Europe's first solar powered train tunnel goes live on Belgian high-speed line (video)
The train ride from Paris to Amsterdam may not be the most scenic of European railway routes, but it's the only one capable of harnessing the awesome power of the Sun -- for two miles, at least. Yesterday, engineers in Belgium officially switched on Europe's first solar-powered train tunnel, spanning a 2.1-mile stretch of the rail line connecting the City of Lights to Mokum. The installation's 16,000 solar panels will be used to provide 50 percent of the energy needed to power nearby Antwerp Central Station and to provide extra juice for both high-speed and traditional trains. Nintendo shows full Wii U, says it won't rival the iPad
Nintendo in the aftermath of its E3 2011 keynote showed the full Wii U console. The controller is the centerpiece, with its 6.2-inch touchscreen, dual analog stick, front camera, gyro sensors, and rumble support. Afterwards, however, we saw that the main system is slightly larger, if more polished-looking, than the original Wii and still has an optical drive as well as a "sync" button, presumably to make sure the wireless controller is properly in step its home base.

Why didn't we see a Nuance announcement during WWDC?
One major rumor missing from the WWDC keynote yesterday was voice control. It was just last year that Apple purchased Siri, a popular voice companion app for iOS. Apple was also rumored to be working with Nuance to offer some form of voice control in its software.
References to Nuance were recently spotted in a developer version of Mac OS X Lion and sources claim Nuance software is running at Apple's North Carolina data center. Even the Chief Mobile Technology Architect at Nuance was

Apple veröffentlicht OS X Lion Developer Preview 4, iOS 5 Beta 1 & Mehr
Nachdem gestern auf der WWDC eine Reihe neuer Produkte vorgestellt wurden, kamen später dann einige Software-Versionen für registrierte Entwickler heraus. Los ging’s mit OS X Lion Developer Preview 4 mit der Build-Nummer 11A480b. In dieser Version kamen große Teile von Find My Mac hinzu, welche den Service benutzbar machen. Nun kann man gestohlene oder verlorene Macs, wie auch iOS-Geräte, finden, sperren, eine Nachricht oder einen Ton senden oder die Festplatte leeren. Hat man Find My Mac eingeschaltet, so können Gast-Benutzer nur Safari nutzen. So kann die IP-Adresse des Gerätes herausgefunden werden. Somit kann man dann den Mac aus der Ferne sperren. Japan scores official Bluetooth PS3 keyboard for ¥5,000
Yesterday, Sony took the wraps off a PlayStation-branded 3D TV and gave us our first serious look at the Vita, but our friends across that big wet thing we call the Pacific scored an extra little hardware goody -- an official PS3 keyboard. Ist das iPhone oder iPad einmal verloren ist die Trauer groß. Hätte man es doch nicht so offen in der Tasche getragen. Apple macht Räubern mit "Mein iPhone suchen" einen Strich durch die Rechnung. Einmal installiert, wird das iPhone auf Wunsch geortet. Diese Ortungsinformation kann über die MobileMe-Website abgerufen werden und zeigt auf Wunsch sogar mehrere Geräte an; Unterstützt werden das iPad, iPhone und der iPod touch (wobei es für diesen keinen Sinn macht, denn er hat kein mobiles Internet, was aber Vorraussetzung ist).Ebenfalls lässt sich aus der Ferne eine Nachricht auf dem verlorenen Gerät anzeigen, beispielsweise um dem Finder die nötigen Kontaktinformationen des Finders zu übermitteln. Source: Siri tech wasn't ready in time for WWDC
The fact that Apple didn't announce anything using Nuance or Siri technology at yesterday's WWDC keynote is simply because Siri integration wasn't finished in time, according to a source quoted by Robert Scoble. Apple was forecast to use the combination of Nuance and Siri's tech to provide more complex voice functions in iOS 5, such as searching for reservations at a nearby restaurant. iOS devices currently support just a limited number of commands, related to phone calls and music playback.

