The Walking Dead: 400 Days schlägt die Brücke zum kommenden zweiten Teil des Game (Trailer)

Ob nun die Wartezeit überbrückt werden soll oder die Spannung gesteigert sei mal dahingestellt: The Walking Dead: 400 Days erweitert den ersten Teil des Games um fünf Episoden, in denen es ums Überleben in den ersten 400 Tagen nach der Katastrophe geht, durch die die oberlästige Zombieplage des Szenarios ausgelöst wird. Das Zwischenspielchen gibt´s für rund 5 Dollar für alle Varianten von Walking Dead: The Game. Der zweite vollwertige Teil mit dem sinnigen Titel "Season Two" kommt dann im Herbst.

Barron's topples Apple from World's Most Respected Company spot
Apple has spent the last 3 years at the top of Barron's annual ranking of the world's most respected companies but has toppled from its perch.
Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway has stolen the crown, coming up from the 12th position last year. The Walt Disney Company is second place, Apple is third, with rival Google in fourth.
The bump for Berkshire Hathaway is likely about stock prices, which is up 25%. Apple hasn't had that kind of luck with its stock just above $400, down from a high of more than $700 last year. Apple isn't alone in getting the bad news. McDonald's fell to 8th from 3rd, while IBM moved to 10th place from 2nd.

Opera 15 now available for Mac

Apple Close to Completing Apple TV Deal with Time Warner Cable
According to a report from Bloomberg, Apple and Time Warner Cable are close to completing a deal that will bring a TWC app to the Apple TV. Im Großraum New York startet gerade ein neuartiger Schlüsseldienst: Kunden können bei KeyMe gratis ihre Schlüssel scannen lassen, anschließend werden die Daten anonym und supersicher in der Cloud gelagert. Braucht man dann irgendwann ein Duplikat, kann man dies einfach an einer der KeyMe-Stationen, die sich in ausgewählten Supermärkten finden, für 20 Dollar herstellen lassen, auch wenn man gerade sein letztes Exemplar verbummelt hat und natürlich vollautomatisch und supersicher mit dem Scan aus der Cloud. The Walking Dead's '400 Days' episode comes to Mac this week, iOS on July 11
IGN reports that the new, extra episode of Telltale's The Walking Dead series will be arriving on both Mac and iOS very soon. And by "soon," we mean this week for the Mac (on Steam and Telltale's site), and July 11 for iOS.
The episode, first revealed back at E3, is called "400 Days," and is supposed to serve as a halfway step between the game's first season and the upcoming second. The Walking Dead game is critically acclaimed as one of the best games of last year, and while I played (and enjoyed) it on the Xbox 360, it also earned a lot of praise on iOS as well. Budget-iPhone Render-Bilder veröffentlicht
Im Internet wurden neue 3D-Render-Bilder des kommenden Budget-iPhone von Apple veröffentlicht. Zwar weiß keiner, wie genau es ausschauen wird, doch anhand bisheriger Gerüchte entstanden nun sehr schicke Konzeptgrafiken. Auf dunklen Fotos konnten wir zuletzt die “vermeintliche” Rückseite des Budget-iPhones sehen. Niemand wollte sich so recht vorstellen, dass Apple von seinem Farbschema abweichen wird und tatsächlich derart knallige Farben verwenden wird. iOS 7 Installs Hit All-Time High for Beta Software [iOS Blog]
According to mobile publishing company Onswipe (via TechCrunch) adoption of Apple's iOS 7 beta software is ramping up faster than for previous versions. For example, after the iOS 6 beta was released to developers on June 11, 2012, Onswipe noted two weeks later that 0.25% of mobile devices that visited the company's sites were running the iOS 6 beta. Devices running the iOS 7 beta, which was released to developers on June 10, represented 0.46% of total traffic to Onswipe sites as of July 1, 2013.

