First rule of Facebook: Don't quote Fight Club
Have you heard the story of Joe Lipari? In September 2009, Lipari visited an Apple Store trying to get help for an iPhone issue. He claimed he received no assistance, so he went home and posted to Facebook: "Joe Lipari might walk into an Apple store on Fifth Avenue with an Armalite AR-10 gas powered semi-automatic weapon and pump round after round into one of those smug, fruity little concierges," a paraphrased quote from Fight Club.

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX100V gets reviewed, deemed one of the best super-zooms around
Sony's Cyber-shot DSC-HX100V been available for a little while now, but it's flown somewhat under the radar when it comes to in-depth reviews. Java for Mac OS X 10.6 has just been updated to Update 5, and a visit to Software Update will bring the latest and greatest version of Java to your Mac. If you're still using Leopard, Java for Mac OS X 10.5 is now at Update 10.

SureFire's UB3T Invictus flashlight is super-bright, not quite incendiary
SureFire first announced its blindingly UB3T Invictus torch back in 2010, but it took until now for the company to get its 800-lumen flashlight out the door. As a point of comparison, the massive (almost as good a weapon as light) six D battery MagLite only spits out about 160 lumens -- so, yeah, the Invictus is pretty dang bright. Of course, pumping out that much illumination takes quite a toll on the three 123A cells inside its military-grade aluminum body. Apple's Asia-Pacific profits reportedly soaring
Apple might be growing in the US thanks to brisk sales of the MacBook Air and the expansion of the iPhone 4 to Verizon Wireless, but in Asia-Pacific, the Cupertino company is exploding. Over the past five years, Apple's revenue has climbed from US$14 billion in 2005 to $64 billion in 2010. During that time, international revenue grew a staggering 727%, while US revenue grew 268%. Profit showed a similar trend with Asia-Pacific increasing by a whopping 2,991% in the last five years. US profit also grew, but only at a comparatively small rate of 682%.

Apple vs. Jailbreaker: Kampf geht in die nächste Runde
Das Katz-und-Maus-Spiel zwischen Apple und Jailbreakern geht, erwartungsgemäß, weiter. Mit iOS 5 möchte Apple verhindern, dass man eine ältere Firmware auf iPhone oder iPad spielen kann, um im Falle eines “versehentlichen” Updates zurück zu einer jailbreakbaren Version zu kommen.

Our first encounter with Nokia's N9 may have been eleven different kinds of awesome, but we knew it was a mere scratch of the high-grade polycarbonate surface. We don't know what your daily grind is like, but we're constantly warding off the ever-present threat of industrial espionage. For whatever reason, here's something we've yet to try: the ordinary household biscuit tin. Word has is that the thin, metal baked goods holder is great for keeping the eyes of potential saboteurs away from your secret-storing mobile devices. AFP is reporting that executives at a German chemical company have begun carrying their phones around in the boxes to protect them from the sorts of electromagnetic radiation used to steal valuable information from the handsets. LG's DM50D HDTV promotes a passive 3D lifestyle
LG is talking up its forthcoming DM50D 3D HDTV -- not a lot, mind you, but just enough to get us interested. The company offered up a largely spec-free press release on the forthcoming set, heralding the adoption of passive 3D glasses, "Flicker Free" capabilities borrowed from its Cinema 3D TV line, and double the brightness of conventional 3D sets. The display has a built-in DTV turner, HDMI capabilities for connecting with 3D-capable consoles and the like, and the ability to view images and videos directly from a USB flash drive. Google to face €295 million French lawsuit over alleged anti-competitive practices
Google's legal woes are piling up in a hurry. French search engine 1PlusV is suing El Goog over alleged anti-competitive practices, less than a week after the Federal Trade Commission opened a formal inquiry into similar accusations levied stateside. Skipping Stone is a new title from Gamevil for the iPhone that's about as simple as it gets. You play a rock (excited yet) that is skipping along a stretch of water, and your job is to tap along on the screen to keep the rock going for as long as possible. It's very simple (and can get repetitive, if you happen to have the somewhat manic music up), but like the superior Tiny Wings, it's strangely compelling anyway. Not only are you jumping the rock at a certain rhythm, but various sea creatures will also come along and mix things up a bit, so you might have to tap more quickly or wait for more time to pass.

XBLA developer Twisted Pixel aiming for iOS
Touch Arcade recently chatted with the CEO of developer Twisted Pixel Michael Wilford. Twisted Pixel is the group behind Xbox Live Arcade hits like The Maw and Splosion Man, the latter of which was the "influence" for Capcom's "MaXplosion." Touch Arcade asked about iOS development, and Wilford first said the Capcom incident had "lit a fire under our butts" to try to make an iOS game. He then confirmed that Twisted Pixel is "working on something" for Apple's platform.

As far as sports go, the one where you drive cars around in circles several times is likely not one of the most energy efficient. With that in mind, it's nice to see locations like Northern California's Infineon Raceway working toward sustainability, announcing this week the installation of more than 1,600 solar panels. Tiny Tower picks up a million downloads in four days
Developer Ian Marsh of NimbleBit has been sharing some interesting facts and figures on Twitter about his new app Tiny Tower. Perhaps the most impressive overall is that the pixelated freemium tower simulation game has already gained a million players, despite only being on the App Store for four days. There's a large amount of engagement with these users as well; Marsh has also tweeted that each user is logging in for a number of different sessions during the day (the game encourages you to come back often to re-stock the various stores in your tower). Here's a look at ProtoTap from SeriousApps. Designed to facilitate designing apps for clients, ProtoTap looks like a relatively painless way to get your clients clicking around in a prototype without having to mess with a million emails. ProtoTap isn't available yet, and is still in beta testing.

Das hier sieht schwer nach einem absichtlichen Leak aus: NVIDIA hat für heute ja schon angekündigt, dass sie News zu präsentieren haben, gestern abend tauchte dann dieses Video auf. Zu sehen gibt es zwei GPUs auf denen Crysis 2 im SLI-Modus läuft. Das Game läuft in der DirectX11 Version mit 1080p, Tesselation und mit den maximalen Settings und trotzdem ziemlich flüssig.