Walmart clearing off shelf space for $599 HP TouchPad?
Hey now, what's this? Looks like Walmart has made some space on its crowded shelves for the HP TouchPad. An eagle-eyed tipster sent in a shot from his local Wally World of a tag and some room just waiting to be filled up with the planet's first webOS slate. It's always possible that someone's just throwing out their latest Photoshop masterpiece, but the $599 mark certainly has an air of legitimacy (and matches what we saw, back in May). Piictu puts the fun into iOS picture sharing
What? Another iOS photo sharing app? No, wait, keep reading! The just-released Piictu app (official site, iTunes) has some new tricks to show you.

iBooks 1.3 + iTunes 10.3 veröffentlicht - Bereit für die Cloud
Wie bereits gestern in der Eröffnungskeynote der WWDC angekündigt, wurde nun ein Update von iBooks auf Version 1.3 und ein Update von iTunes auf Version 10.3 veröffentlicht.iTunes 10.3 bietet iCloud Unterstützung; iTunes-Käufe können auf allen Geräten jederzeit kostenlos erneut geladen werden. Musik, die auf einem Gerät gekauft wird, wird Over-The-Cloud auf alle Geräte übertragen. Da iCloud und iOS 5 bisher nur für Entwickler zugänglich sind und erst im Herbst veröffentlicht werden, wird dieses Feature in iTunes erstmal niemanden interessieren.Es hat sich aber auch was an der Öberfläche von iTunes getan. RSA offering SecurID replacements following Lockheed Martin attack
We'd already had a pretty clear indication that information obtained in the massive RSA hack back in March was used in the attack on Lockheed Martin last month, and RSA has now confirmed that itself for the first time. What's more, Executive Chairman Art Coviello has also announced that the company is willing to provide security monitoring services to those concerned, and even replace existing SecurIDs free of charge for "virtually every customer" it has. Apple blocks changes to MobileMe email in iCloud transition
MobileMe email aliases must remain static until the fall, an Apple support document states. Until that time, aliases can no longer be added or deleted, set as active or inactive, or even have their colors or descriptions changed. Although actually sending and receiving email continues to work, the ability to modify the aliases will only be restored once MobileMe users start migrating to iCloud in the fall.

iOS 5 hints at iPhone, iPad updates
TUAW sources inspecting the USB device files in yet-unreleased iOS 5 firmware have discovered suggestions of two future iPad 3 models as well as a pair of iPhone 5 models. What's most surprising is a big omission: no mention of an iPod touch 5.
Specifically, there are declarations buried in the iOS system files that reference "iPad3,1" and "iPad3,2." Likewise, "iPhone4,1" and "iPhone4,2." The iPhone 5 will be a 4th generation unit because the iPhone 3G was technically 1st generation. This throws off the numbering and confuses everyone, so don't fret if you were confused.
Interestingly, there are no mentions of a new iPod touch. If there really is no iPod touch 5 ready to launch in September (the typical iPod refresh time), sources believe it could be bec

Carousel from Mobelux isn't the first Instagram client for the Mac, but it is one of the most elegant. The program culls your Instagram feed and streams these images to your desktop in a gorgeous UI that resembles an old-fashioned photo album.
Three buttons along the bottom toggle your view among current favorites, your feed and your photos. On each image, you select a person's avatar to see their profile, like the image by clicking on a heart or add a comment by clicking on the word bubble. You can save images by dragging them to iPhoto or saving through the drop-down menu.

Safari 5.1 Developer Preview for Mac and Windows seeded to developers
In addition to developer previews of iOS 5 and Lion, Apple has seeded the developer preview of Safari 5.1 to Mac and Windows developers. According to Apple's Developer website, Safari 5.1 Developer Preview takes "advantage of new technologies, including support for full-screen webpages, media caching with the HTML5 application cache, and better graphics acceleration on Windows."

