Apple Posts 27" Retina iMac-Sized OS X Mavericks Background
As part of its flurry of updates to Apple.com today, Apple's web team posted the new OS X Mavericks background image at 5120x2880. That resolution is identical to the one anticipated for a 27" Retina display for the iMac or a standalone Retina Thunderbolt Display. The image, which was noticed by Twitter user Marvin Scharle, is similar to Retina-sized images that were included in Lion in 2011, long before Apple had released any Retina-equipped Macs publicly.

Apple unveils new and interactive Mac Pro site
During today's WWDC keynote, Phil Schiller gave us a rare, if not unprecedented, look at an upcoming product that won't be shipping for a while. If you saw today's keynote, you likely caught Apple's eye-catching 30-second teaser video for the next-gen Mac Pro.

The Mac Pro will have Dual Workstation CPU FirePro processors, up to 2 times faster than the current Mac Pro. There is built-in support for up to 3 4K displays, HDMI out, GB ethernet, and internal storage with 1.25 GBps reads and 1 GBps writes. Apple Updates iTunes Connect with App Transfer Functionality [iOS Blog]
After today's keynote at WWDC in San Francisco, Apple sent out an email to developers announcing a change to iTunes Connect. Under the new rules, apps can be transferred from one developer to another within the system, without affecting the app's availability on the App Store. This should be a welcome feature for companies and developers who have faced transfer issues in the past. When an app is transferred from one developer to another (in the case of an acquisition, for example) all ratings and reviews are transferred as well, with no impact on end users. Apple aktualisiert AirPort Extreme und Time Capsule
Apple hat heute auch Neuerungen in der AirPort-Palette bekannt gegeben. Sowohl AirPort Extreme als auch Time Capsule stehen in einer neuen Modellgeneration zur Verfügung. iWork app suite coming to iCloud later this year
Apple has announced that its iWork app suite -- Pages, Keynote, and Numbers -- will be coming to iCloud.com sometime later this year. In web form, the apps will support a variety of editing functions such as font selection, adding, cropping, and rotating images, or animating Keynote transitions. Users will be able to gain access via compatible OS X and Windows browsers; Office documents will be included in format support.

Craig Federighi simply didn't have the time to go through all of the features in iOS 7, so I decided to scrape some of those features from a slide.
View PDF annotation -- in iOS, it's been impossible to view annotations that someone has added to a PDF. It appears that feature is finally coming to iOS 7, and that will bring even more PDF power to our apps.
Enterprise single sign-on -- Not sure how this is going to be implemented, but providing a way for Enterprise users to use one sign on for all of the sites that they need to work with on a daily basis is huge. This resolves the issue of needing to log into multiple apps on an Enterprise network.
Turn-by-turn walking directions -- Finally, what we have in Google Maps, available for iOS Maps

Halo für die Xbox One kommt 2014 mit 60 fps (Video)
Frisch vorgestellt auf dem Xbox-Event auf der E3: die neue Version von Halo kommt nicht nur als Fernsehserie von Steven Spielberg und 343 Industries, sondern ganz traditionell auch für die Xbox One. Laut einem Microsoft-Mitarbeiter gibt es noch keinen endgültigen Namen für das Halo der nächsten Generation, aber es wird sich "ganz der Power und Flexibilität der neuen Konsole" bedienen, über Microsofts Cloud gebuffert werden und als erster Teil der Halo-Serie mit 60 fps laufen. Apple hat heute «iTunes Radio» angekündigt, einen kostenlosen Internetradio-Dienst, der über 200 Sender und einen «unglaublichen Musikkatalog» aus dem iTunes Store bietet und mit Funktionen kombiniert, die «ausschliesslich iTunes zur Verfügung stellen kann», so Apple. Der im Vorfeld als «iRadio» spekulierte Musik-Streamingdienst wird somit realität. Apple hat heute iOS 7 vorgestellt, das «bedeutendste iOS Update seit dem Original-iPhone», kommt das System doch mit einer neuen Benutzeroberfläche. iOS 7 ist völlig neu designt mit «raffinierten Bewegungen», einer «eleganten Farbpalette» und verschiedenen, funktionalen Ebenen, die es «lebendiger anfühlen lassen». Star Wars Battlefront game under development at DICE using Frostbite 3
At its pre-E3 event today, EA revealed the Star Wars Battlefront franchise will return. The game is currently being developed by DICE and will use the same Frostbite engine that powers the Battlefield games. EA snagged the exclusive rights to develop Star Wars games after the end of game development at LucasArts, and this is a blend of IP and developer that certainly makes sense. Apple has posted the Jony Ive introduction video for iOS 7, along with the full-length keynote, the 'Designed by Apple' television ad that Tim Cook showed at the end of the keynote, as well as the introduction video from the keynote that is part of the same campaign. The 'Designed by Apple' ad, featuring a voiceover from actor Ben Affleck, is a branding spot looking to reinforce Apple's California roots. iOS 7 to include security feature dubbed "Activation Lock"
Apple today unveiled a slew of new iOS 7 features, one of which aims to make the iPhone a less desirable device for thieves.
With a new iOS 7 utility Apple calls "Activation Lock", thieves who attempt to turn off "Find my iPhone" will not be able to do so unless they have a user's iCloud credentials. What's more, even if a thief attempts to wipe a device clean, he won't be able to reactivate the phone without entering in a user's credentials.

