300.000 iPads an nur einem Tag
Kein Wunder, dass Steve Jobs und Jonathan Ive am vergangenen Samstag selbst mal einen Abstecher zum nächsten Apple Store machten. Sowas sollte man sich nicht entgehen lassen. Nach Angaben der Apple Pressemeldung wurde das Tablet am ersten Tag satte 300.000 Mal verkauft. Zwar beinhaltet diese Zahl auch die Plankäufe, sprich Vorbestellungen und Lieferungen an Reseller, aber viel ist das trotz allem. Übrigens: Samstag war auch der Tag des App Stores: Unglaubliche 1.000.000 Apps und 250.000 Bücher wurden in den ersten Stunden geladen. Neue MacBook Pros doch im April?
Glaubt man der Taiwanesischen Taiwan Apple Daily, so könnten noch in diesem Monat neue MacBook Pros erscheinen. Eine ohnehin längst überfällige Aktualisierung würde der Quelle nach nur deswegen noch andauern, weil Lieferschwierigkeiten der Core-iX-Serie der Endfertigung zu schaffen machen. Netzfundstück: Das iPad und die rohe Gewalt
Kaum erscheint das iPad, reißen sich alle um ihr Exemplar. Während dieses Verhalten von Brancheninsidern noch als allzu nachvollziehbar angesehen wird, können weitaus weniger Menschen mit der Idee, neue Geräte möglichst schnell zu zerstören, recht wenig anfangen. Frei nach dem Motto "Was ihr nicht haben könnt, haben wir im Überfluss" reihen sich in den einschlägigen Webseiten Videos über Videos aneinander, deren stolze Urheber uns zeigen wollen, dass auch das iPad kaputt gehen kann. Schütteln wir in der Redaktion nur den Kopf über eine derart hohes Maß an Zerstörungswut, steigen die Klickzahlen der erwähnten Videos stetig. Apple's done a pretty good job convincing the old media that the iPad will save their industry, so we've taken our time trying out the launch titles in the App Store -- it's plain to see that different publishers have radically different ideas about how you're supposed to buy and consume their content, and everything from pricing to UI is currently up in the air. But while the apps we've seen so far are definitely intriguing, we haven't seen any silver bullets yet -- and to be perfectly honest, in several cases we wondered why an app was preferable to an iPad-optimized web site, or even (gasp) a paper subscription. Neue Apple-Notebooks im April?
Laut der US-Webseite Mac Rumors nennt eine taiwanesische Zeitung Details zu dem seit geraumer Zeit erwarteten Update von Apples Notebook-Linie. iPad users report problems with overheating, shutdown
Just days after the first run of iPads arrived to customers, a number of users have already experienced overheating problems, according to an AtlanticWire report. A Twitter post from a Texas resident claims the device switched into cool-down mode after an hour of use, effectively suspending the operating system until the internal temperature dropped down to acceptable levels.

Rumor 'confirms' Project Pink at Microsoft event
An alleged inside tip backs suspicions that Microsoft's April 12th special event will launch the first phones from Microsoft's Project Pink. Both the Pure and Turtle should show at the San Francisco media gathering and will be the expected touchscreen sliders. A contact for CNET said they would launch on Verizon first and ship "within the month" after the event.

Adobe posts Lightroom, Camera Raw, DNG Converter candidates
Release candidates have been made available for several upcoming Adobe patches, including Lightroom 2.7, Photoshop Camera Raw 5.7 and DNG Coverter 5.7. Lightroom is the company's professional photo workflow software. Camera Raw ensures the compatibility of different RAW types within Photoshop, while DNG Converter can translate those files into Adobe's Digital Negative format.

Android nearly triples US market share, iPhone stays flat
Android has almost tripled its share of the smartphone market in the US in just three months, comScore found today. Its share of the market jumped from 3.8 percent in November to 9 percent in February. The move likely helped keep Apple's iPhone in check as it stayed nearly flat at 25.4 percent.

Three versions of iPhone 4.0 code in testing?
Apple may at the moment be testing not one but three different versions of the iPhone 4.0 firmware, online usage statistics suggest. Developer PixelCUBE notes that when looking at figures from analytics firm Pinch Media, it caught sight of some unusual data showing v4.0, v4.0.1 and v4.1 devices. Although it may be possible that the firmware IDs are being spoofed, Apple is known to work on several iterations of a piece of software simultaneously.