OmniVision, Avago reported iPhone 5 parts suppliers
A rumor from Digitimes suggests Apple is tapping Omnivision for CMOS image sensors and Avago Technologies for power amplifiers (PA) to be used in the iPhone 5. Omnivision will be the main supplier for 8-megapixel camera sensors, with Sony picking up any slack. Avago will supply two-thirds of the PAs while long-time supplier TriQuint Semiconductor will supply the rest.
This is good news for the suppliers involved as they will likely see a boost in revenue due to the expected staggering demand for the iPhone 5. This is even better news for Apple fans as it suggests production of the iPhone 5 is moving along smoothly. Yes, it may be slower than some prefer, but it's possible Apple may still hit that rumored

Verizon iPhone not ready for iCloud sneak peek
When Apple announced iCloud yesterday, there was the usual excitement over a new Apple service, but sadly said service wouldn't be rolling out until the fall. However, Apple also announced an iCloud sneak peak via iTunes 10.3 and iOS 4.3.3 which allows users to download past purchases and try out automatic downloads. Sadly though, Verizon iPhone users have been left out in the cold.

Toshiba Thrive hands-on
Toshiba didn't exactly jump into the tablet market head first, but now that it's come clean with the Thrive, its first pad for the US market, it's wasting no time -- we just got some hands-on with the 10.1-inch, Android 3.1-powered slate -- which, by the by, is the first that we know of to sport a removable battery. Nintendo Wii U console eyes-on
Sadly we weren't able to get our hands-on the new console that's going to come along with the Wii U controller. Every operational unit is clad in shimmering Lucite and locked away. But, from what we can see peering through the glass it's more or less a curvaceous Wii. It's a little bit chubbier, maybe a hint taller, but the design is much the same: glossy white and a big disc slot. Nintendo definitely isn't giving up on physical distribution for this round. We've seen some confounding cases in the past, but Wekreat's Bento for iPad 2 ($130) is certainly towards the top of the list. Apple updates iBooks app with 'read aloud' feature
Apple has updated iBooks to version 1.3. According to the product description page, the update adds several new features and improvements including improved responsiveness and autoplay of video or audio in enhanced books. Plus, it addressesO an issue where some books displayed the same page twice. However, the big new feature of iBooks 1.3 is the ability for select children's books to be read aloud:
"Help your children learn to read with the new read-aloud feature included in select children's books from the iBookstore. The read-aloud feature uses a real narrator to read the book to you, and in some books, it will even highlight the words as you read along."

IBM puts Watson's brains in Nintendo Wii U
Nintendo's new console, the Wii U, was finally unveiled to the world today at E3 2011, and we got a glimpse of its graphical prowess at the company's keynote. iBooks 1.3 brings read-aloud, auto-play options
Apple has released iBooks 1.3, an update of its reading app for iOS devices. The main feature of the upgrade is a "read-aloud" option, which on supporting books will let readers hear a narrator, and in some cases see words highlighted as the speech progresses. Similarly books can now automatically play audio or video, which should diminish the need for dedicated apps in the App Store unless a title requires interactive elements.

Windows XP users will be lost in the iCloud
It's a subtle change but an important one: Apple's published Windows system requirements for iCloud are a bit different than they are for MobileMe and the current version of iTunes. Per the company's press release:
Using iCloud with a PC requires Windows Vista or Windows 7; Outlook 2010 or 2007 is recommended for accessing contacts and calendars.

Nintendo Wii U controller, first hands-on!
We just elbowed our way through the crowds and managed to get our first hands-on time with Nintendo's revolutionary new controller, the Wii U. As you can see in the images, it's a rather different thing than even the company's typically unusually styled contraptions. The dominant feature is the center-mounted 6.2-inch touchscreen, which actually looks really good. Financial Times uses HTML5 site to bypass App Store
Influential business publication the Financial Times has launched an overhauled HTML5 web app designed explicitly for iPads, iPhones and iPod touches. The interface adjusts to the specific size of a device on the fly, and should run faster than a previous FT web app. The design notably follows Apple look-and-feel standards, and allows for offline reading of the latest issue.

