Sources: iOS 7 using 'very flat' interface similar to Windows Phone
iOS 7 is codenamed "Innsbruck," and will use a "very, very flat" design, sources for 9to5Mac claim. The OS is reportedly jettisoning any signs of gloss or skeuomorphism, making it flat on a level nearing the look of the Metro interface used in Windows Phone and Windows 8. Apple has sometimes been criticized for using unnecessary real-world analogies in the look of iOS and OS X, for instance by making its Calendar apps resemble leather daybooks.

Reeder updated to connect with Feedbin, or nothing at all
Personally, I'm still in denial about losing my beloved Google Reader in the near future. The web-based RSS reader has been a standby ever since I started using RSS, and even when I used other services, like the great Reeder app on iOS, they ran through Google Reader to get their content.
But the times they are a'changin', and as of July 1, Google Reader will be gone for good. Reeder has gotten out ahead on this one, and just recently pushed out an update for its iPhone version that liberates the app from Google Reader's clutches. Specialized Turbo e-bike reaches the US, offers a speed boost for $5,900

Two brothers, Patrick and Daniel Klug, recently released their first game called 'Game Dev Tycoon'. In it, players start a small game development company in the 1980's and attempt to build it up to a development powerhouse over the next 30 years. I'd love to keep family and friends up to date on our trek by blogging on the trip, but since we want to keep our backpacks at less than 14 lbs. total weight, I'm not sure I want to carry an iPad and I know for sure that a laptop is going to be too heavy. Apple lays early groundwork for major bond sale
Apple is taking steps towards offering its first-ever bond sale, Reuters reports. A source tells the newswire agency that the company is making investor calls to Goldman Sachs and Deutsche Bank today, and has filed paperwork for a debt offering with the US Securities and Exchange Commission. The sale will go towards funding the company's plan to return $100 billion in cash to shareholders by 2015.

Macworld's Jason Snell on the failings of digital calendars
For most of us, calendars are the cornerstone of our work and personal schedules. Though we own "smart" phones, the apps we use to track our days are still relatively dumb, argues Jason Snell of Macworld.
In a lengthy article, Snell asks why calendars aren't more like a personal assistant -- smart enough to manage your schedule, not just pencil in dates and times. He brings up his own schedule which is filled with meetings and seemingly no breaks. An assistant would notice his meeting overload and pencil in free time accordingly.

Square Register 3.0 update adds restaurant-oriented features
Square has issued a major update of the iOS and Android versions of Register, the app for the company's retail checkout system. Version 3.0 focuses on improvements for restaurants: customers can add custom tips, and the payment pad now supports multiple custom amounts, which can each have individual notes attached. Angry Birds friends coming to the App Store this week
Rovio has announced today that a new game called Angry Birds Friends will be out on the App Store this week, offering up yet another iteration on the extremely popular series about frustrated avians. As you can tell from the name of the game, Angry Birds Friends will be a social take on bird-throwing, combining elements of the popular Facebook version and the iOS version's touchscreen gameplay.
I think Rovio might be a little behind on this one, as asychronous Words With Friends-style multiplayer has fallen out of favor a bit on the App Store lately. Nest 3.5 update adds Cool to Dry, Sunblock modes
Nest Labs is pushing out a v3.5 update to owners of the Nest Learning Thermostat at 9PM Eastern today. The firmware upgrade includes two new modes, beginning with Cool to Dry, which turns on air conditioning to reduce humidity. New report details SFPD approach to fighting iPhone thefts
The San Francisco Police Department is pursuing a "fear and distrust" strategy in an attempt to wreck the city's black market for mobile devices, particularly iPhones, the Huffington Post writes. Sting operations are targeting both the buyers and sellers of stolen devices, the idea being to deter people from going the illegal route. The SFPD has reportedly had help from Apple, which loaned a collection of iPhones that were then sold by undercover police officers.

