Doom creator discusses experiences with Apple
id Software co-founder John Carmack has described working with Apple as a "rollercoaster ride" in a new interview, arguing that Apple executives are not happy with the increasing popularity of the iPhone and iPod touch as a gaming platform. Carmack -- responsible for Doom, Quake and other titles -- has spent several years working with Apple in order to get games such as Doom Classic onto the App Store.

Users encounter early Magic Mouse issues
In spite of the relative newness of the Magic Mouse, some complaints have begun emerging on Apple's support forums. Anticipated drag and swipe functions are sometimes said to be failing, leaving only regular click commands available. Apple eröffnet Store unter der Louvre-Pyramide und bringt die Mona Lisa aufs iPhone

Apple hat seinen ersten Store in Paris eröffnet. Selbstverständlich nicht irgendwo, sondern im Shopping Center "Carrousel du Louvre", welches in einem Gebäudeflügel von unten die Sicht auf die Louvre-Pyramide freigibt. Just dort scheint sich auch der neue Apple-Store zu befinden, denn in dem von der MacBidouille-Crew geschossenen Foto spiegelt sich die Pyramide im gläsernen Eingangsbereich des Stores (und der Apfel darf natürlich auch nicht fehlen). That's it we finally went out of the first Apple Store to open in France. In order to preserve security, people can only come in when others are laving the store. The authorities were estimating this morning about 6,000 people queuing in front of the Apple Store. In other words, while we are leaving, some might not even be able to enter the store before hours. Inflatable seat belts. At a glance, that doesn't seem like such a bad idea after all, particularly for those rear seat passengers who aren't blessed with two huge bags or air right in front of their chest. We're guessing the top brass at Ford feel pretty much the same way, as the outfit has just announced that these very devices will be making their debut in the next-generation Ford Explorer before rolling out across the fleet. Of course, Lexus is also planning to shove these into its ultra-luxurious LFA (which will probably make a grand total of 14 wealthy owners feel really, really safe), but it's tough to tell which vehicle will hit the showroom first. “Die Siedler” siedeln auf dem iPhone
Fans des Strategie-Klassikers “Die Siedler” werden sich freuen. Gameloft veröffentlicht wahrscheinlich noch in diesem Monat die iPhone Portierung zu diesem Kultspiel. Als Vorlage nahm man dabei die PC-Fassung von “Die Siedler 4″. Wie gut es dabei gelungen ist und ob das Spiel gegenüber dem Original stark minimiert wird, bleibt abzuwarten.

EnerDel enwickelt Hybrid-Humvees für die US-Armee

Die US-Armee hätte gerne unauffälligere Humvees (aka HMMWV für High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle). Ein schwieriges Unterfangen, da ein Humvee nun mal naturgemäß sehr gross und schwer ist. Trotzdem sollen sich die bulligen Vehikel in Zukunft dank Hybridbetrieb geisterhaft leise durchs Gelände bewegen und dabei weniger thermische Spuren hinterlassen. So ganz einleuchten will uns das Konzept des Webbooks von litl noch nicht: extrem reduziertes, auf das wichtigste eingedampftes Browsing und ein knickbarer Bildschirm, der Webseiten darstellen kann, so dass man sie sich bequem im Wohnzimmer ansehen kann. Hm. Und auch die technischen Daten sind aufs Nötigste reduziert, was man vom Preis nicht sagen kann: satte 699 Dollar (ca. 471 Euro). Safa Xing LED features MP3 playback, 27 pixel resolution
Safa is a Korean firm that has put out quite a few forgettable DAPs in its day, and while this one isn't going to win any awards for technological advancement, it does look like "fun," for whatever that's worth. The Xing LED is a none-too-shabby 12mm thin and boasts 12 hours of playback time on a single charge. The company fails to mention little things like storage capacity and file format support, but that ain't why we're here: the face of the device features 27 LEDs that can be either programed to display the icon of your choice or used for a rousing game of Rock / Paper / Scissors. Sort of makes that Zune HD of yours look like overkill, eh? Price and availability yet to be announced.

Gerücht: AT&T und Apple planen 8-GByte-Version des iPhone 3GS
Der US-Mobilfunkanbieter AT&T und Apple planen angeblich, das iPhone 3GS in einer Version mit 8 GByte auf den Markt zu bringen. Bislang ist das Gerät ausschließlich mit 16 und 32 GByte erhältlich. Die OpenOfficeMouse wurde von WarMouse () in Zusammenarbeit mit dem freien Office-Paket OpenOffice.org entwickelt, und ist mit 18 programmierbaren Tasten bestückt, jede einzelne mit Doppelklick-Funktion - ausserhalb des ganz harten Kerns der OpenOffice-Nutzer wird sich das wohl keiner antun wollen. Apple Store Louvre: Bilder aus Paris
Wie gestern bereits erwähnt, eröffnet heute in Paris der erste französische Apple Store in einem Einkaufszentrum unter der Glaspyramide Louvre. Die Architektur ist nicht nur für Illuminati-Fans sehenswert, ifoapplestore hat ein paar sehenswerte Fotos zusammengestellt.
Die standesgemäße Warteschlange zur Store-Eröffnung hat sich bereits gestern Nachmittag um 14 Uhr formiert. Mac Bidouille liefert hier regelmäßig aktuelle Fotos nach.