High-Resolution Renderings of Apple's Lower-Cost Plastic iPhone
While Apple has been rumored for some time to be planning to launch a lower-cost iPhone available in multiple colors with a plastic shell, reports have been picking up steam in recent weeks, led in part by a claim that Apple will be adopting the bright colors it used for its iPhone 4/4S bumpers. That report was followed by leaked design drawings from a case maker showing the expected measurements and physical features of the device. Phil Libin shares some insight on Evernote's future
Fortune has had a quick chat with our friend Phil Libin, the CEO of Evernote, a company that has grown by leaps and bounds since we last talked. Evernote was popular big back when it simply tracked notes and photos. Today the company has acquired Skitch and a few other companies, and is making inroads with services like Evernote for Business.

New York City to get .nyc top-level domain
New Yorkers are notoriously proud of their city, and what better way to show that hometown love than with a .nyc address? According to Mayor Bloomberg's official Twitter account, that will soon be possible for Big Apple residents. The just-launched website for the "ultimate New York City address" (har, har) says the top-level domain will help local businesses appear in search results; "businesses, organizations and residents" will be eligible, though that's it for details at the moment. Pebble watch strikes deal with Best Buy
Pebble, the Kickstarter darling and harbinger of the smartwatch revolution, will break free from its online-only shackles shortly, as Best Buy has revealed that its stores will begin carrying the crowdfunded device on July 7th. Up until now, the ultra-capable timepiece was only available via the Kickstarter campaign or through the company's own pre-order program. Eleven iPad-centric schools to open in the Netherlands
Eleven schools in The Netherlands plan to replace blackboards, schedules and more with iPads. In fact, each student's entire educational career will hinge on Apple's revolutionary tablet device.

Unsere US-Kollegen konnten jetzt zum zweiten Mal ein Vorserienmodell des Sony Xperia Z Ultra unter die Lupe nehmen. Spotify update brings 'Discover' function to iOS
Spotify today issued an update for its iOS app which brings its Discover functionality to iOS. I've been using and enjoying the Discover feature on the desktop version of Spotify and it should be a welcome addition to the already engaging and addictive mobile app.
Some other additions include a new "Now Playing" view and the ability to edit playlists directly from the iPhone.

Netherlands to launch iPad-based 'Steve Jobs schools' in August
Starting in August, 11 so-called "Steve Jobs schools" will start running in the Netherlands, says German publication Der Spiegel. The schools will be primarily iPad-based, substituting the tablet for things like textbooks and blackboards. At WWDC the announcement of OS X Mavericks, plus the release of the new Intel Haswell-based Macs on which it will eventually run, reaffirmed Apple's direction to keep touch with the province of iOS devices. Briefly: ABC tightens live streaming on iOS, Thins from SwitchEasy
ABC has tightened restrictions on its Watch ABC Live Stream, now requiring all users to verify they are on a cable subscription with a username and password. First released back in May, the Watch ABC app was limited to people in New York and Philadelphia, but didn't require any proof of a cable subscription. However, ABC has also announced that it is expanding the services reach, allowing subscribers in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago, and Raleigh-Durham to access the live streaming service from an iPad.

Apple made £68 million in the UK last year, paid £0 corporation tax
Apple is once again under fire in the UK for paying no taxes last year, even though the company earned £68 million (US$103 million) in the country. Apple got around paying UK taxes by offering employees £40 million worth of stock, which the company could then write off as a business expense, thus lowering its taxable income. The company has also carried a £3.8 million tax deduction forward for next year. It should be noted that Apple's tax activities are entirely legal, even though its moral and ethical implications leave a bad taste in the mouth.