Speaking of iPhone OS 4, check this out: PixelCUBE Studios, which currently holds the #1 spot on iTunes' list of free iPhone app downloads with The Impossible Test, noticed something rather curious in its usage stats. See, PixelCUBE uses Pinch Media to dredge up analytics, and a quick check of the OS versions its users are running (pictured left) shows that not one, not two, but three distinct flavors of OS 4 have turned up: 4.0, 4.0.1, and 4.1. HP slate teaser shows support for iTunes

Diese Woche: Vorschau auf iPhone OS 4.0
Apple hat ein Special Event zum kommenden iPhone OS 4.0 anberaumt. Geladene US-Journalisten dürfen am Donnerstag ab 19 Uhr unserer Zeit einen ersten Blick auf die mit dem nächsten großen Versionssprung verbundenen neuen Funktionen werfen.
Eine vergleichbare Veranstaltung gab es auch Mitte März vergangenen Jahres, Apple nutzt diese Vorschau unter anderem dazu, erste Beta-Versionen für Software-Entwickler einzuführen um diesen ausreichend Zeit für Neuentwicklungen und Verbesserungen zu geben. Mit dem offiziellen Erscheinen der neuen Systemsoftware für den iPod touch, das iPhone und das iPad rechnen wir dann im Juni oder Juli.

Kobo has released eBooks by Kobo HD, an early e-book reader for the iPad. The app is claimed to be the first third-party reader to compete directly with Apple's iBooks. Firmware Updates für AirPort Extreme und Time Capsule
Nach einer Woche voller größerer Updates schiebt Apple noch einige Kleinere nach: Für die AirPorts steht das Basisstation-Update 2010-001 bereit, welches "allgemeine Fehlerbehebungen, u. a. für folgende Probleme" mitbringt: "Beim Importieren einer Konfiguration werden nicht alle Einstellungen importiert. Beim Erweitern von Netzwerken werden MAC-Adresszugriffslisten nicht weitergegeben." Zudem schließt das Update eine Sicherheitslücke. Sobald aktualisiert, wird für die aktuellen Time Capsules und für die AirPort Extreme Stationen noch ein Firmware-Update auf Version 7.5.1 angeboten. Dieses behebt vor allem Probleme beim Senden und Empfangen in 5 GHz-Frequenzbereichen.

Das iPad ist da: Flut an Unboxings und Reviews
Nicht, dass wir nicht auch ein Review geplant hätten, aber zum inoffiziellen Launch des iPads wird das Internet von einer Welle der Begeisterung für das neue Lifestyle-Produkt förmlich überschwemmt. Zwei der ersten Videos führen uns das Gerät in etwas privaterer Atmosphäre vor, als die Videos der Keynote, wo nur unter den Augen der Mitarbeiter Hand angelegt werden durfte. Am Samstag dürfen dann auch normalsterbliche Amerikaner auf das iPad hoffen, da UPS angekündigt hat, ausnahmsweise auch am Wochenende zu liefern. iTunes bekommt Mac App Store [Update]
Schon in der Vergangenheit tauchten in den Tiefen von Apples Programmen Hinweise auf zukünftige Funktionen auf. Ein solcher Hinweis findet sich auch in dem neuen iTunes 9.1. Öffnet man das iTunes-Paket und durchforstet die einzelnen Ressourcen findet man Dateien, die den Vertrieb von Mac OS X Programmen über iTunes erahnen lassen.
Doch die Hinweise sind nicht nur kleine Hinweise, konkret findet man, sieht man nur genau genug hin, Hinweise dass der Vertrieb von signierten Programmen schon in Kürze in iTunes einfließen könnte. Apple möchte damit die Sicherheit des Macs weiter erhöhen.
Der Erlös des Verkaufs der Programme soll dabei, wie bei dem iPhone und iPod touch, im Verhältnis 70/30 zwischen Entwickler und Apple aufgeteilt werden.

