Jobs: iTunes LP und Extra kommen für das Apple TV
Das Apple TV hat die Fähigkeit verloren, iTunes LP und iTunes Extra zu nutzen. Laut Steve Jobs ist es aber nur noch eine Frage der Zeit, bis die Funktionen auch auf dem neuen iOS-Gerät zur Verfügung stehen. In einer der gewohnt knappen "Konversationen" per E-Mail beantwortete Steve Jobs die Frage, was denn mit iTunes LP für Apple TV ist: "Coming". Mit iTunes LP und Extra will Apple Zusatzangebote zu Inhalten des iTunes Stores bieten.

Apple grabs nearly 50% of handset industry profits
For the better part of a decade, Apple has consistently shown that having a comparatively small market share by volume is no impediment to making money, and lots of it. Despite the company's PC share hovering in single digits through most of the 2000s, Apple has been far and away the most profitable computer hardware maker for many years (and generally coming second only to software-centric Microsoft in generating cash). Now that inverse relationship between share and profits continues into the mobile space.

Trend Micro has updated their Worry-Free Business Security package to v7, incorporating new email-checking features, device control for peripherals such as USB thumb drives, and a new integrated Mac client. LG enV Pro pictured, canceled for failure to 'impress' testers?
Yeah, kind of a good news / bad news type of situation here: the user's manual for the rumored Android-based LG enV Pro for Verizon has leaked, showing off the latest incarnation of the long-running QWERTY clamshell line in all its dual-screen glory. That's the good news. The bad news, though, is that Android and Me is reporting that it's apparently been pulled from the launch roadmap for failing to wow the folks testing it. At a glance, we can't say we'd blame them -- it certainly doesn't look like anything special, but then again, canceling a device at the last second is probably a small-scale contractual and financial nightmare for Verizon and LG alike

Internet Explorer leads early HTML5 compliance tests
The Worldwide Web Consortium (W3C) has published results from its first set of HTML5 compliance tests, which were topped by the latest Internet Explorer 9 beta. Microsoft's browser was found to adhere to a limited set of features more closely than Firefox 4 beta 6, Chrome 7, Opera 10.6, and Apple's Safari 5 browsers.

Jobs: iTunes Extras, LP coming back to Apple TV
Apple chief Steve Jobs in a brief e-mail said that iTunes Extras and iTunes LP would come to the redesigned Apple TV. The switch from Mac OS X roots to iOS had seen both of the features dropped, but the CEO sent a message from his iPhone reassuring a MacRumors fan that the two components were "coming." It's not known, though unlikely, that the update will ship in an Apple TV firmware update alongside iOS 4.2.

iPad to be sold in all 158 Best Buy Mobile stores
Starting on November 7th, all 158 Best Buy Mobile stores will begin to sell the iPad. Best Buy Mobile stores are smaller versions of the regular Best Buy stores; they focus on mobile electronics that can be found in shopping malls. In some cities they exist as standalone stores.
The advantage for Apple in selling the iPad in Best Buy Mobile stores is, of course, more iPad presence in front of potential customers. This also puts the iPad into shopping malls without an Apple Store during the upcoming holiday season.

Researchers tout progress with 'skin printers,' hope to one day treat battlefield wounds
We've already seen that living tissue can be printed using what amounts to a bio-inkjet printer, and some researchers from the Wake Forest Institute for Regenerative Medicine now say they've made some considerable progress that could bring the technology one step closer to use on the battlefield. Specifically, they've been able to speed up the healing of wounds on mice using a "printed" swath of tissue and completely heal the wound in three weeks, whereas an untreated wound did not heal itself in the same time period. Google settles Buzz privacy lawsuit, sets up privacy fund
Google today made public word that it had reached a settlement over accusations of privacy violations relating to Google Buzz. The search firm will cover the costs of the class action suit and has agreed to set aside $8.5 million for a privacy education fund to inform users about privacy risks online. Google denied any wrong in the case but agreed to better tell users about privacy in Buzz.

Tokyoflash Wasted watch offers a safe, legal high that's much more expensive (and much less effective) than street drugs
Just when a Tokyoflash watch has reached the pinnacle of unreadability, it looks like the company has scaled things back slightly -- very, very, very slightly. iOS 4.2 gold master offers design tweaks
As we told you yesterday, Apple released its iOS 4.2 GM to developers. Gold Master, or GM, status means development on the software is complete and usually also means users can expect to see it sooner rather than later. While the GM brings everything Apple promised it would, there were also a few surprise tweaks in it.