Motorola clarifies position on Android apps, is still cool with developer community
Being an outspoken executive often involves a steady diet of crow. So, when Sanjay Jha seemingly threw Android developers under the proverbial bus with last week's comments, it seemed only a matter of time before the backtracking commenced. Motorola has fittingly issued a clarification on the CEO's statement, explaining that Jha didn't mean to suggest that apps were at fault for 70-percent of returns. How to burn a Lion boot disc
Mac OS X Lion will debut in July and this handy set of instructions from Egg Freckles will let you create a boot disc for installation. OS X Lion will be distributed via the Mac App Store and you can download the installer files to your hard drive. Once you have the installer files, follow these steps to create your very own boot disc:
Use Finder to locate the Mac OS X Lion installer, right-click and select "Show Package Contents"
Find the SharedSupport folder and look for a file names "InstallESD.dmg". This is the Lion Boot Disc image.
Copy the "InstallESD.dmg" file to another folder such as your desktop.

Financial Times launches HTML5 web app
The Financial Times is turning towards HTML5 for its upcoming application (technically, a web app), in contrast to its older native iOS app. FT was not happy with the new subscription model offered by Apple, and was working with Apple to keep the revenue and demographic information from its 590,000 website subscribers. These negotiations must have been rocky as the Financial Times is now releasing a web-based application instead of a platform-specific application.

Den Eindhovener Designern Joon&Jung verdanken wir bereits den Wecker aus Altpapier, jetzt legen die Jungs mit Lautsprechern nach: Die "Natural Speaker" basieren auf einem Porzelangehäuse, unter dem ein Holzstapel fixiert wird - mittels Lederbändern. The bad news is that the RED Scarlet is a still a prototype two and a half years after it was announced. The good news is that the folks at RED have shot some stunning test footage with the 8x fixed lens version to show off the Scarlet's prowess at 120 frames per second. Remember, every one of those frames is a 3072 x 1620 RAW masterpiece -- and while the video after the break obviously can't deliver that resolution, it can nevertheless give you a feel for the slow-mo power of this thing. Wir vermuten dann mal: dass der Künstler und Designer Andrew Schneider sich gerade hochgradig vergnügt ins Fäustchen lacht, weil alle Boulevard-Welt auf seinen "Solar Bikini" abfährt. Ist ja auch eine feine Sache: fast nichts an und trotzdem Strom für den MP3-Player am Start. Wahnsinn. Sieht nicht nur äußerst beknackt aus, sondern ist wohl auch der einzige Bikini, der nach mehr Stoff schreit, um seiner Aufgabe gerecht zu werden. Angeblich kann man den Ulk für 200 Dollar aka 140 Euro bei Schneider bestellen, aber auch das könnte Teil der Inszenierung sein.

iOS 5 jailbroken already
iOS 5 has been jailbroken within 24 hours of its debut in the iOS dev center. According to iOS hacker MuscleNerd, the exploit uses limera1n and is a tethered boot on the iPod touch fourth generation at this time. Cydia installs fine and seems to work without issue. This achievement is good news for devs who are rocking iOS 5 and those looking forward to the release version of iOS which should land this fall.

Dabei ist das Prinzip nicht ganz blöd, insbesondere wenn im Kaufpreis ab 32,58 Euro auch noch zwei Wechselakkus enthalten sind. OmniVision lands 90% of iPhone 5's 8MP camera orders
Talk of Sony pitching in to make eight-megapixel cameras for the iPhone 5 was at once validated and upturned by purported details from the supply chain. OmniVision would still make the CMOS-based sensor and would be responsible for 90 percent of production, but 10 percent would come from Sony. The orders Digitimes was told about would be large enough that OmniVision's contract chip manufacturer, the already large TSMC, would be boosting its wafer production by 40 percent between spring and summer.

iTunes 10.3 goes live for Mac, Windows
Apple has finally released iTunes 10.3, which was initially intended to go live yesterday. As expected the software mainly introduces support for iTunes in the Cloud, which automatically pushes purchased apps, books and music to all devices signed in with a given Apple ID. If a device doesn't have the content synced automatically, an option to download purchases is available, assuming necessary material is still hosted at the iTunes Store.

