Nokia's White Lumia 900 reportedly available now at AT&T stores
We'd previously heard AT&T's White Lumia 900 was slated for a release on April 22nd, but photos sent to Mobility Digest from readers -- much like yourself -- would suggest the Mango device is up for grabs now. Time Warner Cable iOS, Android apps add local sports
Time Warner Cable (TWC) has added a variety of local networks to its app available for the iPad, iPhone (App Store), Android 4.0 devices (Google Play), and TWCTV.com. Eleven channels have been added to most of New York City; Eight channels to the Dallas, Texas area; and nine to the Charlotte, North Carolina market.

Daily iPhone App: Sketch Nation Studio opens up game dev on the App Store
Sketch Nation Studio started out as Sketch Nation Shooter last year, a "game" on the App Store that actually let you make your own shooter game by using scanned-in pictures and a few scripted sets of rules. As creator Nitzan Wilnai told me at GDC earlier this year, he heard from a lot of users that they wanted to make games other than just shooters with the engine. And so he's now delivered Sketch Nation Studio, available as a free download on the App Store.

HTC One X available today on Rogers for $170 with a three-year contract
We know Yanks using AT&T's network will be getting their own flavor of the HTC One X early next month, thus it's only appropriate for the neighbors up north to get a taste of the same smartphone medicine. Google axes One Pass, Google Talk web app, BlackBerry Sync
Google on Friday detailed another round of sweeping consolidation that would drop even more of the servers it no longer considers vital. One Pass, its digital publication payment system, has been shuttered and its users transitioned to "other platforms." The implementation was intended to compete with Apple's own App Store publication rules and gave publishers as much as a 90 percent cut as well as access to subscriber details.

iBamboo is eco-friendly, natural speaker "dock" for iPhone
A new speaker dock called iBamboo will soon ship, and it's simply a length of bamboo wood with a hole cut out in the middle that can accommodate an iPhone 4 or 4S. The resonance of the wood amplifies the sound coming out of the iPhone's single speaker and there are no wires or power source needed. As such, there are no traditional technical specifications to speak of.

Sony PlayMemories Online to go live next week
Sony will bring its PlayMemories Online cloud storage service to PlayStation users next week, the company revealed on Friday. Unveiled at CES, the service will offer 5GB of online storage space to PlayStation Network members in six countries, including the US, Canada, Japan, Germany, France, and the UK. Users will have the ability to upload their photos taken by Sony cameras using PlayMemories Home software for Windows and OS X platforms as well as their smartphones.

Google+ expands SMS support to over 41 countries, lets you stay social over text

News: Apple reaches tax deal on Oregon data center
Apple has reached a deal with Prineville and Crook County, Oregon to move ahead with its new data center there. According to the Associated Press, Apple has agreed to pay local governments $150,000 a year and will get a 15-year property tax exemption for the new data center. Friday Favorite: PollEverywhere Mac Presenter grows up
When your job (or schoolwork) involves giving presentations to rooms full of more-or-less interested parties, you know how hard it can be to maintain a constructive level of audience attention. The economical cloud audience response system (ARS) provided by the mad scientists at PollEverywhere is a great way to spice up a session with quick, engaging multiple choice and full-text questions.
PollEverywhere's polls display wonderfully on the web (if you've got the Flash player) and do well in Windows versions of PowerPoint, where the appropriate ActiveX control to embed the remote Flash animation is available. For Mac presentation apps, however, the path is not so smooth.

LG Viper 4G LTE review
They said it wouldn't last. And they -- pundits, analysts, bloggers, GSM fanatics -- were right. WiMAX, that flavor of 4G found in the 2500MHz band, has proven to be more of a hindrance then help during Sprint's transition from underdog to reinvigorated titan. Apple also facing class actions over e-book prices in Canada
The US lawsuit over e-book pricing was quietly preceded by civil lawsuits in Canada. An interview with Quebec attorney Normand Painchaud confirmed to the Montreal Gazette that he had asked for class action status on a lawsuit against Apple and the same five major publishers targeted by the US government. Nissan adopts 15 EV chargers, is first on nappy duty (video)