Don't touch me! Anfassen ist nicht. Ähnlich wie beim WWDC, als das MacBook Pro mit Retina Display nur wenigen Medienvertretern für ein erstes Hands-On überlassen wurde, zeigt sich auch der neue Mac Pro nur hinter Glas. Der Rechner ist ein Hub sondersgleichen: 4 x USB, 6 x Thunderbolt 2, HDMI, 2 x Gigabit Ethernet stehen zur Verfügung, um die Peripherie von Power Usern an den Rechner zu koppeln, da wirkt der Kopfhörerausgang schon fast niedlich.
Sind wir eigentlich die einzigen, die hier eine Renaissance des Apple Cube vor uns sehen?

Apple Store wieder online: MacBook Air, AirPort Extreme und Time Capsule neu
Gut eine Stunde vor der Keynote der WWDC 2013 ging der Apple Online Store offline. Nun ist dieser wieder erreichbar und bietet ein neues MacBook Air, AirPort Extreme und Time Capsule. Die Airport Extreme*, Airport Time Capsule* und das MacBook Air* wurden einem Hardware-Update unterzogen. Die Airport Extreme und Airport Time Capsule haben ein neues Design erhalten und sind insgesamt etwas höher gebaut. Durch 802.11ac Wi-Fi soll die Datenübertragung bis zu drei Mal schneller sein (1,3 GBit/s). Apple premieres iTunes Radio streaming service
As a part of unveiling iOS 7, Apple today confirmed the existence of a new streaming service, iTunes Radio. The service will be accessible through iTunes, iOS, and the Apple TV; in iOS it will be built into an overhauled Music app. People can listen to custom or featured stations, and like Pandora skip songs, and vote to have the service play more of a certain kind of song or never play a track again. Tracks can also be added to an iTunes wishlist.

New Mac Pro sneak-previewed at WWDC, coming later this year
Apple on Monday gave developers and the public a "sneak preview" of the next Mac Pro coming later this year -- a radical new "cannister" form factor in black that is 1/8th (by volume) the size of the previous model. It features a 12-core configuration based on all-new (but unnamed) Intel Xeon processors, dual AMD-provided workstation graphics, new PCIe flash storage, new faster RAM, PCI Express gen 3 support, the ability to use up to three 4K-quality displays, and external outputs dominated by Thunderbolt 2.

Apple unveils a new iOS 7 site
As you might expect, Apple has unveiled a brand new official website for iOS 7, showing off the new operating system, its new (flat!) look, and new features. You can see a hint of what the new look is like above, but of course the website goes into much more detail, and shows off all of the new status bar features, the new notification center, multitasking panels, the new photo app, the new weather app and iMessage layout, and the new iTunes Radio feature in the music app, too.

AirPort Time Capsule
Anscheinend war die Keynote dank iOS 7 und OS X Mavericks so voll gepackt, dass Apple ganz vergessen hat die neue Time Capsule vorzustellen. Mit 802.11ac ist auch sie auf dem neuesten Stand der WiFi-Geschwindigkeit und haben 6 Antennen. Drei davon für 2,4GHz, drei für 5GHz. Das Gewicht ist 1,48 Kilo und sie kommt mit drei Gigabit Ethernet LAN Anschlüssen, einem Gigabit Ethernet WAN Anschluss, USB 2 (leider) und lässt sich mit bis zu 50 Nutzern betreiben. Zur Konfiguration ist OS X Lion oder mindestens ein iOS 5 Gerät nutzbar. Der USB Anschluss lässt sich für Drucker und Festplatte nutzen. Some of the iOS SDK features that were quickly touched on by Craig Federighi today sound fascinating, although we won't get details on some of them until later. Here are some that I found to be the most interesting:
New multitasking APIs -- this should enable that y ou use most often to update themselves in the background
Secure Game Center scores -- as Erica Sadun pointed out, people know how to hack the leaderboards right now; this may eliminate that
MFi Game Controllers -- this is HUGE for gaming. MFi, of course, means "Made for iPhone/iPad/iPod", and this API should make game controllers that work with our devices become more prevalent.

