Apple searching for global channel chief
Apple has apparently hired an executive from HP to handle its IT channel business in the UK, and the company is still searching for a global channel director, according to Channelnomics. Apple hired one Trevor Evans to run things in the UK, who joined the company after resigning from HP while on leave. And the company is reportedly looking under every rock it can to figure out who can run its global IT channel, making sure that all of its various retail outlets and groups have all the right connections they need. Acer will stop making cheap crap, but keep selling netbooks. Discuss.
Here's a bit of a head-scratcher: Acer has said it will stand by its man, which in this case is the netbook, but CEO J.T. Wang also recently told Dow Jones that his company will stop making "cheap and unprofitable products." So, which is it? Will the manufacturer keep churning out the low cost (and even lower specced) machines that it managed to sell 1.7 million of last quarter? Deezer announces ambitious global rollout, ignores US and Japan
Deezer added a few notches to its music streaming belt yesterday, with the announcement of its long awaited rollout to (nearly) every corner of the globe. News: HP to release WebOS as open source software
HP today announced that it will contribue its webOS software to the open source community. Amazon introduces $6 million Select program for exclusive Kindle authors
Yesterday, Amazon introduced Kindle Direct Publishing Select (KDP), featuring a multi-million dollar seed fund. KDP Select allows authors to earn royalties by lending out their books through Amazon's Prime Kindle Owners Lending Library.
Authors who choose to participate will share in a US$500,000 pool per calendar month, apportioned by the number of titles lent. To participate, they must pledge to make their titles exclusive to the Kindle Store for at least 90 days. In return, they have a monthly chance at a portion of that half-million dollar pot.

AMD updates A-Series APUs, gives laptop Llanos modest spec bumps

Renault debuts R-Link, an in-dash Android system with app market
Renault is taking app development to its lineup of vehicles with a new integrated system that's based on Android. HP to open-source webOS, own hardware still dead
HP at its all-hands meeting Friday said it was open-sourcing webOS. Both the Enyo app framework and the OS itself would be published under a license. The company expected to "continue to be active" in making and supporting webOS, but mobile hardware would have to come from others.

Doctors list why they love Apple products, and miss Steve
It's no secret that the iPad is a hit in the healthcare industry, but doctors love more than just the sleek tablet. A study earlier this year showed that a full 75 percent of US physicians owned some sort of Apple device. In a post Wednesday on MedPage Today, blogger Iltifat Husain tabulated the reasons that doctors love their Apple products, and why they mourn the passing of Steve Jobs.
Husain listed three main reasons: Simplicity, solid build quality and uniformity. In terms of simplicity, Husain mentions that so many medical devices and systems are functional, but poorly designed and often difficult to use. DOJ may stay or withdraw AT&T merger lawsuit
The Department of Justice will file a motion with a federal judge to postpone its anti-competition case against AT&T's proposed buyout of rival T-Mobile. The filing will be made next week, The Wall Street Journal reported. When HP abruptly announced it was discontinuing the TouchPad and ceasing work on any future devices running webOS, we took that to mean the underdog operating system had died a premature death. Nielsen: iPhone holiday buzz dominates Android by 3 to 1
The iPhone 4S is overwhelming talk of other smartphones as holiday picks, Nielsen tracked on Friday. The new iPhone has consistently been the most talked-about device in news and social, at about 40 percent between July and early December. When joined with other iPhone models, Apple had 66 percent of all the buzz, or three times as much as Google's 23 percent for Android.

Apple to appeal Motorola ruling, says holiday sales unfazed
Apple in a statement Friday said it would challenge Motorola's imposition of a German ban on certain iPhones and iPads. The iOS creator would appeal "right away" but also noted to AllThingsD that Motorola's restriction wouldn't have an effect until 2012. Dutch officials contemplate barring KPN, T-Mobile and Vodafone from spectrum auction
A spectrum auction looms on the horizon in the Netherlands, but three of the country's largest players may be excluded from participation. LitePoint tapped as testing LTE for iPhone 5
A Silicon Valley firm called LitePoint may be tasked with testing LTE for the iPhone 5, suggests Citigroup analyst Wenge Yang. For many New Yorkers, Grand Central Station is where you go to escape the island -- not to leisurely browse aisles of iPhone accessories, or pop in for a Genius Bar appointment. Zite is probably the most-used app on my iPad. I love the way it crawls hundreds of thousands of news sites for the stories I am going to find interesting. It's a bit like Pandora for news, and I can give any story a thumbs up or thumbs down while the app constantly tunes the news choices it brings to me.

