Apple strategy used to underscore US tax loopholes

Apple served as the example for a wider industry issue once more on Saturday through an investigation on Saturday. The iPhone maker was already known to be offshoring most of its income, but it's now known by the New York Times to have divisions across Europe, the British Virgin Islands, and elsewhere outside of the US to minimize how much it's taxed. Irish Prime Minister visits Apple's European headquarters

One week after Apple announced it would create another 500 jobs at its European headquarters in Cork, Ireland, the employees there got a visit from none other than Ireland's Prime Minister Enda Kenny. The visit happened yesterday, reports MacWorld UK, and during that time Kenny was snapped chatting with Apple employees, though it's not known exactly what he talked about. Justice Department clears Google of WiFi wiretapping violations

Two years ago, Google drove its way into a fair amount of hot water when it accidentally (as was claimed) scooped up private data over WiFi while collecting Street View and location data. Now, the Justice Department has cleared the prolific mapsters of the wiretapping violations. The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that Josh Gad is in talks to play Steve Wozniak in Jobs, the independent film staring Ashton Kutcher as Steve Jobs. Apple removes Android app searches from Chomp

Just over two months after Apple acquired the app discovery service Chomp, the company has removed features that allowed users to search for Android apps in addition to iOS apps. Chomp is a search tool that lets users to search for an app based on what it can do, instead of by the name alone. The service works using specific algorithms that sort through and compile what an app does based on its description, user reviews, and capabilities. Apple bought Chomp in February for US$50 million. Oracle providing direct Java support for OS X, updates to be more timely

Macworld reported late yesterday that Oracle has announced direct support of Java for OS X. This appears to be a reaction to the rather widespread outbreaks of malware that took advantage of exploits in Java before Apple was able to provide an update. iPhone, iPad are tops in enterprise activations

During Tuesday's earnings call, Apple CEO Tim Cook noted that 94 percent of the Fortune 500 are deploying or testing iOS devices. Now those numbers are being validated by news from enterprise mobility tool provider Good Technology. Google Cube: Labyrinth trifft Google Maps

Google hatte Cube, das Spiel mit dem man im Browser als Chrome Experiment die ominöse blaue Blase durch die Straßen von San Francisco (und andere Städte) bewegt, um an ein paar vorgegebenen Zielen anzukommen. Wir hatten uns da mehr versprochen, z.B. dass man sich die Routen selber aussuchen kann und auch mal gegeneinander über Google+ bowlen kann, aber scheinbar nehmen sie es nicht so ernst mit dem social casual Gaming. Obendrein sollte man es wirklich vor allem auf einem (Android) Tablet spielen, denn sonst geht das klassische Labyrinth-Gameplay der Wasserwagen-Steuerung verloren. LG gives away 2,000 specially modified phones for the blind

Skipping on the LTE, HD IPS screen or dual-processor is usually not a recipe that will land your phone on the pages of Engadget. But, these LG-LU2700Ss are not just any unspectacular flip phone. The handset has been specially modified for use by the blind and visually impaired. The manual is printed in braille and, rather than require the constant mashing of buttons, the phone is controlled primarily through voice commands. 2,000 of the devices were given away as part of the company's donation program. Oracle to bring Java SE7 to Mac users later this year

Apple has been discussing a possible deal to get Epix' on-demand movies on its media devices, a pair of tipsters clamed late Friday.