Once again, Apple's iPad has topped the J.D. Power and Associates ranking of tablets as it pertains to customer satisfaction.
In its most recent survey, J.D. Power surveyed 1,857 tablet users who have owned a tablet for at least one year. It's no secret that the iPhone is a hot commodity amongst thieves; so much so that New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg went so far as to attribute the rise in New York City's 2012 crime rate to the increase in iPhone-related thefts.
Underlying the prevalence of iPhone thefts is an extremely lucrative resale market.
Police say stolen phones bought [in San Francisco] are often resold overseas -- in part to avoid a domestic blacklist being established by American wireless carriers -- eventually fetching as much as $1,000 at markets scattered from Hong Kong to Rio de Janeiro. The total value of lost or stolen phones in the U.S. is about $30 billion a year, according to the mobile-security firm Lookout.

Just click an email address, phone number, or URL field label to display a list of available options. You can send an email, show a phone number in large type, or start a FaceTime call, for example. Curiously, one shortcut that's absent from most of these popups is one for copying the email address, phone number, URL, etc. to the clipboard. Mailing addresses are one exception, as they provide an option to copy a mailing label. But, other fields don't include this option. Apples neuer Revisor bekommt Aktien-Optionen in Millionen-Höhe
Luca Maestri, bis vor kurzem noch CFO bei Xerox und seit Februar neuer Corporate Controller bei Apple, hat für seinen Amtsantritt bei Apple 38’091 restriktierte Aktien-Optionen erhalten. Diese Optionen geben dem Manager das Recht, ab einem vorher definierten Zeitpunkt pro Option eine Aktie zu kaufen. Beim aktuellen Aktienkurs hätte dieses Willkommensgeschenk einen Wert von über 15 Millionen US-Dollar. Entscheidend für den Gesamtwert des Optionspaketes ist die Entwicklung des Aktienkurses von Apple. Jedes halbe Jahr kann Maestri nun einen Achtel der Optionen in Aktien umwandeln oder verkaufen, womit der Manager über insgesamt vier Jahre ans Unternehmen gebunden wird.
Wie gross das Grundsalär neben den Aktienoptionen ist, wurde von Apple nicht bekannt gegeben.

AMD Radeon HD 7730 im Anmarsch

iPad-User sind die zufriedensten Tablet-Besitzer
Die Analysten von «J.D. Power and Associates» haben zum zweiten Mal die Zufriedenheit der Tablet-Nutzer in den USA gemessen. Die Resultate dieses Jahres unterscheiden sich allerdings kaum von den Resultaten, welche im letzten Herbst veröffentlicht worden sind.
Das Unternehmen kam zum Schluss, dass Apple in vier von fünf gemessenen Parameter die Rangliste anführt. Lediglich bei den Kosten musste sich Apple von Amazon geschlagen geben. Auf der von «J.D. Power and Associates» berechneten Beliebtheitsskala kommt Apple trotzdem auf einen Wert von 836 von maximal 1’000 Punkten. Dieses Rating bringt Apple das Prädikat «Among the best» ein, welches von keinem anderen Tablet-Hersteller verwendet werden darf.
Auf dem zweiten Platz folgt Amazon mit einem Wert von 829 Punkten und dem

Apple Considering Lower-Priced iPad Mini at $199-$249?
Along with his recent research note addressing Apple's notebook launch plans, KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has also published a note examining Apple's iPad prospects. In particular, Kuo looks to the iPad mini as the future of the company's iPad portfolio, but with Apple's efforts to bring a Retina display to the device said to be pushing a launch back to the fourth quarter of this year, he suggests that Apple may be looking at a lower-priced iPad mini.Prior to iPad mini 2 launch, Apple might roll out a more affordable iPad mini to compete with Android products. LG will launch the world's first 55-inch curved OLED HDTV
We visited LG's HQ earlier this month and heard that the curved OLED HDTV prototypes it showed at CES are due for release, and now it's official.