Apple updates the App Store app with a new look, features
In addition to all the other changes in iOS 7, Apple updated the App Store with a fresh look and feel. The App Store has a new kids category that sorts apps by age, which is great for parents. There's also a new feature that'll let you find apps that are popular near you. One other time-saving improvement is the addition of auto-update for all iOS apps. You'll never have to be nagged by that badge with your app updates, nor hit that "update all" button again.

Briefly: Sushi chain uses iTrays; Enolsoft updates YouTube Downloader
Daily Mail reports that London's sushi chain, Yo! Sushi, has employed a new, unorthodox method of food service. Yo! Sushi now delivers its patrons' meals to their tables by way of iPad-controlled quadracopters, aptly named iTrays. The devices are made of light-weight carbon fibre, and fly trays of food to tables up to 50 yards away from the kitchen at up to 25 mile an hour. Apple Updates Camera and Photo app
We all know that the camera is one of the most popular features on the iPhone, and Apple has poured some new ideas that should add to the joy of photography on iOS 7.
At WWDC today, Apple announced that the camera app has had a completely revamped GUI. I didn't see a lot of new features, but different modes can be selected by swiping from a standard photo, to video, to panorama mode, to a 4x3 aspect ratio.
The big changes are in the iOS 7 photo app. For the first time, Apple is letting you apply filters directly. Apple has also enhanced finding photos with a concept called moments, so photos you have taken will be intelligently grouped by time and location.

iOS 7 Activation Lock: iPhone stehlen wird noch schwieriger

Das im Herbst erhältliche iOS 7 hat neben allen anderen neuen Funktionen auch ein besonderes Sicherheitfeature bekommen. Activation Lock verhindert, dass jemand das Find My iPhone Feature abschaltet ohne die Apple ID und das dazugehörige Passwort zu kennen. Versucht jemand ein so gesichertes iPhone zu löschen, taucht das gleiche Problem auf. Es wird sich zeigen wie sicher das Feature ist und ob nicht doch wieder jemand einen Weg findet diese Sperre zu umgehen.

So when can we get our hands on that new refreshed flavor of iOS? Well, it'll depend on your device of choice. It will be supported on iPhone 4 and later, iPad 2 and later, iPad mini and 5th-generation iPods. Developers will get a version for iPhones today, with an iPad iteration coming in the next few weeks. OS X 10.9 Mavericks: Apple mit neuem Mac-Betriebssystem auf WWDC 2013
Apple hat auf der Eröffnungskeynote der WWDC das kommende Update für Mac-Computer vorgestellt. Es heißt OS X 10.9 “Mavericks”. Zu den neuen Funktionen gehören Tabs im Finder, ein verbessertes Tagging-System und eine verbesserte Unterstützung für multiple Bildschirme. MacBook Air 2013: Technik, Preis und Release
Während der World Wide Developers Conference 2013 hat Apple unter anderem ein neues MacBook Air vorgestellt, das mit der neuen Generation der Intel-Haswell-Prozessoren aufwarten kann. MacBook Pro 2013: Keine Vorstellung zur WWDC
Neben einem neuen MacBook Air hieß es, dass Apple im Zuge der World Wide Developers Conference 2013 auch ein neues MacBook Pro vorstellen würde, allerdings hat dieses keinen Platz innerhalb der Keynote gefunden. Am Abend hat Tim Cook auf der Einführungskeynote zur WWDC 2013 vor Publikum iOS 7 vorgestellt. Das neue mobile Betriebssystem trägt die Design-Handschrift von Jony Ive und wird noch heute in einer Beta-Version an Entwickler ausgegeben. A new-generation Mac Pro with very high performance (and likely prices to match) is due in the fall. Multitasking revamped in iOS 7
Tim Cook just said in California that multitasking in iOS 7 has just been revamped completely. iOS will now monitor your app usage even more closely than before, meaning it will have apps like Facebook pull in news and other updates in the background, getting them all ready when you grab the app. As you can see above, there's also a new panel for app controls, new options for switching apps, and Apple has placed important settings like brightness and Bluetooth controls right there on the screen.

Apple introduces streaming iTunes Radio service as part of iOS 7
Apple has introduced a music streaming service called iTunes Radio, to be found iOS 7. For now, the service will be right in the Music app on iOS, and will offer up a series of featured stations (including, for the demo, a station of the music heard at WWDC.) Just tap on a station, and you'll get music from it, and you can choose to star songs to hear them again often, play more songs like this, or choose to never play a certain song again.
The service is completely free, and supported by ads (presumably driven, as expected, by iAds). If you're an iTunes Match subscriber, however, the service will be completely ad-free, so that's a nice bonus. Siri and iOS in the Car updates announced at WWDC
The next update to Siri has been announced at WWDC, bringing a new graphic user interface and improved search options. Siri will now show the sound wave of your question as you speak and features a new voice that sounds a little less Hal 2000. Users will have male and female voice options, with English, French, and German voices packaged out the gate. More language options will be added as time goes on.
Siri's capabilities have also been updated to include the ability to play voice mails, turn on bluetooth or increase brightness. In addition Twitter, Wikipedia, and Bing searching have been enabled.

