Ekso Bionics' robotic suit eyes-on (video)
Since last we saw the Ekso Bionics robotic suit, which helps folks with lower-extremity paralysis or weakness to stand up and walk, the $110k exoskeleton has been on the market for about a year. About 30 have sold so far, and the company's director of marketing & communications, Allison Sjoka, reckons that medical centers have already helped rehabilitate somewhere between 500 and 1,000 patients. Ouya CEO: Mobile games 'a distraction,' no emotional aspect
Gaming on devices such as Apple's iPad and Samsung's Android-powered Galaxy S IV lacks the emotional impact of traditional console gaming, according to one gaming executive. Speaking at Engadget's Expand conference, Ouya CEO Julie Uhrman lamented the lack of depth in mobile games. The Android-powered Ouya console, Uhrman says, will bridge the gap between the accessibility of mobile gaming and the emotional depth made possible by traditional consoles.

Jobs biopic starring Ashton Kutcher delays release
Ermagerd! It's a catastrophe of Hollywood proportions! Jobs, the somewhat biographical movie starring Ashton Kutcher that chronicles the rise of late Apple founder Steve Jobs from stinky college dropout to highly-successful CEO, has been given a delayed release date so that Open Road Films can have more time to market the film. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Jobs was initially scheduled for an April 19, 2013 release to coincide with the 37th anniversary of the company's founding. Ubuntu Raring Ringtail hits beta, flagship desktop and server flavors left out
Canonical's taken the next step in pushing Raring Ringtail out of its nest by releasing the very first beta version, but only for Edubuntu, Kubuntu, Lubuntu, UbuntuKylin, Ubuntu Cloud, Ubuntu Studio and Xubuntu. Plain ol' Ubuntu for desktops and servers will arrive with the final 13.04 beta release on March 28th, so that devs will be able to focus on the software and keep things under wraps for a little longer. Kickfolio puts iOS apps on the web for hands-on interaction
Developers working on iOS applications have had a bit of a dilemma regarding app demos and beta testing. Getting a prerelease or ad-hoc version of an app out to testers' devices can be complicated, expensive or both -- although services like Testflight and Hockeyapp can streamline the process if needed.
For marketing, many devs have used a short video to try to get across the key points of an app, while others use the freemium model to let users give the app a try before purchasing full functionality through an in-app purchase. They could also choose to not create a demo and use word of mouth and a good website to explain their app.

I bought the MacUpdate Spring Bundle last week and it includes some great software (listed below). As usual, bundles are a great way to quickly grab a group of applications for an ultra-low price. In this case, the full bundle costs as much as just one of these pieces of software -- MotionComposer alone is $149.
If you've been wanting to try virtualization, Parallels is included in this bundle (although you'll need your own copy of Windows if you plan to install it). MacUpdate's own service is included for six months. The handy MacUpdate app will scan your Applications folder for files and alert you when one of them needs an update. If, like me, you wind up buying a lot of stuff outside the Mac App Store, this is a valuable service.

Insert Coin semifinalist: Moedls 3D scanner for your phone hands-on
Moedls (pronounced moy-dles) inventor John Fehr, being a semifinalist in our Insert Coin competition, is obviously on hand here at Expand. While we were impressed with what we saw from afar, we were really excited to see the low-cost 3D scanner in person. The laser-cut housing for the lasers is delightfully DIY, but it will eventually be replaced with a more polished case. Google Translate speichert jetzt Sätze in einer persönlichen Sammlung
Der Übersetzungsdienst von Google bietet als neue Funktion das Speichern von Sätzen in einem sogenannten "Phrasebook", das auf Deutsch "Sätzesammlung" heißt. Mit einem Klick auf das Sternchen unter dem übersetzten Satz oder Wort könnt ihr dieses in einer Liste abspeichern, vorausgesetzt natürlich, dass ihr euch vorher anmeldet. Die Liste lässt sich nach Sprachen sortieren, und die einzelnen Übersetzungen können nach einem Klick auf das Lautsprechersymbol auch angehört werden. Eigentlich eine gute Idee, dumm nur, dass man die häufig fehlerhaften Übersetzungen nicht korrigieren kann.

