Intel does not let go of the SSD market
Intel has already made and sold SSD disks; it was at the very beginning of this technology and always with products of low capacity destined for the professional market.
At the Intel Developers forum which is being held now, they have announced that they will continue to release products on this market, and propose SSD with a capacity between 32 and 160 GB. These products are reinforced and capable to withstand a shock of 1500G.
Intel foresees these just for the professional market and does not even communicate the price of these disks.

Apple IS biggest US music retailer
Apple has confirmed the latest batch of reports claiming it to be the number one music retailer in the US.
Many news sources had questioned the NPD MusicWatch figures, pointing out that Apple had claimed to be the number two US retailer after the period covered by the latest research, which was January.
In fact, Apple claims, these new January figures are the latest available from the music retail sales researchers at NPD, and do indeed confirm Apple's top slot in US music retail.
Apple released a press release to this effect at around 3pm, Eastern time.

Census Bureau goes forward with plans to ditch PDAs

An Apple Store in Switzerland for real!

Just a little note to tell you that there will be not one but two Apple Stores in Switzerland by this Autumn and this is before France; one will be in Geneva and the other in Zurich.

Photoshop CS4 only 64-bit for Windows
On his blog, John Nack of Adobe comments on the 64-bit compatibility of Lightroom and speaks of the upcoming CS4. His words will certainly cause a big controversy. It states that the next version of this software will be compatible with 64-bit machines, but only under Windows.
To justify this difference in treatment, he explained that the CS suite is still developed in Carbon, and that Apple had, suddenly, decided at the last WWDC not to develop 64-bit version of these libraries.
Adobe will therefore need a great deal of work to rewrite Photoshop under Cocoa and subsequently offer 64-bit compatibility of its software, which they will include with CS5.
To add salt to the wound, Nack indicates that a 64-bit version provides a performance gain of between 8 and 12%, but much more under certain conditions. Indeed, the 64-bit addressing allows software mainly to exceed the threshold of 4 GB

Griffin boosts the reception of the iPhone

As well as protecting the iPhone, it is fitted with a booster antenna that increases the sensitivity of the device and allows the telephone to operate in conditions of limited reception.
To prove their point, they have posted a video showing the signal strength received using this case. However they point out that an improvement in reception does not always show up as an increase in bars on the reception meter.
One will have to do real life tests to judge the real gain in reception.

Researcher raises alarm about biometric hacking with "biologger" tool

Urteil: Regulierung der Terminierungsentgelte ist rechtens
Das Bundesverwaltungsgericht in Leipzig hat eine Klage der Mobilfunkbetreiber T-Mobile, Vodafone, E-Plus und O2 gegen die Regulierung der Terminierungsentgelte durch die Bundesnetzagentur zurückgewiesen. Dem Urteil der Leipziger Richter zufolge darf die Bundenetzagentur den Mobilfunkanbietern Preisvorgaben für die Weiterleitung von Handy-Gesprächen in fremde Netze machen. Die Provider müssten sich die geplanten Gebühren im Voraus genehmigen lassen.

Microsoft gewinnt Prozess gegen deutschen Spammer
Microsoft hat einen Gerichtsprozess in letzter Instanz gegen einen Spam-Versender gewonnen, der unter Verwendung gefälschter Hotmail-Accounts unerwünschte Werbung für pornografische Webseiten verschickt hatte. An iPhone was an essential witness in the apprehension of the man responsible for a grisly murder, with location information tracked using cellphone towers leading police to the killer.
Attorney Melissa Lewis was strangled inside her garage. At first, police in South Florida thought it was a random attack, but later determined that the victim's iPhone was missing. Working with AT&T, they tracked data relayed from the missing phone to cellphone towers in the area - and that data led them to the killer, Tony Villegas.
Villegas was the estranged husband of the victim's best friend, Debra Villegas. The couple separated because the husband was jealous of the success of his wife and had threatened her with violence, leading to the split. The victim had been helping Debra draft a will designed to protect her children in the event her estranged husband committed an act of violence against her.

iMac stocks across Apple's reseller chains are running down, suggesting the company is closing in on a refresh for its range of all-in-one desktops.
If whispers emerging from Apple partners are to be believed, the product upgrade may not be immediate - stocks of the product still exist, but supplies of the product are wearing thin. This suggests the product may see an update as soon as this month.
Apple has been expected to improve its iMac offering since the beginning of March, when the first claims emerged to say it intend popping Intel's new 45-nanometer Penryn processor inside the machines. The Mac mini is expected to receive a similar treatment, with the addition of an improved graphics chip and Penryn processor.

