Sprint Launches Less Expensive Unlimited Plans with Lifetime Service Guarantee
Sprint today announced new two new mobile plans, both of which come with a new Unlimited Guarantee, ensuring unlimited talk, text, and data on the Sprint Network for the life of the cellular line. Sprint's guarantee applies to new and existing customers who choose to sign up for the "Unlimited, My Way" plan or the "My All-in" plan. The Unlimited, My Way plan offers customers unlimited usage for $80 per month for a single line, though additional lines (up to 10) can be added with a tiered fee that decreases based on how many lines are added. Surface RT 16GB gets price cut to $349 at Staples, starting July 14th
It didn't take long for us to grab some important details (well, a time and a place) about an incoming Surface RT price cut. Our source has forwarded a Staples ad -- and working link -- which reveals that a $150 price cut on the entry-level 32GB Surface RT will start this Sunday 14th July. No word on a discounted Touch Cover option, however, at least not from Staples, but we'll fill you in if there's other retailers jumping on the discount.

I'm always amused when people say the iPad is really not a productivity tool. If it only allowed web browsing and email it would greatly enhance my productivity. Of course, the iPad does much more than that and a case in point is the universal iOS app Note Anytime.

AirPort Utility for Mac and iOS Updated with Bug Fix [Mac Blog]
Both the Mac and iOS versions of AirPort Utility have received an update today, fixing an issue that caused some AirPort Base Stations not to be recognized by the apps. The bug fix follows last month's AirPort Utility update that added support for Apple's new AirPort Extreme Base Station and Time Capsule, both of which support the faster 802.11ac Wi-Fi. News: Verizon to fall billions short on iPhone contract?
Verizon may end up owing Apple billions of dollars in 2013 due to a purchase commitment for iPhones, according to a report. Any.do Launches Calendar App Aimed at Helping You Find More Time [iOS Blog]
Any.do, maker of popular list-making app Any.DO, has today launched its new calendar app Cal, which is aimed at helping people make time for things to do rather than just scheduling things they have to do. Über die Kamera haben wir ja bereits berichtet, bleibt die Frage, wie das Smartphone mit dem 41-Megapixel-Sensor in der Hand liegt. Über die Kamera haben wir ja bereits berichtet, bleibt die Frage, wie das Smartphone mit dem 41-Megapixel-Sensor in der Hand liegt. Die Antwort: gut! 10,4 Millimeter dünn ist das Telefon und liegt ob des großen Sensor natürlich nicht flach auf dem Tisch, was jedoch kein großes Problem zu sein scheint.

Alles wie bestellt. Nokia stellt in diesem Moment in New York das neue Lumia 1020 vor, ein Smartphone "mit dem größten BSI-Sensor, der jemals in einem Smartphone verbaut wurde". Steven Elop bezeichnete in seiner Einführung zwar die Rückseite als neue Vorderseite, fangen wir aber dennoch mal vorne an. Verizon Could Face Up to $14 Billion in Unsold iPhone Purchase Commitments for 2013

IGZO-Displays in künftigen iPads und MacBooks?
Das koreanische News-Portal «etnews» will aus Zulieferkreisen erfahren haben, dass Apple in Zukunft einen breiten Einsatz der IGZO-Displays plant. Angeblich hat sich Apple dazu entschlossen, künftig iPads und MacBooks mit IGZO-Displays auszustatten. Um diese Technologie in naher Zukunft in den MacBooks verbauen zu können, soll Apple mit seinen Display-Lieferanten «LG Display» und Sharp Gespräche aufgenommen haben. Während Sharp bereits mit der Massenproduktion der IGZO-Displays begonnen hat, baut LG seine LCD-Produktion noch um, sodass die IGZO-Displays hergestellt werden können.
Gemäss den Insidern plant Apple, die ersten MacBooks mit IGZO-Displays in der ersten Hälfte des nächsten Jahres auszuliefern. Wann die Produktion der IGZO-Displays für die iPads beginnen soll, konnten die Insider nicht sagen.

OS X 10.8.5 update will reportedly fix MacBook Air/Photoshop flickering issue
There's a new annoyance bothering current-model MacBook Air owners who use Photoshop. It seems that the MBAs with Haswell processors have issues with Adobe's flagship software. In particular, many MacBook Air owners noticed severe screen flickering while using brush tools in Photoshop. When news of the flickering first surfaced, an Adobe representative said he believed a GPU issue or a driver bug was causing it.
Now MacRumors is suggesting that the flickering is a result of a software glitch. Apple has released a new build of OS X 10.8.5 to developers and the Photoshop flickering issue appears to be resolved. As MacRumors reports

Q3 2013: Analysten erwarten kein Wachstum bei Apple
Einer Umfrage des Magazins «Fortune» zufolge erwarten die Analysten der Wall Street von der am 23. Juli stattfindenden Apple-Quartalskonferenz keine überdurchschnittlichen Zahlen. Stattdessen rechnen die meisten Analysten mit einer Stagnation bei Apple.
Bereits nach der Veröffentlichung der Zahlen für das zweite Quartal begannen die ersten Analysten, ihre Erwartungen für das dritte Quartal nach unten zu korrigieren. Beispielsweise reduzierte Matthew Hoffman von «Cowan and Company» seine Umsatzerwartungen um rund 13 Prozent auf 35.4 Milliarden US-Dollar. Gleichzeitig senkte der Analyst auch seine Erwartung für die erzielte Marge von 40 auf 35.4 Prozent.

