MLB at Bat 2012 app out for iDevices and Android, brings in-app monthly subscriptions to iOS
It's that time of year when the hot stove league gives way to spring training, and people start talking less about things like El Hombre's move to LA and more about batting averages and home runs. Thus, MLB has unleashed the MLB At Bat 2012 app to keep you up to date on your favorite squads and stars, and unlike previous iOS iterations, this time it's free. Official Apple Store app gets new ordering, account options
The official Apple Store app has been updated to v2.1, gaining several features. When buying an iPhone, for instance, US customers can now pick from plans from all three carriers: AT&T, Verizon, and Sprint. A new Account section lets users do in-app changes to billing and shipping information, instead of having to visit the Apple website.

iTunes Basics: iTunes Podcasts auf USB-Stick speichern
Oft gestellte Frage, oft benötigte Funktion, einfache Antwort. iTunes scheint für viele OS X – Einsteiger ein versiegeltes Buch: Dateien werden brav sortiert und schön präsentiert. Aber wo befinden sich die Dateien auf der Festplatte? Und wie bekommt man einen Podcast auf einen anderen PC oder Mac?
Die Antwort ist simpel: Es muss lediglich ein Rechtsklick auf die gewünschte Datei ausgeführt werden, um mit Hilfe eines Menüeintrags in den Finder zu navigieren.

Microsoft Windows 8 Consumer Preview available to download
Alongside its live Windows 8 Consumer Preview at MWC, Microsoft has now released the latest OS for download. While the software is a work in progress and Microsoft warns users will see some hiccups, it's a chance to perfect it before its final release through user feedback. There won't be official support available to those who try the software either, though sharing problems on a dedicated forum is being encouraged.

Paint3D app promises to let you sketch and print 3D models straight from Android
3D printing may still have quite a ways to go before it becomes as ubiquitous as traditional printing, but there's plenty of developers out there working to make that happen. MLB At Bat 2012 for iOS launches with new pricing scheme
Major League Baseball has launched the 2012 edition of its MLB.com At Bat app. The title is now universal, supporting both the iPhone and the iPad. The most significant change though is its pricing, as a $15 year-long or $3 annual fee currently only includes audio broadcasts of games, not video.

On Tuesday Marvel begin offering a number of its graphic novels in Apple's iBook Store. It's getting so you need a map to traverse Samsung's mobile Galaxy, but that's not stopping the outfit from cranking out handsets -- no matter how minuscule the tweaks. Nikons DSLR-Bolide D4 wurde von unseren US-Kollegen schon im Januar mal ausprobiert, aber damals wollte Nikon noch nicht, dass die Ergebnisse veröffentlicht werden, denn das gute Stück war noch nicht ganz aus dem Betastadium entwachsen. Das ist jetzt anders und so haben sie sich knapp einen Monat vor dem Release auf einem kurzen Spaziergang in New York zwischen Washington Square Park und 6th Avenue von den Qualitäten der D4 überzeugen können und auch zwei Testvideos gemacht, die es nach dem Break zu sehen gibt.

eBay sees its iPad listings increase ten-fold over last year
Apple set March 7 as the date for its big iPad announcement. Eager customers are looking to sell their older iPads in anticipation of buying the latest model. Instead of dealing with Craigslist spammers and deadbeat auction buyers, many people are turning to eBay's InstantSale program to get quick cash for their tablet. On the heels of iBooks Author's introduction last month, we're starting to see tools emerge that support the creation of specialized embeddable widgets. The video that follows showcases Panotour Pro's virtual 3D tours, which can be exported to widget form and then included into your iBooks project. Option's XYFI (pronounced ex-WiFi) was announced earlier this week with little fanfare but piqued our interest with its claim to being the world's smallest personal hotspot. Die Entscheidung des Gerichts in Guangzhou, welche zum aktuellen Zeitpunkt noch nicht getroffen wurde, wird von Reuters als wegweisend für alle weiteren Streitigkeiten zwischen den beiden Unternehmen beschrieben. ZTE PF 100 hands-on at Mobile World Congress 2012 (video)
ZTE's been making some slow, but steady progress as it transitions from no name, white label manufacturer to more of a well-known brand. Aiding the company in that exact mission is one of its latest tablets, the PF 100, shown off by NVIDIA at this year's Mobile World Congress. The apparently stock Android 4.0.3 slate packs a Tegra 3 CPU inside and 10.1-inch 1280 x 800 display. The unit we saw is far from a finished production model, given the fact that it was literally bursting apart at the seams and appeared as if it'd been roughly handled. Ein findiger Bastler hat eine Zwille als Controller für Angry Birds ausgetüftelt, deren Handling so flüssig und fluffig zu sein scheint, wie sich das passionierte Vogeljäger vorstellen. Das Teil basiert auf der Arduino-artigen Plattform mbed und wird schlicht via USB an den Rechner angeschlossen. China Mobile confirms TD-LTE 4G plans
China Mobile has confirmed that it is about to commence the wide-scale rollout of a TD-LTE mobile network. The largest telco in the world with 655 million customers has announced that it will deploy 20,000 TD-LTE base stations by the end of 2012, increasing to 200,000 by the end of 2013. The announcement is significant as the iPhone is not currently available on the influential network due to incompatibilities, but an LTE-capable iPhone would support TD-LTE.

