BlackBerry Secure Work Space now available on iOS
BlackBerry made a major announcement Tuesday with the expansion of its BlackBerry Enterprise Service to include iOS and Android devices. The move sees the phone company increasingly focusing on services as it deals with its strengths in the face iOS and Android market share. Secure Work Space allows BlackBerry clients to manage their files on all devices they support with the companies legendary security, even when they're not on their BlackBerry.

Apple Thunderbolt Display Supplies Again Running Low at Third-Party Resellers
Inventories of the Apple Thunderbolt Display are dwindling at some third-party resellers, according to a report from MacTrast. The site spoke to a number of retailers including MicroCenter, Fry's, CDW, Best Buy, MacConnection, and others. Several stores said they had limited stock, while a number more said they were backordered or otherwise completely out of stock. One retailer, Adorama, went further, saying the Thunderbolt Display was "no longer available". MacTrast called their customer support line and were told that "the manufacturer is no longer allowing us to order new inventory for this item, and it has been removed from our system".

German Court: Samsung likely guilty of Apple design patent violation
In the latest chapter of Apple and Samsung's legal travails in Germany, reports are surfacing that the same court which issued a preliminary injunction in the country against the Galaxy Tab 10.1 over a design patent will issue a similar ruling on Apple's claim that six older Samsung smartphones are also clear imitations of Apple products. Devices cited as infringing in this action include the Galaxy S I , Galaxy S Plus, Galaxy S II, Galaxy Ace, Galaxy R, and Galaxy Wave M.

Mad scientists turn roaches into cyborgs, control them with Kinect, laugh at nature

iLuv preps vibration-equipped TimeShaker alarm dock
Accessory maker iLuv has announced the TimeShaker, an upcoming alarm dock for iPhones and iPods. The unit is iLuv's first alarm dock to switch to Lightning, the connector format used on the most recent generation of Apple devices. The dock's name comes from its detachable shaker unit, which can be slipped under a pillow to wake people who might otherwise miss a sound alarm.

AT&T Sells Out of HTC First Inventory at $0.99, Compares Experience to Apple's Motorola ROKR Experiment

I got to run through almost all of EA and Chillingo's upcoming titles at E3 a few weeks ago, and one theme was very clear: The company is investing heavily in the freemium business model, and plans to use its quality and expertise to convince customers to generate an ongoing cash flow for its developers. Princeton-area Apple Store to open on June 29th
Apple has announced a Saturday, June 29th opening for its anticipated Princeton-area store. The outlet is launching in the Quaker Bridge Mall, roughly five miles away from Princeton University. Hours will run from 10AM to 9PM Monday through Saturday, and from 11AM to 6PM on Sunday.

Apple brings 'Designed by Apple in California' ad campaign to print
Apple has brought its popular 'Designed by Apple' ad campaign to the print medium. A new two-page-spread ad was spotted in the Toronto Star by 9to5Mac. Like the "Our Signature" television ad first shown off at this year's WWDC, the print ad focuses on Apple's ecosystem and how Apple's products benefit people in their lives. Cupertino to hold Wednesday environmental impact meeting for Campus 2
The City of Cupertino is scheduled to host a public meeting Wednesday on the environmental impact of Apple's upcoming "spaceship" campus, officially known as Campus 2. Samsung looking to settle EU antitrust case ahead of trial
According to a report from Reuters, Samsung is hoping to avoid a trial with the EU and settle charges that it illegally leveraged its standard essential patents against Apple.
The talks came after the European Commission, which acts as EU competition regulator, told Samsung in December that it was acting unfairly by seeking injunctions against Apple over use of the essential patents.
"Samsung has been involved in settlement discussions for several months now. Samsung wants to settle," said one of the sources, who declined to be identified because of the sensitivity of the matter.
While Apple has taken Samsung to court across the globe, those lawsuits center on patents that Apple owns and is under no obligation to license out.

