Roku has deployed a new app set adding PBS and PBS Kids content to most of its line of video streaming set-top boxes within the US. Available for streaming are shows such as American Experience, Antiques Roadshow, Frontline, Nova, Masterpiece, and Nature. OS X 10.8.4 Build 12E47 Seeded to Developers [Mac Blog]
As noted by 9to5Mac, Apple today seeded build 12E47 of OS X 10.8.4 to developers. The release comes eight days after the previous build 12E40, and marks the sixth beta iteration of OS X 10.8.4. As with previous beta releases, Apple continues to ask developers to focus on Wi-Fi, Graphics Drivers, and Safari. News: Reports: iOS 7 traffic spiking prior to WWDC

Fifth Avenue Apple Store experiences a water leak
The Apple Store on New York's Fifth Avenue is a veritable marvel of engineering, with its glass cube leading down into an underground space. But putting the store underground like that makes it more vulnerable to water leaks, and sure enough, that's what's happened earlier today in New York. The Post reports that heavy rain in the city caused water to erupt through the ceiling of the store, sending employees running and sliding tables around to protect the merchandise.

Pegatron blames Q2 revenue decline on lower iPad mini demand
Asian supplier Pegatron is blaming an anticipated second-quarter revenue drop on falling iPad mini demand, Bloomberg reports. The company is predicting a 25 to 30 percent sequential dip in revenue, the worst the company has seen since a 37 percent slide in the fourth quarter of 2011. CEO Jason Cheng elaborates that the Mini represents over half of Pegatron's consumer electronics revenue, although devices like e-book readers, game consoles, and other tablets have seen declines as well.

Amazon's music service added to Ford AppLink for iOS users
In February Amazon's Cloud Player was linked with Ford Sync AppLink-enabled vehicles at least for Android. Now the service has been updated to allow users with iOS devices to sync their Amazon library with their 2013 Fords. The current list of vehicles featuring Sync AppLink is limited, but includes the 2013 models of the Mustang, Focus, Fiesta, E=Series, C-Max Hybrid, Fusion, Expedition, Super Duty, and the F-150.

Rains flood Fifth Avenue Apple Store
Apple's flagship Fifth Avenue store in New York City was flooded earlier today, according to the New York Post. The store was reportedly hit by heavy rain, which initially resulted only in a slow leak. The leak turned into a pour however, forcing workers to hurriedly move tables out of the way. iPad Mini Manufacturer Sees Weaker Demand for the Tablet This Quarter
Pegatron, a contract manufacturer for Apple that makes the iPad mini and the iPhone 4S, among other products, said today that its second quarter consumer electronics revenue will drop 25 to 30 percent from the previous quarter, reports Bloomberg. The company says there is a decline in revenue from iPad mini production is "more on demand, while price has been stable", but CEO Jason Cheng also noted that "almost every item is moving in a negative direction" for the quarter. iFixit zerlegt die OUYA: Sehr gut reparierbar

Dieses Urteil gibt es von den Chefzerlegern von iFixit höchst selten, auch wenn sie neulich erst das Galaxy S4 als gut reparierbar bezeichnet haben: die Android-Spielkonsole OUYA ist prima reparierbar. iFixit bescheinigen ihr "a very clean and simple layout" und damit auf der Reparierbarkeitsskala einen Wert von 9 von 10 Punkten. Sony lifting development license fee on PlayStation Vita and Mobile starting ... yesterday

Apple requests Android source code in Samsung lawsuit
That's the word from Bloomberg News today. Apple has asked a U.S. Magistrate Judge to force Google to turn over the Android source code. It's part of Apple's case against Samsung, and Apple continues to believe its intellectual property has been stolen.

Websites see new surge in pre-release iOS 7 traffic
Web traffic from iOS 7 users has surged in the last week or so, reports say. MacRumors notes that it saw iOS 7 hits on its website start to climb on April 29th. Gewinn auf Handy-Weltmarkt: Samsung könnte Apple im zweiten Quartal überholen
Auf dem Handy-Markt lässt sich kaum Geld verdienen – es sei denn, man heißt Samsung oder Apple. Die beiden Unternehmen teilen die Gewinne auf dem Weltmarkt fast alleine unter sich auf, wobei Apple noch deutlich mehr Geld verdient. Ein Analyst glaubt jedoch, dass die Koreaner auch in dieser Statistik bald vorne liegen werden.

