the left of the picture you can clearly see that tell-tale white iPod sitting on the flight deck. It's the first time an iPod's been photographed inside one space vehicle by someone in another.

Apple TV a "billion dollar business", analyst claims
Apple TV won't be a hobby for much longer should Apple move to introduce support for digital video recording and a TV tuner, at least according to one analyst.
American Technology Research analyst Shaw Wu notes Apple's recently disclosed patent filing which covered a way to add DVR features to the Apple TV. Wu also notes Apple plans to implement Blu-ray support in future Macs.

iPod Update 1.3 for 5th generation released
Apple has released update 1.3 for fifth-generation iPods through iTunes. The new release contains "bug fixes," supersedes all previous versions and weighs in at about 6.3MB. You can install the new update by connecting your iPod to your computer and running iTunes.

Noch einfacher iPod touch mit 16/32GB jailbreaken
Mit Ziphone wurde es erstmalig sehr einfach ein iPhone frei zuschalten und für Funktionen zu nutzen, die Apple normalerweise nicht vorsieht. MacBook Air: Festplattentausch bald komplizierter
Die Vor- und Nachteile des MacBook Air sind längst bekannt und wurden schon oft unter die Lupe genommen. Dünn und leicht ist es, aber auf so manches Bauteil müssen Käufer des Gerätes verzichten. Auch im Falle eines Festplattenwechsels ist Obacht geboten, denn alle Hersteller verabschieden sich von der im MacBook Air noch verwendeten PATA-Schnittstelle. Verizon gloms onto "P4P," doubles up on the competition
We're guessing we're not the only one to have never heard of P4P before now, but there's probably a good reason for that: it doesn't exist yet. See, P4P is designed to speed up peer-to-peer file transfers and alleviate network strain by using information about network conditions and network topology in order to increase routing efficiency -- more bits, less work. The problem is that you're going to need service provider cooperation to pull that off (P4P stands for Proactive network Provider Participation for P2P) and now Verizon has signed on to take the concept to the next level. OK, we know astronauts like to take their iPods with them - the European Space Agency even launched an iPod playlist competition last year - but this picture's interesting in a different way.
You see, what we have here is a picture of an iPod on the flight deck of the Space Shuttle Endeavour as photographed by the crew on board the International Space Station.
To the left of the picture you can clearly see that tell-tale white iPod sitting on the flight deck. It's the first time an iPod's been photographed inside one space vehicle by someone in another.

Das iPhone mit 16 Gigabyte Speicher scheint derzeit weltweit Mangelware zu sein. T-Mobile kann in Deutschland keine Geräte liefern und ließ über die Hotline für Geschäftskunden verlauten, dass es möglicherweise erst im Mai wieder neue Geräte gäbe (Danke, Sebastian). BattleBots headed to an ESPN near you -- now with less suck

Lucky for us, the concept is getting another shot at life thanks to the fine folks at ESPN 2 and ESPNU. Studie: Verkauf von Notebooks verdoppelt sich bis 2012
Die Analysten von IDC rechnen in der Sparte "Notebooks" mit einem beschleunigten Wachstum bis 2010 und beziffern den erwarteten Zuwachs auf 36 Millionen Notebooks. Anschließend soll das Wachstum bis 2012 abnehmen. Bis zu diesem Zeitpunkt könnten bis zu 236 Millionen Laptops verkauft sein, was einem fast doppelten Zuwachs gegenüber 2007 gleichkäme. GeForce 8800 GT für ersten Mac Pro nicht in Sicht
Kurz nach der Vorstellung des aktuellen Mac Pro beschwerten sich viele Kunden, darüber das die GeForce-8800-GT-Grafikkarte als BTO-Option nur mit dem neuen Gerät funktionierte. Ein wenig später gab NVIDIA bekannt, die Grafikkarte auch Nutzern eines älteren Mac Pros zur Verfügung zu stellen. Wie Tuaw bemerkt hat, wurde nach gut neun Jahren die Dokumentation zu AppleScript, Apples Skriptsprache zur Automatisierung und Erweiterung von Programmen, aktualisiert. Das letzte Update war am 5. Heute hat der Verkaufsstart des Iphone in Österreich begonnen. Das Smartphone ist über den Exklusivprovider T-Mobile Austria erhältlich. Das Unternehmen bietet die 8-GByte-Version für 399 Euro an, das 16-GByte-Modell kostet 499 Euro. Der "Classic"-Tarif ist für eine Grundgebühr von 39 Euro inklusive 1000 Freiminuten in alle Netze erhältlich. It should be a bigger success compared to previous years, as it should mark the launch of third-party applications on the iPhone.

Disney satisfied with its iTunes sales
Source: Macworld UK So Apple struggled to fill the virtual shelves of the iTunes Store with films, according to information from Disney. The company considers itself satisfied with the sales since it put its videos online. They have sold 4 million films and 40 to 50 million shorts for a total of $ 123 million in 2007. Yet, with a turnover of 35 billion overall, this is a drop in the ocean.
Disney certainly believes that this is an encouraging start, unless they just wanted to give a little boost to a company that shares a large shareholder with them.

Apple chooses Kroll Ontrack for data recovery

AppleInsider hat einen interessanten Patentantrag ausgegraben, der offensichtlich die Erweiterung von Apple TV um die Funktionen eines Videorekorders beschreibt.
Die Grafiken zeigen verschiedene On Screen-Menüs und es wird die Möglichkeit der Programmierung über einen iPod skizziert. AppleInsider beschreibt die Option, die Programmierung von Aufnahmen ortsunabhängig vorzunehmen, nachdem die Senderdaten auf den iPod übertragen wurden. In der Konsequenz bietet sich nach unserem Verständnis dann auch die Möglichkeit, die Aufnahmen wiederum auf den iPod (touch oder iPhone) zu übertragen und ebenso ortsunabhängig zu konsumieren.