Sophos looses free Anti-Virus Home Edition for Mac
Sophos today released a free piece of Mac security software, Anti-Virus Home Edition. The utility is based on the company's business software, and said to be full-featured with the same threat detection, cleaning and quarantining. iPhone 4 finally reaches 24-hour US availability
The iPhone 4 today finally reached 24-hour availability at the online Apple Store in the US. The quicker ship dates came over four months after it first went on sale in the country and represent an unprecedented backlog for Apple, which in the past has usually cleared up the initial demand within several weeks. Boosted sales are likely to help Apple as it has already said that it's only limited by supply and has been ramping up production for much of the year.

Netbook demand plummets while shoppers snap up iPads
An October survey by market research firm ChangeWave spells doom for manufacturers of netbooks. While just a few holiday seasons ago the cheap little PCs were on everyone's Christmas list, now they're only attractive to 14% of people who are considering the purchase of a laptop computer. At their peak, almost a quarter of laptop customers wanted inexpensive netbooks.

Samsung Continuum turns up on Verizon's holiday site

Palm Pre 2 pre-orders will start November 8th, says HP

Outcome of iAd suit may have cost Apple millions
The settlement in a lawsuit over iAd may have cost Apple $1 million or more, a retracted press release suggests. Roughly a month after the announcement of iAd on April 8th, Apple was sued by Innovate Media, an online ad firm situated near Los Angeles. In a trademark dispute, Innovate claimed that it had used "iAd" since 2006, and won two trademarks for "iAds" in October 2008. The two parties settled outside of court in July of this year.

Base One Labs introduces ImpactBand, a beefier alternative to iPhone bumper
iPhone owners that want to leave its front and rear glass exposed while still offering a degree of protection now have an alternative to Apple's own bumper case thanks to the ImpactBand from Base One Labs. The ImpactBand actually appears to be significantly more robust than the Apple-branded bumper. Symbian gets last-minute save from $31m EU fund
Symbian today said it had received a major cash influx from the European Commission as part of a continent-wide project. The Artemis Joint Technology Initiative has given the mobile OS developer 22 million euros ($30.8 million) to develop the SYMBEOSE consortium, or Symbian -- the Embedded Operating System for Europe. Intel providing 22nm fabrication capacity to semiconductor start-up

Windows Phone 7 seeing supply shortages
The early days of Windows Phone 7 have been marked by international shortages, info from carriers revealed this weekend. Orange UK, but also other carriers, were told to only expect small quantities even from different brands like the HTC Mozart and Samsung Omnia 7. Marshall goes from amplifying music for the masses to private headphones, earphones
When people think of the name Marshall in the context of music, they often picture stacks of amplifiers that are meant to amplify the sound of guitars so that anywhere from dozens to hundreds of thousands of people can hear it. Now Marshall is going from spreading the music to keeping it private.
On November 15, Marshall will introduce its first set of headphones. So far they're in testing, but we do know that Marshall will offer at least two models, an over-the-ear set of cans dubbed Major and in-the-ear units called Minor. Full specs haven't been released but Major will apparently have a gold-plated 1/4-inch plug and urethane pads.

Amazon expands Disc+ program, over 10,000 titles now include immediate downloadable access
In a move curiously timed after this morning's Wal-Mart/VUDU news, Amazon has announced its Disc+ program is growing, up from around 300 titles last year to more than 10,000 DVDs and Blu-ray discs. If you not familiar, Disc+ means that when you buy the disc, not only is that shipped to you, but you also get a free downloadable copy to watch right away. Android-Kernel weist angeblich kritische Sicherheitslöcher auf
Der Sicherheitsdienstleister Coverity hat bei einer Analyse des Android-Kernels eines HTC Droid Incredible mit Android 2.1 (Eclair) nach eigenen Angaben gravierende Schwachstellen in Googles Mobilbetriebssystem entdeckt. 88 der insgesamt 359 Fehler stuft das Unternehmen in seinem Bericht als "hochriskant" ein. iPad nabs 95.5 percent of tablet market
It should come as a surprise to no ones that the Apple iPad completely dominates the tablet computer market right. After nearly a decade of availability, Windows-based tablets have never gained much traction except for a some vertical markets like healthcare. Meanwhile, Android-based tablets have gotten a lot of press in recent months but only a handful cheap, underpowered, off-brand units have actually made it to market. OS X 10.6.5 release expected this week
Sources internal to Apple have informed 9to5Mac that OS X 10.6.5 has been finalized and circulated within the company. 9to5Mac also notes that such pre-release updates "usually come in one to a few days prior to public launch."
10.6.5 is required for most AirPrint functionality in iOS 4.2. Since iOS 4.2 just reached GM status, it's likely a public release for OS X 10.6.5 will roughly coincide with the public release of iOS 4.2. Both OS releases are expected within the next week or so. We'll let you know a

What's better than an iPhone, or even an iPad for that matter? How about a table with full multi-touch capabilities that just requires a simple cable connection from your iPhone?