Apple debuts music streaming service, iTunes Radio
Granted, this one felt like a bit of a wild card in the lead up to WWDC, but ultimately the rumors have proven true: Apple's just taken the wraps off of a brand new music offering, iTunes Radio. The service is built directly into iOS 7's music app, featuring easy access to radio stations using your own music collection. The company's also got hundreds of its own stations, grouped by artists and genre -- artists like, get this, Led Zeppelin. You can modify stations by taping the star, telling the app which songs you love and hate, You can also access old stations by clicking your history button.

Apple's delivered a whole bunch of new features for iOS 7, and the App Store is one of the beneficiaries. Apple announced iTunes Radio today, a new feature that is built into the Music app in iOS 7. The new feature offers music discovery through featured and genre stations provided by Apple or through the creation of new stations based on a specific artist or song. iTunes Radio keeps track of all of the songs listened to for easy access later for purchasing or repeat listening. iTunes Radio will also be available on Mac and PC through iTunes and Apple TV. At today's WWDC keynote, Apple today announced OS X Mavericks, the next version of its Mac operating system. The software makes a number of incremental feature improvements, such as adding tags and tabs to Finder; users can copy items between tabs by dragging them around. Airport Extreme, Time Capsule updated with 802.11ac, Beamforming
Phil Schiller has revealed updated versions of its AirPort base stations at WWDC, made to accommodate the improved Wi-Fi in the revised Macbook Air, confirming earlier rumors. Apple's Roger Rosner announced iWork for iCloud today at WWDC. Using iCloud users will be able to fully edit Numbers, Pages, and Keynote documents via their web browser regardless of the operating system they're working on. Yes, since iWork for iCloud is accessed via a browser you can even edit documents in Windows.
The most impressive feature shown was how powerful the programs editing capabilities were for being available in a web browser. Control Center finally brings quick toggles to iOS
OK, Apple, you got me.
"It's iOS 7," I groused to our newsroom after Craig Federighi ran through the changes in Notifications. "Can we please get quick toggles for bloody Wi-Fi, Airplane mode, etc.?"
And the next thing out of Federighi's mouth was the new Control Center.
Let's be real, this is a feature that should have been a part of iOS at least five versions ago. But, I'm glad it's here now, and it is gorgeous. Control Center can be accessed from anywhere on the iPhone with quick access to basic settings like Airplane mode, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Do Not Disturb and orientation, brightness toggle, media control, AirPlay and AirDrop and apps. There's even a flashlight. It's gorgeous, it's much-welcome, and it's so far my favorite feature in iOS 7.

iOS 7 to include Control Center for quick-access settings
For many iOS users, one of the most sought after features has been a quick access panel for common settings, much like what they've seen in other platforms. They'll have it -- iOS 7 is introducing Control Center for just that purpose. A swipe up from the screen bottom now lets users change wireless modes, Do Not Disturb, screen brightness and music playback from wherever they happen to be in the OS. More than 600 million iOS devices sold, Tim Cook says
Tim Cook is on stage in California right now talking iOS numbers, and as you might imagine, they're big. There are more than 600 million iOS devices sold worldwide, according to Mr. Cook, and almost half of those in just since the last year's WWDC. Smartphone usage market share is high, with iOS garnering 50 percent more usage than other platforms, and the iPad is even bigger in the tablet category, with 82 percent of usage as compared to 18 percent of "other" tablets.
Users are also satisfied, with the iPhone winning multiple awards in its lifetime, and boasting a 97 percent satisfaction rate. Apple offers a sneak peek at new Mac Pro at WWDC 2013
The Mac Pro is getting a long-overdue update, and it looks like it is going to be worth the wait. The Mac Pro, available 'later this year,' is downright small compared to the current tower, but the specs are amazing.
The Mac Pro will have Dual Workstation CPU FirePro processors, up to 2 times faster than the current Mac Pro. There is built-in support for up to 3 4K displays, HDMI out, GB ethernet, and internal storage with 1.25 GBps reads and 1 GBps writes. The new Mac Pro features Thunderbolt 2, and it's backwards-compatible with the current-generation Thunderbolt accessories.

