AT&T working on Apple mini-SIM, sees low Windows Phone sales
AT&T's wireless head Ralph de la Vega in an interview late this week said his company was also joining in Apple's plan to develop an even smaller SIM card. He hesitated to directly make the link with Apple, like France Telecom's CEO did, but confirmed AT&T was "working with the industry" to shrink beyond existing sizes. It would "probably" happen, he explained to AllThingsD, and was something that was a logical conclusion.

Upcoming Apple Store in Hamburg, Germany pranked by Windows fanbois
When new Apple Stores are under construction, it's common for the front of the store to be hidden in a large black wooden structure. Yesterday morning, the black box at the new store in Hamburg, Germany was plastered with a nicely painted and quite artistic Windows logo, which was later painted over by a worker with a ladder and bucket of black paint. German Apple fan site iFun.de was sent some photos, allegedly by three different readers.
Being the skeptic that I am, I ran the photos through the Forensic Error Level Analysis tool to see if these were real photos or just nicely Photoshopped images.

„Automatic Download“ - Kommendes iOS 5-Feature?
Auf der App-Update-Seite im iTunes Store stand bis vor Kurzem, zumindest in der englischen Version, folgender Satz: „Or if your device has Automatic Download enabled for apps, your updates will download to your device without having to sync.“ - So etwas existiert im Moment noch nicht in iOS. Könnte also mit iOS 5 die Möglichkeit kommen, Updates für installierte Apps ohne weiteres Nachfragen oder manuelles Einspielen installiert zu bekommen?Weiterhin deutet der Satz daraufhin, dass auch automatische Updates für Anderes kommen könnte - Ein Stichwort dazu wäre iOS selbst. Bereits mehrmals wurde spekuliert, ob mit iOS 5 sogenannte „Over-The-Air-Updates“ kommen. Genaueres wissen wir wohl erst am Montag, wenn Steve Jobs uns die ganzen Einzelheiten über iOS 5, Mac OS X Lion und iCloud verrät.

Kno's exit from its own tablets complete as iPad app arrives
Kno's full exit from tablets was made complete late Friday after it released its official iPad app (free, App Store). The app gives access to the full, complex textbook layouts of its earlier hardware with highlights, note taking and sharing, and a book manager that sorts by the course. A store inside gives access to 70,000 textbooks that are discounted by as much as 30 to 50 percent off their paper equivalents.

Wer konnte sich vor einem Jahr vorstellen, dass Algoriddim das bekannte Mac DJ-Werkzeug djay fūr's iPad portieren würde. Nun ist es passiert und die Umsetzung ist sehr gut. MobileNotifier dev snapped up by Apple to work on iOS framework?
We said that MobileNotifier unobtrusive notifications might be the single best reason to jailbreak your iOS device, and it sounds like Apple may agree -- Redmond Pie reports that lead developer Peter Hajas has been spirited away by the Cupertino computer company to work on iOS itself. Eee Pad Transformer caught playing nice with PS3 controller (video)
Earlier this week the Eee Pad Transformer scored itself a sweet upgrade in the form of Android 3.1, and with it came USB host support. Apple's market value is more than Microsoft and Intel combined
Apple's market value is now greater than Microsoft and Intel combined. When the market closed on Friday, Microsoft had a market value of US$201.59 billion and Intel had a value of $115.21 billion. Combined, they have a market value of $316.8 billion which is just below the $317.60 billion of Apple. This may the first time Apple has exceeded the portmanteau.

All publishers onboard for iCloud after tug-of-war deal
Insiders said late Friday that Apple had managed to secure all its publisher deals just ahead of its iCloud music launch. Having already secured labels, it got the distributors after agreeing to give both major and indie publishers a 12 percent cut, higher than their usual 10 percent. The deal seen by Reuters should clear Apple to show the song-matching music streaming service knowing all its key rights are in place.

iTunes leak suggests 'Automatic Download' over-the-air updates are coming in iOS 5
In the lead-up to this year's WWDC, we so far know three things for sure: Apple will unveil OS X Lion, iCloud, and automatic, over-the-air app updates for iOS 5, apparently. While searching for updates in iTunes, a MacRumors reader stumbled upon this page, which alludes to an "Automatic Download" feature that allows for wireless syncing. Fox News has released an iPad app that lets you read and view the latest news on your tablet. The iPad app is heavy on the multimedia with picture-rich links to the top news articles and videos. If you like a news story, it can be saved to your Favorites or shared on Twitter or Facebook. The app also includes a news ticker and weather conditions at the bottom. NVIDIA has pact with Microsoft to block outside takeovers
NVIDIA has a special deal with Microsoft to prevent outside deals and possibly let Microsoft itself buy it out, according to SEC filings. The Windows developer has rights of refusal on any attempt by a company to buy more than 30 percent of NVIDIA's share, preventing any other company from buying a controlling stake. NVIDIA also has "poison pills" that would let it issue shares without shareholder approval to prevent a controlling stake, and its shareholder voting rules would prevent an activist investor from easily overthrowing management.

LTE-Netz der Telekom in Köln ist in Betrieb

The New York Post is reporting that digital journalist Josh Quittner is leaving Time magazine to join startup Flipboard as its new editorial director. Flipboard is a personalized social magazine app for the iPad. Apple gave a possible clue to an iOS 5 feature with a mention of automatic app syncing in iTunes. A check of the app updates page by Marcelo Alves showed that a device can be enabled for Automatic Download to get both purchased apps and updates directly, without having to link up to iTunes. Rumor: 'Automatic Download' of app updates in iOS 5
A MacRumors reader reports that iTunes has leaked a new "Automatic Download" function expected to debut in iOS 5. Currently, apps can be updated either in iTunes on a Mac/PC or directly on the iDevice itself, but app updates have always required user intervention thus far. By the sounds of this leaked info, app updates will now be downloaded automatically in the background if the user so chooses.
"If your device has Automatic Download enabled for apps, your updates will download to your device without having to sync," the leaked info states. Garmin may be buying Navigon as a defense against the pressure on GPS devices from smartphones, sources divulged in a German leak on Friday. You have probably seen Fling, the joystick put together by Ten One Design that sticks right onto your iPad. And now the company has introduced a new version called the Fling mini, available for preorder right now. As you can imagine, the Fling mini is smaller than the iPad version, but Ten1 says it still feels like an analog stick and works just fine on the iPhone's haptic touchscreen.
I was very impressed with the Fling joystick when I tried it at Macworld earlier this year, and while it's tough to see how Ten One could replicate that same balance and feel in a smaller model, I have no doubt the company was able to do it

The Develop 100 is a list put together every year of the top video game developers in the world, and this year there's a surprising trend showing up: a lot of iPhone and iOS developers are starting to make the grade. Comscore says the iPhone now tops RIM in US subscribers
It's probably not a gigantic surprise that Apple has slipped past the RIM BlackBerry phones, but it's a benchmark that should be noted. There may even be a few toasts in Cupertino.
Comscore keeps an eye on mobile trends, and a report released today says Apple has increased market share from 24.7% to 26% from January until April of this year. Google (Android) rose 5% to 36.4%, while RIM has 25.7% of smartphone subscribers. Microsoft, even with the addition of its new Windows Phone 7 line, has dropped 1.3% to a 6.

DOJ investigating Apple bid on Nortel phone patents
Sources revealed on Friday that the US Department of Justice was investigating the potential Apple bid in Nortel's wireless patent auction. It's hard out there for a company making endangered gadgets. According to Reuters, flailing satnav maker Navigon could be acquired by none other than Garmin, which has struggled itself to maintain strong handheld navigator sales in the face of stiff competition from smartphones.