Apple has once again dropped the cost of refurbished iPad 2s at its online store, checks show. A 16GB Wi-Fi model now costs only $419, $30 less than a recent figure, and $80 off the price of a new equivalent. 32 and 64GB Wi-Fi refurbs have been cut by $50 to $499 and $599, while 3G tablets are still $80 to $100 off their brand-new prices.

Shipping times ease for 2TB built-to-order iMacs
Shipping times for custom iMacs with 2TB hard drives are beginning to improve at Apple's online store, notes AppleInsider. The delay is now down to two to four weeks, having previously ballooned to between five and seven weeks. Microsoft may stop keynoting CES after 2012 to emulate Apple
Microsoft may take a page from Apple and step back from major trade shows, Microsoft-focused journalist Mary Jo Foley said in the latest episode of the Windows Weekly podcast. Near the end of the show, she told of a source who understood that Microsoft would dial back its presence at the annual January CES show after 2012. Motorola Mobility hat in einem Patentrechtsstreit gegen Apple Sales International in Irland (hier könnte das Schlupfloch liegen) die Oberhand und das Mannheimer Gericht untersagt nun Apple Sales International in Deutschland jegliche iPhones und iPads zu verkaufen. Wie Sie manuell im 32-Bit-Modus booten, haben wir bereits in diesem Artikel geklärt.
Wie Sie dies dauerhaft ändern, erfahren Sie in den nächsten Schritten.

Das Terminal unter /Dienstprogramme/ oder via Launchpad öffnen.

Motorola wins lawsuit, ban against Apple in Germany
Motorola won a more definitive verdict against Apple than its default judgment on Friday after a Mannheim court ruled that Apple had violated one of the 3G-related patents. The determination would ban any of Apple's 3G devices, including some iPad models and all iPhones predating the iPhone 4S. Apple might have the opportunity to either license the patent to avoid the ban or else design around it, although the last option is unlikely.

TomTom looks to shed ten-percent of workforce in restructuring effort
We have some sad news to report out of Holland today. TomTom has announced that it will release nearly ten-percent of its employees as the company works to reorganize and move away from the personal navigation device market. The struggling firm previously stated that it would trim €50 million from its annual operations budget, and many of TomTom's employees will now face the ramifications of this effort. Moving forward, the company will focus primarily on in-dash navigation equipment that's pre-installed by automotive manufacturers, along with fleet management for delivery companies. Acer, ASUS may shrink 2012 notebook lines to chase Apple
Original design manufacturer (ODM) contractors reportedly claimed Friday that Acer and ASUS would take a partial cue from Apple and simplify their product lines for 2012. The two would aim to trim costs and improve profit by having fewer but clearer models, Digitimes said. As an example, ASUS had over 10 Eee PC netbooks now, but it would have a "maximum" of five models in 2012 with clear high-end, middle, and low-end versions.

Nokia in Deutschland bei Smartphones immer noch vor Apple

Wer hätte das gedacht. In der neuen Nielsen Studie zum Markenverhalten in Deutschland findet man eine Statistik die zeigt, dass Nokia bei den Smartphones in Deutschland immer noch ganz vorne liegt. Apple ist allerdings schon auf den zweiten Platz vorgerückt und hat - wie eigentlich überall - Samsung und HTC im Nacken. Die anderen kommen nicht über die 10% Hürde. TSMC eröffnet zweites Werk für 20-Nanometer-Produktion

iTV:Mutiert der iMac zum Fernseher?
Zuletzt kursierten viele Gerüchte zum angeblich geplanten Apple Fernseher iTV, der Ende 2012 auf den Markt kommen soll. Doch schon zuvor will das IT-Unternehmen einen neuen iMac mit TV-Funktion anbieten.
Apples TV-Pläne werden immer heißer. Zumindest wenn man dem australischen Online-Portal „Smarthouse“ Glauben schenken mag, die in Erfahrung gebracht haben wollen, dass Apple drei iTV-Modelle plant, die mit einer Bildschirmdiagonalen von 32 bis 55 Zoll angeboten werden sollen. Taiwan's mobile operators see 'unprecedented' demand for iPhone 4S
Taiwan is ready to break sales records when it launches the iPhone 4S later this month. According to a Focus Taiwan report, iPhone 4S pre-orders have already reached an astounding 380,000 units. With eight more days left until the December 16 release date, this number will likely get larger.

Piper Jaffray: iTunes Match likely breaking even for Apple
Gene Munster of Piper Jaffray believes that for all of Apple's success with iTunes Match so far, the company is probably still only breaking even on the service. Sure, $24.99 a year from all of the service's users is a lot of money flowing in, but there's a lot going the other way as well, from server costs to music royalties and all of the other charges with running such a complicated service.

