FreedomPop apologizes for WiMax iPod touch case delays

FreedomPop, the service looking to disrupt the low end of the wireless industry with free service and low cost devices, apologized this week for delays in shipping its WiMax iPod touch cover. The cover, FreedomPop says, is caught up in the approval process at the Federal Communications Commission. To make it up to pre-orderers, the company is offering a FreedomPop Photon mobile hotspot with 2GB of free data, as well as the possibility of a free sleeve.

It's hard to believe that six years ago today -- June 29, 2007 -- was the first time that anyone other than Steve Jobs and a handful of Apple employees got their hands on an iPhone. Apple Testing Software Update to Address 2013 MacBook Air Wi-Fi Issues

Last week, it was reported that a growing number of owners of Apple's new MacBook Air were experiencing Wi-Fi issues, with users reporting problems such as dropped connections that require a restart in order to reconnect. Gerüchten zufolge könnte der Home-Button des iPhone 5S mit dem Apple-Logo versehen werden. Eine tschechische Website hat ein Foto des Bauteils veröffentlicht. Letemsvetemapplem behauptet, dem Home-Button des kommenden iPhone 5S würde das Apple-Logo spendiert. Die Betreiber der Website behaupten, das Foto stamme aus einer sehr gut unterrichteten Quelle und sie sind von der Echtheit des Home-Buttons überzeugt. Apple testet Update für MacBook Air um Wi-Fi-Probleme zu beheben

WSJ: Taiwan Semiconductor confirmed to become 2014 chip supplier

The Wall Street Journal says it has confirmed with an executive for the company that Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) will become the lead supplier of Apple's in-house-designed A-series processors in a ramp-up beginning in 2014 with 20nm system-on-chip (SoC) processors, confirming Electronista's report from DigiTimes that appeared earlier this week. The company, which has been an Apple supplier for years, is said to have recently overcome some technical obstacles to increase its output to the speed, power and quality standards required by the iPhone maker.

Chitika: iPhone 5 accounts for 75 percent of 4G web traffic

Following on the heels of -- and almost precisely in line with -- a Comscore study of US marketshare, ad network Chitika reports that when looking at just the "4G"-capable segment of the overall smartphone market, the iPhone 5 (Apple's only "4G"-capable phone) dominates web traffic just as the iPad does in the tablet arena. When looking at only 4G/LTE smartphones released since July of last year, the iPhone 5 by itself accounts for just over 75 percent of North America 4G web traffic, and when considering all still-active 4G/LTE smartphones it commands about a 40 percent share.

OS X Mavericks Adds Auto-Renew Subscriptions for Mac App Store [Mac Blog]

While iOS apps like Evernote and Instapaper are able to provide users with in-app auto-renewing monthly subscriptions for services, the same functionality is not available in the Mac App Store at the current time. For example, Evernote is able to offer a renewable monthly subscription to its premium service via iOS, charging $5 per month. On the Mac App Store, however, Evernote cannot offer a subscription, instead requiring users to sign up each month or purchase a year of service in advance.
