SmartPush iPhone app dead, reminds us apps are not forever

SmartPush was a neat iPhone app from a small startup, Syphir, which allowed the configuration of clever filters for Gmail push notifications. For example, the user could configure rules like "always send me a push notification for all emails from my wife," "don't send notifications between 11pm and 7am" or "don't sent me a notification if the email was sent to more than three people." A big update for id games' Rage: Mutant Bash TV (available in SD and HD versions for $0.99 and $1.99; the latter being for iPhone 4 and iPad) has appeared on iTunes overnight. News Corp's 'The Daily' pub to hit iPad in January?

We're assuming it would still prefer you use Internet Explorer for all your web browsing needs, but Microsoft is now lending something of a helping hand to Windows 7 users that insist on using Firefox for one reason or another. Hyundai Equus owner's manual now on App Store

What could be the future of all auto manuals arrived this fall with the Hyundai Equus, a luxury car that sells in the high $50,000s and included an electronic version of the owner's manual on a free iPad as part of the purchase price. Now, the manual is available as a free app in the App Store, where owners and non-owners alike can peruse all 1,100 pages, use an online map to find the nearest Hyundai dealer (and schedule service) and browse a gallery of Equus images.

DualEyes Standalone goes public beta

While today's iPhones and digital SLRs can capture high-quality video, their audio often leaves a lot to be desired. The usual solution to this problem is to record the audio separately, and then laboriously marry them back together in editing. Google firing two employees a month over leaks

Google has grown so concerned over leaks that it's now firing two employees a month, an investigation into its corporate structure has found. Possibly as a reaction to an exposure of its corporate culture, an average of two per month are being forced out. TechCrunch didn't detail what triggered many of the leaks although Google +1 and possibly Android-related slips are candidates given their frequency.

OpenFeint's promotional app now called Game Channel

Social gaming network OpenFeint has had its own app for a while now, offering up news and information for players playing games with the technology built-in. But the app recently underwent a re-branding of sorts -- it's now called Game Channel (not to be, or possibly to be, confused with Game Center), and is now built around a Groupon-style model. The app has offered up a Free App of the Day for a while now, but in addition to the freebies, it now also has a feature called "Fire Sale," in which players can "vote" for certain games to go on sale. Open source DARwIn-OP bot can be yours for just $12,000

A few weeks back we caught our first glimpse of the open source, modular DARwIn-OP developed at Virginia Tech's Robotics and Mechanisms Laboratory, also known as RoMeLa.