Apple introduces new MacBook Airs at WWDC 2013
WWDC isn't just about software, it's also about the hardware that powers Apple's esteemed software. To that end, Phil Schiller today took the stage where he announced some welcome and exciting changes to Apple's MacBook Air lineup.
First and foremost, the battery life on Apple's new MacBook Airs has increased dramatically. On the 11-inch model, battery life has gone up from 5 hours to 9 hours. On the 13-inch model, battery life has increased from 7 hours to 12 hours. Those are some incredible improvements, and something Schiller noted was the result of close collaboration between Apple engineers and Intel.

Apple unveils Keychain for iCloud, confirms 300 million iCloud accounts
Apple announced some major changes to iCloud, including a new iWork for iCloud and a keychain feature that'll sync your logins across all your iOS devices. The keychain is a cloud connected keychain manage that ties into Safari on the desktop and Safari on the iPad and iPhone. It'll save passwords as well as credit card information and more.

iOS 7: Flach, 3D, transparent und mehr animiert mit Multitasking für Apps
iOS 7 ist eine rundum erneuerte Version. Zwar ist die übliche Anordnung von Apps nach wie vor die gleiche, aber alles wirkt wesentlich lebhafter. Die Bildschirmhintergründe liegen auf einem eigenen Layer und wenn man das iPhone dreht, dann hat man das Gefühl hinter die Icons zu sehen. Alles hat eine komplett neue Typographie bekommen die oft auf weißen Hintergründen basiert, ist animierter und auch die eigenen Apps stecken voller Animationen. Der typische Skeuomorphismus ist auch hier komplett verschwunden. Folder bekommen jetzt mehrere Seiten, so dass man nicht mehr auf Hilfsmittel wie Games1, Games2 usw. zurückgreifen muss.

Apple is taking another swing at web-based productivity. Although iWork.com was a flop, it thinks iWork for iCloud is going to be thing thing. It takes Pages, Numbers, and Keynote, and adds them to the cloud. By launching iCloud.com, you can now view, create, and edit documents from wherever you might be, on Mac or PC. Really, anything you can do natively on the Mac, you can now do in the browser.

Mac: Apple AirPort Extreme (Mid 2013)
Apple’s diving into the newest wireless standard, 802.11ac, with its Macs. To go along with them, it’s also released an updated version of its AirPort Extreme ($TBD), which has cannibalized the Time Capsule line. Apple announces new AirPort Base Station
Phil Schiller has just announced that Apple is releasing new AirPort Base Stations with all-new designs. The new Base station is 802.11AC compatible. Design-wise, it's got a new shape too: 4 inches wide by 6.5-inches tall. The new Base Stations also include a 2 or 3 GB hard drive, so it appears to be a Time Capsule as well. Der neue Mac Pro wurde angekündigt und wird der erste Mac sein, der nur in den USA produziert wird. Mit 12-core 256-bit Intel Xeon Prozessor, 1,866MHz DDR3 Speicher und 60GBps und SSD Speicher mit 1,25GBps Lesegeschwindigkeit und 1.0GBps Schreibgeschwindigkeit. Für letzteres wird man entschädigt mit sechs Thunderbolt 2 Anschlüssen, die bis zu 20Gbps schaffen. 4 USB Anschlüsse gibt es, obendrein und gleich zwei FirePro Graphics von AMD. Today at Apple's Worldwide Developer Conference Keynote, while talking about Mac OS X Mavericks, Senior Vice President of Software Engineering Craig Federighi announced a new password manager called iCloud Keychain for Safari. At today's WWDC keynote event, Apple offered a sneak peek of its next-generation Mac Pro, a line of desktop of computers that has not received a significant update in over a year. Apple Announces 'iWork for iCloud' for both Mac and iOS [Mac Blog]
At today's WWDC keynote event, Apple announced iWork for iCloud, a new version of iWork that is coming for both Mac and iOS later this year. iWork in iCloud brings Apple's iWork software suite to the web, and on stage, the company demonstrated Keynote, Numbers, and Pages operating in a browser window. The apps are also designed to work seamlessly with Microsoft documents. For example, a Microsoft Word document dragged into Pages for iCloud will be converted and easily read. Apple WWDC statistics claim developers paid $10Bn from App Store
Apple CEO Tim Cook has started the keynote address at the currently-running 24th Worldwide Developer Conference by relaying some key statistics to the on-location and online audience. Apple brings Maps to OS X in Mavericks
Maps in OS X was expected but is very welcome. After a rough beginning on iOS, Apple Maps has been progressing, and now with Maps running on OS X, we'll see some powerful integration between the Mac and iOS. Maps on a Mac looks smooth and impressive in 3D. Even better, there's been a big effort to integrate maps with Calendar, and sync between all your Apple devices. If you set up an appointment, you'll get the ability to map it, and when scheduling your day, the travel time and traffic will be taken into account.
Also, Apple says you can send directions from your iPhone to your desktop, or back the other way. Sent directions will show up as notifications, so it is easy to start on your journey without a lot of fiddling around

