Apple vs. Psystar, wichtiger Sieg für Apple
Nach Monaten der Unsicherheit entschied der Richter im Fall Apple vs. Psystar ganz im Sinne Apples. An diesem Wochenende traf William Alsup die Entscheidung, dass Psystar tatsächlich gegen Apples Copyright verstößt, indem ohne Apples Genehmigung PCs verkauft werden, auf denen sich auch OS X installieren lässt. App Store dejection process - now Rogue Amoeba leaves the flock
The App Store rejection process continues to infuriate even long-term Apple developers, and something will have to change - today we see long time Mac developers, Rogue Amoeba, announce they will no longer develop apps for the iPhone following frustrating (and perplexing) treatment by the App Store team.The company introduced its Airfoil Speakers Touch 1.0 app for the iPhone months ago, became aware of some issues (with audio sync that could be heard when audio was playing to multiple outputs) in the app and sent in an update. Chrome OS to come within a week?
Techcrunch is reporting that the first releases of ChromeOS, the "mostly just a browser running on Linux OS" from Google is set to launch within a week. The major work continues to be driver support which spreads out among PC makers' many components and manufacturers. The new OS will initially target netbooks with a particular aim to give Windows XP users something besides a crippled, expensive Windows 7 to upgrade.
From there, however, Chrome should would on just about any Intel hardware including Macs. You'll likely be able to test Chrome on Parallels or VMWare on Mac when it is released.

AT&T responds to Verizon ads
Today, AT&T issued a response to Verizon's ads which have been getting a lot of attention lately. The ads show maps of 3G service, which Verizon covers more geographic area of the US. AT&T thinks that consumers believe that those maps are of overall geographic coverage - which AT&T actually has more of than Verizon.

Firefox passes 25% of browser market share. One in four web hits now on Firefox
As the Firefox browser prepares to celebrate its 5th birthday, NetApplications reveals quite an accomplishment for the Open Source Mozilla foundation. Mac users still on Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger) systems should be aware that there are no further security or system patches planned for these systems.Apple introduced security and system updates for Mac OS X 10.5 and 10.6 last week, reflecting the company’s historical record of supporting both the current and previous operating system but no previous iterations.The problem here is that Snow Leopard only operates on Intel-based Macs, PowerPC-based Macs must move to Leopard (Mac OS X 10.5) in order to continue to receive OS support. Psystar shot down in flames - Groklaw reports
Psystar just got what's coming to them in the California case. Here's the order [PDF]. It's a total massacre. Psystar's first-sale defense went down in flames. Apple's motion for summary judgment on copyright infringement and DMCA violation is granted. Apple prevailed also on its motion to seal.

Apple will not be at CES in January
A rumour running since last year predicted that Apple would replace the abandoned January Macworld with the CES show of Las Vegas that is held about at the same time. The rumour has just been squashed. Although many booths will be devoted to Mac and the iPhone, Apple will not have an official presence. We however continue to think that Apple will make its great return to the NAB show a few months later, in April 2010.

Google Street View: oberster Datenschützer der Schweiz zieht vor Gericht

Seit August 2009 gibt es die Street View von Google nun auch in der Schweiz, aber die von Google getroffenen Massnahmen zum Schutz der Privatsphäre sind laut Thür nicht ausreichend. Autonummern und Gesichter seien nicht genügend unkenntlich gemacht, und Personen würden in sensibler Umgebung gezeigt, beispielsweise in der Nähe von Krankenhäusern oder Gefängnissen. Bis jetzt gab es von Apple noch keine konkrete Aussage, keine weiteren Updates mehr für Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger zu liefern, allerdings könnten die letzten Updates ein Hinweis darauf sein. Hikaris Android-Tablet iFrame zielt auf Frauen ab

Microsoft bestätigt Sicherheitslücke im SMB-Protokoll

The BBC's iPlayer streaming video / radio service has been available on the Wii in the form of a browser-based app for some time now, but it looks like it's now set to step up its game considerably with a full-fledged iPlayer Wii channel. WebOS 1.3.1-Update fürs Palm Pre ist da

Es war klar, dass WebOS 1.3.1 mehr oder weniger gleichzeitig mit dem Pixi kommen würde, aber das ging nun doch überraschend schnell. Mi iTunes klappt es immer noch nicht, und mit der Geschwindigkeit hat sich wohl auch nichts gross getan, ein paar nette Änderungen gibt es aber durchaus. So werden Videos (auch YouTube) jetzt standardmässig im Landschaftsmodus gezeigt, oder man kann sich für SMS einen Klingelton aussuchen.

Wenn iPhones verloren gehen, ist dies immer schmerzlich. Bei professionell eingesetzten Geräten ist der Verlust aufgrund der sensiblen Kontakt- und ggfs. Zugangs-Daten auf dem Gerät nochmals kritischer. Dieses Problems hat sich Matthias Seemann angenommen und die App "FoundMe" konzipiert. Laut Seemann gehen allein in UK jährlich rund 4,5 Millionen Smartphones und Mobiltelefone jährlich verloren. Er zitiert eine Cisco-Untersuchung, wonach zehn Prozent aller Mitarbeiter mindestens ein Business-Handy pro Jahr verlieren. Neben dem Verlust ergibt sich daraus häufig ein weiteres Problem: Handys sind oft für den Zugriff auf Unternehmensnetzwerke vorbereitet. Ein Dieb kommt damit nicht nur an wertvolle Daten, er kann sogar auf Firmenserver zugreifen.

Report: RIM expected to dominate handset sales through 2014
Pyramid Research has released its Q3 2009 Handset Forecasts, projecting a large shift in the US market for new handset sales. Based on the increase in demand for smartphones, the research group estimates the segment to reach 31 percent of all new handsets sold in the US for 2009. The numbers mark a doubling of the 15 percent growth witnessed two years prior. By the year 2014, Pyramid Research predicts that roughly 60 percent of new handsets will be comprised of smartphones.