Southwest Airlines and DISH Launch Free In-Flight TV [iOS Blog]
Southwest Airlines and satellite television provider DISH yesterday announced a new deal to bring free live and on-demand TV to Southwest's 400 Wi-Fi-enabled planes. Apple planning to build solar farm to power Reno data center
Apple is planning to build a state-of-the-art solar-powered farm to power its Rino data center, according to GigaOm. Currently the Reno data center is powered using geothermal energy, but once the solar powered farm is completed, Apple's data center will run on 100% renewable energy. Opera 15: Browser auf Chromium-Basis für OS X und Windows veröffentlicht
Opera 15 ist fertig und wurde für Mac OS X und Windows veröffentlicht. Der Browser wurde auf der Basis von Chromium neu aufgebaut und damit die eigene Presto-Engine fallen gelassen. Stattdessen werkelt die als WebKit entwickelte Blink-Engine in Opera. Nach der Ankündigung im Februar und der Vorabversion im Mai gibt es nun Opera 15 als finale Version für Windows und OS X zum Download. Well, I suppose if you're going for all out luxury in constructing a yacht, there's no harm in going the extra mile and making the iPad a centerpiece of importance.
CNN on Monday reported on a $15 million "space-age yacht" that sports a rather innovative design, and believe it or not, can be navigated with an iPad.
The innovative design, along with high-tech features such as an iPad-controller, helped glossy "Adastra" win three prizes at last week's prestigious ShowBoats Design Awards in Monaco, including Best Naval Architecture.
Impressively, the ability to control the yacht via an iPad can be done even at a distance of 50 meters, or about 164 feet.

Canon EOS 70D: extrem schneller Video-Autofokus (Video)

Nächstes iPhone mit LTE-Advanced?
Die «Korea Times» will aus vertraulicher Quelle erfahren haben, dass Apple die nächste Generation des iPhones mit dem leistungsfähigeren LTE-Advanced-Standard ausrüsten könnte. Dank diesem neuen Standard ist es theoretisch möglich, Daten mit einer Geschwindigkeit von bis zu 150 Mbps zu transferieren. Die aktuelle LTE-Generation kommt auf theoretisch 100 Mbps. Die gute Nachricht dabei lautet: niemand wurde verletzt. Mies ist unterdessen, dass 500 Tonnen hochgiftiger Treibstoff an Bord waren, die nur teilweise verbrannten, der Rest verseucht jetzt großflächig die Absturzgegend. Ebenfalls blöd: mit der Rakete gingen auch drei Satelliten des Glonass-Navigationssystems flöten, der Gesamtschaden soll 200 Millionen Dollar betragen.

«Brings mIT!» — Eigene Smartphones und Tablets in der Schule
Die Projektschule Goldau beweist sich erneut als Vorreiter einer «zukunftsgerichteten Schule». Das Institut für Medien und Schule (IMS) der Pädagogischen Hochschule Zentralschweiz Schwyz (PHZ) hat für das Schuljahr 2013/2014 der Primarschule Goldau ein neues Projekt «Brings mIT!» initiiert. Beginnend nach den Sommerferien sollen eine 3. Klasse und alle Kinder von fünf 5. und 6. Klassen der Gemeindeschulen Arth-Goldau persönliche digitale «Kleincomputer» — wie Smartphones, Handhelds (wie iPod touch) oder Tablets — mit Erlaubnis der Lehrperson in die Schule mitbringen und für schulische Zwecke nutzen dürfen. Schülerinnen und Schüler, die kein privates Gerät mitbringen, werden von der Schule Geräte zur Verfügung gestellt.

Apple plant neues Solarkraftwerk in Reno
Um das neue Apple-Datencenter in Reno (Nevada, USA) mit Energie zu versorgen, hat sich Apple dazu entschlossen, in der Nähe ein Solarkraftwerk zu bauen. Das Kraftwerk, welches in Zusammenarbeit mit dem lokalen Energieunternehmen «NV Energy» gebaut wird, wird eine Gesamtleistung von 18 bis 20 Megawatt aufweisen und eine Fläche von 13’700 Quadratmetern bedecken. Apple arbeitet bei der Planung des Kraftwerkes mit dem Unternehmen «SunPower» zusammen, welches bereits beim Bau des Apple-Solarkraftwerkes in Maiden beteiligt war. Das neue Solarkraftwerk von Apple wird nicht nur über klassische Photovoltaik-Anlagen verfügen, sondern auch über Spiegel, welche das Sonnenlicht stärker auf die Panels konzentrieren.