Nur Apple und Samsung machen mit Mobiltelefonen Gewinn
Die Analysten von «Canaccord Genuity» haben in einer Studie errechnet, wie sich die Gewinne bei den Mobiltelefon-Herstellern im ersten Quartal 2013 verteilt haben.
Im Vergleich zu den Vorquartalen hat sich am Endergebnis kaum etwas geändert. Gemäss der Studie sind Apple und Samsung weiterhin die einzigen Unternehmen, welche mit ihren Geräten einen nennenswerten Gewinn erzielen. Apple trägt mit einem Gewinn von 8.034 Milliarden US-Dollar im ersten Quartal 57 Prozent zum gesamten Gewinn der Branche bei. Die restlichen 43 Prozent der Gewinne, welche von Mobiltelefon-Herstellern erzielt werden, stammen von Samsung. Samsung erzielte im ersten Quartal einen Gewinn von 6.019 Milliarden US-Dollar.
Noch im vierten Quartal 2012 erzielte Apple mit einem Gewinn von 12.264 Milliarden US-Dollar eine operative Marge von 40 Prozent und trug dabei 72 Prozent zum Gewinn der Branche bei

Nach einer blitzartigen Sohlenkühlung klebt der Bot mit einem Fuß an der Wand und kann sein zweites Bein nach oben schwingen. Japanische Medien berichten über einen Produktionsstart der im kommenden iPhone 5S verbauten Displays. Im Detail bezieht sich diese Aussage auf den japanischen Hersteller Sharp. Doch nicht nur dieser wird für Apple produzieren.

Sicherheitslücke: Spotifys Web-Player wird mit Chrome-Erweiterung zum MP3-Sauger

Gestern ist im Chrome Web Store eine Erweiterung verfügbar gewesen (bereits entfernt), die es erlaubte, über den Spotify Web Player die gehörten Songs direkt als MP3 runterzuladen. Laut dem Autor der Erweiterung war das wohl sträflich einfach: demnach nutzten Spotify keinerlei Verschlüsselung in ihrem HTML5-Player. Spotify selbst haben sich auf Anfrage noch nicht dazu geäußert, aber Google war wie schon bei den Youtube Download-Tools schnell und hat das Teil aus dem Store entfernt.

Microsoft today released the 14.3.4 update for Office for Mac 2011, adding Office 365 compatibility in addition to a host of bug fixes. Previously, Office for Mac 2011 users had to uninstall Office for Mac and sign up for Office 365. Now, existing Office for Mac 2011 users can easily integrate their software with the subscription service. Google continues iOS subterfuge with Chrome API for iOS
Shortly after updating its GMail iOS app to allow it to link directly to Chrome and other Google apps as needed, the search and ad giant is now offering Chrome for iOS integration tools to developers that allow them to specify Chrome as the browser to use for in-app web interaction, bypassing Safari unless Chrome is not already installed. The tools can give developers the option of using Chrome or asking the user if they would like to open a link in Chrome rather than Safari. It's not yet clear if the changes represent any breach of Apple's iOS guidelines.

Sharp Slated to Begin iPhone 5S Display Production in June
According to a new report from Japanese newspaper Nikkan Kogyo Shimbun [Google Translation] (via AppleInsider) Sharp, one of Apple's primary display partners, will begin manufacturing LCD panels for the iPhone 5S beginning in June at its Kameyama Plant No. 1 in Japan. German court tells Apple to change rules for handling customer data
A German court has ruled that Apple must change its company policies for handling customer data after finding the policies violate the country's privacy laws. In the suit, brought by the group Verbraucherzentrale Bundesverband (VZBV), took issue with eight of the provisions in Apple's data-use rules. VZBV originally objected to 15 of the data-use provisions, but was able to work out a binding declaration from Apple covering seven of the provisions.
The basis behind the German court's decision is that Apple cannot ask for "global consent" for data use when German law requires consumers to be told exactly how their data is being used. The court also ruled that Apple cannot ask users for permission to use their friends contacts, due to the lack of consent from those third parties. Greenlight CEO Einhorn grows stake in Apple stock, cites buyback
In Greenlight Capital Investor's quarterly earnings conference call, Chairman David Einhorn has grown his stake in the company. Is Apple's ongoing legal battle with Samsung worth the trouble?
When Steve Jobs first introduced the iPhone at Macworld 2007, he elicited quite a few laughs when he exclaimed, " and boy have we patented it!"
Two years later, starting with its 2009 suit against Nokia, Apple's patent infringement lawsuits began piling up in quick succession.

BitTorrent has revealed a "direct-to-fan" collaboration with music label Ultra.
