NVIDIA lists unannounced GTX 580 graphics card on its page, quickly puts it back in hiding

What's this, a bit of intrigue from NVIDIA? Netflix drops hints of streaming-only US going live soon

Man with bionic arms dies after car crash

Otto Bock's mind-controlled bionic arms let Austria's Christian Kandlbauer work, play and even drive, but it seems the latter passion may have lead to the 22-year-old's untimely demise. Two days after a road accident where the young man's specially-modified Subaru crashed into a tree, Kandlbauer was pronounced brain-dead and taken off life support late last week. Ballmer: our biggest gamble is the 'next version of Windows'

Microsoft chief Steve Ballmer during this week's Gartner Symposium raised curiosity by claiming that Windows 8 would be a major gamble for the company (video below). When asked by analyst John Pescatore what the next "riskiest product bet" would be, the executive answered simply that it would be the "next release of Windows." Nikon's Coolpix S80 sure seemed like a worthy successor to the S70 on paper, but Photography Blog's latest review sheds light on a couple of underlying issues that hinder it from being a runaway hit. The critics pretty much adored the sexy styling, but they noted that the all-touchscreen operations were a love-it-or-hate-it affair. FCC: spectrum could be worth $120 billion due to "iPad boom"

The FCC late Thursday put out a forecast (PDF) for the wireless future that pointed to spectrum auctions being much more expensive in the future. The US agency expected 3G and 4G data to surge 35 times higher in the next five years and need another 300MHz of spectrum that would cost $120 billion. The value is more than twice as much as what was paid for extra frequency access in 2008.

According to StrategyAnalytics, the iPhone has passed RIM (BlackBerry) as global smartphone shipments reached 77 million units in the 3rd quarter of 2010.