Apple announces Safari upgrades as part of OS X Mavericks
Apple has announced an updated version of Safari at WWDC. The browser update adds a new homepage featuring a Top Sites feature that stores all of your book marks and regularly read sites. Using a new bookmark bar you can easily add and remove links to your Top Sites selection. They've also introduced a "Reading List" feature to the home page, a reader of sorts that allows you to quickly jump from story to story on the sites you read the most. Safari also now has Twitter and LinkedIn integration that allows you to monitor and open links shared in those services within the browser using another sidebar.

Apple Maps for OS X 'Mavericks' lets you instantly send directions from your iPhone
Apple just announced that it's bringing "fantastic updates" to Maps on the desktop -- and presumably on iOS as well, including letting you send directions directly from your iPhone to your Mac, and vice-versa. The new feature will arrive with OS X Mavericks, and a brief demo showed how you could map your route to a restaurant, then instantly bring up the same map and route on your iPhone with a couple of taps once you're ready to go. Each June, just like clockwork, Apple refreshes its MacBook Air line -- sometimes with a new design, and always with brand new processors. Well, today is June 10th, and it's the start of WWDC, which means it's time to bring out the 2013 models. The company just unveiled the new 11- and 13-inch Airs, both of which step up to Haswell CPUs and all day-battery life. OS X Mavericks capable of receiving iOS notifications
If you have a Mac and use an iOS device, Apple just announced a nice feature to go along with its new version of OS X: the ability to push iOS notifications directly to your Mac, regardless of whether or not Safari is open. The alerts show up as a banner in the top right corner of your display, much the same as any other Mac-related banner; additionally, any missed notifications will pop up in your lock screen any time you wake up your device.

Apple Announces Mac OS X 'Mavericks' [Mac Blog]
At today's WWDC keynote event, Apple announced the next version of its Mac operating system, dubbed "Mavericks" after a surfing area north of Half Moon Bay in California. Mavericks will feature many new Finder features including tabs, full-screen capability, tagging, and independent handling of multiple displays. Tagging items allows users to categorize and search for files more easily. With multiple displays, Finder will display a menu bar in each to allow easier control of all apps. Mission Control has also been modified to allow easy transfer of apps between displays. Mavericks will also display apps through a connected Apple TV. A new feature called Timer Coalescing will reduce CPU activity by smoothing out active processes and idle time while another new feature, Compressed Memory, will compress inactive memory to make free space available to running apps. News: WWDC: More than 900,000 apps, $10B to developers
Apple CEO Tim Cook announced at Apple’s WWDC 2013 Keynote that there are now 900,000 apps available in the App Store, and 93 percent of those apps are downloaded each month. Anki Debuts 'Anki Drive' Intelligent Robotic Car Game [iOS Blog]
On stage at WWDC today, Tim Cook stepped aside to allow app developer Anki to debut a new product, known as Anki Drive. According to Cook, “Anki uses iOS devices and the iOS platform to bring artificial intelligence and robotics into our daily lives.” The product uses robotic toy cars powered by Bluetooth to drive on a track. The cars know their location and they are able to react to their surroundings in real time. They analyze thousands of potential actions every second and are equipped to handle a multitude of situations. It’s described as a real world video game, as the weapons and the cars can be programmed individually. The cars are controlled via the iPhone or the iPad. Anki Drive is coming to Apple Stores this fall, while the app is available for download today.

Apple kicked off WWDC with its typical heap of numbers about the developer community, Apple retail and more.
At WWDC, participants traveled from more than 660 countries to attend, with 66 percent attending for the first time. The developer program has over 6 million registered developers, with 1.5M added in the past year. As we all remember, tickets for the conference sold out in just 71 seconds.

Apple App Store Updates: 50 Milliarden geladene Apps, 900.000 verschiedene

Auf der WWDC Keynote hat Tim Cook soeben die aktuellen Zahlen zum App Store bekanntgegeben. Insgesamt sind bislang 50 Milliarden App geladen worden und es gibt jetzt 900.000 Apps für iOS. Davon sind 357.000 für iPad optimiert, also schon mehr als ein Drittel. Und bei den Entwicklern bleibt immer mehr hängen. 10 Milliarden Dollar sind bislang von Apple ausgezahlt worden an die Entwickler und allein im letzten Jahr waren es 5 Milliarden, die Entwicklung ist also rasant und die Gewinne der iOS Entwickler sind zwei Drittel der gesamten Einnahmen des Marktes.