Apple Set to Take On Microsoft with Expanded Florida Mall Retail Store [Mac Blog]
The expansion project at the Florida Mall Apple Retail Store that will see the store more than tripling in size has been in the works for more than a year. A tipster has sent us this image of the black paneling showing where the new store will be inside the mall. Firefox 22 supports 'high-intensity' Java content, WebRTC calls
Mozilla has posted the public release of Firefox 22, an important update of its multi-platform web browser. The app incorporates a new JavaScript subset, asm.js, which Mozilla says should let developers create "high-intensity" web apps such as 3D games and photo editors without extra plugins. Sony Music Unlimited for iOS gains offline mode, high quality streaming
Sony Music Unlimited (free) has only been available for iOS for about a year, but those who have embraced the service for their Apple products will get a treat soon -- an update that not only provides higher-quality streaming, but also adds offline playback of music.
In the offline mode, users get the ability to download single tracks or entire albums for their listening pleasure off the network. Streaming gets a boost up to 320 Kbps AAC files; that's a feature that is just a setting change away. Unfortunately these two features don't coexist, as there's no way to download the 320 Kbps music files for offline listening.
The update takes the iOS version of the app up to complete feature parity with the Android v

As promised by the free-to-view UK TV service, YouView's finally launched its dedicated Android app. Offering the ability to browse a full week of program listings for its collection of over 70 TV and radio channels, the app can also remotely record TV shows. Agent smartwatch SDK released, developers can start tinkering
Four days after hitting its Kickstarter goal, Agent Watches has released the SDK for its smartwatch. The watches won't ship until December, but all developers need to start working is the emulator and a Bluetooth-compatible device. Microsoft bringing Xbox and PC games to the iPhone
Reuters is reporting that Microsoft will begin bringing select Xbox and PC game titles to the iPhone. Apparently Microsoft's developers will not be porting the games, but will instead rely on a Japanese company called Klab. According to Reuters:
Through a licensing deal, Klab will bring Microsoft's Xbox and Windows-based computer games to the iPhone and smartphones using Google Inc's Android operating system, according to the Nikkei.
Microsoft's "Age of the Empires" will be available as a free-to-play game worldwide on smartphones by the end of the fiscal year 2013 and other titles will follow, the report said.

Apple bringt “High-Dynamic-Range”-Fotos (HDR) auf das iPad. Unter iOS 7, das in der Beta 2 in einer Version für iPad und iPad mini veröffentlicht wurde, kann man nun HDR-Aufnahmen mit der Kamera-App machen. Nutzer werden mit iOS 7 in Zukunft auch HDR-Fotos mit ihrem iPad aufnehmen können. Zumindest deutet dies die Beta 2 von iOS 7 an. Japanese court upholds dismissal of Apple patent suit against Samsung
Japan's Intellectual Property High Court has upheld the Tokyo District Court's dismissal of an Apple lawsuit against Samsung, according to Bloomberg. In August 2012, the District Court ruled that there was no merit to Apple allegations that Samsung had infringed on patents related to media sync on mobile devices. "It's hard to believe the products belong to the range of technologies of the claimant," the judge in the case stated at the time. Apple was ordered to cover the costs of the lawsuit, but filed an appeal of the dismissal in October.

Während sich das iPad in seinen zwei Formfaktoren gegen gefühlt eine Millionen andere Produkte durchsetzen muss, ist es, was die Webnutzung in Nordamerika betrifft einfach völlig unschlagbar. Mit satten 82,4% wirkt es fast so, als wäre da sonst nichts auf dem Markt was relevant wäre. Apple nimmt sich Wi-Fi-Problemen beim neuen MacBook Air an
In den letzten Tagen beschwerten sich einige Käufer des neuen MacBook Air über die schlechte Verbindungsqualität des WiFi-Chips. Angeblich hat sich jetzt Apple aber diesen Kundenrückmeldungen angenommen und untersucht nun, was die Gründe für die schlechte Verbindungsqualität sind. Apple loses lawsuit appeal against Samsung in Tokyo court
Apple has lost an appeal to a previous ruling in favor of Samsung in a Tokyo court, according to Reuters. The ruling came from the Intellectual Property High Court where Apple had appealed against an October ruling that found Samsung had not infringed on an Apple patent for synchronizing music and video data on a server.

Seit Beta 1 von iOS 7 können Nutzer ihre Kontakte auch über einen Google-Account oder andere Anbieter, die die Synchronisation mittels CardDav bieten, auf iPhone oder iPad aktuell halten. Scott Buscemi zufolge müsste man für den Austausch von Kontakten zwischen einem Google-Konto und einem iOS-Device eigentlich noch einen CardDav-Account anlegen. Es schien für ein paar Stunden so als hätte Microsoft einen guten Plan. Laut Reuters haben sie zusammen mit Klab jetzt schon einen ersten Titel in Planung, der seinen Weg von Xbox zu iOS und Android findet. "Age Of The Empires" soll noch dieses Jahr erscheinen. Andere sollten laut der Meldung folgen. Microsofts PC-Games bald auch auf iOS
Microsoft hat heute eine Zusammenarbeit mit dem Spielentwickler «Klab» bestätigt. Dank dieser Partnerschaft werden Spiele-Klassiker wie «Age of Empires» bald auch auf iOS- und auf Android-Geräten verfügbar sein. Gemäss Microsoft hat Klab eine globale Lizenz erhalten, um eine mobile Version von «Age of Empires» zu entwickeln. Die App wird zuerst in Englisch verfügbar sein und gleichzeitig für iOS und Android veröffentlicht. Ab welchem Zeitpunkt das Spiel für die beiden mobilen Betriebssysteme von Apple und Google verfügbar sein wird, gab Microsoft allerdings noch nicht bekannt.
Nach dem Launch wird das Spiel gemäss den Aussagen von Microsoft weiterentwickelt und auch in anderen Sprachen verfügbar gemacht. Ebenfalls in Planung ist eine Version für Windows Phone, welche aber ebenfalls erst später verfügbar sein wird.