SanDisk profits declining thanks to a 'glut' of flash memory on the market
SanDisk's Q1 results revealed that the company made only $114 million in profit, compared to $224 million in the same period last year. It's also reduced the outlook for the second quarter, saying that revenue will fall from $1.30 billion to $1.05 billion for the second three months of the year. It's pointing to a "glut" of flash memory in the market; due to consumers tightening their purse strings and too many chips being made. HTC slams hardware keyboards, ships One X in Canada
HTC has kept itself in the limelight in the past day with both revelations of a shift in its attitude towards touch as well as shipping its first LTE-equipped One X. Speaking at the company's Freqs event in Seattle, creative lead Claude Zellweger told MobileBurn and others in attendance that HTC was backing away from hardware keyboards. Partly echoing what the late Steve Jobs said in 2007, he saw physical keyboards as still having some interest but ultimately being obstacles. Sterne Agee, Canaccord raise estimates ahead of Apple Q2
Two more analysts have raised forecasts for Apple ahead of the company's Q2 results, due to be announced April 24th. Sterne Agee's Shaw Wu says that based on "supply chain checks," he's expecting "a sizeable EPS (earnings per share) beat based on iPhone and iPad strength despite Macs likely coming in a little light." The problem with Macs is said to be linked to a "drawdown in inventory on some models indicating there could be a pending product refresh," plus "minor" sales cannibalization from the iPad.

Motorola's patent enforcement against Apple could cost German taxpayers dearly
In a recent article, FOSS Patents points out a loophole in German law that forces taxpayers to pay for part of the court proceedings between Motorola and Apple. Motorola is currently enforcing an injunction against Apple and has deposited money for the injunction as required by law.
Apple is appealing this injunction, and the appeal is slowly winding its way through the German court system. When a settlement or judgment is finally reached in the lawsuit, Germany owes Motorola interest on the injunction money that was set aside. Disk Art visualizes hard drive space usage
When an email from the Clean Cut Code, the makers of Disk Art, showed up in our inbox yesterday, I jumped at the chance to take a peek. I'm a huge fan of Grand Perspective's space visualization software and am always happy to try out another app to see how it compares.
Disk Art, which is launching at US$0.99 (regular retail $4.99), aims to provide a "colorful and interactive map" of your drive, help you find "large unwanted files."
On the positive side, Disk Art is quite pretty to look at. Its drive/folder selection screen (following image) is especially eye-catching.

Court hears Apple appeal for Galaxy Tab 10.1N ban on June 5
A court in Dusseldorf, Germany issued a ruling Friday that it would hear Apple's appeal over a denied Galaxy Tab 10.1N ban on June 5. The procedure will start decisions on whether or not a judge was wrong in February to decide that the slightly modified Android tablet didn't infringe Apple's design rights. Padcaster iPad shooter frame debuts at NAB
The Padcaster, which we told you about in March, showed off this week in its public debut at the NAB show in Las Vegas. As expected, the rigid mounting frame for the iPad makes it easy to use Apple's tablet on a tripod or with other film accessories like lights, microphones or 35mm lenses. Report narrows down location of second Perth Apple Store
More details have been narrowed down regarding Apple's upcoming second Apple Store in Perth, Australia. PerthNow reports that the company is already starting to hire for a "South Perth" location. Apple is preparing to open another retail store in Perth, Australia, according to a PertNow report. A recent job advertisement for the store invited potential employees to "be part of an exciting team with one of the world's most admired retailers."
The positions are for a store in South Perth, and PerthNow believes the store will make its home in Booragoon's Garden City. There's no date for the grand opening, but sources suggest the store may open in the second half of the year.

Samsung S-Cloud rumored back on, more universal than iCloud
Samsung's once thought frozen parallel to iCloud, informally known as S-Cloud, could still be on tap for the Galaxy S III launch. Apple to hire over 500 new workers at Cork, Ireland offices
Apple is planning on expanding its presence in Cork, Ireland with over 500 more jobs, the Irish Times says. The growth will in fact require the construction of a new office block; the structure should be built sometime within the next 18 months. Apple to create 500 jobs in Cork, Ireland
Apple announced today that it will expand its headquarters in Cork, Ireland. "Apple has been in Cork for over 30 years and we are thrilled to be expanding our presence there," an Apple spokesman told the Irish Times. "Our plans will add over 500 new jobs to support our growing business across Europe."
The Cupertino Company is meeting with local officials, the IDA Ireland and the Minister for Jobs Richard Burton who says this expansion "is a huge boost for the country."
Apple's current plant in Cork was opened in 1980 and was the first non-US headquarters for the company. The Holyhill location now employs 2,800 people who work in backend, supply chain and distribution operations for Europe.