AT&T has launched an iOS version of its Enhanced Push-to-Talk service, that allows customers to chat instantly with large groups. Limited to the iPhone 4S and iPhone 5, the new app can be used to make calls on compatible WiFi networks, including more than 32,000 AT&T hotspots, as well as over the company's 3G and 4G networks. Wie iOS 7 (vielleicht) aussehen wird
Seth Weintraub, von den Kollegen von 9to5Mac, durfte sich eine frühe Beta von iOS 7 für iPhone, iPod touch und iPad anschauen. Aus seiner Erinnerung ließ er einige Mockups anfertigen. Alle vorinstallierten Apps und deren Icons sollen neu designt worden sein. Durch kleine Wasserzeichen in den frühen Beta-Versionen von iOS 7 wollte man verhindern, dass Screenshots geleakt werden. Deshalb konnte Seth Weintraub lediglich einen kurzen Blick darauf werfen, um daraus anschließend Mockups anfertigen zu lassen. A restaurant here in London is delivering its customers' food orders in a unique way: via an iPad-controlled quadrocopter. The Yo! Sushi restaurant in Soho is promoting its new sushi burgers by delivering them to diners' tables via the "iTray" -- a quadrocopter fitted with a tray for the food, controlled by an iPad.
If you've eaten at a Yo! Sushi before, you know that the company likes innovative ways of delivering its food. Its restaurants currently feature conveyor belts where diners can lift the items they want as they crawl past their tables.

Daily iPhone App: Scurvy Scallywags is great fun for landlubbers or first mates
Ron Gilbert is the great game designer mind behind popular series like Monkey Island, Maniac Mansion, and the recent Deathspank games. His latest project is called Scurvy Scallywags, and arrived on iOS last week. The game is great -- it's a match-3 title that makes use of some excellent RPG and combat mechanics. While it's not the most polished thing on the App Store, there's a whole lot of piratey fun to be had.

AT&T extends iPhone upgrade period to two years
AT&T is extending mobile phone upgrade periods from 20 months to a full two years, according to Engadget. The news was obtained from a corporate memo leaked to the site. Previously, smartphone owners could upgrade their contract phones after 20 months, but now those owners will need to wait a full two years to upgrade phones bought on a contract.
The move by AT&T follows a similar one by Verizon a few months ago. The new upgrade period goes into effect immediately for all new contract subscribers and also for all current subscribers whose terms finish in March or later.

WWDC 2013 Keynote Live Video Stream Available via Apple's Website
A short time ago, Apple brought back its "Apple Events" channel for Apple TV, confirming that it will be offering live video streaming of today's media event. Apple has now updated its site to promote a live stream available online, making the broadcast available to a much broader audience. The video stream requires Safari 4 or later on a minimum of Mac OS X Snow Leopard, or iOS 4.2 or later for those accessing the stream from a mobile device. Video: WWDC-Keynote wird live übertragen
Apple übertrug früher alle Keynotes live via QuickTime Broadcast ins Internet. Während den letzten 9 Jahren wurden nur noch ganz selten Keynotes live übertragen. Nun scheint es heute Abend wieder eine Live-Übertragung zu geben. Apple wird das die WWDC-Keynote heute Abend zumindest auf «Apple TV» live übertragen. Ob es — wie letztes Jahr beim iPad-mini-Event — ein Stream auf der Apple-Webseite geben wird, ist noch derweil noch unklar.

SK Hynix teases 4GB LPDDR3 RAM for high-end mobiles due end of this year
Samsung has already pressing ahead with its own high-density 20nm LPDDR3 modules, but SK Hynix reckons it can go one better. One Kick-Ass Machine: 10 Jahre Power Mac G5 / Mac Pro
Anlässlich der «WWDC 2003» stellte Apple am 23. Juni 2003 den «Schnellsten Personal Computer der Welt» vor — den «Power Mac G5». Seither hat das Gerät diverse Updates erhalten, bis 2006 noch als «Power Mac G5», danach mit den Intel-Chips als «Mac Pro». Das Äussere des Mac-Boliden blieb jedoch bis zum heutigen Mac-Pro-Modell fast identisch mit dem ersten G5-Power-Mac von 2003.

