LED displays keep folks guessing at nightclub bathrooms

Interactive nightclubs aren't entirely unheard of, but we'll be sure to relieve ourselves just before prancing into any party scene with these displays on the lavatory doors. The small LED Matrix displays can be mounted on both male and female doors, and the image shown can be switched as folks enter and leave. Needless to say, such a setup caused quite a bit of hilariousness / confusion when caught on candid camera, so be sure and take a peek for yourself after the break.[Via Halfmachine]

Elonex One: England's 100 quid laptop

T-Mobile Hotspots: Google Maps und mehr kostenlos
Das fscklog berichtet von einer interessanten Eigenschaft der deutschen T-Mobile Hotspots: Mit einem iPod touch oder iPhone kann man offensichtlich auch ohne Anmeldung am Hotspot auf verschiedene Dienste wie zum Beispiel Googles "Karten", "Wetter" und "Aktien" zugreifen.
Ob Fehlverhalten oder Feature bleibt vorerst unklar, auf jeden Fall ein nettes Gimmick für alle Besitzer eines iPod touch oder eines iPhone ohne T-Mobile-Vertrag und damit ohne die zugehörige Hotspot-Flatrate.
Wer seine Mails bearbeiten oder ein wenig surfen will, kommt jedoch um die Anmeldung am HotSpot nicht herum. In diesem Zusammenhang ist vielleicht die H@ppy Hour eine Erwähnung wert. Nach einmaliger Anmeldung erhält man im Rahmen dieser Aktion pro Tag eine Stunde kostenlosen Internetzugang über die T-Mobile-Hotspots in den McCafé-Filialen.

Debunk: Revenge of Stuff's Sony Ericsson PSPhone mockup

We weren't blown away when a couple of days ago a rumor started to take hold that a "PSP-style phone" was in the works, and these magazine scans aren't helping anything. Tiny Code Revealing 1.1.4 firmware/SDK info
Tinycode, makers of applications and stability patches for the iPhone is displaying some pretty heady info on their webpage. Until recently, their fixes have been available via the Installer application.
[UPDATE:Tiny Code no longer produces fixes or applications for firmware 1.1.3.We can't say much, but we are working with Apple and with their SDK for the next firmware release and SDK applications and we shouldn't be missed for long. We will no longer update our Installer.app repo for legality reasons and you should see us soon on iTunes.
This isn't Exchange support or EA games but it is the first we've heard of an organization working with the SDK, if they are being truthful. Also their assertion that Applications will be distributed through iTunes

China Mobile is reporting that they have 400,000 iPhones on their network. NOW!
If true, it means that China has almost, if not more, iPhones as Europe - though Europe (present company included) probably has a huge amount of unlocked iPhones as well. Frankly, we don't think unlocking is a problem as there is no alternative way to purchase in China.
However, if the market is already saturated when Apple goes into China this year, it might hurt sales. Our opinion, as always is that Apple needs to go away from the model of limiting the carrier choice and letting as many people as possible use these iPhones.

400 000 unlocked iPhones in China
Source : AlleyinsiderFor the first time a telephone operator, China Mobile, revealed the number of iPhones connected to its network. The figure is impressive: 400 000 at the end of 2007, and certainly exceeds any numbers one might have guessed at.
At present, some pessimistic analysis estimates there to be 1,5 million unlocked iPhones on a total of about 3.7 units sold. This is an enormous rebuff to the economic model decided upon by Apple. It has created a significant parallel market whose intermediaries are making very considerable profit margin (for the first time in years with Apple products).

Toshiba is at the point of renouncing DD-DVD?
Source : PC Inpact The Hollywood Reporter has learned from various sources that Toshiba is on the point of giving up in the war HD-DVD vs Blu-ray. They will probably wait until the stocks of HD-DVD readers have been depleted, especially in the US. These units being sold off, even though they have no future with the HD-DVD format, are nonetheless very good DVD readers (as emphasized by Toshiba). A consolation for those who buy them without knowledge of the issue of the battle.
This news has been given credence since Wal Mart officially announced the abandonment, pre and simple, of HD-DVD from the month of June.

University of Michigan creates most intense laser in the universe

Rest assured, we've seen some wicked frickin' lasers in our day, but apparently, even the two-kilowatt rendition that heats coffee in mere seconds can't hold a candle ray of light to HERCULES. Quickorder app would keep iPod touch owners hooked on Starbucks