Änderungen beim Wechsel von MobileMe zu iCloud
Apples Internet-Dienste werden diesen Herbst ihrem vierten Namenswechsel unterzogen. Zuerst hiessen die Dienste iTools (2000-2002), dann .Mac (2002-2008) und seit 2008 kennt man sie unter dem Namen MobileMe. Natürlich ändert im Herbst nicht nur der Name in «iCloud», sondern dahinter steht auch eine neue Strategie (mehr dazu im iCloud-Artikel). Der anstehende Wechsel von MobileMe zu iCloud wirft aber bei vielen MobileMe-Kunden Fragen auf. Apple informiert unter anderem in einem KnowledgeBase-Artikel über die Änderungen. E3 2011: Microsoft bringt Xbox-360-Funklenkrad für haptische Hektiker
Microsoft hat auf der Electronic Entertainment Expo in Los Angeles das Funklenkrad "Wireless Speed Wheel" für die Xbox 360 vorgestellt, das in den USA im Oktober für rund 60 Dollar zu haben sein wird. Skype goes down across Europe, Microsoft starts wondering if it bought wisely
Uh oh, Skype's experiencing its second big outage in the space of just a couple of weeks, as we're hearing reports from the UK, Netherlands, and yes, even Bulgaria, claiming the online communications service is down. Our own Skype clients are currently unable to move past the "Connecting" status note, both on Mac OS X and Windows 7. While we've confirmed it in Europe, the issue seems to be affecting people all over the world. Nonetheless, Skype believes only "a small number" of us have been hampered by whatever's ailing it, and further details should be available soon.

Nintendo 3DS bekommt ein Firmware-Update (Video)

Kurz vor dem E3-Auftritt von Nintendo hat es gestern noch ein Update für die 3DS gegeben. Neben einem Browser und dem eigenen eShop gibt es für kurze Zeit auch eine 3D-Version des NES-Klassikers Excitebike umsonst dazu. Wir sind gespannt auf Nintendos E3-Keynote, auf der in ein paar Stunden unter anderem die neue Wii vorgestellt werden soll, es aber auch ein paar 3DS-News geben soll. Hacker veröffentlichen große Mengen Quellcode von Sony
Die Hackergruppe "LulzSec" hat nach eigenen Angaben 54 MByte Quellcode veröffentlicht, der aus dem Sony Computer Entertainment Developer Network stammen soll. Q1 2011 report: Apple market share up, reliability down
RescueCom has released its first Computer Reliability Report for 2011. First quarter 2011 results showed Apple gaining market share, surging 26 percent to a 9.7 percent share -- mostly at the expense of Dell Computers. iTunes 10.3 is now live
iTunes 10.3 is now available for download through Apple's site. We haven't seen it appear in Software Update as of yet, but it should be there shortly.

Sony, Toshiba, may unite on making phone, tablet displays
Sony and Toshiba are looking to make a combined display manufacturing unit that would focus on smartphones and tablets, Japanese sources claimed early Tuesday [sub. required]. Apple's iMessage may have caught carriers off-guard
The announcement of Apple's new iMessage service in iOS 5, which allows mobile device users to send MMS-like messages to each other for free, may have come as a surprise to wireless carriers, according to Daring Fireball's John Gruber and other sources. First Look: Mac OS X Lion Server
Mentioned earlier today as part of the overall announcements at WWDC, Apple will be releasing Mac OS X Lion Server as well as the client edition through the Mac App Store in July. The Server version contains extra features not found in the standard release, including iCal, Mail and Wiki servers, Xsan support, iPad file sharing, push notifications and more. Individual licenses will be sold for $49, a $19 premium over the price of the client edition.

