Hands-on with Navigon's new 8110 and 2100 Max GPS units

We're fairly impressed with Navigon's showing at CeBIT, busting out those 4.3-inch 2100 Max PNDs at a $299 pricepoint, and raising the bar for GPS sexy with the 8110. The software for the 2100 Max couldn't be much more frill-free, but we found the 3D maps of the 8110 -- as in, actual 3D terrain -- to be quite impressive. We didn't see any 3D buildings in our demo, but apparently you can download those to flesh out the experience.

Mac: iTunes-Pause wenn Ton weg
Breakaway kostet nichts und könnte bei so manchem Mac-Besitzer Gefallen finden. Das kleine Programm sorgt dafür, dass der aktuell gespielte iTunes-Song gestoppt wird, sobald der Kopfhörer am Mac ausgesteckt wird oder man die Lautstärke auf Null regelt bzw. die Mute-Taste drückt. FNAC wants the iPhone at all costs

Rock Band drum kit modded for pencil use

Apple nears pan-European iPhone deal
As Apple prepares for its iPhone announcement this week, the company appears close to inking deals to introduce its product across many additional European territories.
iPhone is presently only available in the UK, France and Germany; now the company is nearing deals to offer it in the Netherlands, Belgium, Switzerland, Austria, Ireland, Italy and Spain.

YouTube gibt sich Pro iPod-Videos

Garmins neue GPS-Systeme: Sprachbefehle und 5,2-Zoll-Display
Garmin hat in Hannover mit dem nüvi 860 sein neues Premium-Navigationsgerät gezeigt. Damit hält auch bei Garmin die Sprachsteuerung Einzug auf dem GPS-System. Daneben war ein Navigationssystem mit 5,2-Zoll-Display zu sehen. Das nüvi 5000 ist mit einem Videoeingang für eine Rückfahrkamera ausgestattet, die beim Rangieren helfen soll. Warner spurns iTunes, favours 7 Digital
In a major digital music announcement Warner Music last night made its music available free of DRM in Europe - but not on iTunes.
Warner and other major labels continue to drum up interest in legal digital music service other than iTunes in an attempt to boost their hand in convincing Apple to move away from its fixed price format for music.
This industry in-fighting has been good news for UK digital music service, 7 Digital, which is now the first European service to offer Warner Music’s catalogue DRM-free through its stores in the UK, Ireland, Spain, France and Germany. Warner already offers DRM-free content to US audiences through Amazon’s MP3 store.
iPod users needn’t worry - they can take advantage of 7 Digital’s launch offer, in which selected Warner Music albums are being sold in MP3 format for £5 each.

Wesley McGrew hat ein Tool entwickelt, das die Idee der Cold-Boot-Attacke nutzt, um Passwörter im Arbeitsspeicher zu erspähen. Die Cold-Boot-Attacke macht sich zunutze, dass der Inhalt vom Arbeitsspeicher nicht sofort verschwindet. Wird ein Rechner schnell genug neu gestartet, ist so ein Zugriff auf die Daten möglich. Der McGrew Security RAM Dumper - kurz msramdmp - kann für diesen Zweck von einem USB-Stick gestartet werden und schreibt anschließend den Inhalt des Arbeitsspeichers auf den Stick.

Maxell to no longer manufacture discs, blow customers away

Preissenkungen: iPod nano und iPod classic billiger
Im deutschen Apple Store wurden die Preise für den iPod nano und den iPod classic gesenkt. Den iPod nano gibt es ab sofort für 139 Euro mit 4 GB und 189 Euro mit 8 GB Speicher, der iPod classic kostet jetzt mit 80 GB Festplattenplatz 229 Euro, für die große Version mit 160 GB Speicher muss man nur noch 329 Euro berappen.
Anlass für die Preissenkungen dürfte wohl neben dem beim iPod nano relevanten stetigen Preisverfall auf dem Markt für Flashspeicher auch der gegenüber dem Euro derzeit äußerst schwache US-Dollar sein.

Yahoo Go 3.0 in Deutsch angekündigt
Yahoo hat auf der CeBIT 2008 die Verfügbarkeit der Handy-Software Yahoo Go 3.0 in deutscher Version angekündigt. ASUS' 9-inch Eee PC, now with living pixels!

We showed you quite a bit of the 9-inch Eee PC from ASUS yesterday, but they wouldn't let us turn it on. Now that CeBIT has officially begun, however, ASUS is lighting up those pixels loud and proud. ASUS tells us the screen is 1024 x 600, and it looks to be almost the exact same pixel density as the 7-inch version. Mit dem Slider T303 präsentiert Sony Ericsson ein Tri-Band-GPRS-Handy, das gerade einmal so groß ist wie eine Visitenkarte. Iomega hat auf der CeBIT 2008 ein Back-up-Laufwerk für die dritte Generation seiner REV-Wechselfestplatten vorgestellt. Laut einem aktuellen Bericht des britischen Medienforschungsunternehmens Wiggin verbringen 15- bis 19-jährige Nutzer von sozialen Netzwerken im Internet bedeutend weniger Zeit mit ihren Hausaufgaben als vor der Registrierung bei einem der Portale. CeBIT: Kodak bringt Scanner für kleine Unternehmen
Speziell für kleine und mittlere Unternehmen hat Kodak zur CeBIT den Desktop-Scanner Scanmate i1120 auf den Markt gebracht. Die Dokumentenscannerlösung kommt mit einem umfangreichen Softwarepaket: Newsoft Presto Bizcard 5 scannt und liest Visitenkarten. Anschließend schreibt es die Kontaktdaten in eine Datenbank. We probably have already heard all kind of information concerning the amount of money earned by artists when selling their music on the iTunes Store. My label just added my second album to the iTunes Store couple of weeks ago (http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewAlbum?id=271184650&s=143442), and we just received the first report. Hereafter are the true figures:
Adding the album to the online store is carried out via a company entitled CDBaby (taking already its margin):

Source : Digitimes Asus has provoked an electroshock in the world of the portable PC with its Eee PC, a portable computer fitted with a tiny 7" screen, having as principal advantage its price, less 300 euros. This computer has met enormous success and Asus has already foreseen a 8.9" version.
After this surprise, the competitors have reacted and many Asiatic constructors have announced an equivalent model.
Dell does not want to leave this market to others and so it must also release something as soon as possible.
It must be stated that it is due to Intel that this makes the release of the Eee PC possible. The chip maker did not want to leave this market to VIA and has launched the Silverthorn platform which is marvelous for these products, thanks to the ratio of price/performance/packaging size.

At first glance, this I-T Click Click mini-mouse from Suvil looked to be the solution to all the world's ills. Not so much. In fact, this thing is awkward enough to hold and cheaply enough built that it'd probably be hard pressed to solve world hunger. The premise is simple enough: you rotate the mouse slightly for ergonomics, left click with the "fingernail" button and use the button at your thumb for right click. It all falls apart with use, however, with the scroll wheel gumming things up, and the fact that the "right click" is in use by your leftmost digit not helping anything. The news no one at Apple wants to hear? The new entry level MacBook might be slower than the old one. According to Primate Labs Blog, that might be true. The real culprit, according to the blog (and common sense) is the lowering of the level 2 cache on the entry level Penryn processors from 4mb to 3mb. While the higher end processor also got 1Mb of level 2 cache lopped off, the processor speed makes up the difference.:

Mac mini gets the steampunk treatment, matching keyboard and monitor

It takes quite a bit for a steampunk mod to get our attention these days, but this Mac mini created by steampunk enthusiast Dave Veloz certainly fits the bill, and the matching keyboard and monitor aren't too shabby either.
