Cowon L3 officially announced (for Asia)
We saw this one coming quite a while back, but it looks like the Cowon L3 satnav / PMP is officially official now. We stil haven't got full specs on this baby yet, but the 7-incher's got a 700x480 resolution, an unamed dual core CPU, 128MB of SDRAM, 4GB of memory, an SD Slot, and GPS, and a fuel consumption indicator. We don't have any specific information as to availability -- though it's unlikely it'll ever get anywhere near North America -- or pricing yet, but we'll let you know as soon as we do!Note: It looks like Cowon no longer has the L3 on its site, but we'll keep you updated. Ob es sich bei obigen Bildern tatsächlich um die Gehäuserückseite der nächsten iPhone-Generation handelt, werden wir so schnell nicht erfahren. Video: Aigo's MID gets Windows XP, relabeled a UMPC
Aigo's MID has been around the block for what feels like ages now, but it's getting an all new purpose in life thanks to one of Redmond's operating systems. If you'll recall, a MID typically runs a "lightweight" OS and is designed to be more of a sophisticated PMP; on the other hand, a UMPC is built for a real-deal OS, something that business users may appreciate. News: Next-generation iPhone photos leaked online?
New photos supposedly showing the back casing of the next-generation iPhone have been posted online. Mac Rumors claims that the images originate from China, showing a matte-black 16GB iPhone back casing, carrying the previously unused model number A1303. MacBook owners reporting problems with audio jacks
A number of MacBook owners have reported problems with the headphone jacks on the new aluminum-unibody devices. The frustrated customers point out that the new design will securely hold the plugs from Apple's own headphones with microphone support, but several stereo headphones and speaker connectors are unable to retain a solid connection, according to Apple Support forum posts.

DS Lite solar panel mod lets you leave the PSU at home
If you've got some 60 x 60 solar panels, a few diodes, some scotch tape, and a little time on your hands, you may never need to plug in your DS ever again. According to "dark sponge," a poster over at Instructables, you can convert the Lite into a solar-powered wonder that will obviate the need for your standard PSU, and make your green leaning friends, er green with envy. The mod involves slapping panels on both the bottom and top of the device which -- when wired in parallel -- get 6 volts of power at 80 mA, which is apparently perfect for a trickle charge. Princeton intros 1080p 21.5-inch display
Japanese-based Princeton has launched a 21.5-inch LCD monitor, the PTFBGF-22RW. The screen is one of the smallest capable of a native 1080p resolution and has a 16:9 native aspect ratio as well as 300cd/m2 brightness. SmartQ 5 touchscreen PMP / MID promises WiFi, Bluetooth
It looks like it may still be quite a while before it actually ends up on store shelves, but this new SmartQ 5 PMP / MID seems like it should be able to at least muster up a bit of interest when and if it is ever released. Samsung unveils Blue Earth, a solar-powered mobile phone
Samsung's Blue Earth handset might just be taking the green thing to a whole new extreme. Made from PCM, a recycled plastic from water bottles, the phone boast an "eco" mode for efficiently adjusting screen brightness, backlight duration and Bluetooth usage, and an "eco walk" app / built-in pedometer to tell you how much CO2 emission you've saved by walking instead of driving. Security experts hating on Android browser until patch is released
Software vulnerabilities are no stranger to modern, highly-connected smartphones and feature phones alike, and fortunately, the big guys have been pretty good about staying on the ball and patching the serious stuff in a reasonable amount of time. The latest problem discovered in the Android browser's multimedia subsystem really sucks, though -- it's so bad, some security dudes are advising customers to "avoid" using the it altogether until it gets fixed -- and the most frustrating part about it is that it actually is fixed in the Android code trunk, it's just that no one's bothered to roll out an update to G1 users yet.

iPod Observer catches wind of one of them new iPhones
The iPod Observer (via MacBlogz) just posted what they believe to be the next model of iPhone's back side. They point out that the number on the back is a model number that doesn't currently exist and that it looks like a metallic black instead of the current plastic. Obviously this wouldn't be rocket science to Photoshop either. We'll believe it when we see it

Apple planning major store makeovers?
Apple is planning major changes to the interior layout of Apple Stores, a new report indicates. The company is said to be looking at de-emphasizing hardware, pushing Macs and iPods aside to focus on software and other less tangible content. Nokia Ovi crash results in three weeks of lost user data
There's definite risks to hosting all your personal data in the cloud, and users of Nokia's Contacts on Ovi service just got a taste of the dark side: a database crash yesterday erased all data entered since January 23rd, when the service superceded Nokia Chat. That means contacts and images simply disappeared from people's phones overnight with no recourse, which should give pause to all of us relying on third parties to manage and maintain our data. On the other hand, Ovi users now get to relive the past few weeks all over again, so maybe there's a silver lining in there for someone after all.

