ExoPC hacked to run Android 2.2, Microsoft sobs

Well, what do we have here? An ExoPC running Android 2.2? Oh yes, it's Microsoft's worst nightmare, and it has indeed been accomplished by one of ExoPC's devout forum members. The details in the forum thread are extremely sparse, but apparently ExoPC fan MrWilson has added a Froyo boot option to his 11.6-inch, Windows 7 ExoPC and has gotten both touch and WiFi working within the Google OS. TomTom adds Map Share so users can update their own maps

Here's a rather rather cool idea from the TomTom folks. An update available today to the TomTom iPhone nav apps (price varies depending on countries covered) allows you to edit the information on your maps and then submit those changes for others to access using what TomTom calls Map Share. This feature is also present on many dedicated TomTom GPS units. Map Share lets users edit street names, set driving directions, and block and unblock streets directly on the maps, and then share those changes with the TomTom community. Novatel's USB551L LTE modem for Verizon in the wild, does Mac support out of the box

How many dedicated LTE-capable USB modems does Verizon need? At least three, apparently, because we've just been sent shots of Novatel's upcoming USB551L that looks perhaps a tad glossier and sleeker than the Pantech and LG models that have preceded it. Hard to say from the spec sheet here, but it looks like there's at least a chance this is LTE-only without CDMA / EV-DO fallback since there's no explicit mention of it; unlikely considering how small Verizon's LTE footprint is for the time being, but you never know. Foursquare adds photos, comments to location check-ins

One thing that is sure to make my wife roll her eyes in disgust is when we're out somewhere and I check in to a venue using Foursquare. I enjoy using the Foursquare iPhone app to check in, gain or lose the mayorship of a location, and occasionally get one of those cool badges that they award to users (I'm particularly proud of my Jobs, I'm on a boat!, and JetSetter badges). The free app has just been updated and now adds two fun features -- adding photos and comments to check-ins. This is handy, since I currently have to use multiple apps to a) check in and b) send photos of delicious food to friends. So you're having a holiday party this week and want to throw in a little Apple flavor to the whole thing. Of all the things that the ol' boob tube does well, directing viewers to advertiser's websites is not one of them. iPad aids 25% increase in online computer sales

In a report released by comScore, a digital reporting firm, online computer hardware sales have increased by 25% this holiday season. Handheld computing devices like the iPad drove much of that growth, according the report. Our buddies over at Aldebaran Robotics in France, makers of the cute little Nao robot, have returned with a new elderly care robot, dubbed Romeo. The much larger humanoid stands 1.4 meters tall (a bit over four and half feet) in his gunmetal Speedo and weighs 40 kilograms (88 pounds). Palm Pre 2 taucht versehentlich kurz bei eBay auf

Ein kurzes Vergnügen war das Palm Pre 2 auf einer eBay-Auktion, das allerdings wieder aus der Versteigerung herausgenommen wurde. Ursprünglich wurde es als Palm Pre Plus angepriesen, anscheinend wusste der Verkäufer gar nicht um die Knappheit dieses Gerätes aus. Amazon offers refunds or replacements for problem-causing Kindle covers

It's not often you hear of a case causing technical problems with an electronic device, but that's just what a number users have been saying about Amazon's own Kindle Leather Cover. Apparently, the problem stems from the metal hooks used in the case -- they're designed to conduct electricity in the lighted version of the case, but in the non-lighted version they're reportedly causing Kindle's to freeze or reboot. Best Buy nixes restocking fees

With just five days left for Christmas shopping, Best Buy has enacted a most welcome plan to get you in the door -- effective immediately, it's abolished the infamous 15 percent restocking fee that the company traditionally charged for a wide variety of product returns. The Consumerist reports that computers, tablets, projectors, camcorders, digital cameras, radar detectors, GPS units, in-car video systems and audio equipment will no longer carry the fee, and that iPhones (which incurred a 10 percent restocking fee) are exempt as well. Only special orders will still carry the charge. What's more, the company will allegedly refund any such fees charged since November 17th. Bravo!

Heute stellt Adata die neue S501-SSD-Serie offiziell vor. Die Laufwerke mit 64 bis 256 GByte MLC-Speicher sollen bis zu 480 MB/s lesend und 310 MB/s schreibend erreichen. Natürlich kommt dabei SATA 6 GBit/s zum Einsatz sowie ein neuer Marvell-Controller und 128 MB DDR3-Cache.
