Evernote tops voting for TUAW Mac Best Productivity App of 2011

It's the service, Mac app, and iOS app that everybody loves, and it won in our reader polling for the best Mac productivity app of 2011. Evernote (free) pulled in nearly a third (31.3 percent) of the votes from TUAW readers, topping second place winner OmniFocus ($79.99) which had 23.3 percent of the votes.

T-Mobile rolls iPhone-friendly 3G as part of 84Mbps upgrade

Multiple reports have emerged of T-Mobile switching on 3G for frequencies that existing unlocked iPhones and other devices can use. At least some parts of Nevada and some parts of Northern California and the Northwest are seeing 1,900MHz repurposed to be used as additional carrying space for the HSPA+ 84Mbps network anticipated for 2012. Those who live in the altered areas are seeing speeds faster not just than they would on EDGE but faster than AT&T's real-world 3G, at 7.92Mbps down and 1.8Mbps up.

PS Vita launches in Japan to thousands in lines

Sony had an upbeat launch for the PlayStation Vita in its home country of Japan. The 7AM launch saw thousands in line with volumes closer to that of an Apple launch, including 600 at Yodobashi Camera in Tokyo's Akihabara district and 300 at Bic Camera in the Ikebukuro district. At the official event at Shibuya Tsutaya, where Sony executives including company president Kaz Hirai were hosts, the first buyer was an unidentified 33 year old northerner.

U.S. ITC decision on Microsoft v. Motorola Mobility delayed

U.S. International Trade Commission Judge Theodore Essex has delayed his ruling for another four days in the high-stakes trial between Microsoft and Motorola Mobility. The new date for a decision, which was due today, is December 20th. Time Warner finally cuts a deal for HBO Go streaming, launches 'in the next month'

Judge dismisses seven-year Novell lawsuit against Microsoft

Judge J. Frederick Motz on Friday dismissed a longstanding Novell lawsuit against Microsoft. The antitrust complaint, filed in 2004, was tossed after a jury couldn't reach a uniform verdict on whether or not Microsoft had abused its market lead by changing code that broke WordPerfect's Windows 95 support just before the 16-year-old OS arrived. Jurors said they were "hopelessly deadlocked" and didn't see any extensions of deliberations solving the problem.

An administrative law judge at the International Trade Commission said on Friday that it would review one of the patent findings in its determination that Apple didn't violate HTC patents. Walter Isaacson reportedly to expand Jobs biography

Steve Jobs biographer Walter Isaacson spoke recently at a meeting hosted by the Commonwealth Club of California, and said that he very likely will add an addendum to the already 630-page biography of Apple's co-founder. "This is the first or second draft" of the book, he reportedly said. "It's not the final draft." One obvious place the book could expand, according to Isaacson, is on the period after Jobs' death earlier this year, and the response around the country and the world from nearly everyone associated with Apple. Isaacson also says he's thinking about doing a more annotated version, including more details on the life Jobs shared with Isaacson over the last few years.

Apple's mystery updated iOS 5.0.1 build is now known to fix a problem with iPhone 4S hardware claiming the SIM card is missing or invalid. A support document shows that those reporting the issue are being asked to restore the phone to force downloading the new build.