Eric Schmidts Interview bei Le Web hat zu einigen Kontroversen geführt, nicht selten aufgrund von Missverständnissen, aber eins sollte man sich merken. Schmidt prophezeit, dass in nur einem halben Jahr Android für Entwickler die erste Plattform wird, d.h. Apps werden spätestens dann bevorzugt auf Android zuerst erscheinen, nicht auf iOS. Ob Ice Cream Sandwich wirklich diesen Erfolg bringt, können wir nur abwarten, vor allem weil die Upgrades sich wohl durch das gesamte nächste halbe Jahr ziehen werden, ein wenig skeptisch bleiben wir also allemal. Lemur's multitouch music controller now available on iOS
Before the iPhone and the iPad made multitouch screens commonplace, there was the Lemur, a multitouch controller for synths, sequencers, and other electronic music instruments. The device has been used by musicians for quite a while, and it combines a touchscreen controller unit running a version of Linux with all sorts of musical electronic wizardry. Now, the Lemur interface has arrived on the iPad as an app, and it will connect via Wi-Fi to up to eight different computers to run any musical sequencers you happen to have around.

Vintage console RPG Chrono Trigger is now on iOS
In addition to all of the other great games that appeared on the App Store last night (Batman: Arkham City Lockdown is available, and the Skyrim Dragon Shout app is out as well), the long-awaited Chrono Trigger has also arrived, and as a game, I have to give it my highest recommendation.
This is one of the best Japanese RPGs ever made, if not the best, and it's a must-play if you haven't yet. The sprites and graphics are gorgeous, the characters are well-defined and the story is intriguing. The combat system does some really fun things that I haven't even seen re

Australia's Telstra working to fix iPhone 4S network dropouts
Australian telco Telstra is currently working with Apple to resolve bizarre coverage dropouts on the iPhone 4S, according to ZDNet. For a couple of months, iPhone 4S users on Telstra's network have reported that the iPhone will randomly lose signal and drop to "Searching" for about a minute before reacquiring the network.
According to Telstra, this is an "issue with iPhone 4S hardware incompatibility due to network upgrades," and the company is "working on fix with Apple currently through software updates." Apple denied Australian appeal, Galaxy Tab on sale next week
Apple on Friday Sydney time was denied its appeal on the Galaxy Tab ban reversal. Samsung will be cleared to sell the Galaxy Tab 10.1 in Australia late next week at prices of $579 AUD ($589) for a 16GB Wi-Fi version and $729 ($741) for a 3G edition. Proposed OPEN Act would avoid SOPA's censorship terms
A bipartisan bill (PDF) drafted by Democrat Senator Ron Wyden and Republican Congressman Darrell Issa could provide a potentially much less controversial alternative to the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA). The Online Protection and Enforcement of Digital Trade Act, or OPEN, would use the ITC to investigate claims that sites are primarily for pirates. It could then make a cease-and-desist order and only then bring in the Department of Justice for an injunction, such as cutting off ad revenue and those processing income.

Scribblenauts Remix has been updated with a new holiday-themed playground and support for 180-degree device rotation. As an iPhone 4S exclusive, the game also now advertises that it has full Siri dictation support, so you can use your voice to create virtually any object within the game.

A trio of rare Apple prototypes from its early years, never sold to the public, have made their way onto Ebay for auction. The first is a never-before-seen prototype box (now empty) for a proposed product in the mid-80s called the Apple "Multiserver." Study: Android, BlackBerry users still prefer iPad
Using a competing smartphone platform doesn't stop the largest parts of their supporters from preferring the iPad, Maritz concluded in a study on Thursday. While not wholly representative at 2,500 people, the study showed that 53 percent of BlackBerry smartphone owners preferred an iPad, while just 8.5 percent wanted a PlayBook. Even in Android, 41 percent still preferred an iPad, while the next two combined, the Galaxy Tab line (19 percent) and the Kindle Fire (15 percent) amounted to 34 percent.

Aperture updated to v3.2.2, adds iCloud, iOS 5 compatibility
Apple has quietly updated its pro-photography program Aperture to version 3.2.2, adding compatibility with iCloud and iOS 5 while also addressing a host of issues and bugs. In addition, the new version allows Microsoft Outlook to be used by Aperture for e-mailing photos, and allows new gestures to be used in conjunction with trackpads. The app now automatically remembers to open in Full Screen mode if it was exited in that state.
