Sicherheitsupdate bei Quicktime
Das soeben veröffentlichte Quicktime-Update auf Version 7.4.1 dürfte eine Pflicht-Download für alle Mac und Windows-User sein. Apples Video-Komponente - unter anderem für die iTunes-interne Konvertierung der iPod-Videos zuständig - behebt, laut Update-Beschreibung, einige Sicherheitslücken und verbessert die Kompatibilität mit Drittanbieter-Programmen.
Auf dem Mac über die Software-Aktualisierung erhältlich, gibt es für Windows auch einen HTTP-basierten Alternativ-Download.

MacBook Air with SSD tested: performance boost nowhere to be found

Xbox 360 HD DVD player now officially $129.99

Wer im Fernsehen einen Musiksender einschaltet, wird sofort von einer Welle aus Klingelton-Werbung überschwemmt. Apple France Attacks an iPod Clone Distributor and Wins
Source : http://gazettedunet.comOver the last few months, we have reported several cases of clones or counterfeited iPods being on sale in France but although in several countries in Europe too. We were rather surprised but the apparent inaction from Apple which was acting like the company did not care of such copies being sold to unfortunate consumers.
In fact, Apple France won its first legal action concerning an conflict from August 2007. The French Legal authorities in charge of such business-related lawsuit stated that the iPod nano Rev1 clones could be considered as counterfeited models due to their high level of similarities despite a much lower manufacturing quality. The sued company, Imptkno, was sentenced to pay 80 000 Euros to Apple France. Thanks to this first successful legal action, Apple France is probably going to hunt all distributors of such counterfeited or iPod clones.

AT&T rolling out much more 3G goodness. Guess which device stands to benefit?
Yeah the rest of the world is rolling their collective eyes because they've had 3G for like 35 years or something but AT&T has just announced a major expansion of their 3G network in the US. Their announcement means AT&T will roll out an additional 1,500 cell sites in the U.S. this year adding 80 more cities - which will bring the total to 350 markets in the US - and all of the top 100 cities. Just about ubiquitous enough for Apple to do some kind of 3G deal with AT&T, not just in iPhone, but also in iPod, and Mac laptops as well.

Studie: Akzeptanz mobiler Dienste steigt exponentiell
Das mobile Internet wird nun endlich Realität. Dies ist eines der Kernergebnisse einer Untersuchung der Strategie- und Technologieberatung Booz Allen Hamilton. Während die europäischen Mobilfunkanbieter 2007 immer noch 82 Prozent ihrer Umsätze mit traditionellen Sprachdiensten erwirtschafteten, machten mobile Datendienste inklusive SMS-Versand und E-Mail-Pushservices gerade einmal 18 Prozent der Umsätze aus. Ever since that XPS 630 went all mid-level on us we've been on the hunt for a new gamer desktop heartthrob, and it looks like we've found one in the XPS 730 H2C from Dell. This one was semi-announced at CES, and the official image (along with a shot of the innards) is after the break, but a friendly tipster just hooked us up with some spy sots from what we can only assume are the bowels of Dell. Mystery of the Vista-alike Windows 7 build finally solved

It was inevitable we suppose, but somebody's finally spilled on the shenanigans behind that "Windows 7 Ultimate" leak from a couple weeks back. According to JayDog over at TG Daily, who apparently received a version of the infant OS, the Windows 7 "Milestone 1" build is all Vista on top, but with the beginnings of a theoretically lean and mean Windows 7 kernel underneath, manifested in some slight speed improvements. Lenovo-Notebooks erhalten HSPA-Module von Ericsson
Ericsson und Lenovo werden künftig im Bereich der mobilen Breitbandmodule kooperieren. Ausgewählte Thinkpad-Notebooks sollen ab diesem Jahr mit HSPA-Modulen von Ericsson ausgestattet werden. Intel hat auf der International Solid State Circuits Conference technische Details zu seinem für Ultra-Mobile-PCs konzipierten Prozessor Silverthorne bekannt gegeben. Demnach soll der Die der 45-Nanometer-CPU gerade einmal 24,2 Quadratmillimeter groß sein. Zum Vergleich: Der Dual-Core-Die eines neuen Penryn-Prozessors misst 107 Quadratmillimeter. This range will be renewed in mid 2008 with the arrival of Tukwila. Still manufactured at 65 nm, this non-standard processor will have 4 cores, and a total of 2 billion transistors. The bulk of that massive figure is occupied by the 30 MB cache, and by advanced error correction systems to avoid crashes of the machine, even with software that contains bugs.
This product has no place in the current Apple range, but, according to information we have obtained, Apple could use it to produce the super Xserve. These machines do not fit into the current range, but they may resurrect the market for processing farms abandoned with the Power PC.