Canon has announced a new addition to its EOS Digital SLR camera line, the 70D. The new camera offers wireless transmitter that lets users not only share pictures and video, but control camera settings from the smartphone. The 20.2-megapixel APS-C Canon CMOS sensor and Digic 5+ image processor offer an ISO range of 100 to 12,800 (expandable to 25,600) and continuous shooting of up to seven frames of second. Frankreich: Behörden durchsuchen Büros von Apple
Die französische Wettbewerbsbehörde «Autorite de la Concurrence» hat in der letzen Woche Büroräumlichkeiten von Apple, Grosshändlern und Händlern durchsucht. Bei diesen Durchsuchungen wurden Dokumente beschlagnahmt. Procreate for iPad gets major upgrade in version 1.8
Procreate ($5), a painting app for the iPad, has updated to version 1.8 which brings a significant overhaul to the program. The app, which won an Apple Design Award at the WWDC this year for its overall excellence, has added a freehand selection tool, a copy and paste system, painting and brush improvements, transform improvements, a new 1080p preset and other improvements to its Create Canvas interface and over a dozen other changes and fixes in the free update. Mac 101: How to retire a Mac with an iCloud account
When you want to retire, sell or give away a Mac, you should never just pass it on to someone else as-is.
There are many apps that only allow you to use your serial numbers a limited time, most notably from Adobe and Microsoft. You should deactivate the software so that you can reuse your serial numbers on a new Mac.

Apple to Announce Q3 2013 Earnings on July 23
Apple updated its investor relations page today to note that it will announce its earnings for the third fiscal quarter (second calendar quarter) of 2013 on Tuesday, July 23. The earnings release typically occurs just after 4:30 PM Eastern Time following the close of regular stock trading, and the conference call is scheduled to follow at 5:00 PM Eastern / 2:00 PM Pacific. Apple to Build Solar Panel Farm for Reno Data Center
Apple is planning to work with Nevada utility company NV energy to build a solar panel farm next to its Reno data center, reports GigaOM. Like the company's two other solar farms located in North Carolina, the Reno solar farm will provide between 18 and 20 MW of power and will be built by solar company SunPower. NPD: MacBook Air owns 56 percent of the US ultrabook market
Market analyst NPD says that a single model of thin-and-light ultrabook -- Apple's MacBook Air -- owns over half of the market for such devices, leaving all the other manufacturers of endlessly MacBook-esque portables with 44 percent share, at least in the US. NPD analyst Stephen Baker says that the MacBook Air by itself is responsible for 56 percent of all US ultrabook sales, and that is based on figures prior to the recent release of the much-improved 2013 model, which the company thinks will only increase Apple's share.

Best Buy May Begin Selling Pebble Smart Watch This Weekend [iOS Blog]
According to two employees (via 9to5Mac) some Best Buy stores in the United States will offer the Pebble smart watch beginning on Sunday. The product, which carries an in-stock date of July 7th in the store's inventory system, appears to be limited to Best Buy's brick and mortar locations. Additionally, the inventory system points to an in-stock date of July 7th, which is the upcoming Sunday. Best Buy typically rolls out specials and new products on Sundays, so this date makes sense. South Korea, Apple reportedly in iPhone talks
The Korea Times is reporting that Apple has been talking with South Korean based SK Telecom about the possibility of introducing an iPhone that would support its recently introduced LTE-Advanced (LTE-A) network.
"SK Telecom is approaching Apple to put our LTE-A technology on the upcoming iPhone 5S. We are in the middle of negotiations," said an SK Telecom executive, requesting anonymity.

Here's a nice little feature for those of us who love to post images on the internet. Bing has added the ability to refine image results by license. The addition's simple enough to use -- just do a search and pull the appropriate license from a drop down on the top of the results page, alongside options for date, size and color. Wibbitz is a clever, free iOS app that grabs the latest news, reads it to you, and the quickly displays related images, like people who were mentioned, maps or other news service pictures that are generally relevant.