MIT's Nexi bot wants to be your friend

MIT is really taking its robotics program to a whole new level with its "MDS" platform, which stands for Mobile, Dexterous and Social. The flagship bot so far is Nexi, who certainly fits the bill, albeit with an extra dab of creepy. The Geforce 9800 GTX fails to amuse
NVidia has launched its new high-end card, the GeForce 9800 GTX.
The first tests carried out on the products showed that it only meets the lower bounds of performance that could have been hoped for.
Indeed, the 9800 GTX reflects the basic architecture of the 8800 GTS and merely uses a slightly higher frequency without changing the width of the memory bus or additional memory.
But NVidia is dominant ahead of AMD/ATI and does not really need to innovate to stay well ahead.
Good news for us, as long as these cards have a 128 KB EEPROM, it should be possible to make them work on our mac in the same way we modified the ROM of the 8800 GT.

Source: PC Inpact The fee for private copying for Walkmans/ mp3 phones has been published in the official gazette and will be applicable from the first of May.
It will ultimately be somewhat lower than anticipated because the distinction was made between devices that can play videos and those which serve purely as an audio player.

The team (and especially Wizdaz) have been working hard to bring you this release in as short a time as possible.
The plan (4 weeks ago) was to release a Mac tool only. This was decided because of the lack of reliable Mac filesystem tools on Windows, and the fact that the task of porting them would be too time consuming.
With that in mind the genius that is “cmw” stepped up to the plate and offered his services to the DevTeam. He proposed to provide a tool that would give the same functionality and User Interface as the Mac tool.

Right from the horses mouth:
The “DevTeam” would like to announce the release of the OS X version of the PwnageTool application.
The team (and especially Wizdaz) have been working hard to bring you this release in as short a time as possible.
The plan (4 weeks ago) was to release a Mac tool only. This was decided because of the lack of reliable Mac filesystem tools on Windows, and the fact that the task of porting them would be too time consuming.
With that in mind the genius that is “cmw” stepped up to the plate and offered his services to the DevTeam. He proposed to provide a tool that would give the same functionality and User Interface as the Mac tool.

AT&T Mobility president and CEO Ralph de la Vega let slip the plan in talks this week at the CTIO Wireless conference.
De la Vega said that the much-anticipated 3G iPhone will become available in the next few months. "AT&T's entire line of smartphones will be available in 3G models within that time frame," he said, as summarised by IDG News Service.
That a 3G iPhone is on the cards is moving rapidly away from rumour into a speculation of when the product will be announced, with analysts speculating a May/June release for the product, which chimes in well with the AT&T executives suggestion.
The AT&T chief also confirmed Apple's US network partner will offer mobiles based on Google's Android platform, the report explains.

Source : Dailytech Definitely, Intel is doing everything to remain in the limelight with its new ATOM processors. They have gone further with the variations in this range and announce 5 new products that are even smaller. The ATOM in the series Z measure 13x14 mm.
They run with a frequency between 800 MHz and 1.85 GHz and have a consumption between 0.65 and 2.4 W.
They are destined for the market that Intel calls mobile internet, comprising of telephones, mp3 players, GPS
The chipsets that accompany these processors have the functions needed for this use:
- 3D video capacity
- Audio HD
- Video 720 and 1080i
They can also support wifi, WiMax, the EV-DO and the 3G+ (HSDPA)
This is largely what is needed for a new generation of iPhone; Mac OS X Light running in an iPhone would be powerful with this type of processor architecture.

Bei Apple liegt ein Update auf iTunes 7.6.2 bereit, die neue Version enthält laut Beipackzettel Fehlerbehebungen zur Optimierung der Stabilität und Leistung. Den kostenlosen Download gibt es hier bei Apple oder über die automatische Softwareaktualisierung.
Ebenfalls neu erhältlich ist QuickTime in Version 7.4.5. mit "Fehlerbehebungen, die die Zuverlässigkeit des Programms sowie die Kompatibilität mit Drittanbieter-Programmen verbessern und Sicherheitsprobleme beheben". iTunes weist nach der Aktualisierung auf 7.6.2 darauf hin, dass für die Wiedergabe von im iTunes Store gekauften oder ausgeliehenen Videos die neue QuickTime-Version nötig ist.
Für Mac-Besitzer gibt es über die Softwareaktualisierung noch ein kleines Front Row-Update. Auch in Apples Media Center-Programm werden kleine Fehler behoben, zudem soll mit der neuen Version 2.1.3 die Kompatibilität mit iTunes

RIM posts $6 billion profit for fiscal 2008