Das letzte Mal hatten unsere US-Kollegen auf dem MWC nur kurz Zeit, das Galaxy Note 10.1 auszuchecken, zu wenig, um sich mit dem S-Pen wirklich vertraut zu machen. Das konnten sie jetzt nachholen und haben jede Menge S-Pen Apps ausprobiert um herauszubekommen, wie gut die Interaktion und das Schreiben funktionieren. Ihr vorläufiges Fazit: Die Software wurde von Samsung sorgfältig angepasst und sorgt dafür, dass ein etabliertes Tablet nun auch recht komfortabel mit einem Stylus S-Pen benutzt werden kann. Privatsphäre: Unerwünschter Zugriff von Apps auf Fotos und Videos
In den letzten Tagen und Wochen gab es vermehrt Diskussionen um den Schutz der Privatsphäre vor Eingriffen durch Mobil-Apps. Eine US-Zeitung widmet sich einer weiteren Schwachstelle in Apples iOS: Wer Apps erlaubt, die aktuelle Position zu ermitteln, erlaubt ihnen gleich auch den Zugriff auf Fotos und Videos.
Die New York Times hat einen Entwickler eine Test-App namens “PhotoSpy” schreiben lassen, die demonstriert, wie das Ganze funktioniert: Die App fragt den Benutzer, ob sie auf Geodaten, und zwar auch die Geodaten von Fotos und Videos zugreifen dürfe. Was die App nicht verrät, ist, dass sie im Anschluss die Fotos und Videos selbst an den Entwickler übermittelt.

WD offloads some desktop hard drive assets to Toshiba
Western Digital struck a deal late Tuesday to divest some of its 3.5-inch desktop hard drive assets to Toshiba. Research in Motion (RIM) suffered another high-profile defection today as the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATFE) announced that it would "delete the Blackberry from the mix" of devices agents use in favor of Apple's iPhone in a cost-savings move. The transition -- which will replace both 3,800 Blackberry devices as well as dedicated RIM servers -- should be complete in a year, Politico reports.

Time Warner Cable tries metered data again, keeps unlimited
Time Warner Cable earlier in the week outlined a new attempt at reintroducing metered Internet plans. Subscribers to Lite, Basic, and Standard access in Texas' border corridor, Corpus Christi, Laredo, the Rio Grande Valley, and San Antonio will have the option of an Essentials plan that saves $5 per month if they agree to a monthly 5GB transfer cap. Customers could switch to and from the plans and wouldn't be mandated.

Foursquare PS Vita app hits US PlayStation Store, gives you one more reason to opt for 3G
Good news for all you socially connected (and hip) regulars of local retail establishments -- who have PS Vitas, of course. Google TV may have less than 1m viewers
An investigation within Android Market stats has suggested that Google TV adoption may be so low as to be under one million users. The TV and Movies app, a core part of the OS, is listed as having between 500,000 to one million installed users, GigaOM found. More than half of them are Logitech Revue owners, while the rest are Sony's combined Internet TV and Internet Blu-ray player owners.

New iPad, Apple TV model numbers revealed?
A new source has offered up alleged model numbers for the forthcoming iPad 3, which may be offered in three versions covering Wi-Fi, GSM and CDMA (or perhaps a "universal" GSM/CDMA and an LTE/4G version). China Mobile plans widespread rollout of TD-LTE network, 20,000 base stations to be operational this year
China Mobile announced a deal with Clearwire last fall to speed up the rollout of its TD-LTE network, and now China's largest wireless provider has revealed some additional details about when that rollout will take place and just how big it will be. Sony updates PS Vita sales figures: 'over 1.2 million units worldwide', 2 million in software
As of recently, the PS Vita has become available in the locales of America, Europe and PAL territories, and now Sony's updated sales figures are in. How does "over 1.2 million units worldwide" sound? MOG music subscription service signals it is for sale
Fighting both increased competition and increasing reluctance by major artists to get involved with subscription services, MOG has contacted interested companies about a potential sale, reports CNet. Popcorn Hour debuts upgraded C-300 home media server
Popcorn Hour has released its latest home media streaming assistant, the C-300. The new model features a new color screen, support for a user-added Blu-Ray DVD player, room for full-sized as well as notebook-sized hard drives (which are easily swappable) and a revamped user interface. iOS vulnerability allows apps to grab photo, video libraries
An iOS vulnerability may be allowing some apps to access a person's entire photo/video library, say developers in touch with the New York Times. The flaw emerges only once a person authorizes an app to use location information, but at that point photo/video access opens up without any extra prompting. The location pop-up does say it will allow "access to location information in photos and videos," but makes no mention of sharing the media itself.

Mountain Lion developer preview changes file renaming options
