Windows Phone 7 policy changed to stop inflated app counts

Microsoft took a step to make its Windows Phone 7 app growth more realistic on Friday with an outreach to developers. App certifications would now be capped at 20 per day. Developers will still have the option of submitting as many as they like all at once, but any more than 20 will be staggered over the course of multiple days, the company's Todd Brix said.

Apple, Google asked to make refunds available in Taipei

The Taipei City government has asked Google and Apple to provide a seven-day free trial period for their respective mobile app stores. Yeh Ching-yuan, the top person in the city's Law and Regulation Commission, claims the companies are in violation of the Consumer Protection Act without free trials or a way to provide full refunds.

Boost 3D Update: Jetzt Boost 2, Sonderverkauf & neue Features

Boost 3D kam ursprünglich 2009 in den App Store und blieb bis heute weitestgehend unverändert. Nintendo Project Cafe makes more buzz than future iPad, NGP

Nintendo's Project Cafe is garnering much more attention than even Apple devices for gamers in the lead up to E3 next week, Nielsen found in a study on Friday. Although Nintendo has only acknowledged that a future system exists, 47 percent knew it was coming and 27 percent planned to buy one within half a year of it being available. Only 39 percent knew that Apple would have a new iPad, and 18 percent were willing to buy one shortly after it arrived.

LG Optimus Black vs. iPhone 4, others in stop-motion video

I've never been a big fan of the company's phones, but LG sure makes some great videos. Its latest is the Smartphone Championship Race, a stop-motion NASCAR-inspired film that pits the LG Optimus Black against the iPhone, Sony Ericsson's Xperia Arc and Samsung's Galaxy S. Syrian internet knocked out as protests fill the streets (video)

The Washington Post is reporting a massive internet outage across Syria today, a fact confirmed by government-backed outlet Syria-News.com. Internet traffic monitoring group Renesys began noting the outage at 7:00AM eastern time, with two-thirds of networks in the country affected -- half an hour later, 49 out of 50 networks in Syria were hit. The outage struck the nation as some 50,000 protesters took to the streets as part of a "Children's Friday" protest, drawing attention to the death of dozens of children in prior protests and calling for the resignation of the country's president, Bashar al-Assad. Neue Time Capsule mit iOS & A4/A5-Prozessor?

Nachdem wir vorhin über die Möglichkeit, die Time Capsule als Zwischenschritt für Over-the-Air-Software Updates für iOS zu verwenden, berichtet hatten, taucht nun eine neue Theorie auf: Die neue Time Capsule soll so, wie auch der Apple TV, mit einer angepassten Version von iOS laufen. Dazu soll der A4- oder A5-Chip als Prozessor verbaut werden. Damit wäre auch die Integration mit iCloud, die Gerüchten zufolge auf dem iPhone, iPod touch und iPad und damit auf iOS sowieso kommt, für Apple deutlich einfacher zu bewerkstelligen. Mac OS X Lion Server could be Mac App Store add-on

The Server version of Mac OS X Lion may be a paid add-on for the core OS, a tip to French site HardMac suggests. The person claims to have discovered a Help note in the Lion preview, "Make this Mac a server," which asks Lion owners to "buy the server app from the Mac App Store;" the code is installed to the Applications folder. "The Server app downloads the Server Essentials software package, installs it, and configures this Mac as a server," the note concludes.

NYPost: Apple paying major music labels up to $150 million for rights to music on iCloud

The New York Post is reporting that three separate sources have told them Apple is paying the big four music labels between $100-150 million for the rights to distribute their music through the new iCloud service, which is set to debut on Monday. Decoy swarm has the potential to protect attacking jets with hundreds of drones

Next AirPort devices may use A4 or A5, iOS roots

An off-hand tip in a report late Thursday hinted that Apple's upcoming Time Capsules would borrow a cue from the current Apple TV. One source said that the new router, and possibly regular AirPort devices, would use either an A4 or an A5 chip and a heavily modified iOS foundation. Apple has signaled its intent to improve iOS' notification systems beyond what's expected in iOS 5 by quietly making a rare hire of a jailbreak app developer. White Ninja crashes car into Greensboro, NC Apple store

A man reportedly dressed in a hooded white "ninja" outfit crashed his car into the Apple store in Greensboro, North Carolina. The accident occurred early Friday morning before the store was open. Microsoft sells 55 million Xbox 360 consoles, claims that's console history

If you work for Sony you might want go watch TV right now -- there's something on Discovery about ostriches and sand. Meanwhile, Microsoft just let us know that it's sold 55 million Xbox 360s globally, which is very probably enough to maintain its lead over the PS3. Moreover, 360 sales in the US are still accelerating six years into its life-cycle, thanks largely to updates like Kinect -- and Microsoft boasts that "no other console in history can make that claim." Huzzah. Now, we're not ones to snatch the pen from the victor's hand, but remember: this claim is based on US stats, whereas the PS3 has generally been doing better in other regions.

JP Morgan says iPad competitors slow production

A report from analyst Mark Moskowitz of JPMorgan Chase suggests the iPad is killing sales of competing tablet devices. Companies like Motorola, Samsung and Asus have reportedly cut production of their tablets by as much as 10% since March of this year. Wird die Time Capsule cleverer und wolkentauglich?

Filed under: Festplatten Ein wenig überaltet und ziemlich überteuert wirkt die Time Capsule von Apple mittlerweile. In den Lagern der Mac Stores sind sie zur Zeit fast eine Seltenheit geworden, ebenso wie die AirPort Extreme und Express, weshalb viele auf eine Hardware Erneuerung rings um den WWDC deutet. Keine Frage das sich sofort auch jemand auf Gerüchtesuche gemacht hat. Intern soll wohl eine Time Capsule Variante getestet werden, die automatisch Softwareupdates für verschiedene Geräte zieht. Backups oder Zwischenspeicher für iCloud soll es auch werden. Nun. Nächste Woche wissen wir mehr.

Apple has just managed to push past RIM for second place in market share, comScore found in its study of US market share from this past April. After getting close in February, Apple has now moved up to 26 percent where RIM dropped to 25.7 percent, relegating it to third place. Despite ongoing reports of the company's interest, Apple's plans for NFC remain "unknown," according to NFC chipmaker NXP Technology. Answering a long-standing and increasingly-urgent request, Purgatory Design today released Intaglio v3.2, which finally adds direct import for AppleWorks 6 drawing files, meaning users can migrate the drawing files to more modern formats without losing quality or vector attributes. Pixelmator 2.0 summer launch adds drawing, retouching tools

Pixelmator has announced an update to its image editing software, Pixelmator 2.0. The app adds drawing tools, such as a freeform pen, along with path selection tools and pre-drawn shape tools -- all creating vector-based forms. Pulse News app now saves and syncs

Pulse News app for the iPhone and iPad received a nice update today allowing selected stories to be saved and automatically synced to other Pulse News apps you have or retrieved via the web. Sign-up for the service is free and can be done from within the Pulse News app. All that's required is a user-name and a password. When you see a story you want to save, click on the star symbol. Motorola chief pins Android phone returns on poor apps

Most of Motorola's phone returns are actually from people confusing poorly running apps with the phone quality itself, chief executive Sanjay Jha explained in a presentation at a Bank of America Merrill Lynch conference on Thursday. Of those returns that were tracked, 70 percent had been turned in because they used too much battery power or bogged the phone down. Google's loose testing on Android Market didn't check for this, leaving Motorola to both monitor for it and deal with the returns.