Mac mini prices drop outside the US
Reghardware is reporting that Apple has dropped the international price on Mac mini from £649 to £599 for the base model. In fact, Apple implemented a £50 price reduction across the board in the UK.
Those paying in Euros also benefit, as that same model (2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo) dropped from 809 € to 709 €. Additionally, the 2.66GHz Snow Leopard Server mini also dropped 150 € in price to 999 € (from 1149 €). Mini prices remained unchanged in Canada, the U.S. and and Australia.

Keepin' it real fake: iPod nano doesn't need a logo, thank you
To be honest, this took a little longer than expected. The above faux iPod nano is a pretty decent copy, lookswise, anyway. While we don't know it's name or full specifications, we do know that it comes in both 1.5 and 1.8-inch touchscreen varieties (presumably resistive). It appears to lack any physical buttons, although it does seem to have both an external speaker and an SD card reader. We don't know where you'll ever find one or how much it's likely to cost, but if you do track these down, we'll take on in that gray color, please.

Aska Electron promises to add data transfer to wireless power systems
Try to get past the mess of wires in the prototype above for a minute; you might just be looking at the future of wireless power -- at least if the folks at Aska Electron have their way, that is. They've developed a new system that not only wirelessly charges your gadgets (a la Powermat and others), but wirelessly transfers data at the same time at speeds up to 120Mbps. Chinese Apple sales could triple in two years, says analyst
Apple could potentially triple the revenue it takes in from China during the next two years, a new Morgan Stanley report suggests. Analysts Katy Huberty and Mathew Schneider argue that the company could reap over $9 billion from China in FY2012, as compared to $2.9 billion in FY2010. When it comes to vacuums it's obvious that we tend to like the ones that propel themselves -- your Roombas and your XV-11s and the like. But, when it comes to getting something properly clean sometimes you need to break out the manually modulated models, and those from Dyson tend to be the most coveted. Netbook demand still being crimped by iPads: study
Despite Microsoft's claims to the contrary, netbook interest is still at an all time low, ChangeWave said in a study on Tuesday. Just 14 percent of those planning to get a portable in the next 90 days wanted to get a netbook. While a slight bounce back from an all-time low in August, the figure is well below a peak of 24 percent interest in June 2009 and below the 18 percent from January, when the iPad was first announced.

Google suing US Department of the Interior for Google Apps snub
Google has filed a lawsuit in the US Court of Federal Claims against the US Department of the Interior for being what it claims as "unduly restrictive of competition." Apparently the DOI wrote up procurement requirements for a hosted email and collaboration solution (it's currently hobbling along with 13 different platforms for its 88,000 users) that specifically stated the software had to be part of the Microsoft Business Productivity Online Suite. iOS devices affecting Mac's web share worldwide
There's a new set of web share stats out in the US, and it appears that on a worldwide scale, the iPhone and other iOS devices are taking a bite out of normal computers' web browsing, but specifically more for Macs than Windows PCs. That's the conclusion in the new Net Applications report, which notes that iOS devices are now up to 1.25 percent of all web traffic, while the Mac has dropped below five percent for the first time in a while. Of course, these are only figures, not actual cause-and-effect, so any actual correlations are speculative. But it makes sense that people who previously used MacBooks to do their web browsing are slowly transferring some of that time over to iPads and iOS devices.

Dieses Segment könnte noch richtig steil gehen, schließlich sind die 3D-Standard-Brillen nicht wirklich stylisch und wenn es nach den Elektronik-Herstellern geht, sollen wir ja bald alle eine Menge Zeit mit 3D-Brillen auf der Nase verbringen: Da muss man sich doch modisch profilieren können! Und sei es über den Preis. Denn natürlich kostet einen 3D-Brille vom lifestyligen Designer soviel wie eine entsprechende Sonnenbrille, also 150 Euro aufwärts. iSlash is a nice puzzle-type title that reminds me of Fruit Ninja, but is probably the old arcade game Qix. You're presented with a shape on screen with a few samurai stars bouncing around inside it, and your task is to slash, with your finger, parts of the shape off, while keeping all of the stars inside a certain area. You've got to slash off up to a certain percentage of the shape to move through the levels, and while the first few are easy, the shapes get tougher later on. It's good fun.