Sony SmartWatch 2 zeigt sich: wasserdichtes zweites Display für Android-Geräte

Die SmartWatch 2 läuft unter Android und hat die gleichen Fernsteuerungs-Features wie ihre Vorgängerin (also Anrufe und Mails beantworten, Fotos machen usw.), allerdings jetzt mit einem größeren Touch-Display das 1,6-Zoll misst und eine Auflösung von 220 x 176 Pixeln bietet. Das Aluminium-Gehäuse ist robust und nach dem IP57-Standard staub- und wasserdicht, ganz wie bei der Xperia Z-Linie. Knapp einen Monat nach dem ersten Release Candidate hat der CyanogenMod 10.1 jetzt finalen Status erreicht. Der Mod bietet Unterstützung für über 50 Geräte und beruht auf Android 4.2.2. Samsung denies giving up on desktop PC tower business
Yesterday, The Korea Times reported that Samsung was to close its "unprofitable" desktop PC business as "demand for conventional desktop PCs is going down," according to an unnamed spokesperson. DigiTimes: Apple und TSMC unterzeichnen Chip-Deal
Gerüchten aus taiwanesischen Zulieferkreisen zufolge soll Apple in dieser Woche einen Produktions-Vertrag mit dem Auftrags-Hersteller TSMC abgeschlossen haben. Gemäss den Gerüchten werden die A-Prozessoren für die iOS-Geräte ab dem Jahr 2014 von TSMC gefertigt. Ob TSMC der einzige Hersteller der übernächsten Prozessor-Generation sein wird, geht aus den Gerüchten nicht hervor. Die Prozessoren für die nächste, siebte Generation des iPhones sowie für die fünfte Generation des iPads werden demzufolge noch ausschliesslich von Samsung stammen, während der Wechsel zu TSMC für die übernächste Prozessor-Generation vorgesehen ist. Der nun angeblich abgeschlossene Vertrag soll eine Laufzeit von drei Jahren haben. TSMC kommentierte auf Anfrage von DigiTimes die Kundenbeziehungen nicht.

OS X Mavericks: Beta 2 erschienen
Apple hat gerade die zweite Beta für OS X Mavericks zum Download zur Verfügung gestellt. Wer bereits die erste Beta auf seinem Mac installiert hat kann das Update direkt über den Mac App Store beziehen.
Auch wenn nicht direkt ein Update angezeigt wird, ein erneuter Klick auf den “Updates”-Button lässt die Anwendung erneut nach Neuerungen suchen, und die zweite Beta auch anzeigen.

Report: iPad continues to rise in North American web traffic stats
Apple's iPad tablet has high a five-month high in terms of web interaction by North American users, reports mobile advertising firm Chitika, with the next two groups of rivals -- Amazon's Kindle Fire and Samsung's Galaxy tablet models -- far behind. Apple verteilt zweite Beta von iOS 7 und OS X Mavericks
Apple hat in der Nacht auf heute die zweite Vorabversion vom kommenden iOS 7 (11A4400f) und OS X 10.9 «Mavericks» (13A497d) an registrierte Entwickler verteilt. Die neuen Beta-Versionen können von den Entwicklern von developer.apple.com oder über Geräte mit der ersten Beta geladen und installiert werden. Ebenfalls verfügbar wurde eine zweite Beta von Xcode 5 und OS X Mavericks Server.
Beta 2 von OS X Mavericks enthält auch einige Updates für das AirPort-Utility, iTunes, die Thunderbolt-Firmware und HP-Druckertreiber. Laut Release-Notes soll die neue Vorabversion noch bekannte Fehler bei der Anzeige in Safari und beim iCloud Schlüsselbund haben.

