Die Tüftler vom Laboratory 424 haben eine Papier-Adaption ihres Lieblings-Games für die Magnetwand gebastelt und das ganze fein säuberlich dokumnentiert, damit ihr es nachbasteln könnt: Das 3D Super Mario Papercraft Magnet Board ist natürlich weitgehend sinnfrei aber bestimmt auch sehr spaßig. Die Bastelbögen kommen aus dem Drucker und lassen sich weitgehend ohne Kleber zusammenbauen, nur zur Fixierung der Magnete braucht´s dann doch Uhu oder ähnliches.

New Mini DisplayPort video adapters from StarTech
All of Apple's new offerings in the Mac line use Mini DisplayPort to pump video out to other monitors or video displays. Whether it's an 11" MacBook Air, a fully-loaded Mac Pro (with two Mini DisplayPort outputs), or any of the machines in between, Apple has standardized on Mini DisplayPort for video output.
To connect to different types of displays, Apple also sells a number of video adapters through Apple retail stores and the online store. There are Apple-branded adapter cables for VGA, DVI, and Dual-link DVI, as well as a Moshi HDMI adapter. Now a new source of these adapters has hit the market.

Nokia research lab builds touchscreen made of ice
Chances are this is one research project that won't find its way into a phone, but Nokia's research lab in Tampere, Finland has come up with a rather unique new type of touchscreen display: one made of ice. Of course, there are a few other components involved -- namely, a projector and an array of near-infrared cameras that are connected to a PC -- but it is technically a multitouch display made of ice, and that's got to count for something. For Nokia's part, it says that while the project is a "playful experiment," it does show that "interactive computing interfaces can now be built anywhere." eMusic drops song credits, adds price tiers to fight iTunes
eMusic has quietly changed its pricing model to get major labels and more directly compete with Apple's iTunes and Amazon MP3. The deal drops eMusic's distinctive bulk song credits in favor of a variable price, pay per track model that finally adds wider access to major label music, including current music from Sony and Warner as well as year-old music from Universal. Most independent music will still cost the equivalent of the base song credit plan, at 49 cents per song, but will see major label songs sell for 69 to 89 cents.

WiFi-Jammer im Hosentaschenformat killt WLAN im 10-Meter-Radius

Vielleicht sind wir ja naiv, aber das ist tatsächlich der erste dezidierte WiFi-Jammer, der uns unterkommt. Das Teil von der Größe eines Smartphones soll WLAN-Frequenzen im Bereich zwischen 2,4 und 2,5 GHz in einem Radius von 10 Metern verhackstücken und somit unbrauchbar machen. Wo, wer sowas braucht und warum ist ein wenig rätselhaft, obwohl es in Berlin das eine oder andere Cafe gibt, dessen Laptop-zentrierte Kundschaft bestimmt interessante Gesichtsdiskos produziert, wenn plötzlich aber hierzulande sind Jammer natürlich sowieso schwer illegal. Bei Chinavasion ab 25,20 Euro zu haben.

LEGO Harry Potter available for iOS, but iPad requires 4.2
Warner Bros. has released the game LEGO Harry Potter: Years 1-4, and it's available as a universal download from the App Store for US$4.99. Gameplay includes going inside Hogwarts castle, the most detailed LEGO game location ever; the game provides 40+ levels of play along with endless freeplay to discover areas not accessible in Story Mode.

Space-Invaders-Toaster ist überfällig und ungesund

Jungdesigner Chris Naylor hat das Konzept für einen Space-Invaders-Toaster ausgetüftelt, von dem wir eigentlich dachten, dass es längst in Massenproduktion gegangen sei. Aber auch hartnäckiges Stöbern im Archiv brachte diesbezüglich keine Ergebnisse. Also höchste Zeit, dass diese Lücke geschlossen wird, allerdings sollte Chris den Prozess, mit dem ein Space Invader auf den Toast gebrannt werden soll, nochmal überdenken, so verkohlt wie im Bild ist es nämlich ungesund und schmeckt nicht.

Apple updates iTunes Connect Mobile for iPad
Apple has updated the iTunes Connect Mobile app to version 1.1. The app was first released in June of this year and allowed developers to view statistics about their products on the App Store right from their iPhone or iPod touch. Today's update brings universal support for all iOS devices, including the iPad. It also adds support for multitasking in iOS 4 and adds support for iBookstore providers.

N200, Nokeros lichtstarkes Update der wetterfesten, robusten LED-Solar-Birne
Erst im Juni hatte die in Hongkong ansäßige Firma Nokero ihre Solar-LED-Birne für Entwicklungsländer N100 vorgestellt, mit der ungesunde und gefährliche Kerosinfunzeln ersetzt werden sollen. Aber Nokero hält die Füße nicht still und hat jetzt die N200 vorgestellt: Angeblich genauso wetterfest und robust wie das erste Modell, dabei aber flexibler konstruiert (der Leuchtkörper lässt sich beispielsweise im Rahmen drehen) und vor allem deutlich lichtstärker (laut Nokero 60 Prozent im Vergleich zur N100). Bereits vor knapp zwei Wochen kamen erste Hinweise auf, dass Apple möglicherweise verschiedene Teilbereiche des Dienstes MobileMe den Nutzern kostenfrei zur Verfügung stellen könnte. iOS 4.2 GM hints at free MobileMe option
New code discovered in the iOS 4.2 and 4.2.1 gold master builds tonight has hinted that Apple may finally fulfill promises of free MobileMe services. A finding in a new AppleAccounts.framework section references error messages for a "maximum number of free accounts" for iPads, iPhones and iPods while also mentioning separate paid services. Deeper investigation by MacRumors has also found mention of an error that would allow an account access to syncing and likely most other services but which would prevent using MobileMe mail.

Sophos gathers reports from Mac users, warns of malware
Anti-virus software maker Sophos -- who recently introduced a free Mac Home Edition of their anti-malware program -- have gathered the statistics generated by their 150,000-strong Mac user base to compile a snapshot report on threats facing the platform. While the results tacitly admit the lack of actual Mac viruses and the low incidence of other Mac-specific malware, the company says the risk of Mac-specific or platform-independent non-virus malware -- and the need for detection software -- is growing.

It's not every day that a new HTC phone with CDMA and WiMAX support swings through the FCC's labs -- so even though we don't really know what this is, we thought we'd better point it out.
