AT&T, T-Mobile to have cell service in New York City subways

Efforts to install wireless in New York City subways gained a significant boost late on Friday as Transit Wireless said it had reached deals with AT&T and T-Mobile to provide cellphone access at subway stations. The two GSM carriers have a 10-year agreement to link their phones to Transit Wireless' network in a plan that will eventually reach all 277 terminals in the city. Either carrier will have the option of renewing its deals in five-year blocks for four instances, representative Pat Smith told Bloomberg.

Report of iTunes "virus" via e-mail called into question

An error in terminology in a report from Youngstown, Ohio's CBS television affiliate WKBN-TV has prompted untrue claims of an "iTunes virus" spreading through e-mail, on Facebook and around the web. The message, faked to look like it is from "do_not_reply@apple.com," claims the user owes money and offer links for the recipient to click to arrange payment on a website set up to look like iTunes. It's ultimately only a phishing e-mail and has no payload of its own.

Electronics maker Hercules has introduced its latest digital DJ console on Friday in the DJ Console 4-Mx. Each of its twin jog wheels sports a touch sensor, while its integrated audio interface easily connects to existing analog gear. Users can control two or four virtual decks. When we think about computer ergonomics, we usually look at how our monitor is positioned (is it an appropriate distance from our eyes?), where our keyboard is laid out (in a keyboard tray or on our desktop?), and if our chair height lets us keep our knees at a 90 degree angle. In other words, computer ergonomics has always been about hardware (ours and our machine's). It's never been about the software. That's got to change. I find myself using my iPad primarily in landscape mode. I do so because in landscape mode you can see most apps' menu items all the time (like a complete list of emails in my inbox laid out next to the message I'm currently viewing in the iPad's Mail app). This doesn't sound like a stunning statement: we get fancy new tech to play with all of the time, some of it stamped with the "green" moniker for better or worse. But the Recompute is just so far fetched: an entire desktop PC built with cardboard!