Microsoft bringing Age of Empires to iOS, may port other titles
Microsoft is allegedly using a partnership with Japanese mobile developer KLab to bring some of its gaming titles to iOS and Android before the year is out. According to a report in Japan's Nikkei business newspaper and a later confirmation by Microsoft itself, at least the original Age of Empires is coming and may be just the first of a series of ports. The company said that earlier reports of additional Xbox Live-based game ports had "incorrect information" and said there were no announcements beyond Age of Empires.

Some 802.11ac equipment flawed, Apple replacing models with issues
Apple's 802.11ac wireless launch has been somewhat less than perfect. In an effort to diagnose problems reported in some new Apple devices sporting 802.11ac compatibility, the Cupertino manufacturer has instructed its service centers to "capture" customers' computers if they are suffering from Wi-Fi connectivity issues. Additionally, technical research has been published noting that Apple uses a sub-optimal network setting built into the wireless protocol, limiting the connectivity speed of the new standard at least temporarily.

iOS 7's Siri Can Learn How to Pronounce Names [iOS Blog]
Shortly before today's iOS 7 Beta 2 was released, one of 9to5Mac's readers found that iOS 7's Siri has the ability to correct pronunciations for names. Image via 9to5MacPreviously, getting Siri to properly pronounce names required a user to edit the "phonetic name" for a contact and manually adjust the spelling until Siri pronounced the name the correct way. Now, as 9to5Mac notes, a user can simply say "pronounce [insert name here]" to put Siri through a simpler name pronunciation learning process.

iOS 7 Disables Screenshot Interruptions, Allows Users to Secretly Take Snapchat Screenshots
While we detailed a number of new features of iOS 7 beta 2 earlier today, a MacRumors reader sent us a tip on a small change that has gone unnoticed since the first beta was released on June 10. In iOS 7, screenshot behavior has been altered, and as the release notes state, "Active touches are no longer canceled when the user takes a screenshot." This minor change has a number of implications for several apps that rely on screenshots to notify users of unwanted behavior, such as Snapchat and Facebook Poke. When a user opens a Snapchat photo in the app, a finger is required on the screen to hold the photo open while viewing the picture. Accessory and security manufacturer Kensington has unveiled its first keyboard covers for the iPad mini, ranging from an ultra-thin folio case to a hard-shell style case and a model specifically designed for the touch-typist that features a removable keyboard. Developers: OS X Mavericks beta update is available
We're getting numerous reports via the tweets that iOS 7 wasn't the only beta Apple OS to receive an update today. OS X Mavericks is also being treated to a new beta release; unfortunately, there's nothing visible on the Apple Developer Center right now that shows either the download or any release notes.
However, our sources tell us that visiting the App Store on your favorite OS X machine that's running Mavericks should show you that beta 2 is now available for download. And let me guess it probably contains "bug fixes and improvements."
As if updates to iOS 7 and OS X Mavericks isn't enough, Apple is also making updates to Xcode 5 and OS X Server Preview available today. Get thee to the developer center now!

Apple Releases OS X Mavericks Developer Preview 2 [Mac Blog]
After releasing the second beta of iOS 7 for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch developers, Apple has also seeded the second Developer Preview of OS X Mavericks to developers. The second iteration of the OS X Mavericks beta carries a build number of 13A497d, while the original version released on June 10 was build 13A476u. Mavericks includes features like a tabbed Finder, new full screen dual monitor capabilities, and Safari improvements. Rdio updates family plan, bumps the limit to five users for $32.99 a month

Shade 3D reaches v14, adds new features with more to come
Mirye Software has announced a forthcoming major new version of its Shade 3D software, version 14, and a change in the way it handles updates. The company will abandon the "monolithic" periodic release model and instead distribute feature updates to Shade 14 throughout its life cycle, the company says. LightScribe software for optical disc labels finally updated
Optical discs Apple hates them, but lots of people still use them. Blu-ray has been a relatively slow starter in the computer world and we will never see that technology in an Apple product. Dear Apple,
I'm somewhat disturbed about the interface changes you shared with us during the keynote and on your website. Specifically, I'm not especially happy about all those borderless buttons.
Without affordances, those visual UI elements that suggest or reinforce areas of interaction, buttons have lost a critical user engagement piece. I'm certainly not the only developer who feels this way.

Study: The general public prefers iOS 7 system icons
As users wait for the official debut of iOS 7, the new operating system's design is getting a wide range of responses from across the internet opinion machine. It's easy to look at a few blogs and think you've got an idea of what the general consensus about the redesign is, but that's a pretty small sample size.