Dank FCC: Das iPad von innen
Wie immer bei einem neuen Apple Gerät tauchen früher oder später Fotos vom Innenleben auf. Während sich am heutigen Tag die ersten Kunden über das iPad freuen dürfen und so mancher den Abend wohl mit jenem Gerät in der Hand verbringen wird, tauchten bislang unter Verschluss gehaltene Fotos des iPads von innen auf, die bei der FCC entstanden sind. Bei der Hardware handelt es sich zum Beispiel um Speicher von Toshiba, bei der WLAN-Antenne um die bekannte iPod touch 3.Gen-Lösung und der Akku ist eine Lithium-Polymer-Batterie mit 3,75V und 24,8 Wattstunden. iPhone SDK 3.2 final verfügbar
Nicht nur für zahlende iPhone-Entwickler, auch für jeden anderen ist seit heute das iPhone SDK 3.2 verfügbar. Die Software durchlief vor dem Release 5 Betastufen und einen goldenen Master. Das Paket enthält neben iPhone- und iPad Simulator, Beispielcode auch die neue Version 3.2.2 der Entwicklungsumgebung Xcode. Zune HD v4.5 firmware now available
It seems a handful in the Twitterverse have already discovered, but in case you're among those not in the know, so to speak, Microsoft has rolled out firmware 4.5 for the Zune HD. To recap, that includes Smart DJ mix, personalized recommendations, Marketplace support for TV, and expanded video codec support, a number of those features you can see in our hands-on piece (video embedded after the break). Taiwan paper says new MacBooks due this month
Taiwan newspaper Apple Daily today claimed that new MacBook, MacBook Air and MacBook Pro models are due to ship this month. Unnamed sources said the systems would use the mobile Core i3, i5 and i7 processors and that the 13- and 15-inch models would all get eight-hour battery life, up an hour from today. They would also get 640GB drive options with a 256GB SSD as an alternate.

EMG tacks iPad onto infringement claims against Apple
EMG Technology is adding the iPad to a list of Apple products and services it accuses of infringing on patents, according to a statement. The company is already targeting Apple in a lawsuit over the iPhone, iPod touch, Apple TV and iTunes Store. Together the products are said to violate a series of ideas relating to Internet navigation, as well as IPTV. EMG claims in fact that the iPad is a "personal TV," in addition to being a media player and e-book reader.

Microsoft teases for likely Project Pink event April 12
Microsoft signaled its possible readiness to unveil its first self-branded phones on Monday with a teaser for an event in San Francisco. The notice obtained by Engadget doesn't mention more than that "it's time to share" but uses the same typography as seen on the Pure and likely the Turtle, hinting that the phones under the mystery Project Pink banner are almost ready to be revealed. Prior leaks have had both phones shipping April 20th for Verizon, which would line up with an introduction the week before.

News: iPad twice as fast as iPhone 3GS, say benchmarks
According to benchmarks performed on the iPad by Iconfactory developer Craig Hockenberry, the device is roughly twice as fast as the iPhone 3GS when running native applications. Völlig überraschend besuchte kein geringerer als Steve Jobs himself einen Apple Store in Palo Alto (gelegen im Santa Clara Valley, Kalifornien) während des Launches von Apples neuesten Gadgets, dem iPad!

Hitachi vows 10-year lithium-ion batteries
Hitachi today said it had developed a technology to double the useful lifetime of a lithium-ion battery. The approach extends the life of the manganese cathodes inside a cell and should result in batteries that can last for 10 years before they need to be replaced. It simultaneously uses less cobalt than usual batteries and could be less expensive as a result.

Jailbreak wahrscheinlich möglich

They also tell us that it's "time to share," and apparently intend that sharing to go on between young, attractive Urban Outfitters models (according to the images on the notice). Okay. iDisplay: App macht iPad zum Zweitbildschirm

We love the idea of Android apps running on iPhone and vice versa, and that's exactly what Adobe's selling with its multiplatform development solution AIR -- but though we've seen a demo here and there, conversations we've had with the company led us to believe that AIR was not yet up to the task. Apple A4 chip up to 60% faster than Snapdragon
The A4 processor in the iPad is far faster than the Qualcomm Snapdragon processor running the Nexus One, according to early benchmarks. Although both run at 1GHz, Apple's chip is usually at least 9 percent faster loading most websites; it's up to 60 percent faster with very visually intensive websites. The AnandTech tests noted some unusual spikes, but even discarding these is an average of 10 percent faster.