We've heard of quite a few robberies at Apple Stores (and in its own twisted way, the idea makes sense -- despite the adage that 'crime doesn't pay,' laptops and iPhones are certainly easy to carry and very resellable), but this is probably the most brute force way we've seen it done. Nachdem Apple vor wenigen Wochen bereits das MacBook und das MacBook Pro im Preis gesenkt hatte, war nun auch der Mac mini (Affiliate-Link) an der Reihe. Das Einsteigermodell mit SuperDrive kostet neu CHF 849.-, bisher hatte es mit CHF 999.- zu Buche geschlagen. Der Preis des Mac mini mit Snow Leopard Server sank um 200 Franken von CHF 1’449.- auf neu CHF 1’249.-. Entwicklung von iOS 4.2 ist abgeschlossen
Seit heute Nacht können registrierte Entwickler den Gold-Master-Build von iOS 4.2 herunterladen, also jene Version, die Apple wohl in einigen Tagen für die Anwender freigeben wird. Damit dürfte iOS 4.2 wie geplant im November für das iPhone, das iPad und den iPod touch erscheinen. Insbesondere iPad-User kommen durch iOS 4.2 in den Genuss zahlreicher Neuerungen, unter anderem Multitasking sowie die Möglichkeit, Apps in Ordnern abzulegen. Aber auch iPhone-Besitzer dürfen sich über die eine oder andere Verbesserung freuen. Dank Air Print wird es künftig möglich sein, direkt über ein iOS-Gerät zu drucken. Und wer ein neues Apple TV sein Eigen nennt, kann dieses mithilfe von Air Play mit Inhalten vom iPhone, iPod oder iPad füttern. Bis zur Veröffentlichung von iOS 4.2 dürften voraussichtlich noch ein bis zwei Wochen ins Land ziehen. Apple fordert die Entwickler auf, die Zeit zu nutzen, um ihre Apps unter der neuen Systemversion ausführlich zu testen.

RTL bringt TV-Programm vollständig und live aufs iPhone
Bisher hatte RTL nur ausgewählte, hauseigene News- und Unterhaltungsformate, wie zum Beispiel "Das Supertalent" oder "RTL aktuell", live über die iPhone-App übertragen. Ab heute soll die "Live"-Funktion der im Sommer gestarteten App (kostenlos, iTunes-Link) rund um die Uhr das RTL-Programm zeigen. Dieser Schritt macht RTL zum Vorreiter. mehr

Apple has finally seeded the iOS 4.2 gold master to developers, indicating the public release should arrive in the near future. Build 8C134 arrives just weeks after the company released the third beta, which brought new SMS tones but removed AirPlay support from the YouTube app.

China offers Apple vast new growth potential
Morgan Stanley analyst Katy Huberty described China as an "unappreciated" potential growth driver for Apple, setting a $375 "base case" target for the company's stock and a "bull case" scenario where Apple shares could reach $500 by next fall.

Current T-Mobile customers getting in on myTouch 4G orders a little early
Orders have apparently gone live to existing customers for the myTouch 4G on T-Mobile -- a phone that officially becomes available this Wednesday, November 3rd -- proving once again that membership does indeed have its privileges. The phone's still showing as "Coming Soon" on the public T-Mobile site if you don't log in to your account, but that's not a new tactic; T-Mobile has offered its existing subscribers ordering perks on new devices for a long, long time, dating back at least to the original G1. Who's buying?

iOS 4.2 goes gold, available now to developers
The iPad's ticket to multitasking freedom -- better known as iOS 4.2 -- has moves past the beta phase and onto GM, which means retail units should be seeing it soon. Besides the iPad, Apple is also providing builds for the second, third, and fourth generations of the iPod touch, along with the iPhone 3G, 3GS, and 4 so if you've got a friend with an iPhone Developer Program subscription, now would be a great time to get cozy.

Doch kein „Nexus Two“ von Samsung
Der koreanische Handy-Hersteller Samsung hat Berichte, nach denen am 8. November das „Nexus Two“ in New York präsentiert wird, zurückgewiesen. Samsung betonte, dass es „nicht wahr sei“. Allerdings steht nach wie vor die Antwort auf die Frage aus, was die Koreaner vorstellen werden.

Mac Sale and MacBasket offer up Mac app bundles
The Mac App Store is set to change the way you download and use a lot of software on your Mac, but one thing I hope it doesn't change is the tradition of the Mac software bundle sale. Bundling up indie software and selling it for a relatively huge discount is something that, in my experience, tends to be Mac-specific. Despite the obvious benefits of a nice discount (as long as the software's developers are fairly compensated for their sales), it's also an excellent way to find new software that you might not have purchased separately. I know of a few apps that I would have never bought on my own, but now use every day after picking them up in a bundle sale.

Bejeweled 3 headed to Mac next month
PopCap, the well-known maker of casual games for Mac, PC and iOS devices, has announced the December 7th release of Bejeweled 3, the latest sequel to the popular match-3 game that features new interpretations of the Bejeweled theme, a quest involving 11 mini-games using other classic game mechanics, and four all-new secret games -- along with expanded re-workings of the four original game modes in Bejeweled 2.