Once again, Apple has decided to live-stream today's keynote via a special "Apple Events" channel on the Apple TV. Apple first unveiled the "Apple Events" channel last October when the company live-streamed the iPad mini event through it. iMac Update to Haswell Expected in June or July as Shipments Sink
KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has released a brief research note today highlighting the status of the iMac, which he says will see shipments fall to roughly 650,000 units this quarter from 1.75 million units in the first calendar quarter. The drop is due in part to seasonality and in part to a natural decline from the pent-up launch demand during the first quarter. Most importantly for potential iMac customers, Kuo believes an iMac update that will bring Intel's new Haswell processors to the line is coming in June or July.We attribute the shipments decline to the fact that new product shipments have peaked and due to the arrival of the consumer slow season. But we believe iMac shipments troughed in 2Q13. Apple is expected to upgrade iMac processor to Intel’s (US) latest Haswell processor in June or July. Meanwhile, the consumer peak season has arrived. Thus we expect shipments to reach 1.1mn units in 3Q13, up 69% QoQ. Full-year shipments are forecast to be 4.7mn units, up 31% YoY.

R.I.P.: Autor Iain Banks stirbt mit 59 Jahren
Der schottische Autor vieler Science-Fiction-Romane, Iain Banks, ist gestern im Alter von 59 Jahren verstorben. Banks, der sowohl im Science-Fiction- (als Iain M. Banks) und auch im "normalen" Literaturbetrieb aktiv war, litt seit längerer Zeit an Gallenblasenkrebs und hatte seine Fans Anfang April über seinen alarmierenden Gesundheitszustand informiert, gut zwei Monate später hatten die Qualen nun ein Ende. Die Veröffentlichung seines neusten und letzten Romans, The Quarry, in dem er seine Krebserkrankung thematisiert, hat er nicht mehr erlebt, das Buch kommt am 20. Juni in den Handel.

Lenovo setzt auch weiterhin auf den PC

A lineup is already well underway for the eagerly-awaited start of Apple's Worldwide Developer Conference and in particular the keynote address, scheduled for 10AM Monday. 9to5Macs Photoshop-Experte Michael Steeber hat basierend auf Beschreibungen, welche von Insidern stammen sollen, Symbole gestaltet, wie sie in iOS 7 zur Anwendung kommen könnten. Insgesamt wird die Gestaltung der Icons gemäss dieser Visualisierung deutlich zurückhaltender sein als bei den aktuellen Icons. Apple könnte auf die vielen verschnörkelten Elemente, welche vor allem im Icon-Hintergrund zu sehen waren, verzichten.
Grosse Veränderungen könnte es demnach bei der Gestaltung des «Fotos»-Icons und der Gestaltung des «Game Center»-Icons geben. Anstelle der zuvor verwendeten Bilder könnten kolorierte Formen als App-Symbol dienen. Auch das Safari-Icon wird gemäss der Beschreibungen der Insider deutlich flacher daherkommen als zuvor. iRadio: Auch Sony soll unterzeichnet haben

Um 10:00 Uhr Ortszeit (19:00 Uhr unserer Zeit) startet im Moscone Center in San Francisco die WWDC 2013 mit einer Keynote. Die Gerüchteküche geht für heute Abend von nichts geringerem als einem generalüberholten iOS 7 und OS X aus. Ebenfalls hoch im Kurs liegt ein Musik-Streamingservice von Apple. Auch neue MacBooks soll es geben und auch die von vielen lange ersehnte neue Mac-Pro-Lösung könnte heute Wirklichkeit werden.
Der Abend scheint sehr spannend zu werden — mit den spekulierten Änderungen bei iOS dürfte der heutige Abend bestimmt wegweisend für Apples Zukunft sein.

Heute Abend ab 19 Uhr findet die Eröffnungsveranstaltung zur Apple-Entwicklerkonferenz WWDC statt. Samsung isn't normally spoken of in the same breath as Razer, Alienware or Clevo, which is why its 17-inch Series 7 Gamer was such a surprise. But could it run with the big boys? Surprisingly, yes. WSJ Confirms New iOS 7 Design, 'iRadio' Introduction at WWDC
Apple will announce a significant redesign of its iOS software and a streaming-music service tomorrow at WWDC according to a pair of reports from The Wall Street Journal posted this evening. AT&T extends upgrade period to two years
AT&T is following in the footsteps of its chief rival by lengthening the period customers must remain on contract before they can upgrade their devices. An anonymous source tipped Engadget to the carrier's decision, which will limit customers to upgrading their devices only when they've reached the full duration of their contracts. Prior to the policy shift, the upgrade period was 20 months.

Legendary ad man Lee Clow talks about Steve Jobs' love of branding and more
While speaking at the PTTOW! summit last May, legendary ad executive and TBWA Global Director and Chairman Lee Clow reminisced fondly about his 30-year journey "looking into the future" with Steve Jobs.
He was 25 years old, when I met Steve. And he was already this passionate, intense. He and Wozniak invented this thing called the personal computer. Wozniak was just kind of into it for the hobby kind deal. Steve looked at it and said, "This is going to change everything."
Clow touched on a number of topics, but his story regarding Jobs' love of branding is particularly interesting.
