PSA: Apple's iPhone may not wake you up on time tomorrow morning

Apple is warning iPhone users that the daylight savings time glitch that plagued Europe affects US iPhones too, meaning you'll wake up an hour late if you rely on the Clock app built into the device. Though Apple representatives say there's a permanent fix in the works, it's not due until iOS 4.2, so the company suggests you set a new alarm today if you want to rise on time. Since the bug apparently only affects certain repeating alarms, you can create a new one-time alarm (i.e. with the repeat option set to "never") instead, and the iPhone clock will take care of the rest. Don't be the gal or guy blaming your tardiness on failed technology, folks, when it's this easy to be able to point the finger at traffic, family, or spontaneous bouts of dance fever instead.

ScreenSteps, an app for creating screen-based documentation and a TUAW favorite, has just released a pretty big update and a brand-new social document service called ScreenSteps.me. The desktop update includes, among other improvements, a totally-rewritten screen capture tool that makes the documentation process quite a bit simpler. The coolest part of the new screen capture tool is the ability to remember snapshot positions. If you're repeatedly taking screenshots of the same window or the same section of a web page, you can grab the exact same part of your screen each time. AAPL could hit $410 according to R.W. Baird analyst

If only this blogger had held onto that Apple stock that was bought for about $8 while dabbling in the market in the late-1990s. Instead the profits from selling it at $27 a share were put into such wise investments as Webvan. The only good thing about my dot com bubble investing period is that only a small chunk of money was set aside to play with and no more was added. Verizon testing $70 smartphone plan to rival Sprint, AT&T

Verizon upped the competition in smartphones today with a new plan that could put pressure on most of its rivals. The Talk and Text Plus Data Promotion is a virtual match for Sprint's Everything Data with 450 minutes of talk time, unlimited texting and unlimited on-device data for an identical $70. It only lags Sprint in still limiting unlimited voice to other Verizon phones but costs $20 less than what it would normally cost with Verizon and $15 less than what AT&T would charge.

RIM claims Dell dropping BlackBerry is publicity stunt

RIM fired back at Dell's decision to drop BlackBerry for Windows Phone 7 today in a statement that accused the PC builder of being dishonest. Senior Corporate Marketing VP Mark Guibert saw the switch to the Venue Pro as a publicity stunt and dismissed Dell's later claims that it would save as much as 25 percent in mobile costs by dropping the expenses of running BlackBerry Enterprise Server hardware. Apple may have already turned to a well-known fashion photographer to shoot commercials for the next-generation iPad based on slips from those who were reportedly around the scene. T-Mobile customers being mistakenly shipped Micro SIMs, just begging to get shoved into iPhones

You've got to admit, this is a little weird: we've received a number of tips today about T-Mobile USA customers being shipped Micro SIMs rather than the typical Mini SIMs. We've gotten a picture of just such a module (see above), and you can plainly see it's not a hybrid -- it can't be snapped out as a Mini SIM, meaning that unless you've got an adapter lying around, you need to head into the store to get it swapped out for the right kind. Google bans Facebook, others from one-way data exports

Google escalated a growing conflict between itself and Facebook on Friday by stating that it would no longer let outside services sync Google contacts unless they supported two-way transfers. The policy change appeared to single out Facebook, which only allows contact imports and has no way to export information. Sites that don't allow contact information to get out create a "data dead end" that prevent changes from getting back to other areas, it said.

Ambrosia launches Soundboard v2, adds audio routing

Soundboard, the live sound-effect playing software from Ambrosia, got a major overhaul in its 2.0 update, incorporating a new one-window interface and audio-routing technology called Soundpipe that allows the output of Soundboard to be directed to any other program (such as Logic or Garageband) without additional hardware or software. The new version also sports an internal sound cache to provide very low latency and minimal CPU impact.