Pe Lang's Positioning Systems, from his Falling Objects collection, is bit of a curiosity -- it's a work of art that's equal parts printer and science experiment. A machine squeezes single drops of water onto an omniphobic surface, creating a 21 x 21 grid of tightly packed, but isolated beads of agua (that's 441 moist little spheres, for those of you keeping count). Sony makes PlayStation Vita official at a low $250 price
Sony at its E3 keynote set out its ambition to topple both Apple and Nintendo in the mobile gaming arena and formally unveiled the NGP as the PlayStation Vita. The handheld is much like what was shown in Japan and centers on a large five-inch OLED touchscreen braced by dual analog sticks, front and back touchpads, and both front and back cameras. American Vita owners will get AT&T as the 3G partner as well as access to over 20,000 free Wi-Fi hotspots.

Mac OS X Lion was WWDC's most expensive product - at $29.99
Our own Dave Caolo pointed out something that took the rest of the TUAW team aback: at US$29.99, Mac OS X Lion was the most expensive product discussed at WWDC today. It's not as though the next version of the Mac's operating system had a lot of pricing competition at the keynote. iOS 5 will be a free upgrade to users with supported hardware, and iCloud's services -- which used to cost $99/year under MobileMe -- are all completely free. Die NGP heisst ab heute PSVita: Sony hat auf seiner Keynote heute nacht seine neue Handheldkonsole vorgestellt. Die PlayStation Vita kommt mit einem Touchpad auf der Rückseite, Bewegungssensor mit sechs Achsen, zwei Analogsticks, einem OLED-Touchscreen und Kameras für beide Seiten. Die WiFi-Variante kostet 249, die 3G-Variante 299 Euro. Zu sehen waren schon ein paar neue Games wie Uncharted: Golden Abyss, LittleBigPlanet und Street Fighter x Tekken, die allesamt reichlich und ausgiebig Gebrauch vom Bewegungssensor und den Touchfeatures machen.

Sony sells 70 million PSP units worldwide, still firmly in DS' rearview mirror

Details about Sony's new handheld have been trickling out for months in the form of spec sheets and fantastic footage of its quad core capabilities. But we didn't know how much it would cost or when we could get our grubby paws on one, and now we know: $249 for WiFi, or $299 for the 3G model, which Sony's Kaz Hirai confirmed will be available exclusively through AT&T, with both models shipping worldwide in toward the end of 2011. Apple has added the iBookstore to iTunes. The way it looks and works will be immediately familiar to anyone who's made an iTunes purchase. Featured books appear at the top along with a list of New and Notable releases and charts.

If Lion is your future, make sure Snow Leopard is your present
As we mentioned in our what Mac owners need to know after today's WWDC announcements roundup, Snow Leopard (Mac OS X 10.6) will be required for Lion.
If you are using Leopard (10.5) or less, you must first upgrade to Snow Leopard.
Amazon shows it backordered 2-5 weeks, (available from some 3rd parties), but the online Apple Store has it for $29USD plus shipping. Note that if you are running a version of Mac OS X before 10.5, you should buy the $129 Mac Box Set

Apple releases iTunes, Apple TV, XCode betas, iOS5 warning
As part of a slew of new developer software to accompany today's introduction of iOS 5, Apple has issued a warning that once installed, devices running the iOS 5 beta can only be upgraded to later betas and the final version, and cannot be downgraded back to earlier versions, according to a report from AppleInsider. The company has also issued a beta for iTunes 10.5, expected to accompany the release of Lion, a new developer preview of XCode 4.2, and Apple TV 2 software, which will improve Airplay support with iPad 2s.