Filmstart von jOBS auf unbestimmte Zeit verschoben
Eigentlich sollte jOBS, das Biopic mit Ashton Kutcher als Steve Jobs, am 19. April in die Kinos kommen. Wie Deadline berichtet, hat der Filmverleih Open Road den Filmstart jetzt auf unbestimmte Zeit verschoben. Am Sundance-Festival, wo der Film im Januar Premiere hatte, war das Echo gemischt, auch wenn Kutchers Darstellung im Allgemeinen sehr gut weg kam. Laut Deadline sollte der Film im April starten, weil Apple im April vor 37 Jahren gegründet wurde. Unterdessen sei man aber zum Schluss gekommen, dass die Zeit bis dahin zu knapp sei, um den gewünschten Wirbel zu entfachen.

Audio titan THX has filed a lawsuit against Apple, claiming that Cook and Co. infringed a patent it has for technology regarding narrow profile speakers with enhanced sound output that can be built into electronics. According to the court filing, versions of the iPhone, iPad and iMac are culprits that rely on the tech in question. A team of wizards from Carnegie Mellon University's National Robotics Engineering Center is presently building a new "human-scale" robot in order to compete in DARPA's Robotics Challenge. Supply Chain Hints Suggest Retina iPad Mini Could Debut in Second Half of 2013
Paul Semenza, an analyst at market research firm DisplaySearch, tells CNET that an iPad mini with Retina display could debut in the third or fourth quarter of this year."We're seeing potential in the third quarter of panel production for a higher-resolution iPad Mini," DisplaySearch analyst Paul Semenza told CNET today. THX sues Apple over speaker technology patents
THX, the pro-audio company originally founded by Star Wars creator George Lucas, has sued Apple in federal court in California. The company alleges Apple is infringing on patents for a type of speaker unit that can boost sound output, granted to the company in 2008. It says the infringement is occurring in the iPhone, iPad and iMac products -- though how other iOS and Mac products are not guilty of the alleged infringement as well isn't explained. THX is seeking a sales injunction, royalties and damages.

US Federal judge finds National Security Letters' gag provision unconstitutional
Woo, boy. You know those National Security Letters that the FBI has been issuing at its own discretion -- the ones Google has been doing its best to track? Judge Susan Illston of Federal District Court in San Francisco just found 'em unconstitutional. Facebook's Zuckerberg replaces Cook as top-rated CEO
Despite suffering only a tiny drop in approval -- perhaps due to votes from recently-released executives -- Tim Cook's rank on job and boss review site Glassdoor fell from the top spot last year to number 18 on the latest list. His replacement is actually three CEOs, including Facebook leader Mark Zuckerberg and SAP's co-CEOs Bill McDermott and Jim Hagemann Snabe. All three men received a 99 percent score, while Cook fell from 97 percent to 93 percent in this year's survey. The ratings are compiled from employee votes.

Release of Ashton Kutcher's 'Jobs' Delayed
Ashton Kutcher's Jobs has reportedly been delayed for an undetermined amount of time according to The Hollywood Reporter so distributors could have more time to market the movie. The film had a planned release of April 19 after it was screened at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year. Open Road Films is pushing back the release of Jobs, which was scheduled to hit theaters on April 19, the 37th anniversary of the founding of the Apple Computer. Apple's claim to iPhone trademark in Mexico gets a nail in the appeals coffin
Apple's already lost hope for exclusive rights to the name "iPhone" in Brazil, and now it's been defeated in another battle south of the border. Cupertino and Mexican company iFone S.A. have a long history, stretching back to 2009 when Apple tried to have the firm's "iFone" trademark revoked.