300.000 iPads verkauft - 1 Million Apps und 250.000 iBooks heruntergeladen
Wie Apple soeben in einer offiziellen Pressemitteilung berichtet, konnten am Samstag über 300.000 iPads in den USA verkauft werden. Das übertrifft die Erwartungen der meisten Analysten und dürfte der Apple Aktie in den nächsten Wochen einen ordentlichen Aufwärtstrend bescheren.
Doch nicht nur die physikalischen Verkaufszahlen des iPads sind sehr gut, auch über die Downloadzahlen von Apps und iBooks werden sich Apple und natürlich die Entwickler selbst freuen dürfen. Währens des ersten Verkaufstages wurden nämlich über eine Million Apps auf die verkauften iPads geladen und weit über 250.000 iBooks verkauft.

Apple Patent: MacBook mit eingebautem Picoprojektor

Man sollte natürlich die Hoffnung aufgeben, dass jedes Patent, das hier auftaucht auch sofort in ein Produkt umgesetzt wird. Große Firmen wie Apple bunkern natürlich Ideen und somit Patente wie andere Leute Pfandflaschen. Irgendwann könnte der Fall ja eintreten, dass so was mal gebraucht wird. Dieses Patent klingt jedoch relativ schlüssig und zeigt ein MacBook mit eingebautem Picoprojektor. Mini-Beamer sind ja keine Rocket Science mehr und da schon erste Handys damit ausgestattet sind, sollte die Implementierung in Laptops nicht allzu schwer umzusetzen sein. Jetzt kann man sich die Lieblingsserie im Bett an die Decke strahlen. Aber wie gesagt, alles nur ein Patent auf dem Papier.

Over 300,000 iPads were sold in the US by the end of Saturday, says Apple. T-Mobile giving iPhone users $350 to defect to HD2
A leaked memo shows that T-Mobile is hoping to lure iPhone users away with large incentives to switch to the HTC HD2. BDXL format will allow 128GB Blu-ray discs
The Blu-ray Disc Association on the weekend unveiled new versions of its optical disc storage to push the capacity past its 50GB limits. BDXL adds the option of third or fourth layers and can permit as much as 128GB of storage on a burnable disc; the extra capacity would be intended for video pros and others who need large amounts of removable storage. Erste Fortschritte in Sachen iPad-Jailbreak

Vielleicht wird es ja was mit dem 22. Juni als Release-Datum

Solar Pebble lamp doubles as a gadget charger, world changer
It might not change the world, but it won't be for lack of trying. Plus Minus Solar has designed what it's calling the LED Solar Pebble, a multifaceted device that requires just a pinch of sunlight (or maybe gobs of it, actually) in order to generate artificial light. And charge your arsenal of gizmos. It's engineered to be built at a low cost and used in developing nations, but unfortunately there's no confirmation on what exactly it'd charge. 'Course, it's just a concept as of now, so we're guessing a micro-USB and mini-USB socket could be tossed on by whatever manufacturer would be kind enough to get this to a production line. We're still holding out for the faraway 1080p pico projector, but for those who need a display in their pocket before 2023, Optoma's latest aren't half bad options. The PK201 and PK301, both of which made their debut at CES earlier in the year, now have product pages at Amazon, with the former being listed as in stock ($299.99) and shipping this very moment. iPad apps: games that stand out
Now that we've had a couple days with the iPad, some apps are rising to the top and monopolizing our lounging time. We'll have some more roundups for you in just a little bit, but we thought we'd start off with one of the iPad's most natural talents: gaming. The large screen and hardy processor offer a wild in-between space, much more immersive and "stunning" than a PSP, DS, or iPhone game, but hardly on par with modern laptop or desktop graphics. We haven't leapfrogged any platforms here, it's just an evolution, but it's a pretty fun evolution, complete with multitouch gestures, accelerometer tilts, and cheesy soundtracks pumped out over the iPads surprisingly loud speaker.