Sony's PS3 claims the lead in Netflix streaming, adds VOD from Best Buy's CinemaNow
Sony planned the PlayStation 3 from the start as a movie playing powerhouse, but it may not have predicted so many would end up using it for Netflix streaming. CEO Jack Tretton just hit the stage at the company's E3 keynote to announce it is the leading Netflix streamer, accounting for 30% of the video watched on the service. Safari gets 5.1 preview, adds full-screen API, more
Apple has released to developers a preview of Safari 5.1, which is expected to accompany the release of Lion and offers media caching for audio and video data, new "sandboxing" for the rendering process and for plug-ins, the expected full-screen mode and support for better keyboard control, AppleInsider reports. It also adds a new architecture for extensions, making them more powerful and customizable, and enhances support for CSS3 and other web formats.

If you install iOS 5, you can't go back
We knew the pre-release builds for iOS 5 would be issued to the developer community today, but AppleInsider warns that this comes with a caveat. Apple has apparently told testers of iOS 5 that any devices updated to that beta cannot be downgraded back to iOS 4. They will only be able to further upgrade their device and eventually install the final iOS 5 release.

Waiting for a taste of the iCloud? Check your iPhone
The waiting, a great man once said, is the hardest part. Dev Center posts Lion Preview 4, iOS 5 beta seeds for devs
Apple's Dev Center has posted the preview and beta releases talked about at this morning's WWDC keynote, including the fourth preview of Lion and new beta seeds for iOS 5 development as well as a beta for iCloud integration in apps. Mozilla's Webian Shell interface will cloak your OS in a browser (video)
With Google's fleet of Chromebooks making their way to market, Mozilla has decided to release a similarly browser-based desktop interface, known as the Webian Shell. As of now, the prototype app consists of a screen-encompassing web browser, which essentially replaces your desktop interface. What iOS 5 owes to jailbreak developers
There are a lot of apps that will be replaced -- or at least have some very heavy competition -- from the new features in iOS 5. It's easy to look around the App Store and see developers that have been 'Sherlocked' by Apple's inclusion of their functionality in the core OS; Twitter clients in particular are going to have a hard road ahead, and no-frills reminder apps are pretty much done for.

Apple removes 15-minute restrictions for in-app purchases
Apple has changed its iTunes terms of service, once again switching the restrictions regarding multiple in-app purchases placed within a15-minute time period. The company initially provided a 15-minute span for making subsequent purchases without requiring users to reenter authentication information. The window was eliminated in March, however the new terms, which arrived alongside iTunes 10.3, revert to the original rules.

FCC grills Verizon, others for info in AT&T T-Mobile deal
The FCC on Monday sent out a request (PDF) to carriers asking them for information to help its investigation into the AT&T and T-Mobile deal. Verizon, Sprint, and regional carriers like Cellular South and US Cellular were all asked to provide responses to the deal and supporting evidence. Each got the same nine questions relating to coverage, cell site ownership, expansion, relationships with AT&T, their future spectrum plans, billing, and competitive reports.

iOS 5 beta 1 is now available for download from Apple's developer site. You must be a paid $99/year developer to gain access to this beta. Sign in with your dev credentials to gain access.
The beta is, as always, released under the terms of Apple's NDA. For that reason, exploration of new APIs and features are left as an exercise for the reader.
To access the new beta, you must sign an updated developer agreement. The site is a bit glitchy right now so be patient.

Automatic Downloads now live for iOS devices
WWDC has just kicked off for 2011, but you can get a little bit of the Apple iCloud newness right now in the form of automatic Application, Music and Book downloads.
Launch Settings on your iPhone, iPod touch or iPad, scroll down to Store and wait for the new options to load (you'll need to be connected to the Internet to see them). Once you've checked them, the next time you purchase or download an app, a music track or a book, it'll automatically be pushed out to any device you've activated Automatic Downloads on. Brilliant.
Be warned though, if you activate Automatic Downloads for one Apple ID on a device and then attempt to activate another Apple ID on the same device (US and UK iTunes accounts for instance), you'll ge

Über die Apple Developer Connection steht ab sofort die vierte Entwicklerversion von Mac OS X 10.7 Lion zum Download bereit.