YouTube ordered to filter video uploads by German court, could face hefty fines
A Hamburg court decision has ruled that YouTube is responsible for what its users upload to the site. This therefore could make the site liable for any copyright infringement associated with that. Furthermore, the court has asked the video sharing giant to put filters in place that detect clips that are protected by the German royalties agency Gema at the point of upload. iPad online shipping times drop to one week
Apple's inventory of the new iPad is holding up well, especially in the US. Unlike the iPad 2 which faced shortages when it launched, the new iPad is readily available. Most US retail stores have at least one model of the iPad in stock and the online store is steadily improving shipment times. Die meisten iPhone- und iPad-Benutzer schreiben Großbuchstaben, indem sie die Umschalttaste drücken und anschließend den Buchstaben. Ein kleines bisschen bequemer geht es sogar mit einem Wisch.
So geht’s: Einfach den Finger auf die Hochstelltaste legen und auf den gewünschten Buchstaben ziehen. Dort den Finger vom Display nehmen. Schon ist der Buchstabe groß.

Malaysia's Maxis Bhd to offer iPad data plans
Malaysia's Maxis Bhd has announced that it will be offering the data plans for Apple's iPad, starting as soon as this week. The iPad will take advantage of the company's recent carrier upgrades (presumably, since we're talking about the iPad, it's a 3G network) and will "double the download and websurfing performance previously available," according to Maxis Bhd. Schiller responds to query, clarifies Instagram departure

Next iPhone may use Sharp, Toshiba in-cell touch technology
Apple's next iPhone might drop the traditional glass-on-glass approach to touchscreens if one rumor proves true. Part suppliers claimed to Digitimes that Sharp and Toshiba Mobile Display were "likely" producing in-cell touch panels now that yield rates were good enough for the two to participate. The two would start production of in-cell panels sometime during the spring, although it wasn't clear if that schedule would include Apple.

RIM patent application describes rotating keypad that can be used in more than one position

Microsoft official admits he misspoke regarding Windows Phone 8 updates
This is why companies have to be careful in their external communication: if a spokesperson reveals relevant details about an anticipated product, the news is going to be reported. Valve CEO: I did not meet with Apple CEO Tim Cook
Valve CEO Gabe Newell was asked directly about rumors that placed Tim Cook at the company's headquarters, presumably for a meeting with Newell, but he flatly denied the story and said he has never actually met Cook. Kaspersky Lab: Macs not invulnerable to malware
The writing is on the wall. Our time of innocence is gone. Researchers from Kapersky Labs claim Mac market share has finally reached the critical point, and the platform is now an attractive target for online criminals.

FCC begins tracking wireless carriers' implementation of bill shock notifications

HTC says users prefer thinness over battery life
HTC's Freqs event in Seattle on Thursday saw it reveal a handful of surprise details that also saw it weigh in on phone technology. Product strategy VP Bjorn Kilburn revealed that customers in a study, when pressed, preferred having a thinner phone over getting more battery life. Andy Ihnatko on the iPad as his main mobile computer
Andy Ihnatko wrote an article for Macworld UK in which he talks about living in a post-PC world with the iPad as his main computing device. He discusses how the iPad has changed from a content consumption to a content creation device, thanks to some bold developers willing to push the iPad to its limits.
His most salient point comes at the end when he questions the future of Apple and the 11-MacBook Air, which is almost the same size and does almost the same things as the iPad. Google engineer Tim Lindholm used testimony in Oracle's ongoing lawsuit over Java in Android to deny claims that form a cornerstone of the complaint. He denied that a potentially incriminating 2010 e-mail where he said "we need to negotiate a license for Java under the terms we need" was an acknowledgment that Google knew it had violated Oracle's copyrights and patents.