HTC: Neue Version des One noch dieses Jahr, M8 folgt 2014

eBook-Preiskartell — Schuldspruch für Apple
Apple wurde am Mittwoch von einem US-Bundesgericht schuldig gesprochen, weil das Unternehmen gegen wettbewerbsrechtliche Regelungen verstossen hat. Das Gericht sah es als erwiesen an, dass Apple als Koordinator für ein eBook-Preiskartell gewirkt hat. Die Anklage konnte nachweisen, dass Apple Verträge mit den Verlagen geschlossen hat, um den Wettbewerb auszuschalten, wie es Richterin Denise Cote in ihrem Urteil schrieb.
Nicht Bestandteil des Prozesses waren die Verlage als Vertragspartner von Apple. Diese haben sich bereits vor dem Start des Prozesses mit dem US-Justizministerium aussergerichtlich geeinigt. Bei diesen Einigungen kam es zu Bussen im zweistelligen Millionenbereich. Zu einem späteren Zeitpunkt soll ein weiterer Prozess folgen, um den von Apple zu zahlenden Schadenersatz zu bestimmen.

Apple verteilt vierte OS-X-10.8.5-Vorabversion an Entwickler
Apple hat in der Nacht auf heute eine vierte Vorabversion von OS X 10.8.5 an registrierte Entwickler verteilt. Diese vierte Beta-Version von OS X 10.8.5 trägt die Build-Nummer 12F20. In den Release-Notes von Apple werden erneut keine bekannten Fehler gelistet. Den Notes nach zu urteilen, wird das Minor-Update für OS X wohl keine neuen Funktionen sondern nur Fehlerbehebungen beinhalten. Erst vor einer Woche verteilte Apple die erste Beta-Version von 10.8.5 (12F17).
Die Entwickler sollen sich auch bei dieser neuen Vorabversion vor allem auf die Bereiche Wi-Fi und Grafik-Treiber, sowie die PDF-Anzeige, das Aufwachen nach dem Ruhezustand und auf das Management von mobilen Geräten fokussieren. Wi-Fi und Grafik-Treiber standen bereits bei den zahlreichen Vorabversionen von OS X 10.8.3 und 10.8.4 im Fokus der Updates.

StubHub launches Spotify app for direct access to concert listings and tickets

Google to shutter Latitude service on August 9
The writing was on the wall for Google Latitude when the latest version of Google Maps, coming to iOS soon, did not include the location service. It didn't take Google long to announce that Latitude would shut down completely on August 9.
An email to Google Latitude users today announced the end of the service and said that Latitude friends lists will be deleted and changes to third-party apps that use Google Latitude's API. Crew building Apple Store discover 15th century hospital
Here in the US, we tend to think something like a 200-year-old barn is "old." Then someone makes a discovery like the one a construction crew in Madrid, Spain, recently unearthed, putting that barn in perspective.
A construction crew working on a forthcoming flagship Apple Store at number 1, Puerta del Sol in Madrid have come across the remains of what appears to be a 15th century hospital. The site was formerly the location of a hospital that was demolished in 1854 to make way for a square. While the ruins will be covered back up, the floor will be outlined to mark their presence, and a plaque will explain the outline.

Apple asks ITC to stop impending ban on iPhones and iPads
The International Trade Commission (ITC) a few weeks ago issued an order banning the import of older generation iPhones and iPads to the extent they infringe upon Samsung owned patents..
With the ban scheduled to go into effect on August 5th, Gigaom today is reporting that Apple filed a motion with the ITC asking for a stay on the impending ban until an appeals court weighs in on the ruling.
Apple writes that the ban will "sweep away an entire segment of Apple's product offerings" and that they will suffer irreparable harm if a stay is not granted.

OS X 10.8.5 Developer Seed May Fix MacBook Air Photoshop Flickering
Late last month, some Adobe Photoshop users reported that the new 2013-edition MacBook Air was exhibiting severe flickering when using some brush tools in Photoshop. It didn't happen with all units, but an Adobe representative said he believed it was a driver or GPU issue, and said Apple would need to fix the issue. Instagram introduces web embeds
Fresh off setting its cross hairs on Vine by adding the ability to shoot short videos, Instagram has announced plans to make its content embeddable. Starting today, users will be able to embed videos and pictures from Instagram accounts into web posts, adding an extra layer of sharing ability to the service.
Embeds include a link to your feed so you will always get credit for your shots that people repost, a point the company drove home in its official statement.

Additional Images of Colorful Low-Cost iPhone Shells Surface [iOS Blog]
New images of Apple's purported low cost iPhone popped up this morning, supplied by Australian writer Sonny Dickson. Depicted are five different color variations of the outer plastic shell of the low-cost iPhone, which look similar to previously leaked images. The shells are shown in bright, almost neon colors of pink, blue, green, yellow, and white.