Ebay ändert sein Bewertungssystem

Nokia muss Millionen-Subventionen zurückzahlen

1.6TB SCSI SSD!
Source : DailytechBiTMICRO, a company not really known for its consumer electronic devices, decided to launch products based on SSD. For business and/or marketing reasons, they keep announced high capacity SSDs with their corresponding unrealistic prices (not model delivered yet).
After announcing a 1.6TB 3.5" SSD in SATA format, the company just announced the same model but in Ultra 320 SCSI format.
Both SSD would be using the most expensive SLC flash chips, offering transfer speed up to 230 MB/s.
Of course, such products are not targeting the consumer electronics market, but rather some niche markets for military or space applications.
However, with such enthusiasm around SSD, we might have such storage units in our computer in less than 10 years.

Yahoo möchte nicht von Microsoft übernommen werden
Welt Online meldet, dass Yahoo das Übernahmeangebot durch Microsoft in Höhe von 44,6 Milliarden US-Dollar als zu niedrig erachtet. Aus Aussagen einer "mit der Angelegenheit vertrauten Person" soll zudem geschlossen worden sein, dass Yahoo eine Zusammenarbeit mit Google erwäge, um sich der Übernahme durch Microsoft zu entziehen. It has become somewhat of an abiding obsession to outfit my G5 workstation with speakers that don't go rat-a-tat-tat every time my iPhone wants to talk to a cell tower. You readers have been very helpful with your suggestions, and I hope you've gotten some use out of my commentary (even if it's only Schadenfreude or commiseration).

Fedora 9: Erste Alpha mit KDE 4.0

Icann führt neue Generation von IP-Adressen ein

Nachdem Skype vor rund zwei Wochen zunächst den Video-Zugriff auf Dailymotion und später auch den auf Metacafe deaktiviert hatte, um ein Sicherheitsleck zu umgehen, steht nun eine aktualisierte Skype-Version bereit, um diesen Fehler zu korrigieren. iPhone erreicht Smartphone-Marktanteil von 6,5 Prozent
Mit den Verkaufszahlen des iPhone kann Apple bisher größtenteils zufrieden sein und auch der Marktanteil kann sich sehen lassen. Canalys hat die Marktanteile für das vierte Quartal 2007 ermittelt. Demnach liegt das iPhone mit einem Marktanteil von 28% am US-amerikanischen Smartphone-Markt bereits auf Platz zwei - hinter RIM (41%), aber vor Palm (9%). Das ist nochmal eine Steigerung gegenüber den 19,5 Prozent, die Steve Jobs für das dritte Quartal angegeben hatte.

More of Europe to be on the iPhone bandwagon shortly
Italy, Spain and Switzerland are next up in getting the iPhone officially from Apple according to a post by Macworld UK.
Spain Telefonica (parent company of O2, the UK iPhone provider) and Telecom Italia Mobile for Italy are both said to be in the latter stages of a planned release.. Macity has reported that iPhone's software already includes a piece of code (the TIM_Italy.bundle) that strongly suggests support for that network is already being built-in.

GLOBAL giants including Apple and Rupert Murdoch's News Corp are believed to be considering rival bids for the internet company Yahoo, which has received a $44.6bn (£22.6bn) offer from Microsoft.
The conglomerate InterActiveCorp was another company named as a potential bidder for Yahoo, which is said to be unwilling to give in to Microsoft without a fight.
After Microsoft's chief executive Steve Ballmer made the offer in a letter on Thursday, it emerged that Yahoo had rejected a similar takeover attempt by Ballmer's organization a year before.