Im Jahr 2015 ist mobiles Internet allgemein das, was es für iPhone-Nutzer heute schon ist: Alltag. Es wird völlig normal sein, unterwegs immer und überall auf Informationen, Inhalte und Anwendungen Zugriff zu haben. Auch im Automobil: Dort werden IP- und Internet-basierende Systeme die Fahrzeugkommunikation steuern, für die Routenplanung und Verkehrsinformationen sorgen und vor Gefahren warnen.
Bis 2024 entwickelt sich das Internet gar zum Unterhaltungsmedium Nummer 1 in Deutschland mit weitreichenden Folgen für Mediennutzung und Werbeformen. Und spätestens dann soll auch Paid Content gesellschaftsfähig werden.
Dies sind Ergebnisse der internationalen Delphistudie "Zukunft und Zukunftsfähigkeit der Informations- und Kommunikationstechnologien und Medien", die jetzt in Berlin vorgestellt wurde. Rund 550 Experten aus Politik, Wirtschaft und Wissenschaft waren hierfür zu wesentlichen Entwicklungen ihrer Branchen für die kommenden zwanzig Jahre befragt worden. A cheap iPhone 3GS for the end of year festivities?
According to BoyGeniusReport who has received information from two different sources, Apple could launch for the end-of-year festivities a cheaper iPhone 3GS for $100. It would be different from the current models and have 8 GB of memory which is sufficient for many people. After a subsidy, it would cost $99.
The acknowledged goal is to fight against the newest iPHone Killer from Motorola, the DROID.

Apple readying dual-mode GSM/CDMA iPhone?
An analyst report sent today hints at Apple producing an iPhone that would work with both GSM and CDMA networks. The OTR Global note obtained by AppleInsider claims to know of an iPhone in development with a hybrid Qualcomm chipset that will support the two normally incompatible standards. It would support UMTS-based 3G on carriers like AT&T and would presumably support EVDO-based 3G on Verizon and similar CDMA carriers.

Guitar Hero and Rock Band drums combine for ultimate MIDI kit (video)
We've seen our fair share of Guitar Hero / Rock Band drum kit mods, but without exception, this one is our fav. Tipster (and tinkerer) Jordan has taken the time to wire up a Guitar Hero kit and a Rock Band kit in order to create the most bodacious set of MIDI skins this planet has ever seen. Using a combination of Osculator, JunXion Lite and Logic, he was able to rig up the Rock Band pedal to operate as a high-hat pedal, while reprogramming some of the heads to act as cymbal

Radio Shack to carry iPhone, Target to follow?
The Wall St. Journal is reporting that Radio Shack will begin selling the iPhone for the holidays in New York City and Dallas-Ft. Worth and will roll it out to all of its stores in 2010. Seperately, Radio Shack will be operating Target's wireless phone business or "store-within a store" so it is conceivable that they'll sell the iPhones at Target as well

67th and Broadwy Apple Store opens Nov. 14th
Media invitations went out today for the grand opening of Apple's 4th Manhattan Store, on 67th and Broadway. The date is set from a week from tomorrow on Saturday the 14th of November. By many accounts, this store is thought to be even more spectacular than the other Manhattan Apple Stores, including the iconic square cube venue on 5th Avenue.
While the store will miss today's Yankees ticker tape parade, it will be along the route of the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade which heralds in the Holiday Shopping Season. It might make sense for Apple to use its location during the parade for publicity. Maybe we'll see a giant iPod floating down Broadway?

iPhone developers still stealing phone numbers
If you have any of the iPhone games above, iPhone developer Storm 8 might have collected your iPhone number according to a lawsuit investigated by Boing Boing.

Apple debuts 'Reserve and Pick-up' for the holiday season
Apple Stores get a little nuts during the holidays. Apple is helping those who want to get in and out with "Reserve and Pick Up". It is what you'd think: You buy something online and pick it up at the nearest store. Also a good way to make sure they have the product you are looking for in stock (and no aiting for adding memory or upgrading hard drives). They'll even wrap it for you, you lazy bastard.

Radioshack to carry iPhone, Target to follow?
The Wall St. Journal is reporting that Radio Shack will begin selling the iPhone for the holidays in New York City and Dallas-Ft. Worth and will roll it out to all of its stores in 2010. Seperately, Radio Shack wil be operating Target's wireless phone business or store-within a store so it is concievable that they'll sell the iPhones at Target.

So we knew a select number of authorized resellers would start stocking iPhones soon, and thanks to a tipster, it looks like we might be getting a glimpse at a none-too-surprising recipient of the new order. Radio Shack to sell iPhone
Radio Shack in a terse notice today said it would begin selling the iPhone 3G and 3GS in its retail stores later this month. The initial rollout is small and will be limited to certain company-run stores in the Dallas/Fort Worth area as well as in New York City. Expansion to all of its stores isn't expected until 2010.

Garmin ecoRoute ESP module gets priced, detailed further
Well, it looks like won't have to wait until CES for more details on Garmin's new ecoRoute ESP module after all, as a listing for the device has now already turned up on GPSCity.com, and the site has even provided us with a few additional, as yet unofficial availability details. Italian company entering Mac clone business
An Italian computer maker is the latest company to ignore Apple's Mac OS X license agreement and launch a new series of Mac clones, according to the Italian site Macity. Jumsoft launches Aperture Themes 2.0 with 16 themes
Jumsoft has released Aperture Themes 2.0, a package of ten new themes for Apple's photography software. The new content adds to the six themes available in the previous v1.0 bundle. The styles are geared toward creating web galleries with photos via Aperture. Each of the 16 themes has up to ten different layouts for a total of 51 designs.

Sonos Controller 3.1 for iPhone adds Twitter, improved UI
Sonos has released an update to its Controller app for the iPhone and iPod touch. Version 3.1 adds the ability to send Twitter updates with information regarding the current track.
