Acer W4 hands-on (video)
Hey, it's our old pal, the Acer W4. We've heard tell of the device and seen our share of mockups, and this week at IFA, we actually got to play with the thing. The 3.6-inch handset is fairly compact, and pretty slick looking, with its black front and curved white backing. It's not particularly exciting on the spec side, with its 1GHz Qualcomm processor. Nope, what's most exciting here is the inclusion of Mango, which should look rather familiar to Windows Phone 7 owners, while adding some welcomed updates to the mix.

AT&T advances upgrade dates ahead of iPhone 5

Best Buy: Sprint iPhone 5 early October, Apple demos Oct. 21
Best Buy prepared itself for the iPhone 5 launch in two stages with two leaks on Sunday. IFA 2011: XtremeMac zeigt vier neue Lautsprecher-Docks für Apple-Geräte (Video)

Am extrem orangen XtremeMac-Messestand sticht unter den neuen Lautsprechersystemen für iPhone, iPad, iPod und iMac vor allem der oben abgebildete Soma Stand hervor. Das leicht zu transportierende Dock faltet sich zu einer Art Pyramide auf. Die Lautsprecher zeigen dabei nach aussen, so dass das iPad den Sound nicht blockieren kann. Spotify lockt iOS-Entwickler mit einer offiziellen Programmierschnittstelle, die den Musikstreaming-Service in jedem Drittanbieter-Programm unterbringt. Selbstgestrickter Push: Prowl springt auf Version 1.3
Boxcar beherrscht die Push-Welt - zumindest für alle App-Store-Apps, die keinen eigenen Nachrichtenticker anbieten. Den Trend startete jedoch Zachary West mit Prowl (2.39 €; Universal; App Store-Link), das seit sieben Monaten mal wieder ein Update zugesprochen bekam.

Android auf dem HP Touchpad, Teil 2: läuft, aber immer noch ohne Touchscreen

Jetzt wo es überall Touchpads wie Sand am Meer geben dürfte hat sich auch Team-Touchdroid an die ehrenwerte Aufgabe gemacht, HPs Tablet mit Android zu versehen. Wie schon beim letzten Versuch mit CyanogenMod 7 konnten sie den Touchscreen nicht zum Laufen bringen, dafür aber Android 2.3.5 in einer Dual-Boot Konfiguration. Samsung darf Galaxy Tab 7.7 nicht mehr auf der IFA zeigen
Samsung hat offiziell bestätigt, dass man das Galaxy Tab 7.7 nicht länger auf der IFA ausstellen dürfe und den Messeauftritt diesbezüglich umkonzipiert habe. Das Verbot erfolgte vom Düsseldorfer Gericht, das schon zuvor gegen Samsung und für Apple entschieden hatte. Gestern hatten wir bei Samsung um eine Stellungnahme zur Entfernung des Galaxy Tab 7.7 vom Stand auf der IFA gebeten, heute ist sie angekommen:

C'mon, admit it -- you didn't really think the LG Thrill 4G would ever be released, did you? OS X Lion: XCode mit ausgelagertem Installer updaten
Der Mac App Store hat viele Vorteile, aber auch ein paar Punkte, die etwas umständlich sind. Was ist nämlich, wenn Sie eine große App downloaden, und diese gleich auf zwei Rechnern installieren wollen? Bei einer langsamen Internet-Verbindung kann das ganz schön unbequem werden. Wenn Sie das gesamte Paket von einem Mac zu einem anderen ziehen, gibt es möglicherweise Probleme beim Update via Mac App Store.

Eine anonyme Quelle bei Best Buy hat this is my next auf einen ungewöhnlichen Eintrag im Kalender des US-amerikanischen Elektronikhändlers hingewiesen: Am Freitag, dem 21. Oktober, wurde dort ein "Apple fixture" eingetragen. Ungewöhnlich sei laut Tipster, dass die Anwesenheit eines Managers um 6 Uhr morgens verlangt werde, da diese üblicherweise erst um 7 Uhr zur Inventaraufnahme erschienen. Beim iPhone 4-Launch sei der Ablauf ähnlich gewesen. Zudem finde am 10. Oktober ein Treffen der Best Buy Mobile-Manager statt, welches sich "upcoming BIG release dates" widme. Google drops AdMob from mobile web ads
Google made a major policy change for its mobile ad unit AdMob late Friday with plans to take it away from the mobile web. Citing confusion and overlap, it now plans to limit AdMob to native mobile apps on Android, iPhones, iPads, and other phone or tablet platforms. AdSense, its original ad system, would be used for web ads on phones and tablets.

Leak: HP sees webOS team as an 'incubator'
A pair of leaked memos sent out to HP's webOS team has shown that HP may have more of an active role for the platform than first thought. The webOS Global Business Unit's software side will be folded into the Office of Strategy and Technology, where it will directly feed into the research and development section of the company. HP considers the section an "incubator," PreCentral learned, and would be getting some of the added attention and resources that cloud services are getting.

Web code hints Find My Friends on its way to Apple iCloud
The possibility of Apple's Find My Friends feature grew stronger Saturday after web code was distributed by an anonymous source. While exploring a support system for the outgoing MobileMe, the AppleInsider contact found a block of code for tasks such as viewing the followed or following lists, statuses, and bans. The remote control revolutionized the way we watch television, doing away with the need for frequent trips to the set in order to change channels. One prototype in Haier's portfolio makes the whole remote thing look like a back breaking chore by comparison. XtremeMac showcases the Soma Stand, Soma Travel and more at IFA (video)
There were lots of cool Apple-centric products to been seen around XtremeMac's extremely orange booth at IFA this week, proving that there's still interesting things to be done in the world of iPhone / iPad / iPod docks.
At the top of the list is the Soma Stand, a pyramid-shaped dock that folds up for portability. The accessory is mostly speaker, which faces outward, so sound isn't blocked when you've got an iPad on the thing.
