Yahoo! looks for a way to save its independence
Source : http://www.nytimes.comFriday, those responsible for running Yahoo! met in crisis conference to discuss possible solutions to escape from the Microsoft takeover.
Many possibilities were explored, which included a search-related joint venture with Google, however this poses legal worries because of the anti-monopoly laws. However, Google itself is ready to offer help to Yahoo! to fend off this takeover that they have denounced and seem to fear. Google currently reigns supreme on the Web, however does fear Microsoft increasing its web presence, especially as it seeks a way to impose itself after so many failures. One of the ways that Google could help Yahoo!, would be to sell off licences to them for their search engines and publicity management that are very efficient.
What is certain, it is that Ya

Bluetooth SIG looks at Bluetooth-WiFi to hasten transfers
Filed under: Cellphones, Wireless
If you'll recall, the Bluetooth Special Interest Group already had plans laid out to speed up Bluetooth by teaming it up with UWB, but needless to say, that didn't exactly pan out. Thankfully, it seems the crew is trying something else in an effort to speed up BT transfers, and judging by the ubiquity of WiFi, we reckon this endeavor has a much better chance at gaining traction. According to Michael Foley, director of the Bluetooth SIG, these so-called Bluetooth-WiFi (just a temporary name

The Sony Ericsson Z770: "your life in a clamshell"
Filed under: CellphonesThis is a phone we've seen in the wild on a couple occasions, but we had one detail dead wrong: the model number. It turns out that Sony Ericsson's newest Z series flip is actually the Z770, not the Z660 we'd heard before. The company is billing the Z770 as a phone fit for people who need access to the internet (web and email, specifically) but aren't necessarily interesting in stepping up to a full-fledged smartphone, featuring "easy" email setup, zoom / pan features in the web browser along with an actual mouse pointer (anyone familiar with S60's brow

Apple applies for trademark protection on gaming devices

We're not gonna read too much into this just yet, but when everyone's favorite fruit-flavored consumer electronics company files to protect its trademark as it relates to a wide range of gaming devices, well, we feel you'd want to know. The Sony Ericsson W980
Filed under: CellphonesSony Ericsson has plumped up its Walkman line just a tad today with the introduction of the W980, a pretty well power-packed flip sporting 8GB of internal storage, a generously sized external display, and something the company calls "Walkman on Top." The technology (if you can really call it that) replicates the music player interface in its entirety on the external display, allowing full player control without popping the phone open. Other goodies include an FM transmitter and PlayNow support -- a Walkman phone through and through, if we do say so ourselves. Look for it to launch in Q3 in quadband EDGE flavor with HSDPA 2100 (read: no good for use in the US). Sorry about the microscopic photo, by the way, SE's site is having difficulty at the moment.

Sony Ericsson's G700 and G900: "touchscreen organizers"
Filed under: CellphonesIt looks like the rumors about the brand spanking new G series from Sony Ericsson were absolutely spot on. Mobile World Congress has seen the introduction of the G700 and G900, phones that SE is referring to as "touchscreen organizers with a broad appeal." The G700, the lesser of the two, features a 2.4 inch display (touchscreen, of course) with a 3.2 megapixel camera. The G900 ups the ante with integrated WiFi and a 5 megapixel autofocus cam with a continuous shooting mode. The big draw on both models appears to be the ability to jot notes on the display using the stylus and save them as sticky notes right to the phones' home screens -- kinda nifty, we'll admit. Both will launch in the second quarter featuring GSM 900 / 1800 / 1900 radios with UMTS 210

Starting on the bottom, the 3.2 megapixel C702 touts one-handed camera use for those spur-of-the-moment shots when you're doing something, like, totally extreme that would necessitate the use of a splash resistant phone to begin with. US justice department to the aid of the iTunes store
There has never been any doubt that while the iTunes Store is the largest provider of online music (legally), and therefore the accomplice of the majors (record labels), the online store is also their sworn enemy, who dares to tell them the value of their tracks and to refuse any compromise.
Regularly, and so far unsuccessfully, most of the majors have attempted to challenge Apple's hegemony, Sony launching its platform download connect, others by teaming up with partners .
They seem to have found a solution by teaming up with one another to create Total Music download site owned by the largest players, Universal, Sony BMG, EMI and Warner.
Together, this block is almost impossible to compete against and raises the risk of violating antitrust law. For this reason the American justice department ruffled the waters by sending a letter to the majors asking them to clarify their intentions. They will certainly be obliged to provide Apple and other ways to compete on equal terms by separating

There comes the time in every young person's life where they decide to graduate from the microwave to the stove. And fail miserably. Now instead of retreating dejectedly back to the kitchen microwave, where the rest of the appliances can point and make fun, you can hide your shame with the iWave Cube. The little microwave measures one cubic foot (about the size of a Kleenex box), and weighs just 12 pounds. Unfortunately, you'll still need to plug it in, so there's a limit to how far you can run. The iWave Cube comes in black, red or silver, and retails for $130.

A method to unlock the iPhone using bootloader 4.6?

A new method has been found. A little material is needed: a silvercard or Funcard programmable sim card. Once installed in the iPhone, the unlocking will happen with a program loaded on the sim card.
Good news: it must be possible to do the same using a reprogrammable Turbosim.
This solution is called JerrySim. Its name is derived from the cartoon Tom and Jerry using the allusion of Steve Jobs playing the cat (Tom) while the mouse (Jerry) represents those engaged in unlocking the iPhone.