Mobile advertisement firm AdMob has revealed its Mobile Metrics report for January. Fitness guru prepares to launch Wii Fit class-action suit, radio show
Well, this was probably bound to happen. A fitness "expert" named Michael Torchia says he's now preparing a class-action suit against NIntendo which will apparently seek to remove its Wii Fit from the shelves unless they add warnings to the product. The offense? Torchia claims that the Wii Fit actually contributes to obesity, essentially because it claims to be something that it's really not -- namely, a fitness tool -- and discourages people from doing more traditional exercise. First decent Windows Mobile 6.5 screenshots leak out
They're still not as intriguing as those early leaks we got, but the first non-crappy Windows Mobile 6.5 shots hit today, and we're glad to see that terrifying bird wallpaper isn't hardcoded into the OS as we'd feared. Okay, we kid, but everything does look much nicer with antialiasing enabled, and there are some shots showing new curved tabs and new horizontal scrollbars. Welcome cosmetic changes, sure, but it's still incremental stuff -- we'll see if Microsoft has anything besides the honeycomb and My Phone in store for us at MWC. HTC Dream coming to Spain via Telefonica, gets a facelift
This appears to have roughly the same guts as the G1 we already know and love, but Telefonica's version of the first Android handset -- like Optus' -- will get a name change to Dream. This one will also look just a little bit different, getting a more sculpted chin, but we don't believe this to be a totally unique device -- you can see the original model's design DNA shining through above the beltline. Nokia N97 designer interview accidentally outs two new Nokia sets?
Sure, the pic looks a wee bit dodgy, but regardless it shows what looks to be two Nokia sets we've not seen before. Both of these ape the N97 -- which explains how this vid has been circulating since the 29 of January -- but the set on the right has had its d-pad moved to the right side of the keyboard and the buttons on the face seem absent. Windows 7 upgrade details released
The kids over at Tech Arp got their hands on a draft of Microsoft's Windows 7 upgrade scheme. According to the the document, titled "The Microsoft Windows 7 Upgrade Program Rev. 2.1," Vista machines purchased from participating vendors after July 1st will be eligible for an upgrade to the new OS, whenever it comes out -- in a similar manner to the XP - Vista switchover. The idea here is to forestall a sales slump in the lead up to the new OS release. Upgrades will be tier-for-tier, with Vista Home Premium users getting to switch up to Windows 7 Home Premium when the time is right, Vista Business to Windows 7 Professional, and Vista Ultimate users getting an upgrade to Windows 7 Ultimate. Pioneer streicht 10.000 Arbeitsplätze

CrossOver Games 7.2.0rc1 fixes Steam issues
Codeweavers has released a minor release candidate update for CrossOver Games, one of its virtualization utlities. Lego camcorder spotted, great for kids 8 to 80 (sorry Grandpa)
It looks like those Lego-branded Digital Blue devices we've been on the lookout for are starting to see the light of day. This prototype video camera was snapped at the toy fair in Nuremberg -- not too many details at this point, but we're sort of bummed that this one doesn't have the handmade look of the walkie talkie and digital camera we peeped earlier. At least it doesn't look like there are many parts for your child to swallow.

VMware Fusion 2.0.2 veröffentlicht

Bei Zahlen in Milliardenhöhe bedankt sich der Präsident noch persönlich, durfte der Intel-CEO Paul Otellini feststellen. Netapp rutscht in die Verlustzone
Netapp hat sein drittes Finanzquartal 2009 (bis 23. Januar) mit einem GAAP-Nettoverlust von 75 Millionen Dollar oder 0,23 Dollar je Aktie beendet. RIM senkt Gewinnerwartung im vierten Geschäftsquartal
Research In Motion (RIM) hat die Erwartungen an das Ergebnis des laufenden vierten Geschäftsquartals (bis 28. Februar) gedämpft. RIM dämpft Gewinnerwartung im vierten Geschäftsquartal

We'd heard of a FastMac USB external slimline Blu-ray reader poking around Macworld last month, but we never got anything official until today, when the company pinged us to let us know that the $99 APP-6907 DVD±RW / BD drive, the $299 APP-6963 1x BD-R drive and the $399 APP-6964 4x BD-R drive are now all available. All three drives support both Macs and PCs, although you'll need Windows to play BD movies. US and Russian satellites collide in unprecedented accident
A US-owned Iridium satellite has hit a defunct Russian satellite in an unprecedented space collision. The crash occurred some 790km (491 miles) over Siberia on Tuesday, according to NASA, and produced a "massive" cloud of debris. About 600 pieces are being tracked from the debris field in hopes of understanding the risk they present to other satellites and the international space station. The Russian craft was identified as the 950kg (2,094 pound) Cosmos 2251, a communications relay station launched in 1993 and believed to have been non-operational for the last 10 years or so. The Iridium telecommunications satellite was estimated to weigh about 560kg (1,234 pounds).

Tragically, swallow a microSD card whole (or otherwise) is not one of them, which is kind of unfortunate considering that only 7.4GB of the integrated 8GB will be available to the user -- but it turns out that tethering, thankfully, is. Jakks Pacific unveils EyeClops mini projector for the little ones
We see a ton of tiny little projectors these days around here. This one, by toymaker Jakks Pacific, is still pretty eye-catching, anyway. Expected to be on hand next week at the Toy Industry Association's annual International Toy Fair in New York, the EyeClops is obviously designed with children in mind, with a build similar to adult picos. We don't have full specs on this one yet, but it's capable of projecting a 70-inch images via its LED, and can be hooked up to all your child's favorite gadgets -- DVD players, digital cameras, and gaming consoles.

Foxmarks synchronizes IE, Safari, Firefox bookmarks
Foxmarks, Inc. has released several variants of its browser add-on, Foxmarks, that can now be used to synchronize bookmarks between Firefox, Internet Explorer and Safari. The add-ons automatically back up any bookmarks to the company's servers every time a change is made. Users can also view, add, edit and delete bookmarks directly from the Foxmarks website if using a borrowed or public computer,

Blu-ray-Jahresumsatz von über 100 Millionen Euro erwartet
Der deutsche High-Definition-Videomarkt hat 2008 knapp die Umsatzprognosen erreicht. Nach dem Ende des Formatstreits rechnet die Branche 2009 für Spielfilme auf Blu-ray Disc mit einem Jahresumsatz von weit über 100 Millionen Euro. Das entspräche einer Verdopplung des Umsatzvolumens des Vorjahres. (Blu-ray, Film)
